Lunch ideas for construction worker?

lunch bags for construction workers on An Evening Meal: August 2011
lunch bags for construction workers image

crazyveg

I just recently started talking to a guy that works in construction. I told him that on one of my days off I would fix him and his father, whom he also works with, lunch. However, I am more of a dinner based chef, so I was looking for ideas and suggestions. They will have been working in the heat all day and must continue on afterword, so something light would be preferable. :) Thanks in advance.

Answer
My man is in construction. Every morning I pack him a PB&J, two meat sandwiches - any lunch meat (we use sandwich thins so one is not enough), the lettuce/tom/onion/pickle for the sandwich in a separate bag, an individual side of baked chips, a Jello-pudding snack, a string cheese, a banana or container of pre-cut fruit, a canned soda, a bottle of water, and a love note.

What is the best way to ask for a reduction of amount owed to the IRS?

Tim

Answer
The only way is to file an Offer In Compromise (OIC). The IRS will want to know your income and all of your assets. Most OICs are rejected because the IRS figures that it will collect more. If you are currently unemployed, the OIC may get rejected if the IRS believes you have a chance at landing a job. If you are currently working, the IRS will expect you to pay a substantial part of your disposable income toward the debt. By disposable, I mean after paying for your rent, an old car, and food. No vacations, no private school tuition, etc. The IRS will not include meals out so count on having to brown bag your lunch every day. No Starbucks coffee drinks, in fact, no luxuries at all.

A successful OIC comes from somebody who has fallen down the income ladder. Like a construction worker who is now disabled, a corporate executive who hasn't been able to replace his former seven figure salary with anything much more than minimum wage.

If you want to try an OIC, contact an EA or CPA in your area who specializes in them. (I don't.)

I hope this helps.

What kind of lunchbox should I use in highschool?

Pink Eleph

I'm going to be a freshman in highschool this year and I'm wondering what kind of lunchbox I should use. I bring my own salad to school everyday in one of these things that squirt out the dressing and I have to bring it home everday to be washed because its reusable, so I can't bring a paper bag. I also don't want to waste the paper from paper bags when I can just reuse a lunchbox everyday, see the point? So I'm wondering if i should just use a lunchbox that looks similiar to this
http://www.impression.ca/images/product_images/Large/BL007_Insulated_LunchBag_Handle.jpg
with nicer handles, no print on the front and no bottom like that of course. I thought it would be better to use a lunchbox like that cuz it looks like the kind I've had for years and I'm just using a lunchbox instead of a paperbag.
At our school our 9th grade is in a different building than grades 10-12 so if you think it makes it matter less if I use a lunchbox or not...tell me.

Answer
As a just graduated senior, and a victim of my mother's salads-to-go, I understand your pain. Are there other options for you besides salads, because if so, maybe just take a simple turkey sandwhich and apple to school in a paperbag. I wouldn't suggest taking a lunchbox to school, even if it looks like a paperbag. Another option is a plastic bag, so you can reuse it. Or, if you aren't health consicous or anything, maybe buy your lunch at school once a week...

Healthy meal and snack ideas for teenagers? + BQ's?

Beccy

Hey, I'm a 13 year old girl and I will be 14 this year. I always say that I need To eat healthier, but now I'm really going to do it. I don't need to lose weight, i am VERY small for my age, I just want to be good to my body. I have learnt about diabetes and heart disease and other medical conditions, and that really scares me so I want to look after my self to prevent those things rather than having to deal with them,
So I wanted to know some healthy ideas for breakfast, lunch and snacks. I take my lunch to school in an insulated lunchbox with ice bricks, but some stuff still manages to not stay cold. So stuff that doesn't need to be kept cold would be great but I don't really mind.
BQ 1- what do you eat as a source of protein?
BQ 2- i would like to build up some muscle and get fitter and more flexible. What do you do to keep fit, and do you have and home workout routines?
Thankyou so much!!! xo [ :

Answer
Since you are not focused on weight loss, you should be focusing on healthy snacks that are good protein sources and nutritious :)

-almonds, cashew, peanuts, ANY type of nut would be PERFECT for you
-natural peanut butter (put it on celery, on whole wheat bread, or with multi-grain crackers)
-granola...tastes great just in a bag but also with yogurt or vanilla soy milk when you can keep it cold
-whole grain bagel or english muffin with peanut butter/cream cheese/or jam
-veggies with hummus! It needs refrigerated but would be fine until lunch
-make spanish rice with whole grain rice, black beans, tomatoes and a pack of taco seasoning the night before.
-veggie sandwich with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, avocado, cheese, hummus, etc.

good luck :)

I will be starting my first real job after college soon. What are some of the dos and don'ts on the first day?

lunch bags for professionals image

Jasmine S

I will be starting my first professional job soon. What are some of the work etiquettes that I have to look out for. Please help me out. How should I behave and what not? I am actually very nervous. Is it better to take my own lunch or eat out the first few days?

