My birthday is wensday, but i'm doing my party friday for more time. I relaly want to throw a great party. I'm inviting girls and guys to the party. I had mainly the same people come to my christmas party and they were really crazy and we got bored fast. I don't want that to happen again. Anybody got some really cool ideas of stuff to do? No spin the bottle and stuff my parents would flip.

Answer
You could do a scavanger hunt, or you could do a fun competition like Iron chef and then eat the results. Here is a website that lists a whole bunch of ideas. Hope you find something appealing to you.

Ideas for Coed Teen Party Games

Whether itâs a sweet 16 birthday party or just some friends getting together, itâs fun to have some interactive games that allow teens to show off their talents, engage in conversation, or take safe chances.

Music Video Charades. Divide the group into two mixed gender teams. Give them five minutes to come up with ten popular musical acts with videos on YouTube or on music television. Without using music, each team acts out a scene from a video for the others to guess.

Pop Culture Trivia. Look at teen magazines and MySpace for information on celebrities, pop stars, and other hot topics. Write out fun facts and have players answer. Prizes can be related to some of the trivia subjects.

Taste it. Put a variety of food items into small, numbered plastic containers. The object is to have a sample with your eyes closed and write down what you think you just ate. Items such as bittersweet chocolate, guacamole, strained carrots, spaghetti sauce, marshmallow fluff, ground up saltines, and the like work well for the harmless âewâ factor. Donât get too gross, and be aware of potential food allergies.

Touch it. Similar to taste it, you write down what you think you touched. Separate some tactile things into numbered paper lunch bags. Fun items such as a feather boa, gummy worms, a piece of velvet, double-stick tape, shaving cream or pudding, a nest of fishing line, and other unusual items make for funky fun.

Ice Breakers. Adults make it through many business networking functions by the grace of party ice breakers. Two popular games of this genre are sentence starters and Q&A.

In sentence starters, people go around the room finishing sentences such as:

* If I were a superhero, Iâd rid the world ofâ¦
* I have neverâ¦
* In the fifth grade, I onceâ¦
* If I were a dog, Iâd be aâ¦

In Q&A, every party attendee has a piece of paper attached to his or her back as they arrive. On the paper is a person, place, or thing. The attendee can make three attempts to guess whatâs on the paper by asking other party goers questions, to which they answer âwarm,â âcold,â or âyes.â
[edit]
Make a Game Out of Party Food

Another idea for coed teen party games is to get everybody in the kitchen to make the groupâs party snacks.

Individual pizzas. Be it a meat-lovers or all cheese, thereâs a type of pizza for every teen. Prepare a variety of ingredients ahead of time, and use the packaged dough rounds, jarred sauce, and shredded cheese. Set out all the components, and let each attendee create his or her own pizza. This method also works well for building ice cream sundaes and banana splits, too.

Mock cocktails. Donât think of this as encouraging drinking behavior as much as a way to establish an understanding of how flavors mix and match. Set up a station of different juices, syrups, mixers
, and garnishes, along with fancy glasses, and a list of mocktails to try. Rule number one: no matter how âucky,â if you mixed it, you drink it!

What are your practical tips to save money for a single guy who lives alone and has a regualar job?

travelnook

In my blog http://travelnooks.wordpress.com/, I've posted some tips that have worked for me regarding saving money? Any more practical tips for me? Thanks in advance guys :)

Answer
When I first started doing our budget, I found we were spending lots of money on food. Eating out, snacks from the gas station, prepackaged snacks, vending machines... Now we save by planning a menu, buying bulk, buying the "big bag", and splitting things into portions in Ziploc bags. We always bring our lunch to work with us, cause we feel like if we are going to spend the extra money to go out to eat, we want to go out on a date.

Also, just writing out the budget and tracking our expenditures seems to help. My husband and I both hate to see that at the end of the month we went way over in any given category.

Answer
YOW !! Rob nailed it... he knows.... hehehehe

Also.. sad to say it... Commerical Pilot according to the surveys for the last 20 years is the 2nd dealiest occupation. #1 was lumberjack, but it has fallen to #3 with Commerical fisherman #1, and Fire/Police #4. You will lose friends. Simple as that.

I will second all Rob said and add:

I moved 43 times in 40 years

commuting is hell on Earth. Some guys have the stomach for it.. I never did. You get 3 days off... you spend 1 getting home, 1 day there, and 1 getting back. The entire time I was off.. I was looking at my watch. What happens if you don't get back on time for your next trip?? Well.. depending on where you work... if there is no back up... you're fired. See ya, wouldn't want to BE ya... If you work for a company with Reserve pilots.. you get to go stand before the CP, Base Mgr. etc.. and get roasted for it. Second time maybe a formal reprimand.. but just as with baseball... you are not going to get more than 3 swings at it.

One of the worst things was LOUSY FOOD, you get in at terrible hours, nothing is open Junk in theBox, WaffleHouse, all the stinking Donut places... and Oh GOD.. the worst.. Denny's... and that's if you are lucky... and domestic. International... OH BABY.... You get in the Middle East, you are going to be introduced to all kinds of new sensations, and reaquainted with a few old ones... I never thought a #6 hoagie from the Flt Kitchen would look SO good.. and GOD BLESS that wonderful Grannie that would sneak a cookie or a cupcake in your lunch when you were out over the Atlantic and you reached down and pulled out that little bag you stuffed in and found it in there.... she was at Barksdale AFB and she brought a lot of happiness to a lot of guys on long missions.

