cool lunch bags for women image

midnight r

I started a new medicine today that I was told it will cause hot flashes until my body adjust to it. Even though I went through menopause 5-8 years ago, I have never had a hot flash. I want to know what to do when this happens? I want to know how long does a typical hot flash last? I get panicked over things easily, so I want to know what to expect and what I should do.

Answer
Hot flashes are as varied as there are individuals who have them. They can be as mild as facial flushing much like a hot blush to perspiration running down your forehead and dripping from your nose. Some hot flashes are so intense that you might have difficulty thinking.

The treatment, as with any burning is to cool off. This can be done by moving to a cool environment or using ice bags; the kind you freeze and put in lunch bags are good. I use to put them under my arm until the hot went away.

They can last from a few seconds to several minutes. Maybe you have nothing to worry about since you were not prone to have them before, you may not have them from this medicine. I wish you well. Hot flashes are the pitts.

What should I get my mom and dad for Christmas?

Q. My mom and dad have always gotten me really nice Christmas present so now I want to get them something really nice! I was thinking of getting my mom something from a coach outlet website that has really good deals so do you know of one that has good deals? And its hard to get something for my dad because he has like no hobbies!

Answer
How about any of these to think about. You don't have to any get of them as a gift, but it might give you ideas or something comes to mind. By the way all the lady and guy stuff are mix in there.

Can anyone tell me what brand this lunch bag is?

Hannah!

I was at Marshall's a couple of months ago and I saw this really cute insulated lunch bag. It looked like a purse and it was light blue with pink roses. It was insulated and it came with like 3 different-sized containers. It was so cute and at the time I wasn't sure if I wanted it but now I really REALLY want it. I don't know what it was called and of course Marshall's doesn't have it anymore. Does anyone know what brand it is?

Answer
No but here are some cute ones:

Will putting a laptop in a insulated bag hurt it?

Q. I bought a bag for my laptop and only after I bought it did I discover that it's insulated like a lunch bag or lunch cooler. Will carrying my laptop in this bag hurt it?

Answer
Not unless you leave the laptop on.

How long can you reuse a food container before bacteria or mold begins to grow?

do insulated lunch bags need ice packs on Zipper Cooking Picnic Insulated Ice Lunch Bag - Compare Prices and ...
do insulated lunch bags need ice packs image
Q. Is it harmful and could it cause tiredness and a stuffy head? The container typically has spinach and thousand island dressing in it and is reused for a couple or so days. It is stored in a small insulated lunch bag with an ice pack. If it is unhealthy, why? Is it okay to reuse a container such as one with a tomato and after a few days cut a new tomato and store it in the same container without washing it? The container has been refridgerated.

Answer
sorry but ewww. Why wouldn't you wash it after using it each time? Even just rinsing it in warm water.
I mean every time you take it out and it's not refrigirated it goes bad a bit and gets on the fresh food. Besides, food goes bad in a fridge eventually no matter what.

what is a good insulated lunch bag to bring to work everyday?

Sham Sham

Any tips and tricks for the year? How about stories about upper classmen? I know some of them in both schools though... My school is connected to another school. I'm in the all girls part, the other is boy and girls.
I have friends going to be in both schools. I love to sing, dance, and I make friends easily. I love sports too.
Anything I should know?

Answer
Supplies:
a binder for each class, with dividers.
an "everything" binder to always have with you (homework, schedule, planner, etc.)
a 3 whole punch that goes in your "everything" binder
loose notebook paper for all your binders (get lots 6+ packs)
a pencil bag with:
mechanical pencils & led,
colored pencils,
pens,
highlighters,
cheap spare pencils to loan out,
Post-it notes
WHITE OUT
GUM GUM GUM

Then anything your teachers say you need (so maybe a notebook or folder) but, if they just want a folder for the class, I'd still get a binder.

I also always color coded everything. Now, for each class get a different color. Color coding your stuff will be super helpful I promise. designate each class a color and get everything for that class in that color. (EX: Math is yellow-get a yellow binder and yellow notebook or whatever your teacher wants) For your "everything/first day" binder-get a cute patterned one. If you can make your pencil bag match because these are the 2 basic items you will always have. In your "everything" binder keep your schedule and agenda planner and homework, all important papers, etc. This is your take everywhere and don't let it out of your sight tool but is super nice because you won't have to take as much stuff home.

Locker stuff:
First, get some locker racks and organizing boxes. Leave room for books too! A magnetic mirror for the door, those magnetic cups for your locker door too.
Snack
Makeup
GUM
perfume
brush
Nail clippers
Duct tape
ribbon or string
Personal products
HAIR TIES (actually I'd keep that in your backpack)

Basic Tips:
Depending on where your locker is, don't go to it in between every class, it's not needed. Carry everything for 2 or 3 classes at a time. Don't be nervous-it's not as scary as you think it will be. Don't be afraid to ask questions. If you are lost ask a teacher or someone else. If your school lets you-go before school starts and walk your classes a few times and figure out the best routes. Get a map if the school has them and put it in your "everything binder". Maybe even type out and print a simplified version of your schedule because those can be confusing sometimes. Memorize your locker combination before the first day. Get a Jansport big student backpack- they are great!