Answer
I know right, I've been through something like this, but luckly I already got into a kind of boss position, so the co-workers is that were a bit nervous, in fact. Anyway, calm down, be polite and use common sense.

Dos:
- a good first impression and dress appropriately. Wear conservative and nice clothes (pencil skirts, scoop-necked tops, cowl neck blouses, cashmere cardigans, low heel closed shoes...)
- smile and be friendly.
- when meeting your co-workers, look them in their eyes, give a solidly professional handshake and say something like âitâs a nice to meet you and Iâm looking forward to working with you.â
- listen and learn. Pay attention to what the boss and others say on the first day and take as many notes as possible.
- If you have any doubts about something, ask a few basic questions. Don't be afraid, it's better to ask than to do something wrong.
- If you have tatoos, it's better to try disguise them with makeup.
Don'ts:
- be late
- forget your documentation. When you're starting a new job, you usually need to fill out several forms and paperwork.
- gossip
- curse. Avoid bad words like "that sucks" or "f*ck". It's very unprofessional.
- tell jokes
- dress in poor clothes: flashy colors, cleavage, tube tops, low-rise pants, ripped jeans, fishnet stockings, shorts, miniskirts, excessive makeup, visible bra straps, workout outfit, crocs, outrageous hair color...If you're expected to be running up and down all day, don't wear high heels.
- overuse the cell phone. If you "must" use your cell phone, do it privately and quickly.

If you can, test drive the route to your work place before the first job day so you can calculate the time of your daily commute. Also it's nice idea to take something for lunch to work in a lunch bag or in a thermal container and prepare it the night before. Have a good night's sleep before the job day, eat a hearty breakfast and good luck.

I feel like rubbish and have an unhealthy lifestyle?

BJSnowflak

I eat rubbish like chocolate and crisps resulting in 'bags' under my eyes. I don't exercise either.

I feel rubbish and tired all the time, can someone suggest a healthier lifestyle so I don't get tired.

Answer
I'm not a professional, but I know that you should eat more fruit and vegies. With breakfast: try to have maybe some fruit like an apple, pear, banana, orange... something like that. Also try to have maybe a boiled egg on toast (1 egg, and 1 or 2 peices of brown or multigrain toast, minimum amout of butter or or spread), or a bowl of cereal, or something like that. Lunch: perhaps a sandwich and salad? Up to you but thats a pretty filling and healthy lunch :) Dinner: 50% of your plate should be vegetables, even if they were just frozen, or its some lettuce, tomato, and cucumber. Maybe a peice of meat about they size of your palm. And also something like rice, or potato, or a slice of bread.

Also: Cut out as much sugary and fatty foods as you can!! Stop with the chips, soft drinks, sweets, chocolate... as much of it as you can!! Or if you do have some, have it OCCASIONALY, and by that i mean a small peice per week, and try to make it the low fat and/or sugar versions, and they have to be occasionaal too!

If you feel peckish, have something like a low fat yoghurt, or fruit, or something small like that.

Also Try going for a walk each day. You don't have to run if you don't want to, just a 15 minute walk each day is fine. If you start finding that too easy or Maybe go for longer or faster, like jogging.

Like I said, I'n not a dietition, but that is pretty much a healthy diet and lifestyle and will probs make u a lot healthierr than a diet of sweets and rubbish.

Good luck :)

Soph :)

How do you pack a bagel with cream cheese in a preschoolers lunch if the lunch bag is not refrigerated?

lunch bags for preschool image

Whitelotus

My son's preschool has him keeps his lunch bag in his personal cubby and doesn't heat up food. Any hot foods are put in a thermos.
I would like to send him 2 mini bagels with cream cheese for lunch.
We leave at 8:30am and he eats at 12.
Do I send it cold? Warm, wrapped in foil?
I don't want the cream cheese to go bad, nor can I send it separately... Thoughts?

