Just for fun! Are you having anything good for lunch?

Dell

I'm 36 weeks pregnant a mother of two and still proud of myself when I manage to put together a healthy, nutritious lunch that my kids and I both enjoy.

Suppers are easy-meat, starch, vegetable... And I have all day to prepare and think about it.

Lunch on the other hand seems to sneak up on me. It always seems like I'm cleaning up breakfast and last night suppers dishes, sweeping or doing whatever chores need to get done- and BAM! it's 12:30 and my four year old is "staAarving" or my two year old is "ungry"... So I whip together some pb&j or make mac and cheese.

BUT once in a great while I manage to actually think about lunch and pull something good together. Today it was homemade vegetable soup with whole wheat grilled cheese sandwich. I just took a can of tomato juice and added some frozen veggies and pasta. I even finished it off with warm oatmeal raisin cookies and a glass of milk! YUMMO!

SO...
My question is- Are you having anything good for lunch today? Or have any good healthy lunch ideas?
emrod- Thank you for being perfect! I wish I could be just like you and had children who ate everything I cooked and loved nothing but healthy food!
Unfortunately I live in the real world and I'm sure you do too.

Answer
I had our leftover tomato soup - it was actually from a can, Wolfgang Pucks, tomato basil, and it was awesome. We call it Pizza Soup to the kids. And also a grilled cheese.

Both were leftovers from yesterday.

The other thing our kids are into now is soybeans. Edame (sp?) We get them in the shell, and they are fun to shoot out. And put just a little soy sauce on them.
We also do a lot of frozen mixed veggie bags, the archer farms brand from target. They have some with fun shapes, like carrots in balls, and mini corns.

Do you make your kids' school lunches the night before, or the day of?

Mozz

And why does the bread get like that?? It's wrapped in saran for crying out loud.

Answer
It depends on my mood. I prefer to do it at night so that I can sleep a few extra minutes in the morning, but usually by night time I am exhausted. I've probably done it 5 times at night this year and the rest in the mornings. I use sandwich bags and I haven't had a problem with the bread (I pack for my 5 year old and for my husband, so the husband would say something if it got weird).

I'd like to get something like Nina described so we can save money on bags. I think I'll go to Target this weekend :)

Supporting your family or breastfeeding ... what is more important?

Trixiebell

For example, if a mother is the only breadwinner in the family and needs to go back to work as soon as possible because she doesn't get paid for maternity leave. She may not have time to properly establish breastfeeding before having to go back to work and start pumping, and she doesn't want to deal with pumping at work because it's a distraction and causes friction with her coworkers and boss when she has to take the time out to do it possibly missing important meetings or losing valuable time on projects. Should she lose money by missing more days of work to get breastfeeding going, plus risk losing out on opportunities that could lead to better pay, or should she and the father who stays home just go with formula from the start to make things a lot easier?
Since I know someone will ask this ... she knows pumping at work will cause friction because she has seen it happen with other employees in the past, including one breastfeeding mother who lost out on a promotion.
They have to allow it but they don't have to make it nice for you. They don't have to hold up meetings and they are allowed to give your projects away to other employees. They don't have to give you a nice relaxing room to do it in and your co-workers can be disgusted by your bottles of breastmilk in the office fridge. For many employees it's just not a great thing. I've seen it.
Women never win lawsuits for these things ... it's impossible to prove. They get passed over because they miss something that someone else doesn't so someone else gets it not them. One particular case I saw at my old job, the woman was in line for a promotion but she missed a couple of long meetings - the meeting was in another office where she would have had to pump in a dirty bathroom and had nowhere to store the milk so she opted out. Another employee who was there the whole time took the promotion instead.

Answer
Any breastfeeding is better than no breastfeeding. Even if it's impossible to pump at work (and federal law requires that workplaces provide time and space for mothers to pump [I'm at a loss as to how pumping could cause a woman to miss out on a promotion ... don't you get lunch hours? breaks?]) breastfeeding for a few weeks or a month is better than not breastfeeding at all.

And nobody but the mother herself (and her husband) can decide if the health of her baby is more important than a potential 'future job opportunity.' A year is a VERY small part of womans' work life ... but a very important part of a baby's life.

EDIT: Of course you can't control the feelings of your co-workers. But if they make a big deal about the bottles in the fridge, that would be sexual harrassment. (Or you do have the option to not put the bottles in the fridge -- an insulated bag will work just fine.)

And while of course they don't have to provide 'a nice relaxing room' -- they do have a provide a room that is NOT a bathroom, and that has an electrical outlet. Or, of course, if you have an office, you can pump there.

EDIT: What Mrs. D said. Women who are committed to breastfeeding will do what they have to do to make it work -- and they'll stand up to difficult employers. Women who aren't committed will find/make excuses to explain why they 'couldn't' breastfeed.

You are clearly not committed or motivated to breastfeed. It's your life, your choice, your breasts and your baby. You don't need our consent to do what you want to do and you don't need to come up with excuses. "I understand the risks, but I don't want to," is sufficient.

