Answer
You are thinking of Afroman's song "Colt 45." The song is off his 2004 album Afroholic ... the Even Better Times."

Lyrics:

Wait a minute man..
Hey check this out man... Tell it
There was this blind man, right?
Man, shhh..
There was this blind man, right?
He was feeling his way the street with this stick, alright?
Hey, he walked past this fish market you know what I'm saying?
Fish Market... pssh...
He stopped, he took a deep breath...
And he said... *sniff* "wooo... good morning ladies!"
Hahahaha...
You like that shit man?
It was pretty good...
Hey, I got a gang of that shit, man.
I'll tell you what, I'll tell you what...
My hand on the guitar,
You on the drums...
hey, and everyone just crowd around the mike.
And I'll tell you all of these motherfuckin' jokes, here...
Clap your hands... first i'ma gonna start it off like this...
Help me sing it homeboy! Come on...

I said Colt 45 and 2 Zig Zags...
Baby, that's all we need.
We can go to the bar, cap them dawgs;
and smoke that tumble weed.
As the marijuana burn, we can take our turn,
singing them dirty rap songs.
Stop and hit the bong like Cheech and Chong.
Say it'll take us from here to Hong Kong.
So roll, roll, roll my joint.
Pick out the seeds and stems.
Feelin' high as hell, flying through Palmdale.
Skating on Dayton rims.
So roll, roll the 83,
Caddilac Coupe DeVille
If my tapes and my Cds just don't sail, bet my Caddy will.

Well it was just sundown in a small white town, they call it East Side Palmdale.
Well... when the Afroman walked through the white land, houses went up for sale. *hell*
Well I was standing on the corner sellin' rap CDs, when I met a little girl named Jan.
I let her ride in my Caddy, cos i didn't know her daddy was the leader of the Ku Klux Klan.
We fucked on the bed, fucked on the floor, fucked so long i grew a fuckin afro.
Then I fucked to the left, fucked to the right; as she sucked my dick until the shit turned white.
I thought to myself, Sheeba Sheeba, got my ass lookin like a Zebra.
I pulled on my clothes and I was on my way, til her daddy pulled up in the Chevrolet.
So i ran, I jumped out the back window.
But her daddy, he was waiting with a 2 by 4.
Oh... he beat me to the left, he beat me to the right.; the mutherfucker whooped my ass all night.
But, I ain't mad... at her prejudice dad, that's the best DAMN pussy i'd ever had!
Got a bag of weed, and a bottle of wine, I'm gonan fuck that bitch just one more time!

I said Colt 45 and 2 Zig Zags...

Uh.. I met this lady in Hollywood.
She had green hair, but DAMN she looked good!
I took her to my house, cos she was fine.
But she whooped out a dick that was bigger than mine.

I met this lady from Japan,
Never made love with an African.
I fucked her once, I fucked her twice, I ate that pussy like shrimp fried rice.

Don't be amazed at the stories I tell ya. (tell ya)

I met a woman in the heart of Austrailia.
Had a big butt, and big titties too.
So i hopped in her ass like a kangaroo.

See I met this woman, from Hawaiiiii...
Stuck it in her ass, and she said aiiii!
Lips was breakfast, pussy was lunch, and her titties busted open with Hawaiian punch!

Met Colonel Sanders wife in the state of Kentucky.
She said "I'll fry some chicken if you just fuck me!"
I came in her mouth, it was a crisis...
I gave her my secret blend of herbs and spices.

I said Colt 45 and 2 Zig Zags...

Hey wait a minute, check this out...
I met Dolly Parton in Tennessee, her titties were filled with Hennesy.
That country music really drove me crazy.
But I rode that ass, and said "Yes, Ms. Daisy"

Met this lady in Oklahoma, put that pussy in a coma.
Met this lady in Michigan, can't wait til I fuck that bitch again.
Met a real black girl down in South Carolina, fucked her til she turned to a white albino.
Fucked this hooker in Iowa, I fucked her on credit... so I owe her.
Fucked this girl, down in Georgia; came in my mouth, man i thought i'd told ya.

Met this beautiful sexy hoe, jsut ran 'cross the border or Mexico.
Fine young thing said her name's Maria, I wrapped her up like a hot tortilla. I wanna get married but i can't afford it. I know i'm gonna cry when she get deported.

Hey man, hold up...
Have you ever went over to a girl that's hard to fuck, but the pussy just ain't no good.
(say what?)
I mean you're gettin' upset, b/c you can't get her wet, plus you in the wrong neighborhood!
So you try to play it off and eat the pussy.
But it take her so long to come... (say what?)
Then a dude walked in, that's her big boyfriend.
And he asks you.. "where you from?"
So you wipe your mouth, and try to explain... you start talking real fast.
But he already mad b/c you're fuckin' his woman, so he starts beatin' on your ass.
Now your clothes all muddy, your nose all bloody...
Your dick was hard, but now it's soft (what?)
You thought you had a girl to rock your world...
But now you still gotta go jack off.

I said Colt 45 and 2 Zig Zags...
Baby, that's all we need.
We can go to the bar, cap them dawgs;
and smoke that tumble weed.

Environmental friendly ways to pack lunch?

mbtafan

Does anybody know any environmentally friendly ways to pack lunch for school? Currently, I'm using a large plastic bag which I use everyday (a lunch bag that takes up less space in my backpack) and two plastic bags containing pretzels and a sandwich which I dispose of everyday. Any suggestions?
I do have a space contrasiant, though. I don't have much room in my backpack, so colllapsable plastic bags as opposed to containers that take up space are not an option. Also, I do not tend to resuse bags as somehow the peanut butter from my sandwich seems to get all over the bag.

Answer
Get an actual insulated lunch bag that can be cleaned and reused easier than a plastic bag. Also try using plastic containers that can be washed and reused instead of bags. They make sandwhich sized ones among all the other sizes and shapes. You could even get a drink container and fill it up each day from a larger bottle at home instead of carrying cans or bottles to drink every day.

Question about my lunch?

Loverrrr

If I put a sandwich with just ham on it in a ziplock baggie in a brown paper sack in my
locker. Will it still be good by lunch time?

Answer
i wouldnt try it. insulated bags are small and cheap, and if you dont wanna buy an ice pack, put a small bottle of water in the freezer and BAM! cold water and an ice pack in the same container ;)

Pack It insulated lunch bags? Would you buy one?

