I want to take a deep dish pizza from Chicago to Taiwan. How can I do this and what are the restrictions?

This is important because Giordano's is local to Chicago.

Answer
Interesting enough. Recently, people from US expressed interests in bringing burrito and/or pizza to Taiwan.

First off, Pizza Hut and Domino, and more pizza places are already there in Taiwan.

Then, if you really want to bring pizza, consider from the time you leave your place heading to O'Hare airport, check in, board, first leg of flight, make the connection, second part of the flight, arrival, etc.? That's 24 hours already.

As for Taiwan custom regulations, no fresh veggies or fruits are allowed. Meat products are not allowed, either.

If you really have to do it, I'd bake the veggie pizza, wait until cooled, slice to smaller pieces, freeze them, stack and put in three layers of plastic wrapper, put in fully insulated lunch bag along with freezable ice packs. Put in your checked-in luggage.

At Taiwan's custom, there are sniffing dogs and they just may show interest of what you've got.

Hewww... that's a lot of work for bringing pizza to Taiwan.

What is a cheap camera bag?

I need something padded and I don't want to spend over twenty dollars.

I need to hold 3 lenses, a P&S and a body.

Well my friends would always call my lunch the "dessert". I would always take it as a joke, because I wasn't really concerned about my weight or anything like that. My mom packs my lunch, so she isn't much of a cook so she just throws in a bag of chips, a few strawberries, and a nutty bar. It's kinda our usual thing lol but recently I decided to try jelly and it's AMAZING so I eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches all the time now haha. But my friends still think my lunch is unhealthy. All of my friends' parents pack their kids lunch with fancy, cooked lunches and a small piece of chocolate as their dessert. And also I am a dancer, NOT A RUNNER, so whenever we run in PE they always act concerned about what I'm eating. It's so annoying. I am more of a sprinter, not a long distance runner. I also have a 6 pack! But nooo, abs don't matter, if you can't run a mile in 5 minutes your unhealthy!! Also I remember the last time I ran the mile my friends were talking during lunch and they were all like "Ugh I got 6 minutes on the mile, I am SOO out of shape!" And then after 10 minutes of them complaining later they asked me "What did you get on the mile?" And I replied "10 minutes and (forgot time lol) seconds" and they were all like "Oh.." and looked at each other all weird. I dance 12 hours a week but according to my friends I am out of shape?! I am sick of it and I want them to stop calling my lunch unhealthy. What are some good yet easy yet tasty foods? Haha my mom is lazy about packing lunches and also I want my lunch to taste GOOD, unlike most of my friends' lunches. Thanks!

Answer
Actually, you and your Mom are not that far off the mark. With a few changes, you can make your lunch pleasing, and healthier. But, make no mistake, peanut butter really is not the best substitute for say, an egg, or a couple ounces of baked chicken. But it is good, and filling, and somewhat healthy. diabetics get to have it, so can you. Watch the amount you put on the sandwich, 2 tablespoons is the serving size.

Swap out the white bread on your sandwich to whole wheat bread. And switch the jelly to honey. Yum, honey is packed with good nutrition, and a classmate showed me her PB and H sandwich back in 2nd grade. Love them.
Toss in a banana or an apple, your strawberries are fine if they do not have sugar on them.

Switch out the chips to pretzels, or veggie chips. Or, bring some baked chips and salsa. Salsa has almost ) calories. And it is good for you.

Wraps are great, use your imagination, or copy flavors from the fast food restaurants.

things that are good for you, and taste great, are easy to pack, and are healthy are:
a box of raisins
a package of almonds, or trail mix, or dried peanuts
a fruit cup [just pour fruit cocktail into a tupperware, rather than buy that expensive one at the store
some healthy cookies, like oatmeal raisin
Cheese, like laughing cow, and some healthy crackers. Or a cube of cheddar
carrot sticks
-celery sticks stuffed with peanut butter, or Kraft jar cheese, found in the grocery aisle by the Velveeta. My Dad liked the pimento, rivers liked the Old english. Stick some raisins on the peanut butter, call it "ants on a log."
A boiled egg, or a deviled egg, made with diet mayo. You can't taste that it is diet because of the spices.

Do what Rivers does, and take leftovers from supper to school. a plastic container with a sturdy lid, or a wide mouth thermos would work. Pack things like crackers and bread in plastic, too, so they do not get crunched. So easy, go eat your dinner, let the leftovers cool, and go back and scoop them up into your container and put them in the refrigerator.
cook extra, and have enough for Mom, too for her to take to work. It is no less trouble to cook 4 pork chops, than it is to cook 2.

good luck!

How long can I store unfrosted cupcakes before they go bad? Do I freeze them?

dottiesunf

I plan to make cupcakes during the weekend and share them with my colleagues on Wednesday. I'm frosting them on Tuesday, can any one recommend how do I store the cupcakes so that they stay fresh, before AND after the frosting? Do I need to put them in the fridge or just store them on the counter in an airtight container?