I have never in my life packed a school lunch. Help?

Krystilin

Hiya! The prices for lunch at my middle school has risen to about $5 and pus the food tastes like bullshit lol. I want to pack my own lunch, but I've never done it before. I'm planning on packing a salad (the ones in the plastic bowls that you can buy at the market and it has all the condiments separated), a water bottle, and a bag of chips. I'm in 8th grade and I like everything in my backpack light, so I'll need to find a way to keep everything cool AND keep my backpack thin. Should I use a plastic bag to put everything in? What should I use? That's probably a stupid question lol.. Thanks for answering!!

Answer
Not a stupid question!
I received as a gift a smaller insulated lunch sack. It is the same shape and size as a brown paper bag.
They sell small containers with liquid in them that freeze, and you just toss one of those in on the bottom.

An alternative to the ice pack is a frozen juice box, and making sure whatever is in your lunch is cold when you put it in. Freeze your water bottle, but not so it is solid, or it will bust.
There was a recent study that said this was not enough, so if your lunch time is more than a few hours past when you packed your lunch, then invest in the ice pack.

Buy a thermos for cold stuff and hot stuff. wonderful for things like soups or stews or chili or casseroles. Rivers adores cottage cheese and fruit, and this goes in my thermos just fine.

Invest in some tupperware/storage containers that will not leak. they are great for all the stuff you pack, even keeping chips and crackers and bread from getting squished. Rivers puts them in a baggie to keep them fresh, then into a container to keep them whole.

Walmart has a whole section of this kind of stuff. For cheap. And it lasts a long, long time.

Get your Mom to buy salad stuff at the grocery, way cheaper to put it all together from scratch, than to get it off the salad bar. Buy some bottles of salad dressing, and pour some into a sealed tight container. Really cheap, and then you do not have to have the same kind every day.
Also consider taking leftovers from last night's dinner. Meatloaf, tuna casserole, roast, you will be the envy of every kid in school.

Save plastic tableware from fast food places, and use that for your lunch. Take it back home and wash it and reuse. Huge savings!

How do I transport frozen/refrigerated food for 12 hours in the luggage compartment of a coach bus?

tina

It wouldn't go above 35 degrees since it's winter... do you think it would be ok to buy some dry ice in an insulated lunch bag for the frozen food and to leave the "need to be refrigerated" foods in the luggage compartment under a coach bus? like sushi, cooked lobster?

the coach bus luggage compartment would be approximately the same temperature as outdoor temps right?
well it wouldnt go above 40 degrees. im travelling from ny to sc on a bus

Answer
Dry ice will disappear very quickly. You would also need a <<lot>> - far more than you could fit into an insulated lunch bag. You might be better of with frozen "blue ice" packs. Look in sporting goods stores for them. Places like Walmart probably carry them.

An insulated lunch bag will not provide enough insulation for the trip. You should use a regular insulated cooler. It does not have to be large, but large enough for your items and 4 or 5 blue ice packs.

We have no idea what the policy of the bus line is as far as whether or not the cargo area is heated. If you want to find out, ask the bus company.

Moms who breastfeed and work.....?

Loren

I was given an Ameda Purley Yours by my co-worker. I am only 32 weeks pregnant currently, but I am trying to be prepared! I have a toddler at home and way too busy to be unprepared. Anyway, the bag that she gave me is not only huge and unsightly but the zipper is broken so she had manufactured velcro so secure it shut. I am way too clumsy to rely on Velcro seal on the breast pump so I called around and found out it will be $45 to $60 to fix, not worth it. I found a small diaper bag at Kohl's today that has an insulated portion to store food. Do you think it will work out fine to store my milk?

I plan on returning to work after 8/10 weeks.
Shannon - Unfortunately no...it is the discontinued pump, although they all apear to be the same with different bags. The one I have stores the pump and sheilds up top and then has to comparts down on the bottom for milk storage.

Answer
of course! I just used a little backpack thing that I got from Universal Studios, lol. I put my milk in an insulated lunch bag in the fridge. I think what you found at Kohls will work just fine! And be less conspicuous!

Besides peanut butter and jelly, what is a lunch that doesn't need to be refrigerated?

Hey Arnold

I need something besides a peanut butter and jelly sandwich to take to work when I don't have access to a fridge!
Thumbs ups for all...even the wise guy who said "hair"

Answer
Choose the Right Lunch Bag

Brown paper bags may be traditional, but they don't do anything to protect your food until lunch time. Get an insulated lunch bag with a cool pack inside. Freeze the cool pack overnight and the frostiness will help keep your food cold. The insulation in the walls of the bag help prevent heat from getting in, further protecting your lunch. Buy individual plastic "ice cubes" and sprinkle them throughout the contents of your bag to chill it further.