First day- Well if it's like my school, you go in (if you don't ride the bus make sure you get there early) and if you need to go to your locker, do so. Then just go to your homeroom/advisory (if you don't have that then just your first class.) Listen to announcements. Usually the first day is where the teachers go over rules, expectations, homework policy, that stuff. Usually you don't even have a seating chart the first day. Then you go to your next class and so on and so fourth. Lunch will probably be the most difficult part of the day. Usually lunch is split up into different "shifts" high school and all of the grades are combined. So that girl in English you really liked, might not be eating at your lunch so finding someone to sit with could be hard. My advice on this is to find someone in your class before lunch who has the same lunch and walk with them because also being Freshmen, you have no clue where to sit! Just find an open table. I also highly suggest packing the first day to avoid the lunch line. It's really not bad after your first class, and once you tackle lunch you are good to go! It's really scary walking into the building and into your first class but once you get through it you'll laugh at yourself for being so nervous.

Freshman Tips:
#1 Don't stop or stand in the middle of the hallway or be loud and obnoxious.
#2 Be yourself! You will never make true friends unless you show them who you are!
#3 Don't be nervous. (Of course you'll be nervous but try not to show it!) It's not bad after 1st class.
#4 Be prepared emotionally. You will learn a lot about yourself and about others and start seeing people for what and who they are and will have to decide if that is what you want in your life.
#5 Make good, long lasting friends. They say you don't go in with the friends you come out with that is very true. They also say your friends will change often. That doesn't have to be true if you find the good ones to start.
#6 DON'T LET YOUR GRADES SLIP! Stay on top of things and always do your homework.
#7 Have fun. These are going to be the best years of your life so make them count.
#8 Don't let your "everything" binder out of your sight and USE IT!

Hope I helped! Best wishes love.

Best gift to buy my best friend who got her 1st teaching job?

make your own insulated lunch bag on My Sweet Muffin - Shinzi Katoh Mon Peluche Lunch Box Set
make your own insulated lunch bag image

V

My best friend is set to begin teaching high school Social Studies. This is her 1st teaching job and I want to buy her a congratulatory gift. I was thinking an engraved leather gradebook but I can't find one and a Google search suggests that most grades are kept online now. Any suggestions on gifts or where I can get a leather gradebook would be greatly appreciated!

Answer
Forget the leather gradebook, nice as it sounds. I would venture to say that the majority of schools today all use computerized gradebooks and lesson plan format, not paper.

Does she have her own classroom all day, or does she float to available rooms? What about a nice leather trimmed desk set, or at least the desk blotter for the top of her desk? I always had a cheap one supplied by the school and always wanted a nice one.

For many years, my school always had wonderful teacher lunches with at least five choices. The two years it really went downhill so many of us packed a lot more. What about a quality lunch kit with a nice, insulated bag and reusable containers? That could be a hit!

I had a quality cloth tote bag in a briefcase style (not college backpack). It had a big center storage and some small zip pockets. My sister-in-law had my name embroidered on it and it had some school motif embroideries, too. Used it for years and loved it. Had a strong carry strap as well as handles.

If you visit her at home, does she need anything for her home office? She may need a new bookcase for teacher manuals or home reference books. She will need some storage for home office supplies, a lot more than she would have had in college. Storage tubs? A home file?

Does wrapping a soda can in foil keep it cold?

Gizzy

I want to bring my own soda to school but by the time its lunch time its already warm and doesnt taste as good. Also the teachers are mean and wont let me use their mini fridges. So is there a little trick i can do to keep it cold as it was when i took it out of my refridgerator? I can store it in my locker if that helps

Answer
Purchase a small re-freezable ice pack and put it next to the soda in an insulated lunch bag.

When do large women (over) eat?

lunch bags for men uk on ... etc loves minimalist genius Jil Sanders paper bags | Life.Style.etc
lunch bags for men uk image

The Merovi

I've been on a date with some larger women. They tend to pick at their food and not consume much. I've seen huge women at work eating salads, cucumbers, cottage cheese in the lunch room. They don't become large or maintain a large size by eating salads, cottage cheese, or picking at their food. When do they eat?

If you think this is sexist, when I see large men eating in social environments or at the work lunch room, they eat hefty portions (and not salads). Thus, large food consumption leads to large men.

Answer
They probably eat in secret. Although my Mother is quite large and doesn't eat much. I should know because we hardly ever had food in the house and I was around her nearly all the time as a young kid. Unless she did something I didn't know about.

She enjoyed her beer, so that could have been it. But even before she began drinking a lot she was a UK size 16 (US 12) which isn't HUGE but it's not slim.

I think that she does genuinely have a crappy metabolic rate because I struggle to be as skinny as a lot of other girls and I have her genes, yet I eat around 1,500 cals a day roughly and I have to count it otherwise I do become overweight. I am a UK 10/12 (US 6/8) which is by all means not fat but most girls would be a bag of bones eating what I eat.

Travel suggestions for teens?

fippityfoo

We are four 18-year-olds who want to go to the UK and Ireland next summer. We don't want to spend a lot of money. What are suggestions about travel spots, hostels, eating out, airfare, etc? Anything is helpful, including websites. Thank you!
We are paying for all of this ourselves, not with "rich yuppie parents." Tips on being thrifty are especially appreciated.

Answer
Good for you! I lived in the Ireland and Scotland for a year and a half, living and traveling on a budget- you'll have a great time...