You are going to make decisions that affect peoples lives... you are going to be tested every 6 months.. with not your JOB on the line.... your CAREER is on the line every 6 months... every route check, everytime you have a check airman flying the line with you, everytime a Fed drops in (Hi, I am with the FAA and I am here to help you) and wants to go for a ride... because if you screw one of those up... you not only lose your job , but who is going to hire you after that? Then you will go to the Flt Surgeon and get your medical every 6 months... and you know what happens if you have a problem there.... and when you make Captain, and you get the big bucks.. and you have Joe Dingdong the new hire in the right seat... anything goes wrong... it's YOUR fault, and you get the blame because you are PIC. Oh.. and if you can't wait for the time when you are in the bar.. and some hot cutie slides up and says... "So.. what do you do for a living?" and you puff up your chest and say... "I'm a JET PILOT baby..." get ready for:

OH! so you are out screwing everything you can find huh?
How many flight attendants have divorced YOU?
Bet you have a girl in every town... SEE YA
Oh GOD'S gift to women because you are a pilot huh?
Now there's a line I haven't heard in a while... sure....

and my favorite...

Oh really? who do you fly for? I am a 777 Captain for American

Where in Thailand should i travel to?

Alias23

I'm looking for a place that is close to the beach, nature and is a place that is not to crowded. However, i also want the possibility to go party, shopping and experience the city life. This means in other words that i need to have the possibilty to do preferably everything within a short distance of where i live.

If you have been to Thailand and can share some of that experience, that is also verry welcome.

Answer
Everyone goes to Patong (in Phuket). If you're trying to avoid a beach full of tourists, skip it. I don't recommend it anyway. It's super dirty and soooooo expensive compared to the rest of Thailand.

Go to the Phi Phi Islands!!! The fish and coral that you'll see while snorkeling are breathtaking! You can go shark watching, cliff jumping, shopping, exploring â thereâs plenty to do! The âtoursâ are surprisingly good and only cost about 500 baht ($14.28 usd).

You have to go to Chiang Mai, (in Northern Thailand) itâs absolutely lovely. Itâs the second largest city and considered to be the âcultural capital.â Thereâs great night and weekend markets and the people are much friendlier than anywhere else that Iâve seen in Thailand. Visit the Tiger Zoo, itâs expensive but worth it! AND, do the Jungle Flight (zip-lining through an old-growth forest)!!! Itâs beyond amazing and donât worry, itâs very safe! For Jungle Flight, book your tickets at a travel agency in Chiang Mai (theyâre EVERYWHERE) rather than booking online. Itâs surprisingly much cheaper because you can negotiate the price. If you decide to go to Chiang Mai, Iâd suggest using Airasia.com â you can get a one-way flight from BKK to Chiang Mai for only $28.usd (plus the cost of your bags). It's sooooo worth it! :) Skip Phuket, go to Chiang Mai!!!!

I know you're trying to avoid tourist spots, but Bangkok and Pattaya are pretty fun. Theyâre crazy and wild and probably the best people-watching Iâve ever seen! You can get a taxi from BKK airport to your hotel in Pattaya for 800-1,000 baht â DONâT PAY MORE. Itâs a 1.5 hour-2 hour drive.

Again, Iâd stear clear of dirty, nasty Phuket. I was there for four months and detested it :) If you do go, be very cautious of scams. Never pay âparking attendants,â only give tuk tuk drivers about 1/10 of their asking price, and donât leave anything valuable in your hotel room - seriously.

Budget:
Lunch or Dinner: 60 baht ($1.71 usd) ...can definitely find cheaper
Nice hotel room with Airconditioning: 525 baht ($15.usd)

While you're in Thailand, it's very cheap to travel around the rest of SE Asia. You should maybe consider taking a bus (time consuming but very, very cheap - $10.-$20.) to Cambodia to see Angkor Wat (beyond amazing) or to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam!! I swear, it's definitely worth your time and I think they're actually more interesting than most of Thailand. :)

Have a great (and safe) trip!!!

I know your probably wondering whats going on. Am I alive or dead. Well, tecnally, both. Alive in the fact my body is working. My heart still beats, my brain still functions, just at a rate that most medical devices can't pick up. That's why I'm in a mourg. Dead, in the sense, I don't exist. You will never hear my name out of this book. You will never here this story anywhere else. If you did, you''d probably end up dead very soon after. Even now I'm putting you at risk. Everything I'm telling you is confidential. The people who are above me said I'm never to tell anyone. So make sure you spread this story. Mabey with enough people we can stop it. Back to reality.

I slowly got of my table, didn't want to breake any bones.....again. It didn't take me very long to find my bag. It was an old one. One strap made for over you shoulder, lots of pockets, and Army camo. I loved it. I dug through it till I found my cleanest set of cloths and through them on. I made sure my knife and other essentials were in there. After I strapped on my boots, (they went so well with my cargo pants and ti-di teashirt. ) I started to make my way to the door. THen I heard it. Deep from somewhere deep inside my head, a voice. No, THE voice.