Use a Thermos Jug

There's a reason you see construction workers pouring coffee from a thermos all day long: they keep the liquid inside piping hot for hours. Invest in a smaller version designed for soups and chilies. Pack leftover stew, casseroles, pasta dishes or hot sandwich toppings like pulled pork in the thermos. Add crusty bread or rolls to complete your lunch.

Peanut Butter Basics

You can indulge in the occasional peanut butter and jelly sandwich if you want to get nostalgic about your school days. After that, use peanut butter and other nut butters in a more adult way to add protein to your lunch. Add cranberries, bananas or other fruits to peanut butter on crusty whole wheat bread. Pack a small container of nut butter and use it as a dip for apple slices, celery sticks, pretzels and crackers.

Instant Lunch

Instant food at your desk no longer means noodles in a cup. Stock up on meals that only need a small amount of hot water to activate a heater, or dried meals that cook in the microwave with water if you have an oven at work. Bring a thermos of boiling hot water along with your lunch to cook ramen noodles or other instant pasta dishes. Pack tuna salad in a can along with a variety of crackers and cheese for small sandwiches.

Vegetables and Fruit

Add some variety to your menu by including different fruits and vegetables each day. Make a salad occasionally and include individual packets of salad dressing. Cut up slices of vegetables and pack some ranch dip. Bring whole fruits or cups of mixed pieces of fruit. Not only will the produce taste good, the additional foods will help fill you up without adding a lot of calories.

Paper bag lunches within these parameters?

Q. Hey! I want to pack my own lunches this year! Obviously, I'd like it to be pretty portable (ex: no soup)
My diet specifications are: No nut butters, no dairy, no chocolate, nothing to high in salt or sugar.

My ideas so far are a homemade burrito, roasted veggie sandwich, salad, and homemade burrito bol.
Thanks a million for your help!!!

Answer
With the right equipment, all lunches can be totally portable.
Most large stores sell Thermos containers(either that brand or a comparable one) which allows you to take a wide variety of different foods with you.
They come in wide mouth styles to accomodate all kinds of things.
You can get one for hot foods, pour boiling water in it and allow to stand while you are heating what ever you are taking, dump the hot water, put the hot food in there and it will be hot and safe for a very long time.
With cold foods, you can store the thermos, open, in the freezer. next morning, add your tuna salad or fruit salad and close. It will be nice and cold at lunch time.
With that little bit of equipment you can take almost anything you can think of including interesting left overs from dinner the night before to stuff you made especially for lunches.
soups
stews
hot dishes
sliced hot meats and gravy
hot roasted veggies
etc
With the thermos used cold;
tuna salad
chicken salad
fruit salad
any pasta salad
fresh veggie sticks
the options are limited only by your hungar and imagination.

Construction workers have been taking lunches using insulated containers for years.

Anyone want to swap school lunch ideas?

plastic

I'm making a list of foods that can be packed for school lunches this year. I realize there are so many more things I could pack but just skip my mind. I thought we could give each other ideas and help mom's of new school aged kids out.
So, what do your kids like?

A few of our faves:
Carrots, celery, broccoli with a side of low fat ranch dip
ham, cheese, lettuce and mayo sandwich
peanut butter and marshmallow cream sandwich
pb and nutella sandwich
large muffin
go-gurts
zip lock bag with chex mix and cashews
banana or apple or seedless grapes
turkey wraps
those individual tubs of applesauce or mixed fruit
strawberries with a little packet of splenda

What else? :)

LOL- about the mayo- I lay the sandwich on an ice pack.
I forgot we usually add soup, spagetti-o's or rice or corn , in those little soup thermos's.
In both of my daughters classes they have not had peanut allergies children in them, yet. They sit in the cafeteria by classes and we could always bring peanuts. I think one year- we couldn't bring walnuts. It's a very small school. :)

Answer
I would have loved to been able to have mayo on my sandwiches at school, but isnt it going to spoil in a lunch bag all day? Anyway that being said....

PB&J is a tried and true fav! Cheezits are good, you can pack apple slices with a piece of cheese on them (yum!) or PB on celery.
Oh I have found at walmart that there are applesauces that are different flavors like pear and strawberry.
Bags of cashews are good, but so are mixed nuts too
a bagel sandwich is a yummy variation on a sandwich.
fruit salad
regular salad (if your kids like that)
Hope that gives you a few ideas!

P.s I think swapping lunch ideas is a great and cute idea!

Edit: haha about the ice pack..I totally forgot about them, my parents never bought one so I just forget about them! :)

How do you keep it cold?

Answer
They make small lunch bag coolers with ice packs built into them and they are cheap money.

Or put an ice pack in it yourself.

Need help deciding what to bring for lunch to work.?

