WHICH IS THE BEST RELIGION? I AM HINDU BUT I THOUGHT IT IS SIKHISM? DONT be PARTIAL TOWARDS YOUR RELIGION?

I am god w

freinds i have visited one day golden temple and i am hindu,what i see there that a beggar,washer man,person with leprasy,poor,rich,sikhs of high status all are taking lunch together,and i started crying after watching that love and brother hood inside me.
GURUNANAK the FOUNDER OF SIKHISM remove evils of caste system from society and his followers take no difference between rich and poor,high caste and lower caste,I FIND SIKHISM AS ONLY RELIGION WHICH PROMOTE TRUE BROTHER HOOD.

1. christanity
there is racisam between black and whites,christain missonaries has killed millions of innocent humans in order to convert them into christanity,black people are exploited by whites and there is racisam.

2 ISLAM
in 2003 thousands of black muslims are murdered by higher caste muslims,in islam there is racisam,saddam husain murdered 4000 kurds tribe people.

I AM NOT AGAINST THESE RELIGIONS,THERE FOUNDERS ARE GREAT BUT FOLLWERS PROVE TO BE STUPID,JESUS,MUHDMMAD ALL ARE GREAT.
3. my religion HINDUISM
in hinduism lower caste are being exploited from ages by brahaman,there is explotation of lower caste and untouchables.there is not brother hood at all.

IT IS SIKHISM WHERE THERE IS NO RACISAM AT ALL,AND FOLLWERS OF SIKHISM FOLLOW THE TEACHINGS OF GURUNANAK.

I THOUGHT SIKHISM IS BEST RELIGION,WHAT YOU THOUGHT dont be partial towards your own religion,i am hindhu and i thought it is sikhism.

Answer
How does one decide upon good or bad, best or worst?
1. It could be, that one lacks something in him/her which is found outside oneself.
2. The âbestâ is beneficial to oneself/others irrespective of caste, creed, colour, culture age & gender .
3. This benefit leads to greater inner satisfaction of oneself/others, & sense of security within/without for oneself/others.
4. This âbestâ is always positive in its outcome though the source may not be so. (e.g. One learns many good lessons from negative experiences & matures into a wise person).

Religion (any) has always taught good to all its adherents. But it needs to be reinterpreted according to the changing times/cultures/peoples/situations etc in view of making them more beneficial to its adherent - individual & the community as well as others- non-adherents. This way religion needs to be made meaningful for the present time and people living in the present.

It challenges its followers to live in the present. But the followers carry that religion in the 'Past or Futuristic bags'. That becomes unbearable to everyone including the non-followers.

Caste system in Hinduism (approved by the Scriptures-Religion) might have had social necessity in the Vedic or later periods for smooth functioning (sociologically). But today it is not needed. It excludes other caste groups and isolates its own members. Thus fosters suspicion against the excluded & instills insecurity in both the groups. That is why there is much violence between âhighâ & âlowâ castes in India.

When a particular thing stops providing security one self, to the people (within/without), to an individual & to the human society at large, and hinders enrichment of human lives irrespective of differences among humans (gender/colour/racial/cultural etc.), that thing becomes a liability.

It needs to be revaluated ruthlessly.

Has the Caste System become one such element in Hindu Community? Does one feel ashamed of it in the face of violence and suffering it causes? Is one speechless when someone asks shameful questions about Caste System in Hinduism? Does one really want to do something about it?

If yes, then it needs to be abolished. First & foremost by the State.

The State has to fully implement this supported by strong legal hands. Even today one needs to announce one's caste on admission-forms and other formal documents in educational as well as other institutes (that is likely to officially perpetuate the Caste System from generation to generation).

The individuals & groups who have practiced such system in their personal lives so far also need to consciously and persistently break away from it. irrespective of the benefits they may have recieved in the past.

The Scriptures need to be read anew and re-interpreted in the context of the present milieu. The religions, this way, becomes evergreen and lofty.

That means it depends on us to make any religion best or worst.

If a Hindu dislikes his own religion due to its Caste System and other practices then he/she should stop practicing those things in his/her own life. Start developing true respect for all humans including the so called low caste This way one will not feel bad (guilty) about oneself or one's own religion.

Of course, beneficiaries of Caste System will disagree with all the above.

Christian religion affirms God as the Father (Creator) of the Universe. God created Adam & Eve in His own likeness and image. From these first parents, proceeded forth all the humanity. That resulted in the universal brother-sisterhood of all the human beings.

Islam too preaches brotherhood though with a difference. (http://www.famsy.com/salam/Brotherhood0404.htm )
(http://www.themodernreligion.com/basic/charac/essay_brotherhood.htm)

Practicing along these lines will surely enrich all religions. All of them will become the best.

Let us do it!

How it felt to give birth
After going through Lamaze, Leboyer, and La Leche classes with his expectant wife, the proud new father remained by her bedside throughout the labor delivery and wanting to be as sympathetic as possible, he took his wife's hand afterward and said emotionally. "Tell, me how it was, darling, how it actually felt to give birth."

"OK, honey," his wife replied. "Smile as hard as you can."

Beaming down at his wife and smile, the man followed her instsuctions. "That's not hard."

She continued, "Now stick a finger in each corner of you mouth." He obeyed, smiling broadly. "Now stretch your lips as far as they'll go," she went on.

"Still not to tough." he remarked.

"Right." she snapped. "Now pull them over your head."

1. When I forget to go to the grocery store, I will not boil the macaroni necklaces my children made for me in preschool.

2. When I hear one of my children wake in the middle of the night, I will run upstairs to supervise before he relieves himself in the sink and then creeps into the bathtub to return to sleep.

3. I will pack the kids' lunch boxes the night before so I don't throw in a slab of frozen lasagna as they're running for the bus. "It'll defrost by lunch. If not, you can suck it like an ice pop."

4. I will resist the urge to explain to strangers why my son is wearing winter boots, a bathing suit bottom, and an inside-out and backward pajama top. I will be grateful that he is able to dress himself.

5. I will not tell my children that the Play-Doh dried up just because I don't feel like cleaning up after they use it, even though I know it means I'll spend the evening harvesting the colored stuff from the carpet fibers, chair cushions and the dog's fur.

6. I will always protect the rights of my children, especially their right to remain silent.

7. I will learn to accept the outbursts and tantrums as a part of life. After all, I promised to love my husband for better or worse.