Answer
Ok, yes you can freeze frosted or unfrosted. When I was young my mom would make cupcakes, frost them and then freeze them. After they have been frozen my mom would pull them out and wrap them individually in wax paper and then put them into a zip lock bag. I would then take them out one at a time as I needed them. By the time I ate lunch at school my cupcake was thawed out. Now since you are not keeping them and serving them individually I would suggest and this is what I do for my kids at school. I went and bought those zip lock or glad ware containers that are the rectangular but deep size. After the cupcakes have cooled, put them in these containers and put them in the fridge or freezer. Freezing them will keep them just a bit fresher. On Tuesday when you get home from school pull them out of the freezer and full them out of the container. Frost them and then put them back in the container side by side. This will prevent them from falling over and damaging the frosting. Put them in the fridge over night, this will help the frosting set too. When you get to work the next day let the container sit open slightly so that as they are coming to room temp to serve, they do not get any condensation built up on them. Good luck and enjoy...

How do I fix my friend? He is acting really weird. PLEASE HELP!?

Charlie Sh

So my friends name is Joe and I've known him for about 6 months. That may seem like a short period of time but it feels like we've known each other for ever. He kind of asked my out but didn't at the same time, he doesn't think he asked me out but yeah he has liked me ever since grade eight camp at the start of the year (we didn't go out). Its not like we're just friends we are like joined at the hip, you don't often see Joe without me or me without Joe (but not in a gf bf way).

So anyway this week he's been saying stuff like Ben's cool and Sam's cool, but Sam and Ben a real up-them-selves douche-bags in our form class. And we've always said that they're douche-bags.

So in period two in drama he was like 'wrestling' (if you will) with Sam and they were getting along and I have no problem with that, I kind of friends with him two but we're not good mates like me and Joe.

After period two we went straight to period three which is History and I sit in the desk behind him with my mate Sam H. but for these purposes I'll call him Bob so you don't get confused. So I sat down next to Bob, me and Bob are pretty close, he was the first guy friend whose house I went to (it was his birthday and there were other girls there). And then Joe starts being really douchey and starts taking Bob's and my stuff and not in the friendly 'ha ha' way.

So I told him 'Your not a douche bag don't act like one' and then he starts making fun of what I said, and calling me names. Too be honest I'm not too bothered by that I just want him to be my friend Again.

So we come out of history to lunch and I go see my girl friends and then I go see my mixed Friends and then I go see my guy friends (the group that Joe hangs out with when he's not hanging out with me) and he starts goin "Ya wanna fight? Ya wanna fight c^nt?" and that really shocked me. I mean we swear our heads off but we don't seriously call each other that.

So then Sean who has been calling me a really crappy nickname that has annoyed me for weeks says "Slap him and I'll stop calling you that" so I walk up to him and lightly tap him on the cheek, I don't want to slap him for real. So then he punches me in the shoulder really hard, kicked me and walked off to get something fro his locker.

Hugh tried to lighten the mood with a joke "Violence against women, Australia says no! Violence against Lauren, Australia say RIGHT ON!' and we all had a laugh. Then Joe come up behind me and punches me full on in the back. It didn't hurt very much but it hurt me on the inside. So then I left to go see my grade 9 friends and usually Joe comes with me but obviously this time he didn't.

Last week he was punching me in the shoulder hard and it gave me a bruise too but it was in a friendly way.

So what did I do wrong and how do I fix it? I just want my friend back. (I'm not concerned about the violence and name-calling). Please help.
I AM NOT DATING HIM!

Answer
i don't think you've done anything wrong but if it were me i would dump him unless he changes his act you could tell him you will dump him or something if he doesn't stop being mean.

Qweritiord

I'm a little nervous for some reason but I don't know why. I was sort of at the top in middle school. I was nice and talked to everybody so I was known by almost everyone. I wouldn't consider myself "popular" though. I know high school will be different so do you have any tips for freshman and for my next 4 years in high school?

Answer
1. Say hi to the person sitting next to you in each of your classes.
2. Go in with a positive attitude
3. Get to know your teacher's school emails so you can submit papers, ask questions etc.
4. Don't be embarrassed or afraid to raise your hand to ask questions.
5. If you fall behind make sure you get help right away because then you will fall so far behind you'll have a hard time getting back on track.
6. Buy a whiteboard/ cork-board for your room or one of those wipe off wall stickers, and write down the due dates of assignments, long term projects, extended homework, group work, trips anything important.
7. Buy a mini whiteboard for your locker or a few magnets and write down the same things.
8. If you have no one to sit with at lunch sit alone, someone will come over to you :)
9. Get the phone number of someone in each of your classes for homework etc.
10. Take notes.
11. Keep your notes organized!!!!