Christian

There was a commercial just on for this thing called PackIt. It's a lunch cooler that you actually keep in the freezer and then pack your lunch in it. It stays refrigerator cold for up to 10 hours. My son needs a new lunch box for school and it's BOGO free for $19.99 + s/h. It equals out to about $10 per bag which is the same price you would pay for a half decent one at the store. There's no ice packs needed so I'm saving money there too.

I know stuff always sounds better on TV but this actually sounds like a good deal. Opinions?
My son is going into 3rd grade next month. There is no fridge to keep lunches in, they stay in the closet with their coats until lunch time.
I've found really good reviews so far.

Answer
You should do some research online, no doubt someone has bought it and reviewed it.
If I was packing my kids lunch everyday, I would ask the school first if they actually had a fridge. That would be so much more helpful. But if not, go ahead and get it. But ONLY after you've seen reviews about how 'great' it might be. ^_^

what are the best healthy cookbooks specifically for lunch?

wendy!

i am looking for the best cookbooks for a healthy lunch.
no online recipes please.

Answer
I swear by the Brown Bag Lunch Cookbook by Miriam Jacobs. The recipes are adult friendly, and actually quite good. There are creative ideas in here which have inspired me to think of other lunch ideas.

For the kids, I go with The Top 100 Recipes for a Healthy Lunchbox: Easy and Exciting Ideas for Your Child's Lunches by Nicola Graimes. The recipes in this book are interesting and innovative, and most of the recipes are sure to be kid-pleasers.

What do Americans put in their childrens packed lunches? And our school lunches there really as bad?

RachaelLei

Okay so I was watching Jamie Oliver's American Revolution and children who looked about 5/6 were being sent to school with just doughnuts, packets of sweets (candy), crisps (potato chips) and literally nothing else. One girl who was about 5 just had a big bag of skittles or M&M's and nothing else to eat. And then for a drink everybody was just drinking Chocolate milk. In my primary school (kinda the same as elementary school in England for kids 3-11) the school only provided us with water at lunch if we wanted a drink and orange and blackcurrant squash at christmas and even then it was quite water downed squash. Even now schools in the UK are banned from selling sugary drinks and water is free and you can buy juice and the only fizzy drink we sell is appletiser (fizzy 100% apply juice) but even then that contains no sugar.
In England children usually get a Sandwich (Jam,ham or cheese or something like that), a packet of crisps/Chocolate bar (sometimes both), a piece of fruit and a carton of orange juice or squash made from home. I'm 16 and this is what my friends usually eat in there packed lunches.
And then school lunches in high school didn't really get much better it was like chips everyday (in the show) for some kids. My school only serves them on Friday (schools can only sell high calorie foods once a week in the UK) and foods such as pizza have to be homemade. And hot meals are usually something like pasta or chicken the rest of the week and freshly made sandwiches the rest of the week for cold foods and paninis.

Do parents generally send their kids to school with just junk food? I'm generally curious because I'm not sure if they were just picking out the children with the bad lunch's for good TV or children in America generally send their kids to school with that kind of food.
And are school lunches sold in schools really as bad as Jamie Oliver's show makes out as well?

Answer
School lunches in the U.S. are largely heavily refined and processed foods. They are horrible for a person's health, and taste just as bad. They are the cheapest of the cheap.

Everyone packs different things in their child's lunch. A lot of people pack garbage in there also. You must understand, most Americans think a salad with bacon, ranch, cottage cheese, and iceberg lettuce is healthy. We are not a very educated bunch when it comes to nutrition. Another issues for some is that healthy food can cost double what the junk costs. And we have a huge problem with poverty in the U.S. Not to mention the recession, which has altered 98% of our lives.

I try to pack healthy. My son takes things like sandwiches, yogurts, plain pretzels or whole grain crackers, fruit, sometimes he brings a thermos with spaghettios. He drinks milk that he gets at school with his lunch.

Edit- It actually gets worse in high school. My high school had a Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and a nasty Ala Carte menu filled with junk.

Some schools in the U.S. are going all natural and even starting student gardens. I think that's awesome. Too bad the closest school to us that does that is 100 miles away. I am pretty sure they are the only ones in our entire state. :-(

What should I make for lunch?

Chris

I am on a new workout plan and I am sick of spending my money on subway every day for lunch. I was wondering if there is anything quick and easy to make besides sandwiches. I am busy all day every day so I am constantly in a rush and I am staying away from fast food. Most of the time my mother makes my lunch for me because I never have time to do it myself. I really want to make it as quick and easy as possible for her because she has spent so much time for me and I'm sure she would like a change in what she makes so that she isn't making the same thing over and over again.
Thanks in advance.

Answer
I personally prefer a good hot lunch to sandwiches. I would get a good insulated thermos and fill it with warm things like soup, ramen noodles with broccoli florets, spaghetti, or even leftovers from last night's dinner. For 15 easy packed lunch ideas, go here: http://www.webmd.com/food-recipes/features/15-fresh-brown-bag-lunch-ideas Also find two weeks' worth of healthy packed lunch ideas here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8913826/ns/health-childrens_health/t/home-packed-lunches-your-kids-will-eat/

Some other ideas are wraps, pitas, mini pizzas (put pizza sauce and cheese on bagels or sandwich thins), pasta salad, and mini quiches. When I was having to do this, my usual lunch was last night's leftovers. It was easier for me to make a little extra dinner the night before and just go ahead and pack it away for my lunch. Hope those ideas help. Good luck.

Can anyone tell me what brand this lunch bag is?

Hannah!

I was at Marshall's a couple of months ago and I saw this really cute insulated lunch bag. It looked like a purse and it was light blue with pink roses. It was insulated and it came with like 3 different-sized containers. It was so cute and at the time I wasn't sure if I wanted it but now I really REALLY want it. I don't know what it was called and of course Marshall's doesn't have it anymore. Does anyone know what brand it is?

Children's boxed (or bagged) lunches....?

Coco & Boo

Just curious, as the school year is coming near, I am planning on sending my daughter's lunch with her more often and am thinking of different HEALTHY lunches I can make. I don't want to bore her with the same lunch everyday...so, please everyone, tell me what YOU send or plan to send with your child in their lunch boxes *drink included if you send one*!

Answer
Lunchables are NOT all that healthy -- they have lots of sodium etc.