8. When my husband and I go to a restaurant without the kids, I will not roll up his sleeves or move the knives from his reach. I will not accompany him to the bathroom and remind him to wash his hands with soap. If my husband wants dessert at the end of the meal, I will not tell him it depends on his behavior.

9. When I'm tired of hearing "mommieeeeee!" a thousand times each day, I will resist changing my name to "Please pass the spinach" or "TV is boring, I'd rather read."

10. I will develop an ability to have a conversation with an adult that doesn't revolve around labor pains or children's toilet habits. I will feel comfortable in the silence that ensues when neither of us can think of any other topic to discuss or remember we can always discuss the weather.

11. I will be more flexible about children's nutritional requirements by counting the ketchup and green crayon as vegetables.

12. When my children beg for a pet, I will buy them each a hutch for the dust bunnies that have multiplied under their beds. I will let them name each dust bunny.

13. I will count how often I repeat the phrase "You'd better listen because I will not repeat myself", until my children actually notice that I have spoken. I will not raise my voice until I have said it at least that many times.

14. When my kids are older (at least 50), I will explain why they never have any chocolate candy left after Mommy and Daddy "check" their Halloween bags.

15. I will be a good, fair and loving parent to my children. I will provide them with enriching experiences and opportunities. I will give them a solid foundation on which to build a useful life. After all, they may eventually be responsible for choosing a nursing home for me to live out my final days

A little "birdy" told me!

Am I talking to a brick wall?

Are you deaf or something?

Are you lying to me?

As long as you live under my roof, you'll do as I say.

Beds are NOT made for jumping on.

Close the door! You don't live in a barn.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Don't make me get up!

Don't sit too close to the television, it'll ruin your eyes.

Don't talk with your mouth full!

Don't walk away when I'm talking to you!

Eat your vegetables, they're good for you.

Enough is enough!

Go play outside! It's a beautiful day!

How do you know you don't like it if you haven't tasted it?

I didn't ask who put it there, I said "Pick it up!"

I don't care what "everyone" is doing. I care what YOU are doing!

I hope someday you have children just like you.

If God had wanted you to have holes in your ears (eyebrows, tongue, etc.) He would have put them there!

If it were a snake, it would have bitten you.

If you stick your tongue out again it will fall off.

I'm doing this for your own good.

I'm not going to ask you again.

Isn't it past your bedtime?

It's not that I don't trust you, it's that I don't trust everyone else.

Life isn't fair.

Look at me when I'm talking to you.

No child of MINE would do something like that.

Say that again and I'll wash your mouth out with soap.

Shut the door! I'm not heating (air conditioning) the entire neighborhood!

This hurts me more than it hurts you.

Turn that racket (music) down

What did I say the FIRST time?

What if everyone jumped off a cliff? Would you do it, too?

What part of NO don't you understand?

When I was a little girl...

When I was your age, I had to walk ten miles through the snow, uphill, by myself, to go to school.

When you have your own house then you can make the rules!

Who died and left you boss?

You can't start the day on an empty stomach.

You don't always get what you want. It's a hard lesson, but you might as well learn it now.

You have an answer for everything, don't you?

You kids are trying to drive me crazy!

You won't be happy until you break that, will you?

You'll understand when you're older.

Always wear clean underwear in case you get in an accident.

Answer me when I ask you a question!

Be good.

Don't ask me WHY. The answer is NO.

Don't cross your eyes or they'll freeze that way.

Don't make me come in there!

Go ask your father.

Go to your room and think about what you did!

How can you have nothing to wear? Your closet is FULL of clothes!

How many times do I have to tell you?

I don't care who started it, I said stop!

I don't know is NOT an answer.

I would have never talked to MY mother like that!

If I want your opinion I'll ask for it!

If I've told you once ... I've told you a thousand times.

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

If you don't clean your plate, you won't get any dessert.

I'll treat you like an adult when you start acting like one.

I'm going to give you until the count of three...

It's no use crying over spilt milk.

I've had it up to here with you.

Leave your sister (brother) alone!

Never try on anyone else's glasses or you'll go blind.

Now, say you're sorry...and MEAN it!

Someday your face will freeze like that

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Think of those poor starving children in India... (or China, or Africa.)

Were you born in a barn? Close the door -- and DON'T slam it!

When I was your age...

When you have kids of your own you'll understand.

Why? Because I SAID so, that's why!

You are getting on my last nerve.

You can't judge a book by its cover.

You had better wipe that smile off your face before I do it for you.

You just ate an hour ago!

You WILL eat it, and you WILL like it!

You'd forget your head if it wasn't attached to your shoulders!

You will ALWAYS be my baby.

You're going to put your eye out with that thing!

Your father is going to hear about this when HE gets home!

You're the oldest. You should know better.

i was trying to find out what women carry in their purses?

hcc_elf

i'm doing some research of what women generally have in their purses

Answer
I have a small wallet with my drivers license and debt card and cash. Then I have a larger wallet that has my check book, credit cards and other various cards (Sam's card, insurance card...). I have a make up bag with chap stick, mascara, eye drops, contact drops, nail file, matches (just in case), perfume, gum, Tylenol and a pen. I have a small hair brush and my sun glasses and my cell phone and my keys. I also have a small walletish type thing that has a new set of contacts, a contact holder and saline solution in it (very handy and cute! Its purple). If its that time of the quarter (I take the 3 month pill) I will have sanitary products in the zip up hiddey pocket on the side. I believe in being prepared. :)

Edit: I will also have a book in there on most occasions. There isnt one in there now because I left it in the car at lunch.

I need a cute DIY gift Idea for Christmas. ?

Alex L

Mainly this is for the women in my family. I have done ornaments already... and need a cute idea for just the girls. I cant afford the lavish gifts I have bought everyone the past couple years, but dont want to just not get them something.

Answer
What you'll need:
Brownie Mix
Chocolate Or Vanilla frosting
5 candy canes.
Brownie mix supplies

Make the brownies(follow the instructions on the package), then take them out when they're ready. Let them cool COMPLETELY! Next cut the brownies out, one by one, about 5 x 3 so you'll have 15. Take the frosting & well cover! After that, somehow- with a hammer or a hard tool crush the candy canes into tiny pieces and sprinkle them on top of the brownies.