Travel spots/ideas: most British Isles cities are very walkable and I highly recommend just strolling around and seeing where your feet take you. Most museums are free. The Guinness brewery is hokey but fun. Kilmainham Prison in Dublin is poignant if you're at all interested in history. Newgrange- bus from Dublin. Rock of Cashel in County Tipperary. Emigration museum and St Colman's Cathedral in Cobh, County Cork. Traditional music sessions at An Spailpin Fanach on Main Street in Cork City. Boat trip out to the Aran Islands. Civil Rights museum in Derry. Giant's Causeway on Antrim coast (bus tours out of Belfast and Derry). Dingle Peninsula. Real Mary King's Close in Edinburgh (subterranean tour of historic Edinburgh conducted by period actors). Ghost Tours (including Greyfriars Cemetery where a section has been fenced and chained off by the government due to 'supernatural attacks'). Edinburgh Castle (I've always managed to go on free days, but probably worth the money, unlike the tower of london). Holyrood Park. Fudge shops on Edinburgh's Royal Mile :) Ceili dances at the University of Edinburgh's Pollock residence halls. Canterbury and Stonehenge are easy day trips out of London by train and bus, respectively. Long weekend trip to the highlands booked with Haggis Adventures on the Royal Mile was pretty good.

Accommodation: through hostelbookers.com and hostelworld.com you can book ahead for rooms from ultra-cheap dorm style to budget hotels with amenities. They rate properties for cleanliness, security, location, etc and many have maps. My recommendations: Marlborough Hostel and Abraham House in Dublin, Sleepzone in Galway, Derry City Independent Hostel in Derry, Budget Backpackers in Edinburgh. Kirary Guesthouse in Dingle - also organizes tours of the peninsula.

Check on railpasses. http://www.railpass.com/GContent/BRPE/Others-Rail_Travel_Guide#faq1 helps you decide which one is best. I mostly traveled by bus, however, which was cheaper and in some cases not much slower. And there are places in Ireland that the train doesn't go.

Eating out? I was generally too cheap for that :) go with picnic lunches and self catering if possible. Pub grub is the quintessential British Isles culinary experience... that and curry. The 'classic burger' at the Auld Hoose on Saint Leonards Street in Edinburgh will keep you full for a few days (and they have a great pub quiz on Tuesday nights). Drinking age in Ireland is 18.... I THINK it's the same in the UK. Again, my old local in Cork, an Spailpin Fanach is highly recommended as a drinking/ cultural activities location. In Cork city: see if the donut man is still there outside the Tesco grocery store on st Paul's street (bag of fresh donuts for a euro) and check out the English Market on Grand Parade.

Airfare: try budget carriers between Ireland and the UK. Ryanair is scary but I've been pretty pleased with Easyjet. To get there, try flying via Iceland.... was just looking up fares for my next trip over and the ticket via Reykjavik is a third of the cost as the direct flight.

Currently I have Playtex vent-air bottles, NUK bottle, and First years breast flow bottle, and avent bottles. I am wondering are these bottles safe or should I get rid of them.

Also what do the numbers on the bottom of the plastic containers actually mean? I see some with 1 and my daughters sippy cups which are playtex insulators have a 5 on the bottom and the gerber baby food plastic containers have 7 on them. Does the number on the bottom mean anything if so what?

Terry S

I'm wanting to make my son a lunch sack to take to Kindergarten with him, but can't seem to find the wipe-able insulating fabric for the inside. Any clues?

Thanks!

Answer
You are looking for insul-bright. It is with the interfacings.

You can also get it at Hobby Lobby and they have a 40% coupon this week. http://www.hobbylobby.com/weekly/weekly.cfm?page=2

Another source - http://www.nancysnotions.com/product/fabric/specialty/insul+bright.do

You need two layers of vinyl with the insul-bright in between the layers.

What to use instead of lunch box?

Jac

I am new to being vegan and need some help. What should i use instead of a lunch box or paper bag? I really want something reuseable but not a lunch box. Its not that i am embarrased to carry a lunchbox i just dont like how they look. At my school we are seated side by side so there is no room for a giant tray thing.Oh and please dont leave answers telling me about your hello kitty lunch box, thanks.

Answer
I'd recommend getting a neoprene lunchbox/bag. I put a link to a basic style, but you can find these almost anywhere now. They are well insulated, so they keep your food cold or warm, they're easy to carry, and they stretch, so you can hold quite a bit in there. And a lot of them even look like purses, so they're super stylish, and they come in MANY styles. The link I left below is a basic guide to the fabric & price. ENJOY :D

What is a good/healthy lunch for an athletic high school boy?

Pat M

He is determined to be a professional ballplayer (yes, I know the stat's of that happening) what can I do to help him nutritionally?

Current Lunch:

Turkey/Roast Beef/ or Peanut Butter Jelly Sandwich on wheat bread
Grapes or Apples (clementines when in season)
Chips or crackers
Cookies
cheese sticks

Obviously, I would love to cut out the chips and perhaps cookies could be replaced with something healhier.... would love suggestions!

Thanks!

Answer
Here is fure tips for eat a quick and healthy lunch for school boy, please see:
Stock up on lunch possibilities when you shop for groceries. Think simple -- a loaf of whole wheat bread and a jar of peanut butter; a package of corn tortillas, a can of black beans, and some fresh tomatoes; frozen veggie burgers, whole grain hamburger buns, and a jar of roasted sweet peppers. Throw together a few of your favorite ingredients, and see what happens!
On days when you buy a sandwich, go to a place that'll make one to order. Ask for turkey or roast beef, extra tomatoes and onions, and only a smidge of mayonnaise. Better yet, opt for mustard. Don't get tuna if it's mixed with lots of mayo. By skipping that eggy, oily spread, you'll cut back the fat and cholesterol significantly.
Prepare lunch items the night before right after dinner. This saves on clean-up time. Store food properly. In the morning pack foods in the lunch box.
Don't forget food safety. If refrigeration is not available, use insulated lunch boxes or bags with frozen ice or gel packs.

FoxxyMomma

How do you warm up bottles while you're on the go, like at the grandparents house or at the mall...

