Will freezer pack keep dairy products cool enough to be safe to eat in a lunch bag?

Nathan

I have an insulated lunch tote that has a mesh screen on the top where a freezer gel pack can slip inside. I also have containers with freezable gel containers for a sandwich and about 3/4 of a cup. This is cool enough to keep lunch meat cool enough to eat, but lunch meat can be kept at room temperature for the purposes of a lunch.

I haven't used mayonnaise, but I would like to. I'd also like to use the cup to keep yogurt or cottage cheese but I'm afraid the yogurt will spoil before I can get to it.

I leave for work about 7:45 and I have lunch at 11:15. There is a refrigerator, but it's iffy that there will be any space for my bag, so I keep my bag at my desk until lunch.

By 11:15 the gel has thawed is is sloshing around, but the sandwich is cool. But I'm not sure if it's cool enough to safely eat mayo or cottage cheese or yogurt.

Answer
There should be no problem keeping your food safe for that amount of time, but if you are worried why not get one more freezer pack and put it on the bottom of your bag for security? That would be more than enough even if they both thawed out. Another thing you can do for safety is to freeze your sandwich. It would be thawed out by lunch and you would also have the added security of knowing it would not be getting too warm where there is mayo in it, and it would also help keep your food cold. Just a small word of advice tho, lunch meat should never be kept at room temperature with the assumption that it will be safe for that little bit of time. We just got over a nasty case of salmonella in my family by assuming that. Always keep your sandwiches as cold as you can for as long as you can.

What are some lunch ideas that don't need a microwave?

Tanya

I found some good containers that keep food cold (which is great because there is no access to a refrigerator) but no good ones that keep food hot/warm (at least, not in my budget). I'm going to be starting college in a couple of weeks and the only thing I can think to take are sandwiches and salads. Any ideas on what to take would be awesome (healthy ideas would be more so), thanks.

Answer
have you thought about a thermos?

or an insulated lunch bag?

as long as you put stuff thats already hot in it they will keep it warm

otherwise if you have access to hot water you could have noodle cups

or if you have a sandwich press you could toast your sandwich

or you could have wraps

Help!? Ideas for a packed lunch?

.:Emerald:

Hi!
I finally got accepted to a modeling agency and am about to take classes! (YAY!)
The lady there told me to bring lunch as it is a 5 hour class... I need good ideas for a packed lunch!
Nothing too hard to prepare, needs to stay fresh, easy to make or find, and not too big or small.
Thank you so much!

Answer
Packing a lunch for school and/or work can be a challenge. Often times you donât have access to a microwave or refrigeration. Eating the same thing every day can get old after a short time as well. My suggestions for lunch are listed below. Consider taking an insulated lunch bag to keep some of these things cold until itâs time to eat. You could also freeze your beverage (water, juice, etc) and use it as an ice pack if you donât have a lunch box.

Wraps, salads, and sandwiches are good for the âentrée courseâ of your lunch. Use different deli meats and cheeses every week so you donât tire of the same flavors. Itâs good to make homemade dressings or switch up the condiments on these items as well. Use as many fresh ingredients as possible to increase the nutritional value as well. Another idea would be to cook chicken breasts, fish, and pork tenderloins in large amounts over the weekend and keep the cooked meat in the fridge or freezer as an addition to your sandwiches, wraps, or salads. Itâs a nice change to deli meat. My family also enjoys chicken, tuna, or ham salad sandwiches every so often. And you can never go wrong with peanut butter and jelly!

As the âside dishesâ for your lunch, I would suggest any of the items listed below.
fruit, yogurt, pudding, or jello cups
fresh vegetables with ranch dressing
granola bars
popcorn
trail mix
chips (take salsa or a cheese dip for tortilla chips)
pretzels
100 calorie snack packs (cookies, brownie bites, etc)
special K cracker chips
dry cereal
fresh fruit (like apples/bananas with peanut butter, orange slices, grapes, etc)
tasty cakes (Little Debbie brand)
bologna and cheese cubes
broccoli, macaroni, pasta, or potato salad
crackers (goldfish, animal crackers, cheese or peanut butter filled sandwich crackers)
dried fruit (raisins, craisins, banana/apricot/apple chips)
deviled or pickled eggs
cheese curls or cheese balls
fun sized candy bars
mixed nuts
gummy candy
marshmallows

Do you carry around more than one purse/bag?

Do you carry around more than one purse/bag?
Someone tells me that lately he sees women in the city carrying two or three purses at once.

Answer
I see it in Toronto all the time -mostly the ladies getting out of the commuter trains. when I head to Toronto I have two bags, one large one with my portfolio and papers and lunch and more and one smaller one. I can usually leave the larger one at the studio or office or -in a pinch -in a locker at the school and carry my wallet, phone and keys in a smaller purse.

I need lunch bag ideas for cold lunch?

Q. i need a lunch bag idea it cant be big it has to be smaller and i goto middle school so it has to be something thats stylish too

Answer
Don't worry about being "stylish" or "cool" I am a junior in high school and know a girl that has a hello kitty lunch box and I myself have a batman lunch box with its own cape. I am proud of my lunch box (my friend is too) and no one makes fun of me or her.

packed lunch for highschool?

Gabby

This year will be my first year of highschool, I love to shop so I don't want to sped all my money on lunch, and I don't want to eat the nasty school lunch, besides saving money, I want to take a packed lunch to eat healthy and eat want I'm in the mood for that day. Would it be dumb if I had a lunch bag (a stylish one like vera bradley or something) would it make me look like I should be in elementary school? thanks :)

Answer
It's not childish, lots of people bring lunches every day (because ew, school lunch.) I got a cute lunchbox that looked like a purse, but you can just use a paper bag. Besides, it's not like you're going to carry it around all day, you'll most likely keep it in your locker or backpack until lunch rolls around.

good diaper bag for multiple kids?

Jo

I am pregnant with number three and due in a couple of weeks. I am in need of a diaper bag thats large enough to carry things for 3 kids under 5 yrs of age. Durable, stylish and as I said large.
I am looking to spend NO MORE than 75 dollars on it.
If you have ANY suggestions please let me know! Thanks!

Answer
When I had two in diapers I didn't get a diaper bag at all. I got a Satchel bag the kind ppl carry computers in. It was rectangular and fit the diaper and bottle carrying bag easily it also had several pockets for all my mommy needs. It had an adjustable strap so i could wear it on my shoulder so i could hold the car seat in one hand and my toddlers hand. It was cheaper then any large diaper bag I could find about 25 bucks at target and more adult/ stylish. I used it as my purse and baby bag so when I wasn't with the kids I didn't look like I was carrying around a child's bag. It also was very easy to wash. Also i used a generic insulated lunch sack for bottles that was about $4.00 rather then the very over priced bottle carries. Good luck and congrats.

Outside food in theme parks?

Fiestyone

I have heard many people mention that they always take snacks, juices and water into disney parks. What about universal, seaworld, and busch garden them parks? Would like to eat breakfast in our room, lunch brought in and dinner only at the parks. Thanks!

Items like slim jims, pretzels, goldfish etc..
Backpack or small shoulder strap insulated bag / cooler type tote

Answer
I have taken food and drinks into all of the theme parks you have listed and never had any complaints. We take our own food inside because they're so pricey at the parks. Have fun and enjoy yourself!