T-Man

Im short on options and also devices. I start work soon and I need help deciding what to eat for lunch. It has to last from the time i make it and the time i eat it. It needs to last roughly 4-5 Hours. I do not have a refrigerator and I only have a microwave available. The food will be kept in a locker for about 5 hours @ room temperature, slightly warmer though. My choices will be a thawed Banquet "TV Dinner", Cup of Noodle (Ramen), Fried Egg Sandwich, Ham Sandwich, and rice with asian style sausages. If you have other good ideas, it will be helpful. I don't want to go out and buy a bag of chips. If all those 5 options do not work, my last resort is to spend 5 dollars everyday on a 5 dollar subway.
Don't tell me to order pizza and heat up the pizza. Thats way to expensive to do and it takes up too much room in the fridge.
I'll be working at a Auto Shop...I wouldn't have room to bring a ice pack/cooler. It needs to be realllyyyy simple =X

Answer
My partner has a problem with outside food due to a very sensitive stomach so I prepare all his meals everyday in a tiffin box.

A good idea is to buy a 2/3 tier lunchbox or a compartmentalized lunch box with separate little boxes in the main lunch box so you can put different 'courses' through or separate certain ingredients which might make the rest of the food soggy (i.e salads, tomatoes in sandwiches, etc).

Example of a good insulated 2/3 tier lunch box:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Zojirushi-Classic-Bento-Vacuum-Insulated-Lunch-Jar-NIB_W0QQitemZ110463178372QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item19b81e5684

If you can get a good brand/type which is insulated so it keeps your food warm or cold, preventing any bacterial build up since you're talking about 4 - 5 hours.
If you prefer non insulated ones make sure they are microwaveable as not all of them are microwaveable, so double check before buying.

If you're going for a non-insulated, microwavable lunch box, its good to get one of the types which has a cold/ice/water bottle pack over the top to keep your food hygienically chilled, that way you prevent any bacterial build up over the hours.
You can then separate the water bottle/ice pack from the main food contents and microwave it to have a cool drink and a hot lunch.

Some good ideas:

- Buy a pack of frozen mixed veggies to use in stir-fries, pastas, instant noodles.
- Buy a packet of loose baby spinach or rocket to throw in sandwiches or other cook ups.
- Buy BBQ chicken at a discount and shred it, then freeze it in portions so you can use them easily in your food with meat.
- Buy basmati rice as they are long grain and when cooked the grains do not stick or become sticky, They are very good to keep for hours in a lunch box and heat up well without losing its freshness. All you need to do to 'refresh' the rice is to sprinkle a little cold water over the top and microwave for a min or two as its as good as freshly cooked.

Some Food ideas:

- Lemon mayo & baby spinach chicken/ham sandwiches:
Lemon mayo can be made by grating lemon rind and a small squeeze of lemon into normal mayo. Layer on bread, add baby spinach, tomato slices, bbq chicken shreds/ham and add salt and pepper. Flatten and slice diagonally.

- Cheesy rocket, avocado, red onion and chicken burritos:
Grated cheddar/or you can use sliced cheese, mashed avocado, sliced red onions, lettuce and chicken wrapped in a burrito. Very tasty and can omit any ingredients as per taste.

- Egg fried rice (Great with day old rice or leftover rice)
Beat egg with chilli powder, salt, pepper, pinch of 5 spice/cumin. Fry into omelette and break apart into pieces. Chop onions.
Fry onions till golden brown or slight browned, 3 tbsp water, 1/2 chicken stock cube, 1 tbsp soy sauce until it becomes a thickened sauce. Throw in frozen veggies, chopped bacon/chicken, egg pieces and stir fry for 5 min+.
Throw in 1 cup rice, stir fry on high heat until everything is well mixed.

- Mee Goreng
Cook noodles as normal, can be any flavour but of course if you use noodles such as Indo-Mee it will taste much better. Fry onions, add mixed veggies, pinch of tumeric (ok if none), 1 tbsp tomato paste, 1 - 2 tbsp water, stir fry well till veggies cooked.
Toss in noodles and mix well.

- Chinese Stir-fry of any ingredients + side of rice + side of soup
- Japanese bento style dish of Okonomiyaki chicken (chicken and egg on rice) using your bbq chicken, with a side of miso soup and a side of fruit like watermelon.
- Dips: Mexican Guacamole with dips, Greek dips with pita bread, Mid-Eastern dips such as eggplant dip, yoghurt and cucumber dip with pita bread.

You can have all these with sides of cut fruit, or perhaps some leftover muffin/dessert you had which couldn't finish or saved a portion of, a small salad for a complete, healthy meal.

Go check out some food sites for inspiration it will really help as well.

Many of them include pictures too.
Have fun experimenting! You'll save lots of money too.

We used to spend about $20 per person a day for lunch including coffees and snacks during coffee breaks, not including weekends.
After we started making our own lunches we actually became more creative and aware of the food we were putting into our bodies and craving good, wholesome foods instead of fast food and takeaway junk.
Savings = (($20 + $20)x 5) = $200 a week)x 4 = $800 a month saved.
Annual savings = $800 x 12 = $9600

Saved up enough for a few flat screen tvs and overseas trips. :)

gift ideas please?