12. You don't need a boyfriend to make you happy.
13. Don't ever lose a friend over a boy.
14. Getting into fights is not cute
15. Be assertive not to nice, not to mean.
16. Don't let people tale advantage of you.
17. If you happen to go out with an upperclassmen be careful. If a senior is after you they usually do want one thing. Now this doesn't mean that you have to stay away because there are very nice guys too.
18. You are not in love with someone after a month.
19. Juniors and seniors will leave you alone for the most part, sophomores are a different story.
20. Never go to a party alone. EVER
21. Unless you can drive don't have a friend suggest driving you to and from somewhere unless you know 100% there is a designated driver or your friend will not drink. ( yes high school parties have drinking)
22. Don't do drugs
23. Surround yourself with positive people
24. Join clubs, teams and things you like because you like it not to fit in.
25. Always make time for friends
26. Even best friends let secrets go, be mindful of what you tell who.
27. Don't listen to or spread rumors. Your eyes are the witness of the truth
28. If you have a problem talk it out. Tell your friend but ideally find an adult whom you trust completely to talk you through what's wrong.
29. Having a relationship with your parents is important.
30. Someone, somewhere will have a problem with you. Be the bigger person and ignore it.
31. Don't start drama, high schools more fun that way.
32. Girls can be mean.
33. Have pride, and dignity in yourself.
34. The girls that are sluts and get all the attention usually have self esteem issues.
35. People get pregnant, things happen, so protect yourself and never abandon a friend who is going through this.

do anyone have any clever ideas to collect change for charity?

js4565

my high school is collecting change for the local hospital. does anyone have an ideas (other than going around to tables at lunch) to collect spare change from the students?

Answer
If your talking on raising money outside of school then these are things that I have either been involved with or seen done:
You could ask your local supermarket if a few of you can go down and pack bags for a small donation to the charity, you may need a letter from the school or the charity to prove you are raising money.
Get one of the boys to be sponsered to be waxed, you can buy the wax strips that you just warm up, place down and pull off.
Put on a fashion or talent show in the school and sell tickets
Guess the name of a teddy (person donates to guess and the winner gets the teddy)
Guess how many sweets are in a jar ( except one unlucky person will have to count all the sweets before they go in)
A charity bingo game, ask local shops or businesses if they can donate a prize
Ask the head teacher if you can do a sponsered day, e.g. messy hair day, PJs, non-uniform day
Sponser the teachers to do a sponsered silence, get them to be quiet for a while!
Coffee morning, ask a local shop to donate coffee, milk and sugar and set up a coffee stall.

Good luck with raising money and I hope you have fun doing it!

I am the chairperson of my school's prom favors committee. What are some things that you have received or like to receive as prom favors? Be creative!

note: we have a $10 per person budget.

Answer
Here are several ideas enclosed: http://hubpages.com/hub/_BellaMevents_HIGHSCHOOLPROMKEEPSAKE

My favorite is the lunch tote to prepare the kids for college and/or work after high school. It does not have to be customized. I would leave it plain. The pattern fits both boys and girls. You can add a customized tag to each from a computer. "Class of 2011" on a circle tag with glitter to jazz it up is something different. Also they can be wrapped in cellophane. The back of the tag can have a quote about the memories together that go on during high school. Many were made during lunch :)

Also kids always want a snack of some sort after prom after a long night of dancing so thats why I say add a few mini variety pack of snack bags to them. 2 in each one

Does it make sense to put an insulated lunch bag in the refrigerator?

lunch bags for work on Details about Lunch Box Tote Bag School Teacher Student Pink Polka Dot ...
lunch bags for work image

andyk

I've noticed that my co-workers at my office put their insulated lunch bags in the refrigerator. Since the purpose of an insulated lunch bag seems to be to protect the contents from the outside environment, would it make more sense to remove the contents from the bag and put it directly in the refrigerator?

Answer
I do it coz there is no room for a cold pack in the lunch bag. My food doesn't stay cold. I use the bag to carry my lunch. I need to keep it cold. It just makes sense to me. I'm not losing any part of my lunch to someone who will take it if it's not in the bag. Been there, done that.

How do you pack a bagel with cream cheese in a preschoolers lunch if the lunch bag is not refrigerated?

Whitelotus

My son's preschool has him keeps his lunch bag in his personal cubby and doesn't heat up food. Any hot foods are put in a thermos.
I would like to send him 2 mini bagels with cream cheese for lunch.
We leave at 8:30am and he eats at 12.
Do I send it cold? Warm, wrapped in foil?
I don't want the cream cheese to go bad, nor can I send it separately... Thoughts?

Answer
the cream cheese won't spoil in that length of time.
In fact, warmed like that will make it easier to spread.
you have a 4 hour window for food to be in the "danger zone" which is above 40 degrees and below 140 degrees. After that time the food should be discarded.
This is food service guidelines.
That means that it is still edible at the end of the 4 hours. It does not magically spoil at 4 hours 1 minute. It is still safe to use but don't stretch it too much after that.
cheeses are meant to be served at room temp and cheese sits out all the time at wine and cheese tastings and other big fancy meals. They don't do any of those functions in a fridge.
Your time table is fine.

Tanya

I found some good containers that keep food cold (which is great because there is no access to a refrigerator) but no good ones that keep food hot/warm (at least, not in my budget). I'm going to be starting college in a couple of weeks and the only thing I can think to take are sandwiches and salads. Any ideas on what to take would be awesome (healthy ideas would be more so), thanks.

Answer
have you thought about a thermos?

or an insulated lunch bag?

as long as you put stuff thats already hot in it they will keep it warm

otherwise if you have access to hot water you could have noodle cups

or if you have a sandwich press you could toast your sandwich

or you could have wraps

Is there a container that keeps food warm?