I plan on breastfeeding and pumping so I'm wondering how this all would work out.. do I have to keep the frozen breast milk frozen until it's time to warm it up and how do you warm it up? Should I buy a travel bottle warmer? [they don't have the best reviews online so I'm wondering from experienced mamas]

Answer
If you are breastfeeding AND pumping, you could just breastfeed while you're out to avoid this issue. If you are exclusively pumping, you can take refrigerated milk with you (most diaper bags now have insulated pockets where you can put cold milk with an ice pack, or use an insulated lunch box) and run it under hot tap water for a few minutes to warm it.

In Japan most women have a high branded wallet in their bag whenever they go shopping or having lunch, not like a purse or little case.
Does it stay the same for women in US?

I'm just curious if it has something different between here and us or not.

Answer
Most women have purse, either small, tote sizes, or cross body- with a wallet inside.

What are some good fundraising ideas for a small group of kids?

Lora

We are a church youth group planning on going to Oaxaca, Mexico to work on building a school. Its VERY important to us. We need to raise approx. 1000 per kid. If you have and ideas on fundraising events, or and businesses that may be willing to sponsor us. Please, let me know.

Answer
My son's French club raised $1,066 per student for a trip to Quebec City by selling 6-inch hoagies (subs) for $3.50 each. The sales were phenomenal. Nearly everyone asked was happy to purchase a sandwich. At $3.50, this was something affordable to all. On the day the sandwiches were to be distributed, the students gathered in the school cafeteria to make them assembly-line style, which took only 2-3 hours. This is one of the most successful fundraisers we have ever participated in.

Another popular fundraiser is a cookbook sale. Perhaps the women of your church could help in soliciting and gathering recipes, with an equal amount from total sales being deposited in each child's account. This would also work well for church bake sales, quilt raffles, rummage sales, spaghetti dinners, etc.

The members of a local church are often seen in front of our Walmart selling bags of various flavored Tootsie Rolls for $2 each. They do this each year, to fund trips to South America.

Another successful fundraiser in our area has been the ever-popular candy bar sales through a local candy maker. Ask at your school for the names of the candy salesmen they use. We also have a pizza shop that participates in $5 cheese pizza sales, as well as a convenience store that offers coupons for a sandwich, chips and drink for $5. As with the hoagie sales, these are enormously popular. Check with the pizza shops and convenience stores in your area to see if they offer similar fundraising opportunities.

Last but not least, a local public school teacher found her calling in Uganda, where she eventually settled to set up an orphanage. Through the generous donations of the students who deposited the change from their lunch money into a jar each day, an orphanage, clinic, and school were built and furnished in just over three years. Where there's a will...

It is my hope that you are able to utilize some of these ideas. Good luck to you and your group.

tweety gir

theres about 2000 or more kids in my new high school and i have the last lunch so not only does the food suck when i get there but im usually way back in the line because my previous class is so far away from the cafeteria and i dont have time to eat anything. i was thinking i could take my own lunch but i need some variety. the only thing i can really think of is a home made sub sandwich and i cant think of anything else to go with it(i dont really want chips), any other ideas for lunches? also does anyone know of a good type/brand of lunch box or something that can keep hot food hot and cold food cold?
oh, and can we be mature about this?

Answer
Sandwiches are the easiest, and there are about a million different varieties to make. Cold pasta is also really good for lunch. You can also take salads or soups, depending on the weather. Invest in a good thermos, they are soo handy for soup, hot chocolate, hot water, etc. Take a lot of veggies, they are good for you and its better to snack on them than chips or snack foods. Try dried fruits and trail mix. Load up on fresh fruits too. I use an insulated bag that keeps everything the proper temperature.

What's the minimum amount of stuff our family needs for a day trip?

Busy Barbi

Snacks/clothes/ gear/ etc and how old r your kids?

Answer
It depends on where you're going and what's there. We usually plan on eating out if it's just a day trip (when we go to one of our timeshares/condos or camping for a week, we buy groceries and cook more often), but even so, I pack a water bottle for my two and four year old (and one for mom and dad), pre-portioned bags of dried fruit, goldfish, crackers, etc. for snacking, and fruits like apples and bananas that are washed and in ziplock bags with napkins packed inside (then I can hand the kids the bag as we're driving along, they can eat, use the napkin and zip up the trash/peels/core inside the bag so it doesn't end up everywhere in the car. I always have an extra outfit for each child (that includes shoes - you never know when they won't be able to resist a good mud puddle or fall in a stream, even in an urban area, there's always a chance of water running somewhere). For in the car entertainment, the kids both have books, magnadoodles, magnetic faces books/colorforms, and electronic games (Leapfrog Tag).

In my trunk at all times, I carry a pair of footie pajamas and a pair of crocs for each child (it can be a second outfit to go home in, as it was when we were hiking and my son attempted to jump a mud puddle and face planted instead, or sleepwear when we took someone up on an invitation to visit and stayed too late), a blanket, a first aid kit (I've loaned bandaids out to many a stressed mommy at the park, but I also include children's tylenol, hydrocortizone, triple antibiotic lotion, and benadryl for my little allergic one) and sunblock, extra water bottles and a box of wheat thins (never know when I have to run one more errand and the kids get grumpy because their lunch is delayed), baby wipes (for cleaning whatever), an empty garbage bag (you never know when you'll need to have something to put dirty clothes in/slide down hills on/ect.), bubbles and sand toys. Since I no longer pack a stroller in the trunk, I use a trunk organizer to keep all the kid stuff together and it still leaves half the trunk in my little Mazda 3 for things that I'm actually transporting.

Answer
40 Quick Healthy Snacks
Low-fat Yogurt with fruit or a bit of granola on top.