You can get some scrapbooking supplies and make lovely christmas cards. I saw this really good idea on HGTV. They took brown paper bags for lunch, and folded the front side where you'd place the items in upward. (you hold the bag upside down from the opening and fold it upward) You'd decorate it with the scrapbooking supplies and possibly place a card, gift card, some cash in the opening pocket.

If you go onto HGTV.com I'm sure you can find the idea!

Also if you can knit, make them homemade scarves, gloves, maybe a blanket. You can make candles for them, that's always fun.

Homemade cookies, fudge, candy, etc!
Look up ideas online. Google and Yahoo!'s search bars should do you some good!

Wikihow.com and ehow.com are great for DIY ideas!

Happy holidays!

Is this True? is this how people live in America?

Swiftie_Lo

ok so im from Australia,in a small city,

i have seen alot of movies from america (duh) and in most of them, kids/teens like me.. walk to school/home from school, or catch one of those yellow buses, have their lunch in paper bags, and then can just walk out whenever they want, and just go walking in the street, or to the 'mall' (shops) with their friends whenever they want.
also it seems like people can just come and go to their houses whenever they want, like they dont even organize it, they just do whatever they want.

so what i wanted to know is, is this all what really happens in america or is it only in the movies.
where i live, you have to organise things like a week ahead, and you cant just walk to someones house, or where ever you want, you have to get your parents to drive you, and they never really want to.
so anyway, is this true?

thanks (:
xx

Answer
Hell no, nothing in the USA looks like in there movies and TV shows, even US Americans don't look or dress like they do on there TV shows, it's all make believe.

All US American parents especially in California cotton wool there kids, it's not safe for a child to walk by themselves on the street, or go to the corner store on there own. US American kids and people get abducted there all of the time by loon's, who use them as occult sacrileges and/or for ransom. This is why there parents drive them everywhere, even to school and pick them up after school.

While I was there, a girl who was abducted for a few years was found alive, panhandling with some religious loons who abducted her. Also most all of the big malls in the USA are Australian owned by Westfield.

What your children daily routine on school days?

Proud mom

My 6 year old son going to first grade. I want to do daily routine morning till bedtime. I know start in the morning. How can I keep it flexible. He be playing soccer. Once a week during evening like Monday or something he be having soccer practice and his games on Saturdays. I be doing one for my other son has well since he be in preschool. I was wondering other parents does have their kids on has well. I do have a special spot for his home work he do before going to bed. Since his younger brother goes to bed hour earlier then him and he wouldn't get bothered and he would have my attention if he needs help. Which I sit by him and watch him to explain him.
Also want you do fix your kids for breakfast in the morning on school days. Also you pack their lunch or buy their lunch.. I hope your kids have a good school year like mine. I am also expecting a little in November hoping the kids be really used to their routine..

Answer
they wake up in general at 7.15. breakfast, hair teeth, dress, pack bags. Leave at around 8.40 for school, which can be ride walk or drive depending on the day

they get out at 3.30pm. Routing after this varies from day to day as we have different activities each night. Some we go straight to, others there is an hour or so before we have to be there.
We fit homework in when we can. It may be in the mornings or it could be at night. Depends on the day.

I make their breakfast on school mornings and I make their lunches while cooking the toast and juggling a million other things lol.

We are 1/2 through our school year in Australia so they have been at it for ages

Except for Wednesdays betime is 8pm lights out

Children's boxed (or bagged) lunches....?

Coco & Boo

Just curious, as the school year is coming near, I am planning on sending my daughter's lunch with her more often and am thinking of different HEALTHY lunches I can make. I don't want to bore her with the same lunch everyday...so, please everyone, tell me what YOU send or plan to send with your child in their lunch boxes *drink included if you send one*!

Answer
Lunchables are NOT all that healthy -- they have lots of sodium etc.

Main dishes:

* Tuna sandwich wrap with light mayonnaise, lettuce and tomatoes
* Egg salad sandwich on whole grain bread
* Peanut butter, cashew, or almond butter with a 100 percent fruit spread on whole grain bread (a healthier PB&J)
* Sliced turkey, lean roast beef, or chicken from the deli--or left over from last night's dinner--with light mayonnaise, mustard, and a slice of cheese

My kids have insulated lunchboxes and I have 8 oz metal insulated containers in which I send between late fall and early spring:

soups and stews
leftover casseroles
a treat of hot cocoa or cider

Treats:

a couple of Hershey`s kisses
a fun size candy bar
a sweet granola bar
a small handful of chocolate or butterscotch chips
a bar or brownie or cookie

Drinks:

Usually water. They can buy milk or chocolate milk at school.

Sides:

* Send a salad in a small plastic container. Keep the dressing on the side in a separate smaller container. (I do this for a main dish for my 12 year old daughter adding meat and cheese cubes to make it a chef salad -- the boys do not like it as well).
* Cheese sticks go well with sandwiches and are a good source of calcium.
* Whole grain snack crackers add a nice crunch and lots of healthy fiber.
* Make a fruit salad with grapes, melons chunks, and blueberries.
* Dried fruit, like raisins, dried cranberries or banana chips
* Nuts like almonds, cashews, or walnuts
* Pack a cold pasta salad or potato salad.
* Baby carrots or celery sticks or cucumber strips with a small container of vegetable dip
* Crunchy raw green beans with a small container of ranch or french onion dip
* Flavored yogurt -- I get a large container of vanilla organic yogurt and mix in finely chopped fruit and put about 1/4-1/2 cup in a small plastic container -- much less expensive and more fruity than the individual containers.

How to keep a salad fresh for lunch without a refrigerator?

Jenny

I want to start taking salads to work for lunch but there aren't any refrigerators to put my food in. How would I be able to keep a salad fresh?

Answer
Make sure your lettuce/greens are rinsed and dry. Pack wet ingredients like tomatoes, artichokes hearts, roasted peppers etc. separately. Pack cheese and/or cold cuts separately. Pack your salad dressing separately. Put the dried greens in a tupperware container or Ziploc with a paper towel to absorb moisture. Refrigerate all ingredients overnight then pack in an insulated bag until lunch time. If you use a decent sized container for the lettuce, you can mix your salad ingredients in that container.

If you wish to bring any salads like egg or tuna salad. The containers should also be refrigerated overnight then packed into an insulated bag with some frozen gel packs or use the other answerer's idea of the frozen bottle of water.

Would women accept guys that wear thongs?