It is going to be my boyfriends 18th birthday next month. i dont want to give him some cliche' gift. please give me ideas. or personal stories
I thought of a hot air baloon ride but its too expansive.

Answer
I'm a person who loves to give practical gifts...and lots of 'em. What does he like? What does he need?

My boyfriend's birthday is actually coming up in 4 days. He is into weight lifting and running, likes funny stuff, and needs a watch. So, I got him a watch, a gift card to Foot Locker for running shoes, an insulated lunch box (he currently just uses a plastic bag) that I filled with healthy snack bars, energy shots, and sleeveless t-shirts (he likes to run and lift in them). He and I watched a Beavis and Butthead DVD his friend had, but we only saw the one and don't have it anymore, so I got him all three seasons of it on DVD. He likes Michigan State and drinking (we're of age, don't worry), so I got him a Michigan State beer glass that freezes when you put it in the freezer. And since every man is really a little boy at heart, I got him those cheese and pretzel snack packs, pixie stix, and some silly straws to drink some alcoholic drinks with.

For the party, I'm going to get him his favorite DQ blizzard in cake form, but I'm going to do the illustration on it based on a joke he made while we happened to see Ninja Turtles on TV while flipping through channels. I'm also going to make his favorite dish, and make my signature drink!

That's a lot of stuff, but even some kind of small gift package you can make by throwing a few of his favorite things into a box will work. When we first started dating, he got me a Christmas stocking with a card and filled it with protein bars (I'm into weight lifting, too).

Does a man have to say the word "date" when he is planning a date with a woman?

The Merovi

Based on some responses to my earlier Q:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AmU_RN2cJILQz_fp.MwKrwrty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20110712082442AABrJLO

Let's say I want to have a lunch date with a woman. She is not a co-worker and no previous friendship was established. Surely, she can figure out it is a date? Why can't I use indirect "signals" as a man? This is not reserved solely for women (you know, hair flipping, smiling, turning her head, etc)? I've got my own bag of "signals" as well.

Princess Stef. once called the man paying a "social cue" (romantic intent/date) vs. just being friendly.

Answer
if the woman is interested, "date" is the word she wants to hear.

if the woman isn't interested at all but you got a thing for her just tell her you want to grab lunch. if she's hungry and you're hungry she won't think anything of it, especially if it's just casual. and from there you can talk and start reading into her signals and just play it cool.

i only consider it a date when he says "i need a date" or "i'm looking for someone to go with to this event"

sometimes though i see through the guy and what wasn't considered or coined as a date slowly appears or turns out to be one. i sense this stuff over time after numerous lunch outings. in that case if i'm not interested, then that freaks me out cus then it's like "Surprise! We're on a date and we've been on numerous ones without you knowing!!" and i feel like i'm in a trap and i need to escape and avoid this guy. I'd rather just have the guy be upfront, like "hey i wanna get to know you, let's hang out sometime" then all awkwardness is set aside and i sorta know his intentions and can decide from there.

Say, if you know you aren't too good or sly/ keen with the ladies or you doubt her interest in you, then you might just wanna opt for the "are you hungry?" and take baby steps in which she hopefully slowly falls for you after getting to know you and then you can present the future idea of a "date" with less chance of rejection.

good luck

I need a cute DIY gift Idea for Christmas. ?

Alex L

Mainly this is for the women in my family. I have done ornaments already... and need a cute idea for just the girls. I cant afford the lavish gifts I have bought everyone the past couple years, but dont want to just not get them something.

Answer
What you'll need:
Brownie Mix
Chocolate Or Vanilla frosting
5 candy canes.
Brownie mix supplies

Make the brownies(follow the instructions on the package), then take them out when they're ready. Let them cool COMPLETELY! Next cut the brownies out, one by one, about 5 x 3 so you'll have 15. Take the frosting & well cover! After that, somehow- with a hammer or a hard tool crush the candy canes into tiny pieces and sprinkle them on top of the brownies.

You can get some scrapbooking supplies and make lovely christmas cards. I saw this really good idea on HGTV. They took brown paper bags for lunch, and folded the front side where you'd place the items in upward. (you hold the bag upside down from the opening and fold it upward) You'd decorate it with the scrapbooking supplies and possibly place a card, gift card, some cash in the opening pocket.

If you go onto HGTV.com I'm sure you can find the idea!

Also if you can knit, make them homemade scarves, gloves, maybe a blanket. You can make candles for them, that's always fun.

Homemade cookies, fudge, candy, etc!
Look up ideas online. Google and Yahoo!'s search bars should do you some good!

Wikihow.com and ehow.com are great for DIY ideas!

Happy holidays!

How does a young guy approach older women?

Q. I am 20 years old, and i am mature for my age. I have my own apartment, house, and i have a nice paying job. Older women smile at me a lot and they are more open to talk to me than women my age. Women my age aren't mature yet, so i would like to attract an older woman. Older women have this sexy look about them, they know how to be sexy and classy at the same time. I must admit that older women have great bodies too, i know why but there boobs seem to be bigger than younger women.