Whole-wheat pretzels dipped in spicy mustard.

Rice cakes â Spread with natural peanut butter and top with banana slices or raisins.

Whole wheat cheese sandwich â Cut it in half for a smaller snack.

Turkey and cheese wrap made with a whole wheat tortilla â Skip the mayonnaise and fill it up with plenty of lettuce and tomatoes instead.

Fruit salad â Cut up a bunch of fresh fruit and drizzle it with a bit of lemon juice as a natural preservative. Keep the fruit handy in the fridge to make it easy to grab instead of chips or sweets.

Fresh fruit â Great portable fruit includes apples, pears, peaches and bananas.

Chicken salad wrap made with low-fat mayonnaise â Add sprouts, lettuce, grated carrots, and tomatoes for added nutrition.

Apple slices topped with low-fat cheese.

Celery sticks topped with cream cheese or peanut butter and raisins

Dried nuts and raisins mix â For added interest, include a few M&Ms for your kids and call it âTrail Mixâ. Low-sugar, dry cereal works well in this also.

Raw veggies â Goes great with low-fat ranch dip.

Salad (pack dressing separately) â Customize it with your favorite raw vegetables, sandwich meats, cheeses and egg for a filling snack or lunch.

Baked tortilla chips and salsa â Easy to pack. Be sure to look for a low-sodium version of the tortilla chips.

Low-fat cheese and whole wheat tortilla quesadilla â Add some chicken or turkey if desired.

Pita bread â Fill with your favorite hummus and fresh veggies.

Fruit smoothie â Make your own with frozen fruit and low-fat yogurt. Carry this with you in an insulated mug.

Cut up fruit â Fruits such as apple and pear slices go great with low-fat fruit or vanilla yogurt to dip.

Air popped popcorn â Always a great snack, but be sure to choose a brand with low sodium and no butter.

Cup of dry low-sugar cereal â You can package these in small sized sandwich (zippered) bags as a great (almost) mess-free portable snack.

Whole-grain crackers â Top these with cheese, lean sandwich meat, tuna or peanut butter.

Sunflower seeds â These yummy seeds make another great portable snack. For a bit of variety, you can also mix with other nuts and seeds.

Fat-free pudding cups â Sold in a wide variety of flavors and available in single serving cups, these are great for those on the go snacks.

Gelatin fruit cups â Available as single serving cups, pick your favorite fruits. Of course you can also make your own with gelatin and plenty of diced fruit.

Cottage cheese â Eat it plain or topped with fresh fruit. You can choose low-fat cottage cheese for a healthier version.

Bran or banana muffins â Make your own and substitute the oil with apple sauce for a great healthy snack.

Low-fat string cheese â String cheese makes another great portable snack. Eat it alone or mix it up by wrapping some thin sliced ham or salami around it.

Dried Fruit â You can find anything from apples to pineapples dried. They make a great sweet and crunchy snack. Banana chips are also always a great option.

Edamame â These are soy beans in their shell. Steam them and top with a bit of salt or lemon juice.

Apple sauce â Apple sauce is available in single serving cups and comes in a few different flavors.

Natural, all-fruit leathers â These are a great healthy alternative to sugar snacks like fruit rollups.

Cereal bars â You can choose from all kinds of different low-sugar cereal bars.

Low-fat or soy milk â A cup of milk can make a very filling snack on the go.

Chocolate dipped strawberries â If you have a chocolate craving, dip some strawberries or other fresh fruit into melted dark chocolate for a yummy and healthy treat.

Tofu smoothie with fruit â Blend silken tofu with frozen fruit into a creamy smoothie.

Animal Crackers â These are low-sugar cookies kids are sure to love. Serve them with a glass of milk.

Fruit and Cheese Kabobs â Alternate chunks of fresh fruit and cheese cubes and thread them on a bamboo skewer for a fun and healthy snack.

Cooked Sweet Potato â Just cut it up in chunks. They are delicious warm or cold.

Avocado chunks â If the avocado gets very ripe and âsquishyâ, spread it on some whole wheat toast, just like you would butter.

Lettuce Wraps â Take a large leaf of lettuce and top it with raw veggies, ham or turkey and a little low-fat ranch dressing. Wrap up and serve.

How long can I store unfrosted cupcakes before they go bad? Do I freeze them?

kids lunch bag containers on Insulated Lunch Boxes
kids lunch bag containers image

dottiesunf

I plan to make cupcakes during the weekend and share them with my colleagues on Wednesday. I'm frosting them on Tuesday, can any one recommend how do I store the cupcakes so that they stay fresh, before AND after the frosting? Do I need to put them in the fridge or just store them on the counter in an airtight container?

Answer
Ok, yes you can freeze frosted or unfrosted. When I was young my mom would make cupcakes, frost them and then freeze them. After they have been frozen my mom would pull them out and wrap them individually in wax paper and then put them into a zip lock bag. I would then take them out one at a time as I needed them. By the time I ate lunch at school my cupcake was thawed out. Now since you are not keeping them and serving them individually I would suggest and this is what I do for my kids at school. I went and bought those zip lock or glad ware containers that are the rectangular but deep size. After the cupcakes have cooled, put them in these containers and put them in the fridge or freezer. Freezing them will keep them just a bit fresher. On Tuesday when you get home from school pull them out of the freezer and full them out of the container. Frost them and then put them back in the container side by side. This will prevent them from falling over and damaging the frosting. Put them in the fridge over night, this will help the frosting set too. When you get to work the next day let the container sit open slightly so that as they are coming to room temp to serve, they do not get any condensation built up on them. Good luck and enjoy...