Main dishes:

* Tuna sandwich wrap with light mayonnaise, lettuce and tomatoes
* Egg salad sandwich on whole grain bread
* Peanut butter, cashew, or almond butter with a 100 percent fruit spread on whole grain bread (a healthier PB&J)
* Sliced turkey, lean roast beef, or chicken from the deli--or left over from last night's dinner--with light mayonnaise, mustard, and a slice of cheese

My kids have insulated lunchboxes and I have 8 oz metal insulated containers in which I send between late fall and early spring:

soups and stews
leftover casseroles
a treat of hot cocoa or cider

Treats:

a couple of Hershey`s kisses
a fun size candy bar
a sweet granola bar
a small handful of chocolate or butterscotch chips
a bar or brownie or cookie

Drinks:

Usually water. They can buy milk or chocolate milk at school.

Sides:

* Send a salad in a small plastic container. Keep the dressing on the side in a separate smaller container. (I do this for a main dish for my 12 year old daughter adding meat and cheese cubes to make it a chef salad -- the boys do not like it as well).
* Cheese sticks go well with sandwiches and are a good source of calcium.
* Whole grain snack crackers add a nice crunch and lots of healthy fiber.
* Make a fruit salad with grapes, melons chunks, and blueberries.
* Dried fruit, like raisins, dried cranberries or banana chips
* Nuts like almonds, cashews, or walnuts
* Pack a cold pasta salad or potato salad.
* Baby carrots or celery sticks or cucumber strips with a small container of vegetable dip
* Crunchy raw green beans with a small container of ranch or french onion dip
* Flavored yogurt -- I get a large container of vanilla organic yogurt and mix in finely chopped fruit and put about 1/4-1/2 cup in a small plastic container -- much less expensive and more fruity than the individual containers.

What is a good/healthy lunch for an athletic high school boy?

Pat M

He is determined to be a professional ballplayer (yes, I know the stat's of that happening) what can I do to help him nutritionally?

Current Lunch:

Turkey/Roast Beef/ or Peanut Butter Jelly Sandwich on wheat bread
Grapes or Apples (clementines when in season)
Chips or crackers
Cookies
cheese sticks

Obviously, I would love to cut out the chips and perhaps cookies could be replaced with something healhier.... would love suggestions!

Thanks!

Answer
Here is fure tips for eat a quick and healthy lunch for school boy, please see:
Stock up on lunch possibilities when you shop for groceries. Think simple -- a loaf of whole wheat bread and a jar of peanut butter; a package of corn tortillas, a can of black beans, and some fresh tomatoes; frozen veggie burgers, whole grain hamburger buns, and a jar of roasted sweet peppers. Throw together a few of your favorite ingredients, and see what happens!
On days when you buy a sandwich, go to a place that'll make one to order. Ask for turkey or roast beef, extra tomatoes and onions, and only a smidge of mayonnaise. Better yet, opt for mustard. Don't get tuna if it's mixed with lots of mayo. By skipping that eggy, oily spread, you'll cut back the fat and cholesterol significantly.
Prepare lunch items the night before right after dinner. This saves on clean-up time. Store food properly. In the morning pack foods in the lunch box.
Don't forget food safety. If refrigeration is not available, use insulated lunch boxes or bags with frozen ice or gel packs.

Healthy kids lunches!?

kimberly M

I need healthy lunch box ideas for my 11 year old daughter. I have printed a bunch of ideas for wraps but those too will get boring over time. I would greatly appreciate any ideas!

Answer
well, my family is very into health and I run track, so I have been brown bagging it since kindergarten (although last year I started buying lunch which was awful)
My typical lunch is:
-organic multigrain roll with hummus, romaine lettuce, and tomato (carbohydrate, protein, vegetable)
-some sort of fruit: either apple, plum, peach, etc (whatever is in season)
-trailmix (just through together peanuts, raisins, dried fruit, almonds, or whatever: more protein)
-skim milk from the cafeteria (dairy/calcium)
I have been a vegetarian since the age of 4 (almost 10 years now) so no coldcuts for me, but turkey, chicken, tuna, or other meats can be a good source of protein. Be careful, because some cold cuts are full of fat and aren't good for you. You can also have cheese or pb+j (from healthfood section, brands like skippy or peter pan have hydrogenated vegetable oil, and a lot of jellies or jams are loaded with waaaaaaaay too much sugar)
try to stay away from or limit packaged foods or foods high in fat, sugar, or salt.
Also, have her keep a water bottle with her throughout the day, especially when it is hot. It doesn't take anything major to get you dehydrated.

there are lots of choices out there for a healthy lunch that will keep your energy up for the day, you just have to look to find them.

What was your childhood lunch box- bag or metal? What was your favorite made-from home...?

...lunch? Do you still have the Box?
I can recall having two metal lunch boxes when I was a child with television characters on it, yet I only recall only one of the TV shows. It was "Bonanza", but I don't remember ever watching the TV show-so why did I get the lunch box?

My regular lunch was Peanut Butter & Jelly made with Wonder Bread bread--you know the one that had 12 vitamins baked into every slice to build strong bones! Along with the PJ sandwich, my mom would include a baggie of potato chips & some chocolate milk in the supplied Bonanza thermos bottle. Somewhere, I still have that Bonanza lunch box, but the thermos is no where to be found.

What was your lunch box- what TV show did it depict? What was your favorite school lunch that your parent made for you. Did you buy lunch at school? what was your favorite meal at school? Mine was at Thanksgiving when they made a real Turkey feast.

Well its time to go back to school-what are you serving up your child for lunch and will it be in a brown bag/metal box?

Answer
...was literally a box. One of those flat type cartons that four six-packs of soda comes in.

My grandmother would pick me up after school and she would have made me a bologna and Miracle Whip sandwich (on Home Pride wheat bread), paired with a snack sized bag of Frito-Lay Fritos, a few bunches of green grapes, and a small bottle of Coke. For dessert, I had Snack-Pack chocolate pudding. It was the "bestest" lunch ever, not only because it had all of my favorite foods, but because my grandmother would make it for me, bring it to me, and let me eat it in the car on the way home. It was cool. 8)

When I got into junior high and high school, I bought my lunches. My favorite lunch was the taco salad. It had REAL lettuce, REAL tomatoes, REAL beans, REAL salsa. It was one of the few things on the menu that wasn't made of TupperFood (plastic-y, tasteless, textureless, worthless food like the pizza or the Salisbury steak - bleah) and was reasonably priced. Plus, they had to make it fresh (while-you-wait), so I knew that it hadn't been sitting out in the kitchen heat for 2 hours.