Whiteboy

I like to make myself some hot sandwiches that would be spoilt if they get cold. They don't taste as good even after i use a microwave. Is there a container to keep it in its original state as long as possible?

Answer
Look for an insulated bag or insulated lunch bag similar to the one shown here:
http://www.icydiamondtotes.com/
Be aware that most sandwiches, even if kept hot, might get soggy after a few hours.

theres about 2000 or more kids in my new high school and i have the last lunch so not only does the food suck when i get there but im usually way back in the line because my previous class is so far away from the cafeteria and i dont have time to eat anything. i was thinking i could take my own lunch but i need some variety. the only thing i can really think of is a home made sub sandwich and i cant think of anything else to go with it(i dont really want chips), any other ideas for lunches? also does anyone know of a good type/brand of lunch box or something that can keep hot food hot and cold food cold?
oh, and can we be mature about this?

Answer
Sandwiches are the easiest, and there are about a million different varieties to make. Cold pasta is also really good for lunch. You can also take salads or soups, depending on the weather. Invest in a good thermos, they are soo handy for soup, hot chocolate, hot water, etc. Take a lot of veggies, they are good for you and its better to snack on them than chips or snack foods. Try dried fruits and trail mix. Load up on fresh fruits too. I use an insulated bag that keeps everything the proper temperature.

Have any lunch ideas for people who work outside?

I'm looking for lunch on the go ideas for workers with no microwave, or table. Workers in areas such as construction, landscaping, trucking, etc.... Any help appreciated.

Answer
You did not describe the scenario. I am assuming you are feeding men who work for you or you want to bring and sell food at job sites. If you want to sell at job sites make sure you are properly incensed to do so and have board of heath approval for your kitchen. I had a small landscaping business for 10 years. I had 2 foremen and 2 full time laborers. When I needed extra man power I hired day labor from a local agency. I always fed my guys lunch. I had a large water cooler on the truck. I also had an ice chest with Gator Aid or Power Aid, and sandwich fixings - sliced meat, cheese, mayonnaise and mustard. A loaf of bread and individual bags of chips. Some times I made tuna or chicken salad for sandwiches. On the last day of the job I would bring a cold shrimp pasta salad. In the winter I had had thermos bottles so each man could have a small cup of hot soup or chili with the sandwich - served in a Solo cup about 1/2 full. Laborers need carbs and fats to keep their energy up. I never had soft drinks or caffeine drinks on the job site. I treated my guys well and in general they worked well. There was always the lazy odd ball that I drove back to the agency at lunch time and refused to pay the agency. After a couple of times the agency took care to send me men who were actually willing to work. I had no use for warm bodies.. Hard workers require fuel so allow for at least 2 sandwiches and 2 individual bags of chips per man. I shopped at Sam's Club where I could buy in bulk.

Good luck

JT

i'm from the uk and will be travelling to orlando this year and i was just wondering how much these things would cost to buy from walmart?

minute maid lemonade light (bottle or carton) do they sell it in bulk?
bottles of water
snacks (chips, candy, fruit etc)

also, how much money do you think i will need to take if i want to buy food and drink everyday, a few souvenirs and clothes etc?

thankyou.

Answer
minute maid drinks come in a box of 10 for $2.17 (they use to be $1.97) .. it is not sold in bulk but if you have access to a BJs or Sams Club, you can purchase them there in bulk ... honestly, the Walmart is cheap enough since you will go there anyway ...

Water bottles... for 16.9 oz bottles, 24 bottles to the case, you can pay anywhere from $3.48 to $3.99. It just depends on what brand you want.. there is store brand, Zephyrihills, Deer Park, Nestle Pure Life and more...

Snacks... range in price... candy, same thing .. from bags of items for $1.00 and up .. there are just too many to choose from... fruit, reasonable...

You can buy Disney souvenirs from the Walmart on Lake Buena Vista, just outside of Disney on the 535 Road but IDK if you are going to SeaWorld or Universal... I would say average about $1,000 (US) but that depends on your family size ... or your budget.. some people can come and spend more, some can spend less.... Either way, your money is worth more here for you, good thing for you... Buy at Walmart.. your breakfast and lunch stuff/snacks to take to the park and eat a nice hot dinner out.. think about $65 for a family dinner for 4 -5 ... kids meals are about $4.99 - 6.99 per person, adults... well, wide range for dinner but would average it at $14.99 for adult nice dinner, fast food is obviously cheaper...

Alternatives to a lunch box for a little lunch to put in my backpack?

Baba

I'm a junior in high school and I don't need a huge lunch but I also eat a snack during school to stay focused. I've looked at bento boxes and stuff, 'cause I usually just use some plastic containers that I stick in my backpack. Is there anything better? Our lockers are fairly small so I don't really want a whole extra bag for my lunch. Thanks!

What should i give my dog for lunch and dinner? He hates store-bought food.?

lunch bags for nutrition breaks image
Q. I have a one year old pug, Buddy. We bought him all types of dog food from the market - canned or dry, any flavor. But he hates it. So we give him bread/milk/omelette mixed with leftovers (we are ovo-vegetarians) We tried giving him rice and bananas but he doesn't like them either. He eats rice if i mix it with omelette, but not otherwise. Is it okay to give him just bread/milk/omelette? Is it healthy for him? If it is not, then what should i give him?
Thanks a BUNCH!