Answer
the cream cheese won't spoil in that length of time.
In fact, warmed like that will make it easier to spread.
you have a 4 hour window for food to be in the "danger zone" which is above 40 degrees and below 140 degrees. After that time the food should be discarded.
This is food service guidelines.
That means that it is still edible at the end of the 4 hours. It does not magically spoil at 4 hours 1 minute. It is still safe to use but don't stretch it too much after that.
cheeses are meant to be served at room temp and cheese sits out all the time at wine and cheese tastings and other big fancy meals. They don't do any of those functions in a fridge.
Your time table is fine.

For the preschool I am doing Mystery Bags?

Ducky

I have paper lunch bags. I put in things like a big marble, a Q-Tip, etc...I stapled the bags closed so the kids won't be tempted to peek. If after they explore picking the bags up and trying to guess what's inside, if I open them and tell them to reach in a feel, will they peek? Or if I say don't peek, will they listen?

Answer
If you have scarves to use as blindfolds, then that would help. That's what I use. :)

Are you making one for each child? If that's what you're planning, that really isn't necessary. You can just make a permanent bag for the classroom, and use a cloth bag and one or two blindfolds. You can change the objects every once in awhile. Have the children take turns holding an object, then guessing what it is before pulling it put.

women && girls, what do you have in your bag?

trendy lunch bags for women on Cute & Stylish Insulated Baby Bottle Bags-PVC Overlay
trendy lunch bags for women image

Valary

i was wondering what other women carried in their bags. especially girls in high school. so diiish. :]

Answer
Lets see in high school I did not have a bag. A cute backpack was enough. I was obsessed with finding the best and craziest Jansport I could. Then my freshman year in college i was into backpacks too. But now I guess ( 10 Years later) purses are much more trendy and girls wear they with a backpack. To me thats just toooo much stuff to carry around on a daily basis. But I used to have a walket, my pager ( we did not have cell phones) and some quarters to use the pay phone at lunch. Oh and dont forget my Wet and Wild lip stick!

Would a Train Case makeup bag make a good lunch box in high school?

{RAwR}

yeahh would that be a good option???

i already know where i can get them, thats no problem ;)
sorry, i wasnt quite sure how to catagorize this question ;)
hmm i dont really have a backpck, i have a hugeantic juicy bag lol

and trust me, its NOT all i have to worry about, i have family problems and relatonship stuff and most importantly being able to retin the information i learned over the last year in my head drring summer. and going to new yourk, too.

its just a question impersonl enough to ask random people on the internt ;)

Answer
those are adorable. i would go for something a bit smaller to stick in your backpack. if you really want to use if for your lunch its fine but it would be so much cute as like a relay makeup/tolitries/women products stuff. but its cute has a lunch bag. :]]

I've seen the infomercial countless times advertising the Packit freezable lunch bag that keeps food cool up to 10 hours. Anyone have one of these and what are your thoughts on it?
Thanks!

Answer
They work about the same as any other freezer pack. It depends on the temperature where you leave your lunch.

What to include in a lunch bag for a Toddler?

purplehear

My 4 yr old nephew is starting pre-k in a couple of days and idk what to put in his lunch bag. I know to include a fruit a juice box but idk what else as the main thing!

Answer
My daughter is 4 and I pack her a lunch a few times a week (if she doesn't like what they are serving for hot lunch in the cafeteria).
Here is what I will usually include (not all at once, of course)

Main:
Turkey wrap
Peanut butter sandwich
Turkey rolls with pepperoni (I just roll up sliced turkey and secure with a small toothpick)
Dry cereal with a small container of milk
Egg salad

Fruit:
Grapes
Sliced Strawberries with kiwi
Blueberries
Pineapple
Melon (whatever is on sale)
Peeled and sectioned oranges

Veggies:
Carrots with a small container of ranch dressing
Jicama
Raw Snow peas
(she's a little picky about raw veggies so I don't usually pack as much variety)

Treats and Other Stuff:
Homemade pudding
Homemade Jello (very easy to make with fruit juice and unflavored gelatin)
Go-go Squeeze Apple-Banana Pouches
Muffin (usually blueberry, pumpkin or banana nut, basically whatever I have made recently)
Cheese cubes
Animal Cookies

I will usually include juice, milk or water to drink. Invest in a small thermos for his drink, that way you can choose what goes inside. Most juice boxes are almost all artificial sugar, at least if you are putting the juice in you can choose something with natural sugars (100% juice, not the fruit punch junk) or just put in milk or water (my daughter loves water in her lunch, she doesn't really drink much milk unless it's on cereal).

how do i feed a family of 4 on a budget?

kids lunch bags that keep food cold on Bento Lunch Box Thermal Insulated Cloth Bag Keep Hot Cold Brown Dot ...
kids lunch bags that keep food cold image

cin

I have a family of 4 two adults one 9 year old and one 2 year old. the next 3 weeks are kinda tight on our budget i need tips and meals to cook on a budget. i have about $100 to spend total and i need milk, bread, you know all those mandotory things along with meal food. please help....i need ideas. thanks

Answer
This is how you do it... though I have to say if you're needing just to get through the week you can't worry about the kids being choosy... just fed...