I don't have kids, but my nephews are not in the "lunch box" crowd. They take their lunches in brown sacks (their mother is all about reduce, reuse, recycle), and it's usually a turkey sandwich, carrots, a few slices of cheese, and milk or a bottle of water.

How do you bring lunch in high school?

Matt L

I'm a freshman in ontario, canada. school starts tomorrow. i've only been attending a private school my whole life but i'm going to a public high school so i don't know what the differences are. for lunch, up until now, EVERYONE carried this lunch bag at my privaet school:
http://goshopping.thestar.com/shop/product--catId_1002903__locale_en__catCrumbIds_1002463-1002903__productId_8209656.html

which their parents packed.. now i'm going to a public high school so i have no idea how the other kids pack.

so MY QUESTION: how do kids pack their lunches in canadian PUBLIC high schools? like in a plastic bag, a brown paper bag, or just the insulated bags i showed you?? or do most kids just buy their lunches from the school cafeteria? how do kids eat on the first day of high school??
so would it be okay to bring a lunch bag like above or would people think i'm a little kid or something?

Answer
Well, at my school, most kids buy...but of the few that do pack (that I've noticed), they use plastic bags and just throw them away when done.

just moved to geneva, switzerland. need to find insulated lunch bag for 4 yr old kid, for school. Help!

would this be a good-sized bag for high school?

theaB.

alrighty so i'm starting high school in a few months. this past year i've carried a tote bag as a backpack and although it was much better than a backpack, i found it hard to manage. i had to pack my lunch this past year and most days the tote wasn't big enough for carrying my lunch and my books. now that i'm going to be a freshman, though, i can carry smaller lunches (at my school we were required to bring snacks as well, all adding up to a large lunch bag) or maybe not even lunch at all, considering my high school has a cafeteria. i'll also have less subjects per term, so i've been looking at different styles of tote bags recently to see which would be the better "upgrade" from the one i had this year. abercrombie kids has just come out with their fall collection and a few new tote bags, and one caught my eye - http://www.abercrombiekids.ca/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=11307&catalogId=10851&productId=528819&langId=-1&categoryId=12148&parentCategoryId=12103&colorSequence=01

i was wondering if this would make a good choice - has anyone seen this bag in person and can tell me how big it is, or can anyone list the pros and cons of messenger bags? i feel like i could distribute the weight more easily across my body with the long strap, but i'm still not sure. yes i know it's expensive and yes i know it's abercrombie, frowned upon by some 'non-conformists' but what matters to me is that i like the bag, i just want to know if it's conventional or not. i would get it in navy, white gets too dirty too easily.

Answer
Ill be a sophmore. and i think tit's a good idea, but depending on your school the shoulder thing could be an inconvience, i just use an oversised bag and it works great. but ig you like the tote bag then go with that. i think i changed bags several times my fresheman year. your just going to have to try it out and if you decide you dont like it try a different kind.

Where can I find a tote bag for school?

Luckucharm

Where can I find a big tote that can hold books and other requirements for school? Please no website, just stores that i can visit. Please answer. Thank you!:)

Answer
Geez, way to leave this broad 'n' wide open :P

I mean, the tote is just about one of the most common types of bag, especially since a lot of places make promotional totes for not just stores, but also art venues, museums, etc. So you should really add more details if you want a more specific answer.

Generally though, all totes should be able to hold school stuff, unless you have absolutely looooads. That's because like the name implies, totes are meant to carry (or 'tote') stuff around. They are not typically a wallet-keys-and-phone kind of bag - if they are, they are usually specifically labelled as such with a qualifier, like 'mini tote' or 'tiny tote' etc. They are typically big enough for at least A4 size - that's the size of your basic sheet of printer or copier paper - and you should fully expect to be able to fit at least a binder and a couple of books around an inch thick, plus a small pencil case (about half a dozen pens), a small wallet and phone, or a water bottle (the small knd though).

However, if you have more than that, it's not a good idea to carry it around on one shoulder all day. Really; I'm not being a nerd - it seriously IS unhealthy, and while I would say that a tote is usually much better looking (nicer backpacks are usually expensive, stupidly hard to find, and sometimes both), the legacy that carrying too much weight unevenly is going to leave behind is not worth the better looks. Unfortunately, schools are doing very little to educate students (and for younger kids, parents) about this issue - heck, they even compound the problem by making unreasonable demands like asking for a binder for each topic! But that doesn't mean you have to put up with that misinformation and not do the best for yourself.

So try to reduce the weight as much as possible: only pack what you need for that day, leaving all other notes and books at home or in your locker (it takes a bit of planning, but on the plus side it only takes a few weeks to make it second nature); make notes on loose leaf paper and take them to school in a folder, leaving the binder at home or in the locker. Make better use of your locker: keep all your extras there (eg lunch, makeup bag, gym gear/spare clothes, rain gear) since you can just grab them as they are needed (just keep a lip product and maybe a small mirror with you, both of which should fit in with your pens or your wallet), and try to plan as many locker runs as possible during the day, so you only have to carry the books for one subject or period if possible. If any of your classrooms has seating in pairs, try to see if the other person is amenable to sharing book-carrying duties, so you don't both have to haul the book with you every time.

good luck!

how do you pack your preschooler's lunch box?

Jennifer G

do you use an ice pack everyday, no matter what is packed in?
for example, if you're packing turkey and cheese sandwich, would you put an ice pack in? or no?

please elaborate on your answer. I'm a first time mom, and has no idea how to pack a lunch bag...

thanks

Answer
You can get a small insulated lunch box.
This will help keep things cool till lunch time.
It really is up to you if you put an ice pack in there.Sometimes I do and sometimes I forget and the lunch is still fine anyway.
The children eat fairly early and food is still ok at the time it is to be eaten.
Sometimes I will put the cool juice box on top to keep things cool too.