NONAME

I wear something that considered gay to wear. I am in high school. Most people from the other sex wear them, but they are made for guys also. Is it bad for a guy to wear thongs? They are very comfortable and supportive than any other underwear. Will people make fun of me if they accidentally see them? Is it unusual for a guy to wear?I have questioned my sex orientation also. I feel attracted to a random muscular black basketball player at lunch. If i am bi, can i get out on facebook without telling people? I want to real bad.Is it bad to watch videos that have men in thongs and speedos? I already told my mom that i wear thongs. Her opinion that most high school guys don't wear them and she laughed in the beginning. She ask me why i want to wear them. They are cozy and supportive and it is my body. She accepted it. she bought me some speedos later on, but i denied it. Why does she want me to wear something different. Is she holding her true feelings back . Why are they made anyway to don't be worn? I told her because i don't know how to do laundry so she could wash them. I told her to don't tell my dad and she agreed. I think she told him anyway. He called me speedo on purpose several days when i told my mom I have older brothers that lives with us.I wonder what they think if they figure out that i wear thongs? Is it bad to want to sag them for people to see? I sag them when i got something from the vending machine in the mornings at school. Their was a lot of girls there also. I bend over to let them see what i am wearing. Five minutes later a pass that machine and the girls said its him. I did it with a different group of girls and they just laughed when i left. I even sag these at walmart for people to see. My friends in the library saw that i sag thongs and the friend that was a guy said you wear thongs.. speedos... model in them man! I guess he likes them so that is good. The friend that was a girl who was there said " man thongs?" I guess she think it is semi hot so. several days ago, i was waiting for the school doors to open in the morning. their is a handful amount of people that was waiting their. When the doors open, i grab my bag and rise my back. They saw my thong i bet because when i got into the door, i herd a girl talking to her friend "disguesting" are they talking about the thongs?I think they are pretty amazing. I be friended my crush on facebook also. He is a pretty sweet guy. How can i talk to him? He does not know me. Like what would you do if you see a random person jogging around the park and you saw him in a red thong on and a short sleevless shirt? Why do they get made fun of like the testicale vesticale, the banana hammock, bungie spunglers, and marble bags?

Answer

Low calorie meal ideas?

.pokey.

need ideas for meals to fit a 1500 calorie diet. I realize this is low, it's temporary.

I need some variety. I like fish and chicken, pretty much all fruits and veggies. Any ideas are appreciated

Answer
Hi there,

1500 calorie diet is not low. It is what the average women should be eating everyday. If your doctor told you to eat 1500 calories per day, then you have probably been eating way over this amount and you need to change your eating habits. To stay on track, you need to eat per day:

A good breakfast of cereal and milk; or oatmeal; or eggs/toast/meat of some sort.

A lunch of soup and half a sandwich; or stew and crackers; or a sandwich.

No junk foods such as chips, sodas, etc. JUNK has got to be kept out of your daily intake of food.

Raw vegetables are good for in between meals.