Destroy them. You can do it. Just concentrate, them BOOM. Just do it!

I shook my head fratnicall. Don't listen. Don't listen. DON"T LISTEN. I ran out the door, not even bothering to look out for the security camera's. I didn't care. I ran down a long, narrow hall. It was well lit, but obviously not used much anymore. It took all my will power not to scream. I finally saw the door. The light from beind it gleamed like the light at the end of the tunnle was suposed to. It was pretty much singing in my ears. A triumphant sound of fresh air. I ran faster. I burst through the door, and collapsed on the spot. The air felt good. Clean. I knew there were people around me. I could feel there eyes staring at me as I lay in the fetal position on the hard concrete. Someone came up to me and started to shake me. My head felt like it was about to expload. This is idiot was just shaking a timb bomb. Great.

"Kid! Kid! Are you alright? Kid!"

"Just relax honey, you'll be find"

"Someone call 911! NOW!"

There were at three people now, standing right over me. The pain started to dim and I opend my eyes. Woah. More like ten people. Must have been lunch breake. Somewhere in the mix of all the voices I heard whispers.

I'm telling you, she looks just like that dead girl we found.

Wonderfull People recognized me. Happy Happy, Freaken Joy, Joy. I knew if I didn't leave soon, I would have a much bigger mess on my hands. I jumped up and took off. They started to chase me, but I was much quicker. They had no chance. Soon I left them behind and was wondering through the bussy stretes of New York.

does that help explain. Still open to critisim. I KNOW, I CNA"T SPELL. I don't have spell check on this computer. so sory ya'll

Answer
I loved your beginning, but this section left me feeling a little confused. How did that camouflage gear get into a morgue? Usually personal belongings are catalogued & put into a locked cabinet. She could look frantically & discover someone forgot to snap the padlock. I think it would be more interesting if she could have wrapped the white sheet that had covered her, toga-style, & put on a long lab coat. Visualize that for a moment & then begin to imagine the reactions of the onlookers.

You have a dry sense of humor so continue to use it. e.g. when she's trying to get off the table have her move side to side until she gets momentum to sit up & slide off. She could joke that rigor is all that it's cracked up to be.

i liked your last paragraph. Personally I would add after quicker this sentence: Wow! just the smell of formaldehyde is better than a shot of adrenalin.

I swear if I could contact you I'd buy you a dictionary. At least when you finish a passage or for the day, go back & correct spelling errors. The ones you can't, use the dictionary.

Q. I need a play/ skit for our Thanksgiving program. If anyone have any great ideas where I can find them, please let me know. Thanks!

Answer
How about The Ugly Turkey (a short play)

SETUP

This play can be shortened or lengthened to suit the needs and skill levels of the children participating. Props can be simple puppets made from lunch bags or more complex marionettes. Use a large cardboard box for the backdrop. Paint, or draw with crayons, rolling hills, trees, a farm house and fence.

SCRIPT

Narrator: There were once five turkeys, all born on the same day, but one turkey was not quite like the others.

Turkey #1: "Isn't it a beautiful morning? It is GREAT to be a Turkey today!"

Turkey #2: (Strutting around) "I am so proud to be a Turkey, don't you think we are beautiful?"

Turkey #3: "I think we are the most handsome creatures on earth!"

Turkey #4: "The four of us are definitely gorgeous to behold, but what happened to you (speaking to the Ugly Turkey)? You do not look like the rest of us, you are not as beautiful as we are."

The Ugly Turkey: "It is true I do not look like you, but won't you be my friend anyway? Are looks all that is important? I am a good friend, a good listener, and I would help any of you if you were in need."

Turkey #1: "Honestly, I don't think I want to be friends with someone who is so different from myself."

Turkey #2: "Yeah, you aren't cool like the rest of us."

Turkey #3: "We don't want to play with you."

Turkey #4: "Go away."

The Ugly Turkey: "I am sad that you will not be my friend. I will go away, surely there is someone who will like me for who I am and not what I look like."

Narrator: So The Ugly Turkey turned and walked away. He wandered over the hill and through the trees and the four Turkeys thought nothing of it. As time passed the four Turkeys grew bigger and fatter! They grew and grew until they were so round they could hardly walk. They were not quite so cute as they were when they were little. When the farmers grandchildren came to visit they would stop to look at the horses, the cows, the puppies and kittens. They would giggle as the ducks waddled by and squeal with delight as the sheep scampered over the hills, but when they saw the Turkeys they just kept walking, some even looked a bit scared. Then one day a strange animal showed up on the farm.

Turkey #1: "Who's that strange bird over there on the hill, does anyone know?"

Turkey #2: "He's beautiful isn't he? Look at his tail feathers, they're rich in color and intricately patterned."

Turkey #3: "Did you see the plume atop his head, like a crown of glory? He stands tall and perfectly trim."

Turkey #4: "Do you think he will want to be our friend, we are not near so grand as he is?"

Turkey #2: "Let's go introduce ourselves and see if he will join us."

Narrator: As the four Turkeys approached the beautiful bird on the hill they noticed that the bird looked familiar.

Turkey #1: "Hello. We were wondering if you would like to join us? You are so beautiful we would be honored to have you for a friend."