How do vegetarians find the time and money?

ash

I have wanted to become vegetarian for awhile but I'm in college so I'm at work or at school ALL DAY even on weekends so it's hard for me to find time to cook let alone constantly have fresh veggies all the time. Plus I'm a poor college kid so my question is how do you do it? Any books or tips from you pros? Thanks!

Answer
I actually save money being a vegetarian. The easiest thing I have found is to get a few left over containers. Once or twice a week prepare a few meals and place them in the containers. This way you simply pull a container out for lunch or dinner and heat it up. Buying veggies and fruit from farmers markets is much cheaper and buying from farms is even cheaper. If you can but from a farm and freeze certain foods it saves money. For example, I picked five pounds of blueberries and after three days I froze what was left. They lasted longer but freeze well so I will have blueberries for quite some time. You can also mix veggies in a ziploc bag or even add in some sauces and make your own frozen meals that you can microwave. You can even make a few days worth of frozen dinners in one day although it's cheaper to use freezable containers since you can reuse them. It's also better for the environment. You can also learn to make your own soy, almond, or rice milk if you want. You can normally make about 4 gallons of soy milk for less than $3 and it doesn't take long.

How to advance from decision support to executive management?

How does one advance from a decision support job to an executive management position in either government or corporate? 24 year old needs advice on how to continue climbing the ladder at a quicker pace. Preferrably a 4 to 5 year time span. I don't want to work for 10 to 15 years to get to the executive level. Any strategies?

Answer
It would take a lot of favors and bending over backwards for people higher up. Take a current executive to a brown bag lunch and interview him/her. Specifically ask what things must you demonstrate to show yourself worthy of the next level? Take advantage of the mentor/mentee relationships, for that is something that will get you ahead of a lot of candidates.

Yeah. It's rough being LGBT (I'm B, btw), but if you aren't old enough, you have no idea.

Do you know who the Freedom Riders were?
Do you know about the four little girls who were murdered by racist bombing their church.
Do you know who Bull Conner was? Lester Maddox? George Wallace?
Do you know about the sit ins at Woolworth lunch counters?
Do you know who Emmit Till was? Do you know how he died?

Did you ever see a sign in a movie theatre with an arrow pointing to the steps to the balcony that said "colored?"
Do you know who Goodman Shwerner and Chaney were?

Recently there have been some suicides. I don't say, as others have, tragic suicides. Suicide by its very nature is tragic. Gay kids bullied past the point of endurance.
One lynching as far as I know. That of Matt Shepperd.
People seem to think that lynching means being hanged. It doesn't mean just that. It includes being castrated, burned alive, beat to death by axe handles. Disemboweled.
You have to take my word for it that I am a white bisexual hillbilly from Western Maryland. When I sit at a restaurant, get on a bus, drink from a water fountain, there is no way that you can tell that I am bi.
I have friends who are only a few years older than I. They went to a school for colored children. Their text books were worn out, falling apart hand-me-downs from white schools.
Don't you ever, ever dare to feel that we know that the discrimination we face is anything comparable to what African Americans faced and still face every bitter day of their lives.
A guy who lived next door to me was always going off on n***** this and n***** that. There was a young couple lived down the street, He was black, she white. It drove him crazy. One day I got tired of his BS and pulled out my wallet. I took out a photograph of a medium brown, smiling little girl. "This," I told him, "is my niece. She's biracial."
He glared at me and went away.
He killed my cat. I can't prove it, but I know he did it.
The only way people know we are LGBT is if we make it obvious. And some of us do, and hooray for those who don't give a damn. But an African American is so easily spotted.
Some years ago a white executive at a certain company - I don't recall which one, but it was a pretty big one - weary of the institutional racism at the company, took a mini tape recorder into a board meeting. At some point, somebody made the observation that "All the black jelly-beans seem to be stuck on the bottom of the bag."
Lots of laughter.
We face some degree of discrimination and always will But if it hadn't been for the Civil Rights Movement there wouldn't have been any Stonewall riot (Dr. King would not have approved of a riot).
We'd still be slinking around in the shadows.
Those were the people who showed us what true courage is.

Where can I buy a small, inexpensive messenger-style bag?

insulated lunch bag at walmart on My Tampa Bay Mommy - Couponing, Deals, & Local Savings: Daily Retail ...
insulated lunch bag at walmart image
Q. It need not have several pockets, zippers, and hoopla. Just the bag (big enough to hold a waterbottle, a camera, and my phone), and an adjustable strap. (It's for hiking.) And inexpensive would be nice.

I would rather get suggestions on where to get one, so I don't end up shopping around and finding stuff to buy at every store I visit.

Advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Answer
J - what about something like an insulated nylon lunch bag?
The padding would protect your camera & phone, and keep the bottle and water on the outside, away from the electronic stuff. Most of them come with adjustable straps.
Another possible solution would be to find a plain black nylon purse. I found one at Kmart, made by American Tourister, which I use for my camera, along with a few odds and ends. Don't worry, it doesn't look girly or anything like that.
Third choice might be to look in the camping, sporting goods, or luggage section of a store. I've seen hip-packs that have buckle straps that could be worn over the shoulder.
Best, and least expensive, place to check out would be your local discount store like Kmart, WalMart or similar mart-mart stores. If there is an Army/Navy surplus store near you, they may have the type of bag you want.

In which section @ Walmart can I find an insulated cooler bag?

Poco

I don't know the exact name, but one of those bags that hold food / lunch and keep it cool...
I'm looking for a rather large one, though.

Answer
They're in the housewares department.

What are some creative things to do with rubber bands?