Dinner/Supper:
One meat;
One vegetable;
One starch such as beans/rice/potatoes.
Fruit for dessert.
Tossed salad is okay to eat, but don't smother it with dressings.
```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
1. At your grocery store, buy the sealed PRE-COOKED meats that come is small packages such as the following. You can make two or three meals out of them:
Beef tips with gravy,
Roast with gravy,
Pork roast,
Chicken,
Baked ham,
Pork chops,
Meatloaf,
etc.
Just heat in your microwave; directions are on the packages. You will find these packages in the cold section (not the freezer). Ask a clerk to help you find these. They are delicious.
Use these for your meat dish with a side dish or two of canned or frozen vegetables, beans, potatoes or sweet potatoes which can all be found on shelves or in the freezer section and they are already cooked.
.
You can now buy bags of different flavors of precooked rice that you put into your microwave for a minute or two. These are on shelves at the grocery store. We like the chicken flavored best of all. Have a clerk help you find them.
.
Real mashed potatoes that come in a bag...add water, butter, milk. Delicious. Read the directions.
.
Buy top brand cans of stew for each person. Serve with cornbread, crackers, or toast.
.
Soup and a grilled (fried) cheese sandwiches. Go to this video to see how to make a quick grilled cheese sandwich:
http://startcooking.com/video/326/Grilled-Cheese-Sandwich
.
Omelet with Cheese - Video:
http://startcooking.com/video/326/Grilled-Cheese-Sandwich
.
You can buy all types of salad greens in large packages now. Buy the ones that have been pre-washed. Add your own dressing which you can buy in bottles.
.
2. The top brands of microwave frozen dinners are very good now. These come in single servings or in family sized bags. Follow directions. Look for the words "No Preservatives" marked on the box or package.
Just add a canned or frozen vegetable as a side dish.
Top brands of dinners that are found on shelves. No fridge needed. Add water, microwave. These are good to take to school or work. Follow directions on the containers.
.
3. Video On How To Cook A Rib Eye Steak on Stove Burner (turn on your sound), click this link:
http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-make-rib-eye-steak
.
4. Supermarket deli's have pre roasted chickens, fried chickens, roast beef, and side dishes. You can stop in on the way home and grab a quick dinner to take home. I buy their roasted chicken often...they are delicious.
.
5. Buy a crock pot. You put everything into the pot in the morning, set it on low for 8 hours, and your dinner will be ready for you when you come home in the evening! I kid you not. Be sure to read the instruction booklet.
There is a recipe booklet that comes with the crock pot. You can buy crock pots at places such as your grocery store, Walmart, and etc.
Here are 1,160 crock pot recipes:
http://www.cooks.com/rec/search?q=crock+pot
DON'T FORGET TO PLUG IT IN! This happens more than you would think. lol
Do I have to carry around my backpack in high school?
Matt L
*please read until the end*
i'm going into grade 9 tomorrow, do I have to carry around my backpack from class to class in ontario, canada, or do i get to go to my locker every period to get the things i need for the next class?
and should i bring notebooks AND binders the first day?
and also, How do you bring lunch in high school?
I'm a freshman in ontario, canada. school starts tomorrow. i've only been attending a private school my whole life but i'm going to a public high school so i don't know what the differences are. for lunch, up until now, EVERYONE carried this lunch bag at my privaet school:
http://goshopping.thestar.com/shop/product--catId_1002903__locale_en__catCrumbIds_1002463-1002903__productId_8209656.html
which their parents packed.. now i'm going to a public high school so i have no idea how the other kids pack.
so MY QUESTION: how do kids pack their lunches in canadian PUBLIC high schools? like in a plastic bag, a brown paper bag, or just the insulated bags i showed you?? or do most kids just buy their lunches from the school cafeteria? how do kids eat on the first day of high school??
so would it be okay to bring a lunch bag like above or would people think i'm a little kid or something?
if you could answer all of my questions, that would be GREATLY appreciated.
THANK YOU!
may the best, thorough answer get the 10 points they deserve....
Answer
It really does not matter if you carry your backpack or not. The people at MY school usually carry around backpacks, but some people do just carry their books (I also live in Ontario, Canada). You do get to go to your locker at the end of each period, but not much time. your locker would need to be close to your next class. I suggest you bring your backpack with the things you need for your first classes, then at lunch, change them for the last couple of classes.
Bring Notebooks or Note paper AND binders the first day.
And about the lunch thing, there's no sweat. People do all sorts of things: bring a regular lunch pale/ box, brown bag, walk to the nearest fast food place, or buy lunch from your cafeteria. it doesn't really matter. And kida eat on the first day lol.
How much do you spend on groceries per week?
Lex
I was wondering what is "normal". I have a hubby and 3 kids, and we hardly ever eat out, maybe once every other month. We spend about $150-$200/week in groceries.
Answer
You are spending about what I spend, except I am only feeding TWO adults. Either I am spending way too much (I am a pensioner) or you aren't spending the norm for three kids. I live in Canada, and I think we spend as much as my contemporaries do. We don't eat steak, but a lot of minute steak, sausage, pork products, and the occasional roast beef. We have two vegetables with our dinner (5pm) and usually soup and sandwiches for lunch - cold cereal for breakfast.Sometimes eggs and side bacon. Milk, Juice (OJ) and butter and margarine. We use instant coffee and regular tea-bags, and I use a Kuereg Coffee maker regularly. I shopped at Walmart last week and spent $350.oo for my grub for two weeks.
Using a lunch box for High School...help please.?
JD2612
I'm a freshman in high school this year, and I've been using a lunch box. It really makes me look like a little kid, plus I'm short... I'm actually really mature though. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for what I can put my lunch in because I sick of my lunch box. I know most kids use paper bags, but they're too small for me, they rip, and I like to be eco-friendly. Ideas anyone?
Answer
Reuse plastic grocery bags.
Going green advice?For kids?
Cherymenth
Well my kids just walked up to me after getting all of their presents unwrapped and said that they were so happy about all they got they want to help me. I was fine so i told them what about helping the environment? They said sure but how? And well i didn't really have anything kid friendly for them to do.
(We already recycle)
thank you al very much the answers were all stupendous so i am going to put this to vote
Answer
There are a TON of ways:
1) Water
Turn off the faucet when brushing, take shorter showers, minimize baths, water the lawn less, etc. An extra step would be to install an eco-friendly shower head. Yes, water will always be around, but it takes energy to send it to your house and to transport it if you live in a dry area.
2) Buy recycled products
Plenty of people recycle but I haven't met very many who actually buy recycled things. It cuts down on energy needed and also saves trees and natural, nonrenewable resources. A great company for recycled paper would be New Leaf. Their paper is cleaned with hydrogen peroxide rather than toxic chlorine bleach.
3) Eat locally
Organic is good - but local is better. It takes much less energy and fuels to transport food if you eat it locally, reducing pollution and gasoline usage. It also supports smaller farms and keeps the big corporations from getting too far ahead.
4) Compost
Why ruin soil and water with chemical fertilizers? And why waste leftovers? Use non salted (salt ruins soil quality) food waste products to enrich the soil in your backyard - which goes in with number five...
5) Gardening