Actual time for eating lunch at most schools only lasts for 15 to 20 minutes and is filled with distractions. Make sure the lunch foods you pack are easy to eat, packed in easily opened packages, and don't require peeling or special tools.
Small children may not eat very much at one sitting. Think about packing appetizers instead of a large sandwich and whole banana. You can also include more choices if the quantity of each is smaller. Fill a mini muffin tin with small amounts of foods, wrap with foil, and pack into the lunch box.
Small foods are not only easier for children to handle, but they are more fun to eat. Cut sandwiches into smaller pieces, use tiny tortillas for wraps and small sandwich buns, serve baby carrots and peel and cut fruit into smaller pieces to interest your child in the foods you pack.
Think about different types of bread for sandwiches and dippers. Try crackers, mini waffles, rice cakes, mini croissants, pita bread, mini muffins, small bagels, tortillas, focaccia, raisin or cinnamon bread.
If your child wants the same thing day after day, go ahead and pack it, as long as the overall meal is nutritious and you are sure your child eats it. Kids don't like a lot of change in what they eat. Did you know that it takes 10 to 12 introductions to a new food before a child is usually willing to even taste it?
Take some time to look at the prepackaged lunches in your grocer's refrigerated section. These appeal to kids, but aren't very nutritious. You can pack the same types of snack foods, but use healthier choices for more kid appeal.
Salsa, hummus, bean dips, or fruit dips with baked chips and veggies or fruit are good lunchbox choices, since these foods contain more vitamins and fiber.
Make sure to think about food safety. Freeze juice boxes or small gel packs and place in the bag. The juice will keep other foods cool and will thaw to just the right temperature and consistency by lunchtime. Use an insulated thermos for hot foods like soups and stews, and cold salads too. For best results, rinse out a thermos with very hot water to heat it before adding hot soups. Rinse it out with ice water to chill the thermos before adding cold soups.
If you make your own snack mixes, you can include healthy additions like dried fruits, unsalted nuts, pretzels, and baked crackers. Kids love to munch on something crunchy and sweet or savory.
Instead of making sandwiches, consider packing individual sandwich ingredients to let your child make their own sandwich at lunch, or eat the ingredients separately. Many children don't like to eat more than one food at a time, since their sense of taste is very intense.
Cereal bars can pack a lot of nutrition into a food kids love to eat. Include raisins, currants, or other dried fruits in the recipe for additional flavor, color and nutrition.
Make sure to include something fun - a sticker, cookies wrapped in plastic wrap with a ribbon tie, sandwiches cut into playful shapes, or meats and cheeses or fruits threaded on a caramel apple stick (which is safer than a traditional kabob stick). there go hope this helped u alot:D

what did you pack for lunch today (need lunch/grocery ideas)?

Chelsea

Hello, Im new to 'brown-bagging'. im working on a temp project and was wondering if you could give me some ideas on a great packed lunch?

thanks in advance..
10points to best answer...

Answer
My lunch is...a sandwich, chips, fruit, and a "treat" (almonds*, cashews*, small candy bar, etcetera)

I normally buy whatever is on sale from the grocery deli...ham, turkey, and/or roast beef to make sandwiches (with a slice of cheese and mayo). Then pick up buns/bread, chips, fruits, things to snack on.

*I buy raw almonds/cashews (in the baking aisle) and then roast them at 350º for 20-25 minutes.

Do PACK IT lunch bags really work?

Audrey Mon

I'm a mom of 3 and my kids are going to start a new school year. I want to find them a lunch bag that keeps cold and fresh. I was thinking about getting each of them a pack it lunch bag, but I'm not sure until i know if it works.

Answer
I've seen the ads and I have not really paid attention to them. If there is a30 day money back guarantee, or something like that, you could get one, try it and see if you think it's worth getting two more. When I was in high school, in the early 90s, reusable and insulated lunch bags were just coming out. When my husband was in seminary, about five years ago, I found a large one which I used for work. (It was on the community free table. I spent my days, for about three months, babysitting for another family and working in the office of a local church. I packed breakfast and lunch and if I donated plasma after work, a light snack and ate dinner at home.) We used it for my now three-year-old's food when she was a baby. We have a rectangle one that my pastor husband got as a Christmas appreciation gift from a local funeral home. (It also came with a six pack of Coke.) We use that one now for our seven-month's food. (We use the gel packs that came with the formula solicitations at the hospital when my daughter was born. They're a good size and last awhile.)

When I saw the commercial pr the Pack It, I thought about how we had metal, and plastic lunch boxes and Thermoses and paper bags for lunches and we survived just fine. Yet, there might be something to the Pack It. I just haven't decided if it's worth $20. (I"ve even seen mini-coolers during back to school season, but never saw them marked down to get one for personal use.)

School lunches...?

I think school lunches should contain a fruit, dairy, fiber, some sort of veggie, & protein maybe. Can you name 5 different things from each group that would be nice to have for a kid's lunch? Anything else like sandwiches or snacks like pudding or jello would be nice too lol. Thank you guys & gals!
I want ideas to pack lunches at home. This has nothing to do with school lunches!

Answer
Grains: crackers, bread (on sandwiches), tortillas (instead of bread, make roll ups with meat, etc.)

Protein: hard boiled egg (I peel it and put it in a ziploc bag), lunch meat, peanut butter (on sandwiches, celery slices, or on tortillas), nuts

Fruit/veggies: baby carrots, apple slices, grapes, celery, peaches, apple sauce, orange slices

Dairy: string cheese, yogurt (tube kinds are best for the lunchbox - keep them in the freezer and it will thaw by lunchtime), cream cheese (on tortillas or crackers, or in celery), ranch dressing (to dip carrots in), cheese (on sandwiches, etc.)

It's good to have an ice pack in the lunch box for items that need to be refrigerated (lunch meat, eggs, yogurt, cheese, anything with mayonnaise etc.) so that you don't risk your child getting sick.

lunch ideas for college?

Char Webb

at college i get so bored, i bring the sam old lunches: sandwiches, crisps, a drink, and a chocolate bar. Anyone got any ideas of stuff i could bring to eat at college?

Answer
I would carefully consider your containers and get some insulated pieces. They will help you expand your food choices to keep hot and cold foods safe and yummy. Get double the amount you would carry so that you can have one set in use, and keep one set at home getting cleaned and chilled. Make sure everything is easy to clean and get a baby bottle brush and some white vinegar to help you keep everything fresh. To keep things clean run a sink of hot soapy water, add 2 cups of white vinegar and let your items soak. Then scrub them clean, rinse, and let them air dry.