O.k.... this is what I do:

You have to use the "same" ingredients throughout each meal... i.e. you can use bread for toast in the morning, bread for sandwiches, etc.

I have also found that "potatoes", "pasta", and "rice" can stretch food a lot...

Try:

- Eggs for breakfast... These are cheap, about $2 - $3 for a carton of 18 eggs... with whole wheat bread that you can find for cheap (they usually have whole wheat bread for less, anywhere from $2 - $3, than the whole grain versions)... Pancake mixes can also be stretched or better yet... french toast...

- For lunch... egg salad sandwiches (where eggs are used for breakfast as well and only cost $2 for about 4 days worth of sandwiches and another loaf of bread can cost $2 as well)... I also like to fry or poach the egg and put it between two pieces of toast with a little browned ham or turkey bacon (you can see if they have the "Carl Budding" brand cold cuts which are only around $1 - $2... You can also buy ramen noodles and add eggs to them while still cooking for like an egg drop soup thing... Plus, you can buy hot dogs for $3 and cheap hot dog buns for like $2 - $3...

- For dinner... and here is where it gets cool... you can stretch food by buying potatoes and making mashed potatoes (they only cost about $2 - $3 bucks a bag for like 10 or 12), then buying ground beef, a family size pack, and using that in meatloaf (which you can stretch the meatloaf with bread or bread crumbs or oats, etc.) while using what's left of the ground beef in a chili (where you can stretch that chili by buying and adding more beans - which only cost $1 - $2 a bag...) You can also take the ground beef and potatoes and make a sheppards pie (see... still using the potatoes and ground beef)... You can also make Chicken fricasee... by buying tomato paste ($1 - $2)... a family pack of chicken, which brings like 10 - 12 pieces of legs and thighs... add potatoes, carrots, onions and place in a pot with water, salt, pepper, and tomato paste and let simmer... You can also buy rice and stretch any meal by making a sauce and serving with rice... You can also take that same chicken and use it in another recipe by putting it in the oven with some potatoes, carrots, onions, salt, pepper and making some roasted chicken... You can also use those potatoes (that only cost $2 bucks a bag) and make some mashed potatoes to go with that baked chicken... serve with some rice (see how I keep using the same ingredients for a ton of different dishes?)... You can also take those potatoes as well as those carrots and onions and the mayonnaise you used for the egg salad, as well as some eggs... and make "potato salad" which you can serve with "fried chicken" that you can make in the pan with the bread that you can toast and crumb in the blender or the bread crumbs you use for the meatloaf... or you can even serve the potato salad with the baked chicken.... (See....? So far that's chili with baked potatoes, meatloaf with either mash potatoes or as sandwiches, sheppard's pie, baked chicken with roasted vegetables and rice, chicken fricasee with rice, and fried chicken with potato salad... You can even take those potatoes with a little bit of oil and make oven fries... That's 7 dishes to choose from for dinner... That's pretty good)... You can also use leftovers from one dinner to the next if you have them....

The grocery list would look something like:
- Eggs 2 packs of 18 ($4 or $5)
- Whole Wheat bread (2 loaves) ($4 or $5)
- Ground beef, family pack/large, 2 packs ($8)
- Chicken legs & thighs, family pack/large, 1 pack ($4 - $5)
- Potatoes, 2 bags ($4 - $5)
- Carrots, 2 bags ($2 - $3)
- Onions, 2 bags ($2 - $3)
- Bread Crumbs ($2 - $3)
- Mayonnaise ($2 - $3)
- Beans, 1 bag ($1)
- Rice, 1 medium bag ($4 - $5)
- Tomato Paste, 1 large can ($1)
- Ramen Noodles, 9 packs ($3 - at 3 for $1)
- Hot dogs, 1 pack ($3 - $4)
- Buns, 1 pack ($2 - $3)
- Pancake mix, 1 box ($2 - $3)
- Syrup ($2 - $3)
- Carl Budding Cold Cuts, 2 packs ($2)

That comes out to a total of $63...