Answer
This is why vets are afraid of dog owners feeding home made or raw.

Your dog will easily die a slow painful death with that kind of diet. It's not balanced. What makes you think bread, milk and an omelette would be balanced nutrition? First, most dogs can't break down lactose, so he won't be getting much if any calcium from milk. Second, BREAD? Why...I just .. why would you think bread is healthy for dogs? If you look at any of those bags of kibbles or cans you bought, does it have "bread" or "flour" in any of those ingredients?

What you should give your dog is a FULL VET PHYSICAL and blood work to make sure nothing is physically wrong which can account for his low appetite. If that's all fine or if you've already done that, then you put down a healthy dog food for 15 minutes. If he doesn't eat it, take it away and put it down again in a few hours. A healthy dog will not starve himself.

I'm looking for a simple, healthy diet to reduce visceral belly fat, will just following the my pyramid guide?

Jes V

accomplish this? Thanks.

Answer
The pyramid diet is fine, just be sure that the carbs you are eating are mostly whole wheat. Reduce sugars as much as you can.

I am in the process of losing weight, I have lost 30 lbs in the last 3 1/2 months, here is a sample of my diet.
7:30 Breakfast: 1 1/2 plain oatmeal with 1 tsp maple syrup, 1 tsp. peanut butter, fruit, 8 oz skim milk (16 oz water)
10:00 Snack: sugar snap peas, carrots and almonds (16 oz water)
12:30 Lunch: chicken (cook a whole chicken ever Sunday and make strips for salads and shred some for sandwiches and stuff) sandwich with avocado instead of mayo, spinach and shredded cheese (this way I get the cheese I need, but you don't eat as much as if it were a slice), an orange, 2 celery sticks (20 oz water)
4:00 Snack: (kids are home) peanut butter on 1 slice whole wheat toast with bananas and honey, carrots, (3 parts) plain yogurt (1 part) vanilla yogurt with berries (usually frozen $$) (16 oz water)
7:00 Dinner: dark greens salad (usually a mix of romaine and spinach b/c they seem to be the cheapest) with chicken, Craisins, thinly slices apples, sliced almonds, fresh Parmesan cheese, and a couple croutons, 8 oz milk

I eat all my food on the smaller plates and I put away food before we sit at the table. I keep a party tray of vegetables cut up and in the fridge always. This is great for when you really wanting a snack but just want to reach for a bag of chips(which are not allowed in my house) because you don't want to prepare a snack. This is also great for kids or for when you decide to have a movie night or game night, your snacks are already prepared.

Also try sparkpeople.com (they are a free website that you can input your weight, nutrition and activities in and it will give you a diet plan. It has been really helpful in my weight loss.
Here is an answer I wrote earlier today, it is not exactly tailored to your question, but there are a lot of tips in there...

You would benefit by eating a larger breakfast, medium lunch, and a smaller dinner. This way you will have the bulk of your calories in the morning and will be able to burn off most of those calories during the day. If you are just reducing calories, you are not really benefiting your body much. Exercise will increase your metabolism which will allow you to burn off calories at a faster pace.

Try eating foods that your body has to work at to digest. Carrots, celery, dark green lettuce, all of these foods (and many more) take about the same amount of calories (energy) to chew and break down the food particles, so by the time they pass through your body you have burned more calories than you ate.

Try drinking a water instead, or if you can't resist a small. The aspartame in the diet foods are not good for you and are not helpful in weight loss. It is very important to drink plenty of water. Without consistent and adequate water intake, your body thinks it is not going to have enough water for your body to function properly so it stores it. By drinking 50+ oz of water a day, in about two weeks, you will lose weight because your body will release the stored water that is has been saving (thinking that it's going to run out).

Also, your bones are growing still, milk and other foods rich in calcium and vitamin D are very important. If your bones are not getting enough calcium, they are not going to be as strong (more hollow, less dense) therefore, you will be more susceptible to breaking them, especially as you age!

Good luck to you, I hope this all helps!

How long does an insulated bag work for?

insulated lunch bag large on ... 13
insulated lunch bag large image

~ <3 ~

I'm going to be at college for 12hrs, plus another 2hrs driving time.

If I were to keep some food in an insulated bag, APPROXIMATELY (to your best knowledge) how many hours max would it stay fresh for if:

-the food was reallly hot or frozen?
-it was just sorta cold?

Thanks.

Answer
I found this for you. Hope it helps!

Lunch Bags & Boxes
The first thing you will need is a container in which to pack the lunch. It doesn't need to cost a lot of money. For adults a small cooler makes a great lunch box. Fred uses a medium sized cooler. He is usually gone for 24 to 48 hours, so he needs alot of food to keep him going. For children and teenagers, you can usually find inexpensive lunch boxes and insulated lunch bags at yard sales and thrift stores.

Small children often prefer a plastic lunch box with cartoon characters on the side. I suggest you buy these as cheaply as possible. They only last for a year or two before the children drop them or the latch breaks. At $6 to $10 a piece, buying brand new boxes has never been a good investment for me. I have purchased them new when I desperately needed the thermoses that came with them. After the plastic lunch box broke, I purchased replacements from my local Goodwill. I continue to use the same thermos year after year.