This somewhat ties in with eating locally grown foods. When you eat your own produce, virtually no transportation is necessary; you buy the seeds (maybe a little driving to the store), plant it in your own backyard, and later, to harvest, all you have to do is walk. It's very eco friendly.
6) Bags
Buy firmly made kids' backpacks to prevent having to go back to the store repeatedly for new ones. If your kids bring lunch to school, buy reusable cloth ones rather than paper ones. For going to the store, buy cloth bags (nearly every store now - Walmart, Target, Trader Joe's, etc. sells these) so you can reduce on the paper and plastic needed to create bags for customers.
7) Pets
Got a dog? Use Scoopies, a biodegradable bag that dissolves rather than sits in the landfill for who-knows-how-long. Have a cat? Use natural litter from natural products rather than chemical or artificial litters.
8) Vegetarianism/veganism
Yes, consuming meat, eggs, and dairy DO harm the environment. Animals consume a ton of food - you need 8 or more pounds of grain/other animal food to get out 1 pound of meat - and their poop is too plentiful and too chemically inbalanced to use as fertilizer. The poop then infects the environment; waterways are constantly being feces-infected. Producing eggs and dairy are also hugely food inefficient and the chickens and cows also produce plentiful wastes. Despite "factory farming" - cramming more animals into smaller amounts of space - the huge demand for meat is cutting down forests to grow animal feed and for animal grazing. Going vegetarian, vegan, or just cutting down significantly on consumption of these products will reduce pollution.
Any adivce you can offer for solo female planning to tour Australia and New Zealand for about 6 weeks please?
Auora
Hi would you be able to help me with an itinerary for 6 weeks trip to Australia and New Zealand alone leaving the second week of July-August. Im thinking to book a one way ticket, then can book my return flight anytime and will stay in hostels but I'll be 27 by then so would I be considered too old for that?
Sydney 2 weeks
Auckland 10 days-2 weeks
Brisbane 1 week
Cairns 5 days
Will this be enough time and how much spending money should i take (im from the UK) and would a working holiday visa be beneficial?
I would like to start in New Zealand, then head to sydney and work my way up north. Is that ok?
Types of clothing to take for July-August?
Im an introverted person and enjoy my own company but once I get to know others I enjoy socialising to an extent lol and I do hope to meet others. Would a backpack or suitcase be best to take?
Any other adivce you can offer for a solo travelling female planning to tour Australia and New Zealand for about 6 weeks please?
Answer
hi there... forget the negative nellies out there women can and do travel safely all over the world and I for one have travelled most parts of the world and alone and the few times I was with somebody I hated it you get stuck you don't get to meet so many people you don't get invited to places and they do say that the fastest way to end a friendship is to travel with somebody
you already said you enjoy your own company so go for it... as for luggage well suit yourself I actually never owned a backpack only a small bag that fitted into the airport measurement thing... one tip never never leave your bag unattended or with somebody always keep with you even take it inside the toilet not outside the door
as for being safe well I advise that if you expect trouble trouble will find you dress modestly don't get into tricky situations where alcohol is involved even lie if you need to pretend your friend is waiting to meet you
as for itineraries again sorry my advice is quite different you will not know till you get to a place and meet people hear of things etc how long you want to stay sometimes you might "plan" to just stop for lunch and end up there for a week (this is a true example and happened to us YAMBA... check it out) there is a cheap hotel/pub on the cliff has group rooms....so keep your itinerary open to flexibility much more fun that way that's what travelling is about
as for hostels etc you are never never too old
for clothes the thing is layer layer layer stick to one color scheme the this goes with that thing and if you pack properly you need the same things for anywhere and for any time period
something to travel in and an all purpose jacket which you carry on, something to sleep in, swimmers, one good outfit, always something warm like a light weight cashmere sweater or cardigan even in the tropics can be handy and also a sarong is handy and then a casual wear it every day just change the tops sort of outfit
Does anyone know of a website that I can create different styles of poems on?
Nomo
I need something that I can partially create because they have to be original poems for a class, and I cannot write poetry. Please help me if you can.
Answer
here is an artile I wrote for my writers group on Yahoo...
hope it helps
Acrostic
Acrostic poems are poems, which have one word where each letter of the word begins a line for the poem. These poems make great gifts when printed on fancy paper and set in a frame.
Here are some examples of acrostic poems I wrote
Michael
Made in Australia
Inventive mind
Creative thinking
Heart as big as the land
A man in the making
Ever seeking
Loving son
Flower
Frequently seen
Lovingly adored
Once seen never forgotten
Waking with the sun
Eager for the day
Resplendent glory
Free Verse
Free verse is a prose form of poetry. Free verse is just that.. free⦠unstructured.. no rulesâ¦.
Here is an example of a free verse poem I wrote
New Day
I woke to the sound of Suzi Quatro blaring in the bathroom
I felt compassion for my mother who woke the same way a generation
ago..
Devil Gate Drive at 6 am is hard to takeâ¦.
Karma.. what you send out comes back to youâ¦
Oh well it could be worseâ¦. It could be Kizz at 6 am
My feet hit the floor and my mind seeks coffeeâ¦
Caffeine.. my friendâ¦.
Suzi blares louder as the bathroom door is flung open
BANG BANGâ¦. Mum get up it is after sixâ¦
Yeh yeh I knowâ¦.
Why does modern life torture us with early rising..
I pull on some clothesâ¦
Good morning sweetieâ¦. Have you got some lunch ready for school
Blechhhh no one eats packed lunches at high schoolâ¦â¦
Argue the pointâ¦. why? you cant make them eatâ¦..
Ahhhhh coffeeâ¦.
Good Morning World
Haiku
Haiku is a traditional Japanese form of poetry. A haiku is a poem
consisting of three lines. Each line has a specific number of
syllables, ( word parts ie. Con/ sis/ting is three syllables). The
first and third lines have 5 syllables and the second line has seven syllables.
Haiku are traditionally about things in nature such as rocks, clouds, animals, water, wind, sun, mountains etc. Haiku traditionally signifies a specific season and a specific point in time. Here are some of my own Haiku for you to see:
Caterpillar
Caterpillar eats
All the munchy-crunchy leaves
Butterfly appears
Thunderstorm
Rumble grumble rahhhhh
Lightning flashing all around
Crack angry sky heavy rain
Daffodil
Fairies teacup sweet
Dandelion tea to drink
Bobbing in the field
Limerick
Limerick is a form of poetry most renown and named after the city said to be it's place of origin, Limerick, Ireland.
Limericks are poems of five lines. The lines have a specific rhyming pattern the pattern is lines one, two and five rhyme with one another and lines three and four rhyme with one another.
Limericks are traditionally very humorous and often about a specific person. However they seldom seem humorous to the person they are about.
Here are some examples of limericks I have written. I must add this is the one form of poetry I have always found a great struggle.
A man on the net
There was a man on the internet
He talked to women he never met
The women cried
The man soon died
What a sad end forever yet
Boy from Australia
There was a boy from Australia
He had a face like a Dahlia
His wife nearly cried
When he turned to the side
Cause his ears were like a trailer
And another article I wrote...
ODE: The Ode is a rhyming poem, usually humorous and often satyrical or sarcastic in nature, which is usually composed in 'honour' of a particular person, occasion or thing. Modern odes are generally rhythmical and almost ditty-like.
Example of an Ode:
An Ode to The Garbo