You can start with 4-6 reusable drink bottles. 2-3 drinks packed per day will keep you away from the vending machines and coffee shops, saving money and allow you to choose healthier options. Add to that 2 insulated soup thermos, and some reusable disposable plastic containers with lids, some zipper bags, and 2 flexible, reusable ice packs...and 2 insulated lunch totes that fit half your gear in each. You can also get a stash of handi-wipes. These are a washable/reusable very sturdy paper towels, meant for household cleaning, but they work great for this, pack damp in a zipper bag to wipe your face. They can be discarded after a few uses. And tuck in a small bottle of hand sanitizer, and some washable plastic silverware.

With better containers you can make use of leftovers, take hot soup or pasta, etc, even a slice of meatloaf or a hunk of roast and mashed potatoes.

As for typical lunch food choices, you can pack fresh veggies...if you like to dip, slice your peppers, scallions, celery, carrots, in sticks and stick them straight up in a container (cut your food to fit that container) that has dip or hummus in the bottom...pull each piece out to find it pre dipped.

If you prefer a salad you eat with a fork, pack some chunked up salad veggies, some chilled pasta, some bottled salad dressing (or herbs and olive oil). Then when you sit down to eat, add a packet of tuna, chicken, a string cheese, or pepperoni, and toss it all together...packing your salad in an oversized container will allow you to add and stir easily.

You could swap out the pasta in the above recipe for chilled barley, rice, lentils, potatoes...or swap out the dressing for chilled marinara sauce.

Instead of chips/crisps you can try pita chips, crackers. They also make veggie poofs that are similar to cheetos. I wonder if you are from UK do you have these or know what I mean. You can also pack plain tortilla chips (instead of the spray painted flavored kind) and carry your own fresh bean dip or salsa. These are healthier and you get better flavor and variety.

For different sandwich options, switch our your bread for bagel, pita, tortilla, flatbread, or skip the bread altogether and pack all your sandwich fillings as a salad.

For drink options, you can buy juice box type containers of lots of things: milk, yoo-hoo chocolate drink, or buy drinkable yogurt or smoothies. You can also use your reusable containers to prepare yourself an iced tea or coffee, a lemonade, or powdered drink.

For dessert...fresh fruits! Grapes, apples, oranges, bananas, pear, peach can all be packed whole...or you can cut and bowl up some berries, melon, kiwi, papaya, mango, pineapple, mandarin oranges.

Other dessert...you can use purchased snack cakes, homemade cookies, make cheesecake cups, make caramel popcorn, make marshmallow treats with cereal, make a chocolate ganache and stuff to dip in it.

You can also freeze certain things. You can freeze pudding cups, yogurt cups, jello cups, and applesauce cups. Pack them frozen, they are cold and refreshing when you sit down to eat. They will help keep everything else cold. You can freeze drink bottles if they aren't all the way full.

How to keep my lunch fresh during the day?

Amy

So I like to bring healthy lunches from home because the choices at my school are just...yeah...But most of the time my the lunches I try to bring like wraps and salads, end up squished or bad and gross looking by the time I go to eat them. The only thing that seems to hold up for my is Special K and PB&J and I'm really getting sick of those. So do you have any ideas on how to keep my lunches from spoiling?

P.S. Does anyone know of a thermos that actually works?

Answer
go to any department store in the kitchen gadget area and look for thermos containers.
You can find wide mouth ones that work for any hot or cold foods.
you can also get insulated bags to carry your lunch in.
Construction workers have been carrying lunch for many many years using these same things.
With a cold food thermos, store it in the freezer with the lid off.
In the morning, put your cold pasta or fruit salad in there and it will be icy cold yet at lunch time.
IN one of these you can take any of the following;
tuna or chicken salad for sandwiches
any pasta salad
any fruit salad
beverage
In a Thermos designed for how foods, you simply pour boiling water into the thermos to heat it while you are heating the food. then dump the water, put the hot food in and close. It will stay hot all day.
You can take
soups
stews
hot dishes
sliced meats and gravy
spaghetti and meatballs
what ever interesting left overs you had from last nights supper.

where can i buy a pretty camera bag (not online)?

lalala

preferably leather ones. ones that dont look like black lunch pails from fry's. -_-

Answer
Hey, try Wolf Camera. Most malls around my house have camera stores. You might not have a wolf camera in your area. If you don't have a camera shop. You might try a store that sells leather goods and handbags. I have a pelican 1300 case for my Canon Rebel T1i EOS but it is a hard case with foam inside. I do have a cool little leather case for my Canon Power Shot A550. I got it at Walmart. Might try Target as well.

Are there any alternatives to having a screw top bottle.?

WWE Foreve

I recently went to my school and they said that screw top bottles are not allowed. Which most of thermos and bottles have screw tops. Does anyone have any ideas of what I should use instead of screw top bottles. I really like to keep foods hot and drinks cold. I would like it if someone could find bottles or thermoses without screw tops. I would really appreciate that!
Thanks!

Answer
That limits the options quite a bit. Some models I can suggest are:

For FOOD:

Option 1: Zojirushi type thermos bento lunch jars.

http://www.zappos.com/zojirushi-classic-bento-vacuum-lunch-jar-ultra-black?channel=126&si7757425=&mr:referralID=NA&mr:trackingCode=138A9AB8-71EE-DF11-8F9A-001B2163195C

The top 2 inner containers have plastic lids but the bottom one has a screw lid. The screw lid is the smallest container so you may be able to do without.

-- edit: I just realised the middle, large one is also a screw top (only a quarter turn). But you can still look through their range to find a non-screw top combination. --end edit

It does keep food warm/hot but you need to prep them first (putting very hot water in, then removing them before putting your foods that you want to keep hot).

The outer container is double-walled. All these items come in an insulated bag with eating implements (which vary depending on the model you buy). There are different configurations, colors and sizes that you can choose from.

I have two of these (similar to those in the above website but with gold-colored bags) and they do keep food reasonably warm/hot. Zojirushi often change the color scheme and bag designs.