Then you could probably rework your list to add things like spaghetti (which is only like $1 - $2 bucks a bag and for one dinner you'll only need two)... then add a can of spagetti sauce which is like $4 - $5... which makes a total of $7 to add to the total of $63 which will then add to $70... and you'll STILL have 30 bucks for whatever else... like milk, cereal... even oil if you don't have it at home... or sugar-free boxes of jello (which only cost $1 each) to make for the kids if they want a little dessert or snack...

If you could find a sale or cut coupons.... you'd save even more....

I have a flat napsack looking cooler bag. What is the best way to prepare it so that it keeps my food cool for at least 6 hrs?

Answer
I would store it in the fridge overnight, open, so that the insulating materiel and the inside are good and cold. then, only put cold food into it. You could, if there is room, add one of those gel packs you freeze to help maintain temp.

I am a high school student in search of the perfect backpack. HELP! I do not like my one-over-the-shoulder-bag. It causes back and shoulder-blade pain. I need some advice!!

I'd like the backpack to fit these requirements:

-Not to bulky or mountain-climber-looking
-Support in back area. Comfy, not hard on shoulders or back
-Big enough to hold, spirals, expandable folder, pencil case, lunch box, etc.
-Make it cute! I prefer blue :) (Nothing to flashy)

Please help!!!

I'm a 13 year old girl I'm 5'4 and I weigh 133 pounds. I don't know if I'm over weight or not. I eat very healthy (meats, veggies, fruits) and I drink plenty of water every day. I just want to get a flat stomach and smaller thighs. I don't want to be a bag of bones because honestly I've tried to starve myself but it never worked. I usually skip lunch because I'm not hungry but then I just have 1-2 crackers most of the time.. Also how come whenever I eat dinner I feel like I have to throw up for about 15 minutes then that feeling is gone and I'm fine. It's weird. Please help. I would like to loose about 10 or 15 pounds. And fast. Thank you! :)

How to lose weight without eating too healthy?

Iris

I'm 14 years old, a girl. Pretty tall, 5'11 and I'm 120 pounds. I don't often weigh myself, and this weight REALLY shocked me. I'm pretty active, I run every day (I'm on the track team) for about 3 hours. On Saturdays, I have swim practice for an hour and on Sundays, I run about 3 to 3 and a half miles with my dad.
I actually eat a lot. My breakfast is usually a Hot Pocket, since I need something quick and easy make. My lunch at school is pretty unhealthy, a cheese pizza, French fries, chicken nuggets, whatever's on the menu. Then I have a bag of popcorn as a small snack. If I don't get a chance to get lunch, I get a bag of chips. Very rarely after track practice, I get another bag of chips, but VERY rarely. When I get home, SOMETIMES I eat a small snack, like a few hot Cheetos or some Pringles before I head to take a shower. After my shower is usually dinner. Then, I start to get hungry around 10. So, I sit down and watch TV and eat snacks until about 11, but this doesn't happen EVERY DAY.
I'm quitting track in my sophomore year in order to join Raiders for the US Army JROTC program. They do intense workouts, like push-ups, sit-ups, rope bridge, team runs, individual 5k, etc. they're a pretty physically active team.
So, point is, how can I lose weight without drastically changing my eating habits? Any advice would be great!

Answer
I too am 5'11 and at 120 you do not need to lose weight you actually bhaveba low weight for your height losing weight would be too skinny for your frame and you couldn't keep up with ROTC I can figure out why you would lose weight already being underweight rule of thumb is 100 lbs for 5 feet and 5lbs for every inch so in actuality the mid point is 155 though at 5'11 depending on build a weight range would be 138-165 check BMI charts ...so a well balanced diet would make you less likely to be hungry monitoring your carbs not being excessive protein should be half your weight in grams, thus if you weigh 120 you need a minimum of 60 grams of protein and so on...but truthfully you need at least 15 pounds on you as an active person...so if your doing carbs as you are complex ones will make you less healthy like brown rice and grains, eat more protein fish chicken is healthier...but your question is mystifying as you are not overweight and the last thing you should do is lose weight your knocking on the door of anorexia if you are consumed with losing...see a doc they will have a good diet plan....you can eat what you want as long as balanced and suger also raises hunger..but truthfully stay away from diets and eat more and decrease junk food will be your demise eventually you are lacking nutrition and your body will fail you...get to a doctor I am truly afraid your underweight and you are not seeing it and if not you actually have a serious eating disorder good luck