The Ugly Turkey: "Do I not look familiar to you? Once I tried to be your friend but you all rejected me saying I was ugly and different."

Turkey #3: "I remember. That was so long ago. You are definitely not ugly now! You are the most magnificent bird on this farm."

Turkey #4: (With head hung low) "If you do not want to be our friend we understand, we are not nearly so grand as we thought we once were."

(The four Turkeys turn to walk away)

Turkey #5: "We do not want to embarrass you, we will go away."

The Ugly Turkey: "Please don't go. Have you not learned anything while I was away? It is not what you look like on the outside that matters but what you are on the inside that is important. I would be happy to be your friend."

Narrator: So the four Turkeys and the Peacock took a stroll over the hill and through the trees. They were often all seen together strolling about. When the farmers grandchildren would visit they would often stop by the five birds, talking excitedly. The four Turkeys knew that that the children were looking at the beautiful Peacock, but it didn't matter. It didn't matter because they were all friends and they were all equal.

(All participants say, "THE END" in unison and take a bow)

What techniques do you use in the morning to get the kids ready for school?

Pixie

Every morning seems to be a mad rush around this house, any tips you might have on streamlining this chaotic time will be much appreciated. Dressing, lunches, backpacks, breakfast, homework, grooming etc. Please help! I am one desperate mom!

Answer
It depends on your kids. I am 13 so i'm a teenager. I don't know if all teens feel this way but as a teenager I like to either fail or succeed on my own. I know that so isn't what you wanted to hear and it drives my mum mad too. and I think alot of teens me included just want to feel like an individual, more independant we just want to see how far we can get on our own without the help of parents. I know what your thinking, thirteen's far to young to be testing those boundaries. But if you do have a young teenager give them a chance. They'll either surprise you or run back to you begging you to help them organize themselves in the morning again and admitting hole-heartedly that they still need your help. If there failing but they still insist upon doing it all themselves... well... sink or swim I suppose. Teens can sometimes be stubbourn. Kids 15 years and older need to be given the opportunity to get out of the house on there own because in a few more years they will be living on there own or will be driving themselves to school and university. So they of coarse need to know how to get out of the house on time. Children until they reach about ten will respond to a simple reward system. If they can make to the end of the week without stressing you out too much reward them with money. Or maybe after about a month you could get them take out food. But don't try this with younger kids because a monh won't make sense to them and if it does it will probably just mean a really, really, really long time. Make sure you do a chart for them to loom at. But keep it out of there reach so they can't change it as my siblings and I used to do so very often.10, 11, and 12 year olds vary a bit, I'd start treating them as teens about the time it becaomes aparent they want to be treated like adults. For me I started noticing girls towards the end of grade 5 but I only started wanting to feel more indipendent when I wasa about 12. I know that is young but theres no guarenetee your kids will start puberty that young. Infact some don't even start until after highschool (rare). But before they reach puberty just treat them like kids and keep them going on the chart system. Just remember you can put more on that chart system then just getting ready for school on time. My Mum is quite lenient. All she wants us to do is put our dirty cloths in the laundry unpack our lunch boxes in the afternoon and pack our bags in the morning. In our house every friday night we have pizza and soft-drink. So she threatened to take these things away if we couldn't do the jobs she wanted us to, it worked very well. Remember it is far more effective to take away priviledges then to add them. Because the privlidges you already have yove gotten used to. For example lets say maybe cars were never invented you wouldn't exacltly jump at the idea of getting one because you've already got your horse to ride around on. Cars would seem like an unneccissary luxury. But If you had your car taken away now thats a different story! Sorry about the lenghth but we children are very diverse and complicated. This technique may not even work on your kids the same way it did with us but even if it doesn't don't be afaraid to spread it around because it certainly worked on us!

good diaper bag for multiple kids?

Jo

I am pregnant with number three and due in a couple of weeks. I am in need of a diaper bag thats large enough to carry things for 3 kids under 5 yrs of age. Durable, stylish and as I said large.
I am looking to spend NO MORE than 75 dollars on it.
If you have ANY suggestions please let me know! Thanks!

Answer
When I had two in diapers I didn't get a diaper bag at all. I got a Satchel bag the kind ppl carry computers in. It was rectangular and fit the diaper and bottle carrying bag easily it also had several pockets for all my mommy needs. It had an adjustable strap so i could wear it on my shoulder so i could hold the car seat in one hand and my toddlers hand. It was cheaper then any large diaper bag I could find about 25 bucks at target and more adult/ stylish. I used it as my purse and baby bag so when I wasn't with the kids I didn't look like I was carrying around a child's bag. It also was very easy to wash. Also i used a generic insulated lunch sack for bottles that was about $4.00 rather then the very over priced bottle carries. Good luck and congrats.

Phil R

Going to Canada for the weekend and i'm on a "clean" diet so I made all my meals and whatnot ahead of time, only deal is we're leaving ~8 am and not going to check into the hotel til around 1 or 2 pm. How long could food stay cold in a cooler with a bag of ice, it souds dumb but would i have to replace the ice and drain the water halfway there or would one or two initial bags of ice be fine?