Other versions (targeted at girls/women):
http://www.casa.com/p/zojirushi-mini-bento-stainless-lunch-jar-white-273582

Option 2: Heated thermos (Fuloon thermos lunch jar)

This has a power supply to warm your food at work/school (if you have access to power). I do not have this, so cannot give you an evaluation. It does look very useful though.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fuloon-Stainless-Thermal-Layers-Design/dp/B007PN2Z9E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1342339770&sr=8-1

For WATER/DRINKS (non-fizzy):

If you only want them cold, you can get Tupperware tumblers called Handoliers or Thirstbreak Tumblers with plastic lids like this:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dgarden&field-keywords=handolier

http://www.amazon.com/Set-Tupperware-Tumblers-Seals-Colors/dp/B004FDDVZE/ref=sr_1_23?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1342341109&sr=1-23&keywords=tumblers++tupperware

You really need insulation through the use of an insulation bag: keeps the cold and condensation droplets in.

You can also add reuseable ice to your tumbler; these do not dilute your drink and is ... reuseable.

Other accessories: ice pucks.

Can you list all of the restaurants on the Monarch of the Seas and the dress code for them?

Julia

I'm really confused right now about how many of what to pack on my Royal Carribean Cruise. Can someone list the restaruants on the Monarch of the Seas and the way you have to dress in order to eat there? Thanks!!

Answer
You can look at the features of the Monarch, including its dining facilities, on this web link: http://www.royalcaribbean.com/findacruise/ships/class/ship/home.do;jsessionid=0000tTeXhUmUcyVG6Vgnvh1ZgoM:12hbioan0?br=R&shipClassCode=SS&shipCode=MN

The Monarch, as one of Royal Caribbean's older ships, does not have the alternative specialty restaurants that many of the newer ships have. The two eating places are the Windjammer Cafe (the same as on all RC ships) which is a casual dining place open for breakfast, lunch and dinner (and snacks sometimes too). You can wear casual clothes there all of the time; just wear a cover if you are in swim wear and also wear shoes of some type. Then the main dining rooms for all meals are the Claude's and Vincent's dining rooms on decks 3 and 4. You will be assigned to a table in one of those rooms. The dress there is sports/resort casual all of the time. I'll explain that below.

The dress on ship is casual all day until 6:00PM, so take:
-swim wear (at least 2),
-shorts, tank tops and "T's"
-sandals, beach shoes,
-a cap or big hat for the sun,
-sneakers and clothes to workout in if you like to use the gym,
-good walking shoes,

After 6:00 PM they request that you wear "sports or resort casual" attire. That's attire that you would expect a person to wear in a business office, (like a bank employee), for men a shirt with a collar, slacks, etc., and for women a dress, pants or skirt, blouse, etc. You can still wear shorts and swim wear in the pools and spas after 6:00 PM but not in public areas like dining rooms and restaurants, show rooms, bars, casino, etc. Don't over pack , take clothes that you can mix and match tops and bottoms and plan to wear each piece twice. If you are going to the Caribbean or Mexico you will likely be in shorts and/or swim wear most of every day so evening clothes don't usually get much wear.

Your cruise will have a formal night or two when you can wear your best stuff and get pictures taken, and maybe meet the shipâs Captain. The formal nights are REQUESTED not required attire. You will not be denied entry to the main dining room if you decide not to dress up, as long as you are at least sports casual. But most people do dress up. A gown or party dress for women and a suit or tux for men. Some people dress up both formal nights, some don't. We always take the formal stuff off after dinner and a photo or two and go back to casual stuff.

- Its best to pack using soft-sided luggage because with space limited in your cabin it fits under the beds better if its not hard sided luggage.

- Pack using the vacuum clothing bags (about $20 for 3 at Target) so that you can get more in your bag AND so that if the TSA at the airport opens your bag they can see what's inside without rummaging through your things.

-Take a small carry-on bag for the last night of the cruise. On the last evening you will be required to put your luggage outside your cabin by about 2:00 AM so that they can start taking it down to the lower deck for offloading the next morning. So you will need a small bag for your toiletries and your clothes that you sleep in.

-If you plan to get into the pools or hot tub as soon as you get on ship (they will be open), bring those clothes in your carry on bag; you other luggage may not get to your cabin until much later in the afternoon.

A large thermos of whatever you like to drink, Bring a sandwich, keep the bread and filling in separate zip lock bags to keep them from getting soggy. There are good insulated containers that will keep a serving of soup or pasta hot all day. Just use low fat cold cuts such as turkey, ham, or other low fat cuts(check labels they vary widely) Premix tuna and keep it in an insulated container. You can eat almost anything you'd have at home, it's the packaging that helps.

For snacks, take fruit, canned fruit, yogurt, pretzels, baked corn chips with low fat salsa or bean dip, veggies, or any other healthy snack. Just don't over do it.

They sell good insulated reusable bags at supermarkets, they hold a lot and fit well behind the seats in that E450 your riding in.

does this sound like a healthy lunch?

.

I work 12 hour shifts at my new job and get four breaks.

Breakfast: Cereal with raisins and milk, yogurt with pineapple chunks
15: Carrot sticks and peanut butter
Lunch: Bagel with vegetable cream cheese and cucumber, salad
15: Cheese and triscuits

Does it seem like I'm eating too much? Nobody else seems to eat as much as me. Also my lunchbag isn't large enough so I've been using a tote.. What are other bag options? And is this a healthy lunch?

Answer
Yes it is sounds like a good lunch with proteins and vitamins.

Help! Lice outbreak in childrens school.....?

Q. Ok, this is kind of embarrassing, but my kids' school has had a terrible outbreak of head lice for 2 months. I have spent literally hundreds of dollars on lice treatments for their hair as well as our home yet can't seem to get rid of it completely. It seems like every other week we are finding more nits. Any tips on a good lice treatment. Maybe something other than the over the counter stuff. Maybe some home remedies or something. We are very clean people but apparently others at their school are not! Someone please help me! I am at wits ends!

Answer
First of all, there's nothing to be embarrassed about. People associate lice with being dirty, but the fact is, head lice love clean hair..it's easier to move through. There aren't many parents out there who won't experience this problem at least once in their children's school years.

It's really important that after the lice treatment, you make sure you comb out every nit. This could take hours, especially if your child is a girl with long, thick hair. I had to cut my daughter's hair to her shoulders to make it easier to remove them. Wash everything in hot water...pillow cases, blankets, towels, hats, and soak all your hairbrushes in straight alcohol. Large things, or things that you cannot wash in the washer, tie up tightly in a garbage bag, and leave there for 2 weeks, minimum. They will die on their own.