How do i approach older women in public, and let them know i am serious for a relationship. Is there any tips i need. I have no problem talking to older women, but i don't know how to ask for there number without it looking like i am in it for just the sex. I want to have a real relationship with a woman in her mid 30's to mid 40's. How should i approach older women.

Answer
By the time you reach our age we have the funds to get the best boobs possible...probably a gift from of our ex-husbands who dreamed of having a 20 year old wife.
Good for you woman my age are flattered when the younger guys are somewhat interested since most of the guys our age are not that great looking and a bunch of douche bags anyways...nor do they like to have fun. So if you can make them laugh and show them a good time they might look at you as more relationship material.
I can tell you a story about one young cutie around 22 that could not keep his eyes off me he just kept staring when he saw me and was too shy too actually talk...I thought it was adorable because he is really hot but does not quite know it yet. One day he was walking through a door at my work to get some lunch and our eyes locked I guess he did not expect me to be sitting directly in front of the door but as soon as he started walking he was not looking were he was going a tripped over a case of stairs. The fall was so hard it knocked him to the ground (I was moved by the whole thing thinking how Innocent he was) but I did get up and ran over to him and put his head in my lap and asked "Are you OK?" All the men in the place were laughing at him, but I was over there comforting him making sure he was ok I put my arm around him and lifted him up to the ground and touched his head to make sure there were no bumps or bruises. After that we would talk all the time and got to know each other better and I will always remember how he tripped for me so sweetly.
Be your self and you just never know what will happen

Someone tell me that all women aren't crazy.?

Nick S

I met this chick at a bar and we hit it off real good and so over the next week we texted back and forth and went out to lunch and then on a date a couple days later. I'm a good looking guy, smart, and I was the epitome of a gentleman. She said she had a great time and then a few days later I get this crap about not wanting a serious relationship. Listen, I can understand if this went on for a month or something but it was a week, who said anything about a serious relationship.

Why do women claim to want a nice guy and then one comes along and nothing? I mean if I would've known she wanted me to be a d-bag I could've just started off like that. Ok from here on out girls, BRUTALLY HONEST. I'm done screwing around.
Yeah just to let everyone know, I could hold a conversation with a brick wall, I used to be a boxer (so standing up for myself isn't a problem), and people tell me I'm the funniest guy they know.

Answer
Nah, we ARE all crazy. Sorry.

Seriously though, I think she was just trying to avoid dragging it on and having to tell you later when it would hurt you more, I don't think she intentionally meant to be a bitch, she was just making her mind up and decided against you. It sucks, but it happens.

Maybe a bar is not the best place to meet women.

Some tips on how to look like a serious pro photographer?

smallbluep

What are your recommendations on fashionable clothing and accessories that will make me look the part of a serious pro photographer? Is a photo vest "in" these days? Does it help if I wear logos like National Geographic Society, Canon, or Nikon? Any ideas on how I should style my hair, should I grow a beard, have a pondering reflective look, etc..
GambitGrrl, I'm not interested in developing the portfolio. I just need to look more "pro".
Actor the suit is a great idea. Do you think it will clash with the photo vest? I think I might have to just carry the extra gear in a camera bag.
fhotoace you have heard that your first impression needs to be the best impression right?
Samurai I am not trying to fool anyone. I am trying to bring out the pro photographer that resides within. I just need a sharp looking outfit.
I like the idea of the rugged manly look of the press photographer. I can definitely see myself sporting that look and I can bring it out confidently. One more thing about that look is will women find it appealing? I was thinking of working out to build more muscle mass and getting clothes that are a size or two smaller to accentuate my musculature.

I obviously don't want to look like a bum and smell the part. Any recommendations on men care products like fragrances to round off the look. I'm talking about aftershaves and body sprays.I've seen commercials for AXE body spray. Will it draw women like bees to nectar?

Answer
There are really two basic types of pro photographers that would be seen in public and you should choose which one you want to look like before you determine your photographic style. These two styles are so different from one another that I will address them separately. It is up to you to decide which one makes you feel more professional, because when it comes right down to it, nobody but you will know which one is more comfortable for you. This is a frequently asked question in this section, so I hope you do not mind if I use one of my standard boilerplate answers as I think you will find most of the information is completely useful for your needs.