If the art work on an older lunch box is shabby, you can easily replace it. Use rubber cement to glue down a new picture (cut to size) and then cover the picture with clear contact paper. I've done this, and it lasted almost 2 years, until the lunch box cracked and became unusable. Amy D. describes the process in detail in the first book of The Tightwad Gazette.

For older children insulated lunch bags work best. They don't have the juvenile connotations of plastic boxes with matching thermoses, so older kids usually don't object to carrying them. I like them because they don't break when they get drop-kicked across the livingroom by a budding football player. Since they have soft sides, it is easier to fit more food and odd-shaped containers in them too. They usually have zipper closing and shoulder straps for carrying them. I buy the largest ones I can find because I find them easier to fill. Many modern insulated bags have several extra zipper pockets and sections on the outside to carry little extras like napkins, spoons and salt or pepper packets. My boys like these but they aren't really necessary. Purchased brand-new, insulated lunch bags cost between $5 and $15. If you wait until back-to-school-sales you may find them cheaper. Over the summer they can often be found at yard sales. Insulated lunch bags usually do not come with their own thermos, so you will have to use some you already have or buy them separately.

What can I put in a Healthy sack lunch ?

Amber

i'm going to be starting collage in the fall and i'm planing on bering my sack lunch most of the time but at the same time I what to try to keep it as heathey as possble .. any ideas ?

Answer
Packing a lunch for school and/or work can be a challenge. Often times you donât have access to a microwave or refrigeration. Eating the same thing every day can get old after a short time as well. My suggestions for lunch are listed below. Consider taking an insulated lunch bag to keep some of these things cold until itâs time to eat. You could also freeze your beverage (water, juice, etc) and use it as an ice pack if you donât have a lunch box.

Wraps, salads, and sandwiches are good for the âentrée courseâ of your lunch. Use different deli meats and cheeses every week so you donât tire of the same flavors. Itâs good to make homemade dressings or switch up the condiments on these items as well. Use as many fresh ingredients as possible to increase the nutritional value as well. Another idea would be to cook chicken breasts, fish, and pork tenderloins in large amounts over the weekend and keep the cooked meat in the fridge or freezer as an addition to your sandwiches, wraps, or salads. Itâs a nice change to deli meat. My family also enjoys chicken, tuna, or ham salad sandwiches every so often. And you can never go wrong with peanut butter and jelly!

As the âside dishesâ for your lunch, I would suggest any of the items listed below.
fruit, yogurt, pudding, or jello cups
fresh vegetables with ranch dressing
granola bars
popcorn
trail mix
chips (take salsa or a cheese dip for tortilla chips)
pretzels
100 calorie snack packs (cookies, brownie bites, etc)
special K cracker chips
dry cereal
fresh fruit (like apples/bananas with peanut butter, orange slices, grapes, etc)
tasty cakes (Little Debbie brand)
bologna and cheese cubes
broccoli, macaroni, pasta, or potato salad
crackers (goldfish, animal crackers, cheese or peanut butter filled sandwich crackers)
dried fruit (raisins, craisins, banana/apricot/apple chips)
deviled or pickled eggs
cheese curls or cheese balls
fun sized candy bars
mixed nuts
gummy candy
marshmallows

How much should infant/toddler clothes cost at a yard sale?

lunch bags for toddlers on Lunch Clip Art Images Lunch Stock Photos & Clipart Lunch Pictures
lunch bags for toddlers image

NEWTOME

I'm having my first yard sale soon and I'd like to group the clothes by size and just ask a flat price per item. If I charge $.25 a piece, I won't make much. but $1 a piece is too much. I think, sometimes, people charge a flat price for how ever much you can stuff into a lunch bag.

What do you think? What's a reasonable price per item or bag?

I've got everything from infant sizes (including socks and hats) to 24mos.

Thanks!

Answer
I always make a $.25 table, and put odds and ends on it that aren't in the best shape. For newer name brand outfits I usually put anywhere from $2-4 .....
Coats in good condition you can go up to$5-6 ..let people make offers.
It all depends on what shape the clothing is in ...I will spend more on a nice, newer item ....good luck !

Can anyone give me recipes for a toddler?

Lilian

I have a picky sister. I would like to make her something thats good(and that she would eat) for her and easy for me to make. Please help. (the recipe has to be for lunch time)

Answer
LUNCH

PASTA SALAD

1 bag of tri-color pasta (shaped in wheels or another "fun" shape if possible)
1 C chopped fresh broccoli
1/4 C sliced black olives
1/2 C baby Carrots, julienne
1/2 C zucchini, sliced thin
1/2 red onion, sliced very thin
2 T olive oil
black pepper and lemon juice (low-fat salad dressing if your choose)

Boil pasta al dente. Sauté broccoli, carrots, zucchini in olive oil until crisp yet tender. Drain & rinse pasta. Combine pasta and vegetables in large bowl and add parmesan cheese to lightly coat. Add black pepper and lemon juice if you wish. Serve warm or cold

PINWHEEL PLATTER

Cheese Slices
Veggie and Fruit sticks or slices
Turkey, Chicken Breast or other Meat Slices ** NATURAL ONLY - CHECK FOR PRESERVATIVES**

Lay meat slices on plate, top with cheese slices and roll into a tube.
Cut the "tube" into separate portions.
If appropriate, use colourful toothpicks to hold the "pinwheel" slices together.
Your toddler will have fun eating the portions from the toothpicks
(you may even lay these out if find them inappropriate!) as if on an hors de vours tray! Add sliced veggies and fruits to your pinwheel platter for colour and variety to tempt the toddler palate!