I need some things that you can do with rubber bands other than tie up your hair, make a ukulele, make a bracelet, make a dream catcher, or a giant rubber band ball. Some creative things please.

Answer
1. Keep Food Fresh â Simply wrap a rubber band around a bag of chips, salad, or baking flour to seal in the freshness.Rubber Band Lunch
2. Act as a Reminder â Wrap a rubber band around a specific page in your planner (and also around the front cover to prevent bending) or around your wrist as a reminder to get something done.
3. Rubber Padding â Wrap a couple rubber bands around a TV remote or ash tray to prevent it from sliding and scratching the tableâs surface.
4. Hold Various Objects Together â â¦like pencils or index cards. This one is obvious.
5. A Bookmark â Wrap a rubber band around the front cover and through the middle of the book to whatever page you finished on. Next time you pick up the book the first page that isnât rubber-banded will be the page you left off on.
6. A Hair Tie â Perhaps you could make a ponytail.Rubber Band Hair Tie
7. A Paper or Poster Scroll â Roll it up and put a rubber band around it. Itâs ready for storage.
8. A Safety Strap for Eye Glasses â Break a rubber band in half and tie each end to the part of the glasses frame that sits over your ears. You can secure the glasses to your face if you make the rubber band short enough.
9. Finger Exercises â Bunch all your fingers together and place them through the center of a rubber band. Spread your fingers out and let them contract. Or, wrap a rubber band from your index finger to your pinky and move your index finger away from the other fingers. Repeat this process for the other fingers.Rubber Band Finger Exercises
10. A Handle Grip â Wrap several rubber bands around the end of a pole or stick to create a handy grip.
11. Secure a Lid onto a Container â If you donât want the contents to spill, put a rubber band around it.
12. Quick Tagging â Are these batteries at the bottom of my bag charged or uncharged? Tag your batteries with rubber bands so you never have to guess. You can differentiate between various groups of objects by tagging each group with a certain color rubber band, or a specific number of visible rubber bands.
13. Stress-Relieving Rubber Band Ball â If made soft enough, a rubber band ball can make for a perfect stress relieving squeeze toy. It helps out when youâre in a fidgety mood.
14. Mark the Level of Liquid Remaining in a Solid Color Container â Take a paint can for instance⦠before you pound the top back on, wrap a rubber band around the outside of the can at the same level as the paint remaining in the can. Next time you need it youâll know exactly how much you have left in a single glance.Stress Relieving Rubber Band Ball
15. Slingshot / Catapult â Every kidâs favorite thing to do with a rubber band, but if you think hard enough, I bet there are some practical uses for making one of these.
16. Simple Art â Take a pegboard and stretch different color rubber bands in various shapes until every peg has been used at least once. Fun, creative and simple.
17. Strap an Injured Finger â Use a rubber band to strap an injured finger to a firm stick or piece of cardboard until it can be properly casted.
18. Melt and Use as an Adhesive â Itâs not glue, but a melted rubber band does make a darn good adhesive.
19. A Distraction â Pull the famous rubber band gun trick and shoot a rubber band across the room. Try to hit something that makes a sound, or just catch your victimâs attention. As soon as they look the other way, make your move.Rubber Band Tie Dye
20. Tie-Dye â The style may have died in the seventies, but who really cares⦠a DIY tie-dye project can be a blast. If you have kids, itâs a cheap, creative way to entertain.
21. Prevent the Mixing Spoon from Sliding into the Bowl â Wrap a rubber band around the upper part of the spoonâs handle just above the point at which the spoon touches the rim of the bowl. Now the spoon canât slip and slide in.
22. Insulate Electrical Current â Rubber bands can act as insulators for low wattage electrical current. Wrap a rubber band around an exposed region of a wire (before the wire is live).
23. Design Fancy Easter Eggs â Wrap several rubber bands in different directions around the eggs before dunking them in the Easter egg dye. This will create interesting designs on the dyed eggs.
24. A Pencil Eraser â Fold a rubber band in half a few times and use it to erase pencil markings. It works surprisingly well.Rubber Band Easter Egg
25. Keep those Files IN the Manila Folder â Manila folders are a great tool for filing papers until you accidently drop a one. Since a manila folder is nothing more than a sleeve, the files will spill out everywhere. A rubber band can fix that problem in jiffy.
26. Kitty-proof or Puppy-proof Your Toilet Paper â Kitties and Puppies love to shred things. Toilet paper is one of their top 10 favorites. Wrap a rubber band around the roll of toilet paper to avoid the dangling temptation.
27. Grip that Jar Lid â Place a thick rubber band around the rim

Freezing glass bottled starbucks frappuccino?

Victoria

i like taking starbuck frappuccinos to school so i bought the glass bottled fraps..if i refrigerate through out the night it doesnt stay cool after first period..If i FREEZE it WILL IT BREAK?
what if i open the glass bottle so the air wont be to jammed in?

Answer
Freezing liquids in sealed glass containers is always a bad idea. Even if you open it or leave room at the top, sometimes liquids freeze in strange ways where they might still break the glass bottle even if there is head room. You should stick with the refrigerator or transfer it to a plastic container. However, you could also bring an insulated lunch box/bag with an ice pack to help keep it cool. Just a thought

Royal Caribbean cruises: Freedom of the seas, MAriner of the Seas?

Worth the extra expense on board the freedon of the seas? Is alcohol (example: cocktails) same price on one ship and on another?

Answer
Here's my review of the Freedom:

We went on voyage # 23 on Nov 5th, 2006 on the Freedom of the Seas. It is a very nice ship, but not one I want to cruise on again. This ship is designed to attract young people and families with kids. It will compete with Carnival and Disney because of its features.