Answer
really if your worried for 5-6 hours, you wont need much... take any normal insulated cooler even a lunch box... freeze some water bottles or bring ice packs... keep it out of the sun while in the vehicle if possible... if not good enough... i had taken a camping trip in late june and kept a cooler for when we got back to our vehicle so we would have cold drinks... we were away from the vehicle for 6 days and we had a ccrappyold cooler... filled with ice and also wrapped with old sleeping bags... we had some days 80 degrees... but when we came back... we had alot of ice left and very cold drinks... i wouldn'tworry to much... just keep it generally cool

How do you bring lunch in high school?

Matt L

I'm a freshman in ontario, canada. school starts tomorrow. i've only been attending a private school my whole life but i'm going to a public high school so i don't know what the differences are. for lunch, up until now, EVERYONE carried this lunch bag at my privaet school:
http://goshopping.thestar.com/shop/product--catId_1002903__locale_en__catCrumbIds_1002463-1002903__productId_8209656.html

which their parents packed.. now i'm going to a public high school so i have no idea how the other kids pack.

so MY QUESTION: how do kids pack their lunches in canadian PUBLIC high schools? like in a plastic bag, a brown paper bag, or just the insulated bags i showed you?? or do most kids just buy their lunches from the school cafeteria? how do kids eat on the first day of high school??
so would it be okay to bring a lunch bag like above or would people think i'm a little kid or something?

Answer
Well, at my school, most kids buy...but of the few that do pack (that I've noticed), they use plastic bags and just throw them away when done.

Do you reccomend taking 1 year old for vaction to Mexico for 7 days?

Mommy of 2

We are going for vaction to Cancun Mexico, middle of december 2009 and we already ordered tickets with hotel for us and our 14 month old daughter. Now, we are still deciding if we should take her. For people who took their 1 year olds for vacation, can you tell me how hard it would be? It's a 3 and half hour flight (direct flight), we are staying for 7 days. How hard was it to adjust to the hotel room, ect. Please give me any tips you have. (Time difference is 1 hour, not too bad) If it's a good idea to take her, will she have fun or will it be too hard for her and for us... What you do reccomend taking for her?
Thanks so much.
It's me my hubby going and 4 other couples :)

Answer
We took our 10month old to Mexico with us it was totally safe and pretty fun we went last apr at the hype of swine flu! None of us got anything.

We also went to Cancun; we live in Michigan so it was about 3 and half hour flight. Just make sure to bring snacks for your child in case your flight is delayed because in flight they donât really have toddler friendly snacks.

We spend most of our time in the pools just be sure to bring the sun screen because you will need it. we used water babies and it was get he never burned he was all pasty looking and most of the people asked what we were using cause they got burnt!

Bring a floaty with you that you can blow up while there. We use one of those spring floats that he just sat in and he loved it. I was at the swim up bar with baby in tow.

There is a wal mart in downtown Cancun if you need to stop and get supplies like diapers, meals, cereals, wipes, etc. I didnât pack any of that because you get charge so much for bags and over weight limits from the airlines and walmart there sells everything. We rented a car down there and it was really cheap but you can also rent a cab too. Remember to pack your Car seat because cabs down there donât have those things. You can gate check the car seat and stroller for no additional cost to you; unlike your luggage.

Things to pack, motrin, Tylenol, sippy cup/bottles, diapers/wipes while in flight, snack foods, milk/formula, jars of food/Gerber Graduates pick upâs (if needed), stroller, car seat, blanket, clothes, float for the pool, sun screen, toys, etc. . .

The airlines will allow you to pack any amount (with in reason) of liquids or solids for the child in your carry-on diaper bag. The only thing I recommend is if you use formula pre mix it or use the liquid kind because they donât like for you to bring bottle water thru the checkpoints; however, you can purchase it once past if you need water. I just used (4) small 6oz Medela bottles and used an ice pack to keep cold in a small insulated lunch bag unless we got then and then wet to walmart to get what I need. They sell everything there that we have here just all in Spanish. Expect to pay pretty much the same amount as here for diapers. If you get them at the resort expect to pay lot.

Some of the resorts offer shuttle services to walmart so because to ask.

Luggage: I used a small carry on size suitcase for his clothes that way I didnât pay the extra amount for another bag of checked luggage and a large diaper bag. Strollers and car seats can be gate checked so there is NO fee for bring those.

We took a few day trips to Xcaret. That was really fun; however, it was soooo hot. Remember to pack some biodegradable sunscreen for that place or you can purchase it there for $$$$. We used our stroller there; however, it was so hot and he was sweaty we were only there a few hours. So if she can walk I would recommend that with a leash because there are uneven walkways n cliffs or the use of a backpack.

Toddlers and babies usually eat free off your plate at most of the on resort restaurants.
Remember to call the resort to reserve a crib which they all pretty much offer for free. Just pack a sheet if you like.
I packed two small toys; I packed his vtech laptop and a rolly ball.

We also went in to the gulf and he loved it the resort we went too had a play center for kid too! We were at the Royal sands

If you are staying at any of the larger resorts you can be sure to drink the water it is all purified and taste pretty close to home. The only time I would not drink the water or ice is if you are going to a small restaurant out side the city but you can always ask if there water is purified. My husband, son and I didnât have any diarrhea or stomach issues.

What can 5-10 year olds make safely in their own home?

What crafty things can children make in their own homes with the stuff they have already or dont cost must in the local shops?