The Garbo Man drives a mighty truck
He has mighty skill and mighty pluck
Every Thursday morn at half past eight
I hear his truck roar at our front gate
Two arms swing out and lift up the bin
shaking all the rubbish and tipping it in
Plastic bags and old tin cans too
Then off next door to house number twenty two
The Garbo man works very very hard
never rising from his seat
while he goes from yard to yard
Here is a website to find out more about the Ode.
BLANK VERSE: Blank verse is a non-rhyming poem. It is a formal poem in the sense that the structure must have a particular repeating beat (metrical feet) pattern. The metrical pattern can be in any order ie. stressed-unstressed-unstressed; unstressed-unstressed- stressed etc.
Essentially a Blank Verse poem is a sonnet of sorts which does not rhyme. The metre needs to remain the same throughout the poem and the poem can be any length and the lines can be any length though all the lines in a single poem need to have the same number of feet.
An Example of Blank Verse
Nature's Whisper
In sky scraper jungles of steel and glass
Upon busied streets of suited beggars
Neons mindlessly blinking in sunshine
Starched white faces with painted smiles
Treadmill people with treadmill lives milling
Mining and milling the mighty dollar
Nature's whisper is lost to their ears
Lost in the jungles of steel and glass
Nature's whisper silenced forever
Natures voice whispering let me breathe.
SONNETS are a traditinal forma of poetry which has to pedigrees, one is the Italian Sonnet and the other is the English Sonnet.
Sonnets are generally 14 lines long and follow an Iambic Pentameter in the rhythm of each line and have one of several rhyming schemes.
Here is an example of a sonnet I wrote.
My Australia
A Sonnet
In youthful days I travelled round this land
climbing rocks and trees, mountains and hills too
swimming creeks, billabongs and rivers true
stretched on a beach feeling sun-warmed sand
dusty miles on distant roads low and high
seeing hailed crops and waving fields of green
forests tall, shrublands and deserts in sheen
in walking cross the land I felt her sigh
In her sigh I felt a shudder and pain
my heart ached for the losses seen and felt
tears welled in clouds stinging raindrops falling
gullies wide unleashed torrential drain
dusty trees arching skyward, verdant sveldte
A land, a love, a life, a death calling
For a great read on SONNETS read message number 721 on the messagboard
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AustraliaTheWorldWordsmiths/message/721
Richard went to a lot of trouble to define Sonnets.
Try one of these forms and feel free to post the results on the
messageboard.
Happy Writing
What are some creative prom favors?
SHARKBAITE
I am the chairperson of my school's prom favors committee. What are some things that you have received or like to receive as prom favors? Be creative!
note: we have a $10 per person budget.
Answer
Here are several ideas enclosed: http://hubpages.com/hub/_BellaMevents_HIGHSCHOOLPROMKEEPSAKE
My favorite is the lunch tote to prepare the kids for college and/or work after high school. It does not have to be customized. I would leave it plain. The pattern fits both boys and girls. You can add a customized tag to each from a computer. "Class of 2011" on a circle tag with glitter to jazz it up is something different. Also they can be wrapped in cellophane. The back of the tag can have a quote about the memories together that go on during high school. Many were made during lunch :)
Also kids always want a snack of some sort after prom after a long night of dancing so thats why I say add a few mini variety pack of snack bags to them. 2 in each one
Supporting your family or breastfeeding ... what is more important?
Trixiebell
For example, if a mother is the only breadwinner in the family and needs to go back to work as soon as possible because she doesn't get paid for maternity leave. She may not have time to properly establish breastfeeding before having to go back to work and start pumping, and she doesn't want to deal with pumping at work because it's a distraction and causes friction with her coworkers and boss when she has to take the time out to do it possibly missing important meetings or losing valuable time on projects. Should she lose money by missing more days of work to get breastfeeding going, plus risk losing out on opportunities that could lead to better pay, or should she and the father who stays home just go with formula from the start to make things a lot easier?
Since I know someone will ask this ... she knows pumping at work will cause friction because she has seen it happen with other employees in the past, including one breastfeeding mother who lost out on a promotion.
They have to allow it but they don't have to make it nice for you. They don't have to hold up meetings and they are allowed to give your projects away to other employees. They don't have to give you a nice relaxing room to do it in and your co-workers can be disgusted by your bottles of breastmilk in the office fridge. For many employees it's just not a great thing. I've seen it.
Women never win lawsuits for these things ... it's impossible to prove. They get passed over because they miss something that someone else doesn't so someone else gets it not them. One particular case I saw at my old job, the woman was in line for a promotion but she missed a couple of long meetings - the meeting was in another office where she would have had to pump in a dirty bathroom and had nowhere to store the milk so she opted out. Another employee who was there the whole time took the promotion instead.
Answer
Any breastfeeding is better than no breastfeeding. Even if it's impossible to pump at work (and federal law requires that workplaces provide time and space for mothers to pump [I'm at a loss as to how pumping could cause a woman to miss out on a promotion ... don't you get lunch hours? breaks?]) breastfeeding for a few weeks or a month is better than not breastfeeding at all.
And nobody but the mother herself (and her husband) can decide if the health of her baby is more important than a potential 'future job opportunity.' A year is a VERY small part of womans' work life ... but a very important part of a baby's life.
EDIT: Of course you can't control the feelings of your co-workers. But if they make a big deal about the bottles in the fridge, that would be sexual harrassment. (Or you do have the option to not put the bottles in the fridge -- an insulated bag will work just fine.)
And while of course they don't have to provide 'a nice relaxing room' -- they do have a provide a room that is NOT a bathroom, and that has an electrical outlet. Or, of course, if you have an office, you can pump there.
EDIT: What Mrs. D said. Women who are committed to breastfeeding will do what they have to do to make it work -- and they'll stand up to difficult employers. Women who aren't committed will find/make excuses to explain why they 'couldn't' breastfeed.
You are clearly not committed or motivated to breastfeed. It's your life, your choice, your breasts and your baby. You don't need our consent to do what you want to do and you don't need to come up with excuses. "I understand the risks, but I don't want to," is sufficient.
Any lunch ideas for brown bag?
plastic
My middle schooler wants to be able to just toss the brown bag and all in the trash after lunch (at school) so that she doesn't have to carry a lunch box around for 30 minutes after wards.
Most of the things I normally pack for the kids require a thermos or an ice pack.
Any suggestions for things I can pack that will keep without a thermos or ice pack, for 5 hours?
I know things like carrot sticks and grapes would be good. I'm trying to steer clear from everything in her lunch being prepackaged and loaded with carbs. thx.
Answer
You can always freeze the grapes or the bottle of water that she can use as an ice pack. They should be thawing by the time lunch comes around. Then you can tuck whatever in the lunch that she'd want to stay cold.
HELP: What to pack for lunches?
Momto2inFL
My son is 2 yrs old and I have to pack his lunch for daycare every day. I already wake up at 5 am to do so and sometimes I make things or buy things for convenience. Problem is that I really could use a little change up in what I pack for my little man.