CHICKEN POTATO CHOWDER

1/3 C. diced and cooked boneless breast or ground chicken
1/4 C. cubed and cooked potato
3 T. shredded mild Cheddar or American cheese
1/4 C. milk
2 tsp. butter
Peas, carrots and/or corn

Mix chicken, veggies, potato, milk, and butter in a small saucepan. Simmer over low heat for 10 minutes. Stir in cheese. Serve warm.

CHEESE MELTS

Top a slice of bread, open pita or flour tortilla with the following:
2 tomato slices
Strips of cooked thinly sliced chicken, natural ham, beef or ground turkey sausages, (you may also use tuna fish if your toddler may have fish).
Top off with a slice of cheese (deli style "real" cheese).

Hide some veggies like cooked Broccoli, Carrot Slivers, Onions, Peppers, even Green Beans for example!
Broil in oven or toaster oven until cheese is melted.
Allow to cool prior to serve

When do large women (over) eat?

kids lunch bags uk only on ... Hello Kitty Kids Tote Bag/ Lunch Bag - Random Designs Send Only | eBay
kids lunch bags uk only image

The Merovi

I've been on a date with some larger women. They tend to pick at their food and not consume much. I've seen huge women at work eating salads, cucumbers, cottage cheese in the lunch room. They don't become large or maintain a large size by eating salads, cottage cheese, or picking at their food. When do they eat?

If you think this is sexist, when I see large men eating in social environments or at the work lunch room, they eat hefty portions (and not salads). Thus, large food consumption leads to large men.

Answer
They probably eat in secret. Although my Mother is quite large and doesn't eat much. I should know because we hardly ever had food in the house and I was around her nearly all the time as a young kid. Unless she did something I didn't know about.

She enjoyed her beer, so that could have been it. But even before she began drinking a lot she was a UK size 16 (US 12) which isn't HUGE but it's not slim.

I think that she does genuinely have a crappy metabolic rate because I struggle to be as skinny as a lot of other girls and I have her genes, yet I eat around 1,500 cals a day roughly and I have to count it otherwise I do become overweight. I am a UK 10/12 (US 6/8) which is by all means not fat but most girls would be a bag of bones eating what I eat.

VEGANS -- milk and meat-- Should GOV'T look inside lunches we make?

Goin'

VEGANS may want limit food such as meat, cheese and milk.

Recently, a public school had kids open their homemade bag lunches.

The child was given chicken nuggets and milk.
There are reasons why - parents may not want their kids to eat such foods

President Obama put this peek into lunch bag program into his stimulus
Gov may have the right to design lunches for kids that are in lunch programs BUT
parents who make lunches for their kids should not have gov looking in and feeding our kids "other" things.

DO YOU AGREE?

Should BIG GOV look inside your kids lunch bag? Or give them food they want them to eat?

3) Should gov give kids food - including milk or meat - if they think that the child needs that even if a family is vegans and give their child a meat/milk alternative? ______

4) Do you think government is intruding? ________

NEWS SOURCE:

..These big government programs are undermining our parenting decisions - do you agree?
I will not vote for Obama, he is allowing government to intrude by starting programs that mandate these types of actions.

.

Answer
If my government did this (I would first try all available democratic methods to stop it) it would be reason for me to emigrate to a country that's actually free.

By the way, quite apart from the right a parent has to choose a child's diet as long as the child is not deficient in anything: since when are chicken nuggets considered health food? What's next, taking away healthy sandwiches and replacing them with pizza and French fries?

PS I don't by the way see what is supposed to be wrong with the lunch this child brought anyway.

Where can I buy a small, inexpensive messenger-style bag?

insulated lunch bag at walmart on Ladies fashion lunch bag, Kitchenware | Walmart Canada Online Shopping
insulated lunch bag at walmart image
Q. It need not have several pockets, zippers, and hoopla. Just the bag (big enough to hold a waterbottle, a camera, and my phone), and an adjustable strap. (It's for hiking.) And inexpensive would be nice.

I would rather get suggestions on where to get one, so I don't end up shopping around and finding stuff to buy at every store I visit.

Advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Answer
J - what about something like an insulated nylon lunch bag?
The padding would protect your camera & phone, and keep the bottle and water on the outside, away from the electronic stuff. Most of them come with adjustable straps.
Another possible solution would be to find a plain black nylon purse. I found one at Kmart, made by American Tourister, which I use for my camera, along with a few odds and ends. Don't worry, it doesn't look girly or anything like that.
Third choice might be to look in the camping, sporting goods, or luggage section of a store. I've seen hip-packs that have buckle straps that could be worn over the shoulder.
Best, and least expensive, place to check out would be your local discount store like Kmart, WalMart or similar mart-mart stores. If there is an Army/Navy surplus store near you, they may have the type of bag you want.