Press photographer:

First, stay awake for at least 24 hours before being seen in public. Do not shave for at least 48 hours, but do not exceed 72 hours visible growth. Carry two cameras with lenses attached. If will not matter if they both function or not, since you are only have the second body for the sake of appearance. It should at least resemble a 35 mm SLR, though, so it is large enough to hang by a neck strap. Carry a gadget bag instead of wearing a vest. Keep the strap just short enough to make it look uncomfortable, but you will actually be able to use it to stabilize your elbows during a shot in much the same way as one would use a rifle sling to stabilize the barrel the old fashioned way. Vests were helpful when film was king, but how many spare memory cards are you going to stash in a vest anyhow? You would have to put soda cans inyour pockets to make the thing look suitably full and it's just not worth it. With a gadget bag, you can get the straps tangled as everything hangs from your neck and you will look busy without even moving a muscle. You can also carry lunch and some Diet Coke or Red Bull in the gadget bag. You can buy a small insulated bag to put inside a proper photographer's gadget bag to keep them cool. These insulated bags are available anywhere, but my recommendation is that you use Yahoo! Shopping guide. Click on "Bags" and then "Insulated" and you will find a good one. Buy a LowePro or Domke camera bag, but cover up the brand with duct tape. Put at least a 200 mm zoom lens on your main camera, like a 70-200 or 18-200, although the 70-200 is bigger, so it's better. 70-300 is even better. Use logo gear, like a strap, but if you want to look like a pro, take a black permanent Sharpie and black out the brand name. Wear a baseball cap from a sporting event or a sports team, but not a camera company. Look harried and confused.

Portrait photographer:

Ask fhotoace to fine-tune this suggestion, but dress is casual but neat. Dockers pants are prefered, but L.L. Bean are acceptable. An Izod polo top is preferred, but Brooks Brothers is acceptable. My choice is a tan top, but navy is acceptable. Sand pants, but khaki is acceptable. Do not wear socks unless you think they provide some value in protecting the expensive inner soles of your expensive shoes, which should be docksider-style shoes. Clarks are preferred, but Sebago is acceptable. You will find others here who have a strong preference for the khaki L.L.Bean pants, navy Brooks Brothers polo, and Sebago shoes and I can not argue with them. Many of them will also wear socks. Once you have arrived at wearing this level of clothing, your comfort is probably as important as the actual label on the clothing. If you don't feel good, you don't look good, and if you don't look good, why would anyone hire you to take their picture? Looks are everything, so go to a fine clothing store and try on various brands and colors to see which one feels best to you. These are the clothes that you should buy, as long as you do not leave the core group of brands mentioned above. It's the same as the Nikon vs. Canon debate. You can have no more than 2 days growth of facial hair, but if you do not have that exact amount, you must shave clean before appearing in public. One camera is all you ever carry and the strap should be absent or dangling. The camera should have a battery bulge like a Nikon D2Xs or one of the Canon Mark's. A strobe is required, especially on bright sunny days. If you have more equipment than that, an assistant is required. It doesn't matter how your assistant dresses, so long as it is not quite up to your level, as YOU are supposed to be the best looking person at the shoot.

Your assistant should have your equipment loaded into a cart with large pneumatic tires. These tires are essential, because have you considered how very likely it is that you will be traversing rough terrain which would subject your equipment to excessive vibration? How are you going to control that vibration? The pneumatic tires have a built-in shake reduction capacity that will make it possible to go over the bumps without shaking your equipment. They are also good for navigating on the sand, if you are doing a beach shoot. Because of their broad contact patch, you will find that they are very well suited to equipment cart stabilization.

ADD'L

Women are drawn to rugged men dangling cameras around their necks like wasps are drawn to gold jewelry. Telephoto lenses are a great asset, because they are sure to be impressed with the size of your lens. As far as the fragrance, don't axe me because I don't know and I won't answer a question that I don't know anything about. Usually.

SIMS 3 ideas...........?

Pink Tears

STAR THIS (?) IF YOU LIKE ICECREAM OR COOKIES

Answer
Well these are ideas I like: People can carry backpacks, or purses and there should be accessories options where you use them how you would. Maybe a different way to change their clothes and hair. Simpler like a menu when you wake up how you want to look or something. Have what they want to do work with the times better, so they sleep through the night. MUCH MORE OBJECTS! There was just three TV's, and downloading isn't the safest thing for your computer. Also there should be pre-adolescent, that can fall in love but not be naughty, and teen's can be pregnant. Agian, more accessories for a much more detailed house. Cell Phone Options. Going to school with sims. Or work. Let me go into expansions:
Country life with horses and cows and barns
A naughty Rated M expansion pack, that makes things really crazy, drugs drinking, drunk, doiong woohoo with more than one person, not having to be in love or anything, domestic violence.
Online Play Expansio , or default. Sleepovers. They should be able to climb through windows. Like open them. Cooler way to sneak in. SIms seasons again with weather and like tornados that to damage. Like cut your lot in half and erase a whole half. More fashionable clothes. More hair movement. Celing fans. Oh and better decorations. and for the shelves, there should be different grids for different items. Like you pick up a small item and the grid size is smaller. oh and write love letters. and woohoo on stairs. or at least sit on stairs or something. domestic violence deaths, clothing brand sin game. chewing gum. packing lunch, and thus things. for bags, purses, click and dropdown list you select what you want in there. how many things means hevir mean carrying bag less energy. click on the bag and get options for what accesorie and why? bags have homework in them. since many of these wont be in sims 3 they can be in expansion. wow i think a lot and fast. do bad i stopped. WAIT! more drink option. more booze. n better communication even if u cant use a real language. more notes that pop that say what your sim thinks or hears.