I typically always put in fresh fruit. Apples, bananas, strawberries. Usually throw in some crackers with cheese. Maybe some PB&J sandwiches or the Uncrustables. I just discovered the Lunchable Jr.'s which are perfect for him. But I need more variety....
Do you have any suggestions of very simple things I can pack for his lunches? I feel like I'm being boring with his meals.
Also, they do NOT heat up foods for him. So if I pack something hot, it needs to be in some kind of container or thermos. Which I'd need to go purchase too!
Thank you for your help! It's VERY much appreciated!
I'm having trouble with him taking to veggies. I've tried carrots with dressing and he was iffy about it. I've done regular green beans and he's eaten those. Cucumbers are worth a shot. I love them, maybe he will too. :)
Answer
You could open up a can of carrots /green beans/Lima beans/vegetable medley or any other canned fruit or vegetable and dump some of it into small ziplock bags. These foods do not have to be warmed up since kids do not mind eating room temp green beans and such. Throw a zip lock bag into his lunch every day and the teachers can just pour it onto his plate and throw the bag away. You won't have any dishes to wash AND he'll be getting his fruits and veggies.
Chicken nuggets are another food that kids will eat at room temp or cold. If you defrost them in the morning and pack them with an ice pack, they will not be a 'food danger' because they stayed cold all morning. Since they are already cooked when you buy them, it's not raw meat.
Cheese sticks are a great thing to pack in lunches too. Lots od calcium and what kid doesn't like cheese?
I need some advice picking a lunch box.?
Lauren :)
I recently decided to make the switch from vegetarian to vegan (no mean comments on that please). However, I realize that this means my choices of food will be limited when I'm eating on the go, which I do often. I need suggestions on an animal-friendly lunch bag that I can take with me. Preferably something cute that's not to "lunch-boxy", please.
I'm willing to spend the money, since I know I'll be using it a lot, but obviously the lowest possible price would be best. I also need advice on some sort of ice pack to keep the food cold.
Basically what I'm looking for is this:
-a lunch box
-a small reusable water bottle that will fit in the lunch box
-a set of reusable utensils
I was looking at this one: http://www.reusablebags.com/store/built%C2%AE-gourmet-getaway-large-insulated-lunch-tote-french-bull-series-p-1633.html
Thanks so much for all of your help! If you need any more info, just ask. :)
Answer
That's funny, I was going to suggest exactly what you linked to. :) I don't have one, but a couple of my co-workers do. They come in soooo many different colors/patterns. I prefer old school metal character lunch boxes (I collect them). and kawaii bento boxes, myself, but I guess they're too "lunch-boxy" for your taste. :) For utensils, google "bento utensil set" or "camping utensil set", etc. With bento sets, it's usually a fork, spoon, knife, and collapsible chopsticks that fit neatly in a small container. Camping sets are the same, minus the chopsticks. I keep a set in my locker at work. You could also just buy a knife, spoon & fork at a dollar store & make your own little carrier for them out of felt or something.
Good lunch ideas that don't need to be kept cool or heated?
Snarly
I need to start packing a lunch when I go back to work in January because buying lunch each day is costing me too much and is not good for my waistline.... my only problem is I am really fussy with packed lunch. For example, whenever I put an ice pack in to keep it cool, it makes my sandwiches soggy so they don't get eaten. So now I can't put an ice pack in. I also can't heat anything at work.
So far I have got popcorn and juice packs to take, but I am looking for something more substantial to put with it!
Answer
We have a microwave & a fridge, but I keep some things at room temperature to eat them lukewarm after cooking them in the morning & eating half of it for breakfast. For instance,
curried rice & veggies & cooked apples with raisins or chopped dates & spices
Trader Joe's frozen entrees in bags, stir fried in the morning with extra steamed veggies added
warm or cold mac 'n cheese with steamed veggies added
oatmeal with apples & raisins (still good, milk or not)
all or half of a sweet potato baked that morning
Any of those can be dished up into plastic lidded containers placed in bread wrappers if needed.
Another possibility is a small wide-mouth thermos to keep them warm. If you have any doubts about the safety of what I'm doing, then by all means be safe & put cooked food in a wide-mouth thermos. In fact, that's what you'll often see the outdoors workers eating from so they'll have hot soup with their sandwiches.
Others can be taken out of the fridge in the morning & kept for several hours without much danger. Blue ice could be taken with them if you feel the need. Sandwiches can be in plastic sandwich boxes or in bread wrappers.
cheese sandwiches
cucumber & cheese sandwich--cut into fourths & put a slice of cucumber & a sprig of cilantro onto each fourth.
hummus sandwich--vinegar in hummus works well as a preservative.
almond butter & low sugar fruit preserves
cheese sandwich on pita bread with ruffly lettuce
crackers & cheese
bagel & cream cheese
homemade oatmeal muffins or cookies
I always use soy mayo (Nayonnaise) because I figure that it's less likely to spoil than a standard egg mayonnaise. Other possibilities are oil and herbs on the bread and/or a sprinkle of vinegar
Other items from the fridge can be in serving size containers or in plastic bags with twist ties. For example,
baby carrots or carrot sticks
olives
cashews, blanched almonds, or mixed nuts
plain yogurt with cardamom, cinnamon, or garam masala stirred into it
pasta salad made on the weekend
bean salad made on the weekend
a whole avocado--peel & slice at lunch & hope that it's good.
the usual apple, banana, or other fruit
I also take frozen things for the microwave & confess that even after eating breakfast, I still want to eat some of these quick lunch items at morning break & will still be ready for lunch by the time noon rolls around. It saves time & money not to rush off to the coffee shop for a chocolate muffin or a bagel.
Plain yogurt can be made overnight in a wide-mouth thermos. Heat the milk to 180 degrees then cool it down to around 95-110. (I've seen some disagreement about the 2nd temp.) Pour into a hot thermos & add a big spoonful of plain yogurt as a starter. Use a good brand from the health food store as the starter. Stir on the lid, wrap in a dish towel, & place in an insulated nylon container to keep it warm overnight. The next morning, with a little bit of luck, you'll have fresh yogurt in your thermos. It's a variation on an ancient miracle. Carry it in the thermos or put it into a little lighter weight plastic container. Over time, even plain yogurt starts to taste sweet.
Also note that the Japanese people use divided containers called Bento Boxes & have made quite an art out of packing these with a variety of dishes. After hearing about these, now the makers of plastic carriers in America have followed suit, so now you can find similar divided dishes in our big box stores, some with spaces for blue ice beneath the food. If you want to buy any sort of lunch bag or container, you'll find the best selection in the late summer when parents are buying school supplies for their kids. Other times of the year, it may be a little hard to find the insulated bags that you want.
Aside from all that fancy stuff, some of us just toss our food into some sort of cloth tote bag & head off to work. For more food, I may use a tote bag with a small cardboard box I've set inside, a good idea, too, if some things are best kept upright to avoid leakage. It's best if these bags get washed every weekend. Have an extra bag in case one is still drip drying. Forget any ironing. No one cares. Commercial cloth lunch bags may have cute sayings like, "Brown Bag," but I usually want something a little bigger than that with handles on it. I get really hungry when I'm at work. Don't forget your toothbrush btw.