I was somewhat surprised that check-in for a ship holding over 4,000 passengers went so quickly. The check-in could have been even faster if they had more than one person checking Set Sail Passes at the door and opened more stations to take security photos for the Sea Pass. As it was it took less than 45 minutes.

I will not try to list all of the great new and different things on this ship as they are available on the Royal Caribbean web site. Our cabin (8560) was great, as nice as any I have had. It was very roomy and had plenty of space for clothing. The balcony was huge and only needed better chairs for relaxing, like loungers, to make it the best. I give the shipâs Spa a rating of A+ for the quality and diversity of equipment and the fact that it has both a steam and sauna, plus a speed bag and a heavy bag to go with a boxing ring. Each treadmill, elliptical, stepper and bicycle had its own TV screen and you could select the channel you watched (had to use your own headphones for sound). There were plenty of pools and hot tubs, and an abundance of lounge chairs around the pools and on other decks. It was not hard to find a seat.

The formal dining room is a three story room that is elegant. The food was good and so was the wait service for dinner. We didnât feel the same for breakfast and lunch, but it was acceptable. The major problems I had with food service on ship was accessibility for casual dining. It appears that the intent on the ship is to keep all food consumption in one area of the ship. The primary casual dining place is the Windjammer Café on Deck 11. The Windjammer is too small to handle all of the passengers on ship for casual dining. When we first boarded ship we had to really hunt for a place to sit and found that the same applied any time we went there during peak hours. The option of taking food from the Windjammer to the pool or your cabin is made difficult because you must go back out of the one entrance, through a busy elevator bay, and then through a revolving door in order to get to the pool area and the first pool that you come to is the kidsâ H2O zone. In addition, if you want a cup of coffee or tea, or even iced tea or lemonade you have only one place to go, the Windjammer. Thatâs a long walk from most anywhere, and you have to negotiate the crowds. We found that ordering breakfast room service was much better than trying to get to the Windjammer. The room service was great with food usually delivered in 15 to 20 minutes.

The entertainment was good, except one comedian who stuck, and the last show was really good. Another big plus for this ship is itsâ stop at the Royal Caribbeanâs private island, Labadee. The island is huge and has a variety of beaches and activities (like Jet Ski and parasailing). There were enough lounge chairs for everyone and plenty of shade trees. They even have a tram to take you from one end to the other and sand wheel chairs for the handicapped. The beach party food was nothing special, standard foods like hot dogs and hamburgers, etc. The one thing that we needed was a map of the island so we would know where things were.

Drinks are expensive and pretty much the same price on all ships.

best resort to stay in punta cana for a family?

Q.

Answer
Iberostar (any of them, but I stayed at Iberostar Punta Cana) are PERFECT!!! There is something for everyone. They even have a childrens 'babysitter' that takes the kids around.

There are great reviews and pictures on tripadvisor.com I have written a review and everyone's reviews are perfect. Here is my reivew from tripadvisor:

This review will explain in a different way our review of the resort. First, we agree with all of the positive reviews in this site. Yes, the food was great, the grounds and beach was also beautiful and the people were very nice. This will go beyond the typical review and hopefully help a bit in your stay:

Airport tips - Since you can't bring water through security bring empty water bottles and fill them up at the drinking fountains after you go through. This helped on the plane as well as at the airport on the other end.

Arrival - The airport was pretty efficient but expect to pay a $10.00 tourist tax before entering. No one expected this at the airport. Also, have your tourist paperwork completely filled out on the plane, make sure you bring a pen with. The rides to your resort will be waiting for you at the enterance and will help with all the bags.

Resort - Check-in was fast and they bring your bags to your room, PLEASE TIP. They do a lot of work. The glass of refreshments was a nice touch. Clean as I've ever seen, walk around after settling in to get to know where everything is and there is a lot.

Room - Bring a extension cord (small) because the outlets are set in the wall. Air conditioning is strong but good. Ask for water anyting and don't forget DONT DRINK THE WATER from the sink or shower.

Food - Get reservations to the specialty restaurants form the women at the computers right away. They fill up reservations pretty fast. The Gourmet Rest. was great with the largest lobster I've seen. The help there was great, PLEASE TIP, they deserve it. Also the Mexican was very nice with good food.

Tipping - The reason I put this in so much is that they really work hard to make you feel comfortable and happy. Most Europeans dont but they do not do that back home but American's do and the help really deserves it! The people there work 14 hour days 7 days a week with 3 days off and with that they still make you feel special. A dollar or two goes a long way.

Star Friends Staff - Leave your inhabitions at home and have fun! They are a great bunch of people that are there to make your stay memorable and FUN. Have a good time with them and dont be shy! Junior is a blast.

Things to do - There are extra things to pay for but the resort gives you so much to do that if you don't feel like going anywhere you don't have to. Snorkeling is right off the beach down by the RIU resort and the other way down the beach toward the little stall shops. There are plenty of nice fish there. There are non motor boats that you can use free BUT the guy at the window wanted us to pay $35.00 for insurance - DONT. I know people that went and didnt and everything was fine.

Shade - The shade huts at the beach do go early and fast but there are plenty at the poolside that are nice also. The guys always walk around to get you drinks all day.

Shows - Dont miss them. They are fun, get as close as you can, and enjoy them. They are hard working actors and singers as you can get.

BBQ on the beach - This was a nice addtion to lunch. They will BBQ something special every day at lunch, on day it was Piaya which everyone got a lobster and other sea food with rice that was piled on the plate, really good!

I hope this will help make your stay more enjoyable.

Liked â Very clean and friendly
Disliked â N/A