Going to college- lunch bag ideas?

Summer Swe

Hi so i'm going to college and I need some ideas on a good lunch bag, tote, box, jar, etc. I need one that's insulated, can keep food cold or hot up to 4-6 hours, and isn't picnic size but not so tiny that i can only fit a sandwich in it. Budget is $120. Does anybody know of any good ones that they'd recommend???

Answer
A hundred and twenty bucks for a bag lunch? Wow.

You can get a very good insulated lunch tote, in varying sizes from dainty appetite to hungry man, for fifteen dollars or less, often including a thermos.

Trying to do something cute for my boyfriend! I'm his house wife <3
Ha ha great answers, you guys made me laugh! Thanks!

Answer
If he's just your boyfriend, then you aren't yet his housewife. But as this seems to be how you wish to define yourself, wouldn't it be better to subserviently ask him how he'd like his lunch packed? Frankly, I'd think it would be far nicer to deliver a HOT lunch to his place of work.

Did your school lunch get changed?

Ours were good last year. Now we barely get any food and its all nasty

Answer
Yes, I work as a Kindergarten Teacher, and our school lunch menu got changed at the end of last year, so that we could offer a "healthier" menu. Even the teachers often used to buy lunch at school if we didn't feel like packing a lunch that morning, and now we won't even touch the food that the cafeteria sells. They switched from cheeseburgers to plain turkey burgers on whole wheat buns, which are absolutely disgusting and have some sort of weird chewy chunks in them, and they also only offer white pizza on whole grain dough now, which tastes worse than dog food probably tastes. They stopped selling chips of any kind, and now they only offer apple slices, yogurt, or salad with low-fat dressing as a side.

It's all because the parents were complaining about the school's "unhealthy" lunch menu. Well, if they didn't like the lunch menu, then why didn't they go to the grocery store, buy "healthier" food, and pack their kids' lunches themselves? I don't understand why they had to make everyone else eat disgusting, tasteless food just because they felt like their kids weren't eating healthy enough. When I was in high school 8 years ago, a daily lunch menu option was chili poured into an open Frito's bag, and they called it "chili tacos"... lol. I ate it all the time, and I was still always a thin 110 pounds! What people don't understand is that as long as their kids are active and fit fruits and veggies into their diets at least once a day, then they will still be healthy, and they won't become obese.

Camping menu?

AriesAlway

Family of 4 - Kids ages 4 and 2. Any interesting fun foods to make while camping. We've got that samdwitch making - and have made grilled cheese, and pizza sandwitches, even poop tarts in it! LOL Any other things to cook over the fire? Doesnt have to be in that maker just in general. Thanxs

Answer
When our entire family goes camping - grandma & grandpa, adults, the grandkids, and maybe friends - we keep the pie irons busy most of one day. One trick we learned is to use butter-flavored cooking spray to generously coat the pie irons before each use. We have 4 regular irons and 2 waffle irons. If you can think of it, we have probably have tried making it in our pie irons. I sometimes prepare some 'fillings' at home, and keep them in the cooler, so the wait time is reduced when we get hungry. "Are they ready yet?"

>> Use Jiffy brand mixes and made pancakes and waffles - the pie iron people also make waffle irons. Make sure your irons are well oiled and hot. Great for breakfast or snacks.
>> We slice potatoes and make potato chips (like home fries).
>> Prepare taco meat at home. Fill soft flour tortillas with meat, cheese, and whatever else you like in a burrito. Fold to completely enclose, and grill in your pie iron. Ole!
>> One night when camping we usually have stew, chicken or beef. Make the gravy real thick. The next day you can use the left overs to make "pie iron pot pies, using a spoon or two of stew between the bread slices. Top with extra gravy. Yummo!
>> Besides the usual bread, experiment with tortillas, egg roll wrappers, and refrigerated biscuits, crescent rolls, or pizza crust.

A Sunday morning favorite for our family is "Eggs-In-A-Bag".
Get a supply of lunch bags. Cut bacon strips in half and line bottom of bag. Crack egg into cup, then gently add over the bacon. Okay, you can break the yolks, or even scramble them if you prefer. Sprinkle with salt & pepper. Fold over the top of the bag several times to seal. You will want a medium hot batch of coals under your grill, no flames. If you can hold your hand over the coals, at grill height, for a count of 3 or 4 you have a medium heat. After 5 minutes peek in to see if they are done yet. (even after years of doing this we still keep checking - this is an art, not a science) The bacon will not get crispy brown, but it will be fully cooked. When finally ready rip open the bags and enjoy. You can eat them as is, or top them with cheese, salsa, or whatever else tickles your tongue.

Have fun camping, and eating.