My pediatrician told me that lice hate hair spray, so I would wash her hair, dry it and spray it like a maniac (At that point, I was a little fanatical).

Then the last step...call the dept. of health on your child's school. My daughter got lice 3 times, because the school was checking the head's of her classmates, but not children in other classes. This was a serious problem since periods such as lunch and PE were done together. The Board of Health will come in and check the head of EVERY child in the school. Make a stink, but the problem won't come to an end until the school year is over if you don't.

wiggles childrens party- need decorating help?

Wiggles birthday party- need some ideas?
Hi,
I am 100% commited to having a wiggles party. My kids love them., My little one is turning two and it is the only show that he loves. Here is the hard part. The party supply stuff is discontinued and i can buy bits and pieces on ebay but it gets very pricey.
I have alredady bought yellow, red, blue, and purple (the wiggles colors) tablecloths and dinnerware and cutlery. i figure I will mix it all up. I will do the same with balloons and i have a couple of wiggles balloons.
I have their music but besides that i have nothing to make the wiggles be seen. I dont know what else to do. I was thinking of priniting out their pics but then do what with it?
Any cool party ideas out here?? Please help!!
if you dont know the wiggles.. this will help http://www.thewiggles.com.au/ca/fanclub/

Answer
Not to worry...here's some ideas to incorporate the theme for the wee ones: Hang plenty of streamers and balloons. Balloons should be out of reach from young children. Use colored poster board to make large music notes and hang them from the ceiling and walls. Cover and set your party table.

Fashion a Henry the octopus centerpiece with a balloon and poster board.
Cut an eight legged star shape from the poster board. Make a small hole
in the middle. Tie a knot in your balloon and place it through the hole, then tape it to the board. Before you do this use a permanent marker to make a face on the balloon. Top with a "boater" hat similar to Henry's
(you can find this at a party, or costume shop).

Upon arrival, give each child a colored shirt and/or matching cap so they can be their favorite Wiggles Character - purple red yellow or blue. Painter caps can be purchased at the hardware store for around $1.00 - use fabric paint and a shaped paint sponge (craft store) to decorate the caps before the party. Or you can add googlie eyes, etc...pirate's hat with a feather, etc. This will be their souvenir.

WIGGLES BIRTHDAY PARTY GAMES & ACTIVITIES

Music Time
Use paper towel tubes, paper plates or plastic eggs to make instruments. Decorate with markers, stickers and preschool-friendly decorations. When the instruments are complete, play music and let the children play along.

Pin the tail on Wags or Dorothy
Just like Pin the Tail on the Donkey. Enlist an artistic teen to make a simple Wags the dog or Dorothy. Use construction paper and double stick tape on the tails. Don't forget to write names on each tail.

Find Feathersword's Treasure
Before the party hide gold plastic coins and toys for the children to find.

Jeff's Sleepy Time Tag
Play just like freeze tag but instead of freezing when tagged, the children will fall the children "asleep" until a friend wakes them up!

Dance Time
Provide pieces of colored streamer or ribbons to each child.
Put on a Wiggles CD and let the children dance and move!

Let's Feed Wags
Before the party, decorate a cardboard box to look like "Wags" the dog. Make one large brown circle and two simple floppy ears and a face.
Keep the top of the box open, or close it and cut a hole. Make or purchase four bean bags. You can make your own with small socks and dry beans.
Fill the socks with beans and tie a knot to secure with a rubber band.
Mark an "X" on the floor with tape. Place your "Wags" box a reasonable distance away from the "X" the children will take turns attempting to toss the beans bags into the top of the box.
All children get a small prize at the end of their turn.

EXTRA ACTIVITIES: Print out coloring pages from their website....provide bubbles for blowing. End the party with a story time to settle them down before going home.

Rainbow Punch
Make a rainbow in a cup!
Use ice cube trays to freeze several Kool-Aid or juice flavors in bright colors; red, purple, orange, yellow, green. To serve, place all of the cubes in a bowl and let the children fill their cups with the colored cubes. Pour a clear or light colored soda in the cup. (Put tops on cups so kids won't swallow cubes).

Anthony's Sandwich
Build your own "Anthony Sandwich" for lunch and don't forget the fruit. Provide a variety of sandwich makings and let the children create their own!

THE WIGGLES PARTY FAVORS
Say "Thanks for coming" with home-made party crackers!
Fill TP tubes with Wiggles party favors such as, mini-instruments, bubbles, stickers and/or fruit snacks add a bit of confetti.
Wrap the tube with the primary colored wrapping paper and tie the ends with ribbon. Your party guests will have an exciting surprise when they arrive home to open their gift!

How do you bring lunch in high school?

Matt L

Do I have to carry around my backpack in high school?
***please read until the end***
i'm going into grade 9 tomorrow, do I have to carry around my backpack from class to class in ontario, canada, or do i get to go to my locker every period to get the things i need for the next class?

and should i bring notebooks AND binders the first day?

and also, How do you bring lunch in high school?
I'm a freshman in ontario, canada. school starts tomorrow. i've only been attending a private school my whole life but i'm going to a public high school so i don't know what the differences are. for lunch, up until now, EVERYONE carried this lunch bag at my privaet school:
http://goshopping.thestar.com/shop/produâ¦

which their parents packed.. now i'm going to a public high school so i have no idea how the other kids pack.

so MY QUESTION: how do kids pack their lunches in canadian PUBLIC high schools? like in a plastic bag, a brown paper bag, or just the insulated bags i showed you?? or do most kids just buy their lunches from the school cafeteria? how do kids eat on the first day of high school??

so would it be okay to bring a lunch bag like above or would people think i'm a little kid or something?

if you could answer ALL of my questions, that would be GREATLY appreciated.
THANK YOU!
may the best, thorough answer get the 10 points they deserve....

Answer
LOL!! I'm starting grade 9 tomorrow too. Well I'm going to an all girls school. My answers are going to be correct because I know people in Grade 10 and 11 so ya. Yes, you have to carry your bag around the school. Don't make trips to the locker during class changing time or you'll get late. Bring everything with you. The 1st day you might not need your books and stuff, but just in case bring them. For lunch no one packs their lunch in a specific way. Its all different.
Don't worry!

What's the difference between the US and Canada?

Milly

Culturally I guess?

Thanks.