Fast Food That Will Keep for 7 hours without Refrigeration?

Dark

I need to get some fast food early in the morning (5am) and put it in a bag until about noon, for lunch. Nothing hot will work, since it'll become soggy, and unfortunately, Subway isn't open that early. Any ideas?
If all else fails, I guess I'll have to bring a homemade sandwich.

Answer
The only restaurants that I know are open at 5am are diners, Dunkin Donuts, and any 24-hour Wendys or McDs that might exist where you are. But you really don't have to be stuck with their stuff, and none of it will still be nice and tasty by the time you eat it. So instead, make stuff at home and bring it.

You can buy insulated lunch bags for cheap - often less than $5 - and put a small ice pack (also cheap) at the bottom, in effect allowing you to bring anything you'd like for lunch. Here's an example of a manly insulated lunch bag, and of an ice pack, so you know what I mean:

http://www.amazon.com/Insulated-Lunch-Cooler-Bag-Black/dp/B000IBH0BS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1361394365&sr=8-1&keywords=man%27s+insulated+lunch+bag

Insulated lunch boxes come bigger and smaller than that, as well as more narrow, so if you need to find one to stick inside something you're carrying, you should be able to do so. You can buy stuff like this at Target, the supermarket, Walmart, etc.

If you want to bring something hot, you can also do that. You can buy an insulated Thermos, and put it in your bag. That way you can have soup, Mac & Cheese, leftovers from dinner, etc.

In this way, you can pack stuff from home, and save money like that - but you can also eat hot or cold foods, your choice, no risk of spoilage.

My boyfriend broke his leg and he will be on crutches until the end of next month, we are planning to see Dear John, but idk exactly when. What should we do for valentines day, it's the middle of winter and he can't walk that much. I was thinking of getting a picnic blanket and basket of food and having a nice lunch at his house and then maybe watching a movie on the couch? I was also going to buy him a flower, kind of as a joke.

Answer
Your boyfriend should be lucky to have a girlfriend like you.. your plans are perfect.. just add up some surprising gifts, some stylish ones like wristwatch, tie bar, titanium ring, leather messenger bag or designer wallet

What kind of school bag should I get if I'm a Senior High School?

Maria

Well I only need to carry my government book home(only when we have homework), a five subject notebook and a single subject(which is in a binder). I want a bag that won't get to heavy for me. And sometimes I go off campus for lunch and I walk to this place. I was thinking of a messenger from Aeropostale, Hollister, or maybe PB teen. What should I do?

Answer
Try getting an over-sized purse. They're really cute and at least you can use it for other things besides school. Don't get a messenger bag, I think a Large purse would fit your needs and still look stylish. Hope i helped :)

I am new to being vegan and need some help. What should i use instead of a lunch box or paper bag? I really want something reuseable but not a lunch box. Its not that i am embarrased to carry a lunchbox i just dont like how they look. At my school we are seated side by side so there is no room for a giant tray thing.Oh and please dont leave answers telling me about your hello kitty lunch box, thanks.

Answer
I'd recommend getting a neoprene lunchbox/bag. I put a link to a basic style, but you can find these almost anywhere now. They are well insulated, so they keep your food cold or warm, they're easy to carry, and they stretch, so you can hold quite a bit in there. And a lot of them even look like purses, so they're super stylish, and they come in MANY styles. The link I left below is a basic guide to the fabric & price. ENJOY :D

What tips have you got (how to act, what to bring, how to be fashionable)
Its not a new school btw

Answer
ah, high school. it's nerve-wrecking, but take it from me (i'm starting junior year in the fall), it's way better than middle school. you have better teachers, better classes, better sports teams, better food, etc. but yes, it's still school. lol!

so here's some advice...

how to act - friendly! smile, help people out, offer up (honest) compliments. join a team or a group.

what to bring - all your basic school supplies of course: pens, pencils, paper, notebooks, book covers, calculator, etc..

electronics: phone and i-pod. great for when you're bored.

cute purse/tote - great for books, pens, makeup, etc.

emergency kit - (keep in locker) get a cute little bag/container, and fill it w/a few extra things, that might come in handy. 2-5 dollars, in case you run out of lunch money, or need to buy a book for english class, or perhaps a water bottle. minty gum/mints for those days when you eat sour cream and onion chips for lunch. 2 or 3 tampons/pads for those days it catches you by surprise. extra makeup in case you forget yours. safety pins, pens, hair ties. anything else that you think you might need. a small perfume and deoderant, hand sanitizer.

pictures and magnets for your locker.

how to be fashionable - be yourself! keep w/the trends, but only the ones you like. add an element of your own, like your fav shoes, or that shirt you made yourself, and there you go!

maybe get a new haircut, it's a good way to start out a new year.

good luck, and relax! everyone tries to change over summer break, but being yourself is the best bet! highschool goes fast, and it really is 4 great years. you'll make new friends, enjoy dances and football games, and learn a little something about yourself, life, and of course history, science, english and all that along the way!