Answer
Kids that age tend to like to be creative. Pipe cleaners and pompoms or cotton balls are great for stirring up the imagination. You can use them to make animals, snowmen, etc. Just use a little white elmer's glue and some googly eyes, and do it with them, and they will have fun. They also like to glue and tape things, so you can make chains of looped paper with them to put on the Christmas tree (or just enough that if they rip one every day they will be counting to Christmas. They also like paper bag puppets. Just get some brown (or other color) lunch bags and construction paper. Let them cut out eyes, noses, mouths, faces, etc. Then make the mouth under the flappy look like it is open with a tongue. You could also try sock puppets with old mismatched socks, craft glue, and markers...just put a rubber band around the sock between the thumb and fingers and the rest is fun and easy. They can make and color little books they make, water paints (those were sooo fun when I was little), or finger paints. They also like play dough or clay.

Pretty much if you are interested in it and make it fun, and they are crafty kids, they will enjoy it.

How can I help my cat loose weight?

SiLeNce th

My cat has fat on his belly and I want him to loose weight... How many times a day should I feed him? How long should I play with him so he can get in exercise. He is only 5 years old. I also try to keep him on a diet but he constantly slams the kitchen door at night for food. How can I help him? I

Answer
First is a caution: Weight loss in cats has to be a slow and patient process. Crash diets are dangerous for cats, as they can damage the cat's liver and lead to a life-threatening liver disease especially if the cat is quite overweight. Look up the term "hepatic lipidosis in cats" for more information. So take it easy and be patient.

Two things will help your cat lose weight: fewer calories, and more activity.

The fewer-calories can be as simple as feeding only at specific mealtimes instead of leaving food out all day and night (fresh water MUST be available at all times). Put the food down for about an hour, let your cat eat at leisure for that hour-- then pull the bowl up until the next meal. Adult cats and kittens over 9 months of age can eat twice a day.

Next, choose a reduced-calorie "light" food and gradually switch your cat over to it. Be sure to choose good-quality food, not the "budget crap" you find at the big-box stores. You may pay more per bag at first, but a more nutrient-dense food made with quality ingredients will be more satisfying and actually cost less per serving than junk food with less nutrition value. Many cat foods have higher levels of fiber. These are good to help your cat to deal with hairballs, and they also make your cat feel fuller after eating, and they help the GI tract. Start with 1/4 of the new food and 3/4 old food for a few days, then 1/2 old to 1/2 new for a few days, then 3/4 new to 3/4 old for a few more days, then you can feed the new food exclusively. Cut out any human treats or cat snacks. If that's not possible, then BE sure to count those snacks in his daily calorie ration. Just like that extra Coke or that second cookie you have at lunch, those treats add up. Commonly, people trade food for physical attention. When we ask the owners of overweight pets, "Why do you feed treats?" clients usually reply, "Because I love my pet." Certainly that's true and we never want to tell people not to love or reward their pets, but we remind people that often the pet simply wants our attention and playtime. I'm guilty of this as anyone. Sometimes it's easier to hand our kids or our pets a cookie and send them off. But it's really more fun to play with them while they amaze us with feats of physical prowess... even if it does take a few minutes out of our busy day.

When deciding how much to feed, look at the feeding instructions on the bag or can. Feed the amount recommended for your cat's TARGET weight, not the current weight. These are just starting points. You may need to feed more or less to maintain that target weight, depending on your cat's metabolism, activity levels, etc.

Of course, activity will help the weight come off quicker and help increse your cat's overall body condition and muscle tone. Sometimes, it's hard to get a cat to play. Try different kinds of toys-- small crinkly balls that he can chase and bat about; feather wands; a long piece of leather thong tied to your ankle and allowed to trail behind you as you walk may encourage your cat to follow it around; a laser pointer is a blast for many cats (just keep the direct light away from your cat's eyes); even a crumpled up piece of paper can be a fun toy.

Thing is, many times toys get lost under the sofa or the bed and the cat blows it off. Try tossing a few ping-pong balls or plastic Easter eggs into a dry shower stall with the door left open just enough to let the cat go in and out, and let the cat bat them about as if he's in a handball or raquetball court. A lot of cats love the sounds and will spend lots of time swatting the toys about in the shower stall and the fun can last longer if the toys don't keep getting lost.

The length of the play sessions isn't that important as long as you play every day. Not only will your cat's health benefit from daily play sessions, but you will improve "The Bond" that you share with your pet. Even five minutes morning and evening will be beneficial. Also, to a cat, your play sessions simulate a hunting session. Try playing first, then offer his meal. I'd bet that your cat plays hard, then eats, then soon goes to sleep. This mimics a cat's natural way of doing things. He hunts, he catches his meal, he eats it, then he's satisfied and goes to sleep. Thus, you can try having the evening play/meal session shortly before YOU go to bed at night. This might stop the nighttime begging and door banging. He may continue for a while longer but if you know that he isn't hungry because you fed him, then grit your teeth and ignore it. Sure, he'll get more insistent at first, but eventually he'll quit if the behavior doesn't get any reward (food or attention).

Hope that helps.

How do you pack a bagel with cream cheese in a preschoolers lunch if the lunch bag is not refrigerated?

My son's preschool has him keeps his lunch bag in his personal cubby and doesn't heat up food. Any hot foods are put in a thermos.
I would like to send him 2 mini bagels with cream cheese for lunch.
We leave at 8:30am and he eats at 12.
Do I send it cold? Warm, wrapped in foil?
I don't want the cream cheese to go bad, nor can I send it separately... Thoughts?

Answer
the cream cheese won't spoil in that length of time.
In fact, warmed like that will make it easier to spread.
you have a 4 hour window for food to be in the "danger zone" which is above 40 degrees and below 140 degrees. After that time the food should be discarded.
This is food service guidelines.
That means that it is still edible at the end of the 4 hours. It does not magically spoil at 4 hours 1 minute. It is still safe to use but don't stretch it too much after that.
cheeses are meant to be served at room temp and cheese sits out all the time at wine and cheese tastings and other big fancy meals. They don't do any of those functions in a fridge.
Your time table is fine.

What are your reviews on the Packit lunch bag?

I've seen the infomercial countless times advertising the Packit freezable lunch bag that keeps food cool up to 10 hours. Anyone have one of these and what are your thoughts on it?
Thanks!

Answer
They work about the same as any other freezer pack. It depends on the temperature where you leave your lunch.

What kind of lunches could a 23- year old diabetic pack for work?

He loves Chinese so this would be a plus.

Answer
I find most Chinese food is bad for my sugar levels. The rice, fried and breaded items and the very sweet sauces. I take salads I make them in a large food storage bag which will fit nicely with some fruit, yogurt and water along with a small tupperware container with dressing into my insulated lunch bag. Then separately I take a bowl and fork. Low carb breads are great for sandwiches with a piece of fresh fruit. In cooler months some vegetable soup in a thermos. Best of Luck.

How can I lose 16 kilograms in 47 days?

Delia P

okay so since I moved to a new city I started gaining weight. Not a lot but i was already in the proccess of getting where I wanted to be before. So now to get to my target I want to lose 16 kilos in 47 days please help me.
I don't want any pills though.

Answer
Here's what I suggested to another Yahoo Asker:

Question
How to lose some weight and eat healthy at work..?

Your Answer:
Healthy, portable meals: that's the trick. You can learn about healthy
eating, and this is a life-long process, but it's more difficult to put all
that knowledge to work for you when you don't have much time for
food preparation. Or you only want small meals for just yourself.

Try this: Prepare a large batch of really good stew or soup or veggies
one day.. Have some of it right away while it is still warm and yummy.
Now get some of those little fridge boxes with lids, and put away as
many portions as you want into your freezer, and leave a couple in
the fridge to take for lunch or have at tomorrow's supper.

You can't find out all the ingredients in restaurant-prepared food; usually
they can't figure it out, either. There's margarine/ trans-fat/ partially hydro-
genated oil; MSG; textured veg. protein; corn syrup; white vinegar. Then
there are a few other ingredients you might choose to eliminate from your
diet, either because they give you gas (nobody ELSE has this trouble,
you may think) or perhaps you have learned some new trick.

Get an insulated lunch bag/box, and buy a couple of those blue ice
blocks. They come in several sizes, so get a size that will fit in your
lunch box along with 1 or 2 food containers and a couple baggies.

Cut some veggies into your favorite size, like you see at parties.
Cukes, celery, romaine lettuce; then there are those grape tomatoes
in bulk at Costco. You can store them separately in quart-size zip-
up plastic bags in the fridge. They don't take up too much space
that way. For your lunch box, divide out enough to eat for lunch
and one of your short work breaks. You can mix the veggies in
a sandwich baggie.

Cut up some fruit: apple slices, pear, banana, grapes, berries,
and then there are dried fruits you can get in bulk form: raisins,
apricots, prunes, cherries. Frozen fruits are fun, too.

I have to mention nuts and seeds. Raw nuts are not so
delicious that you want to eat all there is of it. You're satisfied
with maybe a handful. Granola is a good snack, not too much,
because it has enough carbs to make you gain weight, or it
might generate lots of gas.

Stop drinking sodas. Why? The carbonic acid leaches minerals
from your teeth and bones. Corn syrup is getting a really bad
rap. Sugar has no minerals; it actually pulls minerals out of
your body; then it causes your body to store fat; then you may
have the issue of Type 2 Diabetes. A friend of mine was losing
his eyesight. The MD challenged him to just make one change:
eliminate sodas with sugar. He switched to diet sodas. No
more problem. But I recommend you read up on Aspartame
and Splenda sweeteners. If you quit ALL sodas, you will be
way ahead on your Health Plan.

Avoid chlorinated and fluoridated tap water for drinking. Bring
your own bottled water. If you have filtered water at work
or the 5 gallon water dispenser, use that. A lot. Make your own
tea at home; look up recipes for something special, like chai tea
online. Sweeten it with Stevia extract (sweet leaf). We get that
at Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Sprouts, Sunflower markets; it's a
powder in a bulk bottle or paper envelope portions. Taste it first:
one type has a metallic after-taste, so don't waste your money
on that.

Check out Dr. Oz' website for inspiration and the result of lots
of research made practical. Expand your awareness about health.
You asked for it, now do it, and then start to enjoy it.

how do you get something sold in the supermarket?

Nunyu B

I'm considering making a product like ready made lunches that are better than microwaved frozen food. How do I get it sold in the supermarket and is this a good business to get into or are the profits really bad

Answer
check with your local business and local markets - they may start selling it for you - cutting the middleman - but check out the background on Paula Deen from the foodnetwork. She started out with "The Bag Lady" lunches her kids sold door to door. You might get some pointers.

One thing to help with profits is to make sure you are buying wholesale and not full retail for any ingredients you buy. Also make sure to check out business licenses in your area, as well as the laws and regulations. Better do your homework before you buy all this and find out you can use any of it!

What should I know about sewing, as a beginner?

Little Red

I checked yahoo answers already, but the answer I saw said to ask sales staff about the sewing machines. Personally, I would like to hear about good machines from people who have been sewing for years and years, not a person who's just selling them. I'm sure they know about the machines, but I would like answers from people who've been doing it for a while.

I am just starting out. I would like to make little sun dresses for my daughter (She's 2 1/2, so they'll be simple, with ribbon straps, maybe some buttons). I would also like to make sun dresses, tops, and skirts for myself (The most complicated things I aim to do right now, is a corset top, bra and a bathing suit).

I'm super short but MEGA curvy, so shopping isn't always the easiest thing for me. A few other things I would like to learn to make are purses/bags, lunch bags for when she starts school, and other little fun things for her. I'm not really looking to do a whole lot of embroidering, but I do like having different stitching styles for when I'm doing hems. I've seen a few and I like those.

What I have been doing is hitting up the clearance bin at Jo-Ann's. They're usually about a yard's worth of fabric, maybe a little less sometimes. I figure that starting out with the sale stuff is much smarter than having expensive fabric cut. So I've got lots of different sizes and patterns.

So! My questions are:

What is a good machine to start with? I don't want to get some cheap thing from walmart that's going to break in a year. I'm okay with spending a few hundred on a machine, if it means it's going to do what I want (and then some for when I advance), and will last a few years at least.

What are your can't-live-without tools that you guys use when sewing clothing and bags?

Any tips and tricks that you've learned from experience that really work for you?

Favorite website to get free patterns?

Thank you for reading!! Have a wonderful day :)

Answer
For a new "don't break the bank" machine, I'd go with Janome or Juki, personally, but definitely suggest you try some machines out at various dealers, including used machines. A 15 year old friend just replaced her hunk o' junk new machine with an old Italian made Necchi for $100 -- the tradeoff she made is that she has to oil the machine (30 seconds) -- and it'll probably last her the next 30 or 40 years. See also: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AtVc8znRrlRdYqlm02KFETbty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20100423044254AAnGzFy&show=7#profile-info-OKJf8nHFaa Shopping hint: bad machines do not make good buttonholes.

Can't live without tools: a really good pair of scissors, blades as long as you can open them, almost all the way to the pivot point. I like Kai, as they're very light and sharp and well balanced in my hand, and the non-pro series is pretty inexpensive: http://www.kaiscissors.com/category.php?category_id=49 I'd suggest the N9250 or N5275 . If you're willing to mail them back to the Kai/Kershaw plant in Tualatin, OR, they'll sharpen them free. My other gotta have tool is a clapper and point presser, like this: http://sewtrue.com/Store/POINT-PRESSER-and-CLAPPER-P2302.html Watch for them at yard sales and thrift stores. And tailor's chalk for marking fabric, white only. Joann's will charge you an arm and a leg for it, but you can buy a whole box from a professional sewing store like Wawak for $6, and sell half of it to a couple of friends. Then you'll both have a lifetime supply! <g> In fact, consider asking for a Wawak catalog and spend some time with it... the prices are much better than you'll find in a fabric store for thread, sewing machine needles, zippers, buttons, etc. I buy Mara 100 thread there for my machines... about $2.50 for the same amount and quality of Gutermann thread Joann wants $8 for. And more colors.

Free clothing patterns are mostly worth what you pay for them. Have you found the KwikSew books yet? Your daughter is almost (but not quite) ready to go into the Sewing For Children book... it's a book with basic patterns, instructions on making the clothes, and instructions on changing the basic patterns into different designs -- sewing instruction book, patterns and basic pattern design all in one book. Highly recommended. http://kwiksew.mccall.com/books-pages-3505.php Trace the master patterns, don't cut them.

The major tool that I use for most of my sewing is one that I don't recommend for you yet -- a serger. But when you're out looking at sewing machines, if you find a really friendly salesperson, ask if they can give you a quick demo of what a serger can do.

The book or DVD I recommend for beginning sewing is Connie Crawford's Guide to Fashion Sewing (book) or her Studio Sewing Skills dvd. The book is relatively expensive new because it's a standard fashion school textbook, but it's very step by step, drawings and a few sentences, all the way through a process. It's what I reach for when I can't remember quite how something goes. The DVD is also step by step through all the major garment sewing processes, and starts with basics like threading a machine and sewing (and ripping out!) plain seams. As an experiment, I loaned my copy of Studio Sewing Skills to a couple of 9 year old cousins who had Grandma's treadle machine, and gave them a campshirt pattern to try, and they did a very credible job of their shirts -- I did put the buttonholes in for them as their machine couldn't. http://www.fashionpatterns.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5&products_id=67
