Where can I get brown paper lunch bags printed with my child's name?

remodel1

Answer
Here's a couple ways:
1. Buy several packages of brown paper lunch bags and take them to Kinko's. They'll print your child's name on them very reasonably.
2. Have a stamp made at Office Depot or Office Max of your child's name. Again, very reasonable, and you can stamp many, many bags in the future with your child's name.
3. Type out your child's name, then take the paper to a photocopier and run the bags through to imprint the name. This method is great because you can add a cute message like "Do your best today!" or "Have fun!" in addition to the name.

What are these bags called?

alicia

They're bags and purses that are like solid colored with brown leather straps. The most common color I always see people with is navy blue but I've seen other colored ones. I can't think of what they're called and it's bugging me! Does anyone know what I'm
talking about? Sorry i can't think of a lot ofinfo .Thanks

Answer
5 Handbag Styles:

Oversize tote

With room for everything from your laptop to your lipstick, an oversize tote is a fantastic bag for work. These style handbags feature a structured shape, large interior compartment and open top that make it easy to carry everything you need and access it quickly. While you wouldn't want to carry a large tote to meetings or a business lunch, it's easy to throw in a small clutch to grab and take with you.

Satchel

A satchel is a hand-held, structured handbag. While not as big as other handbags, a satchel is ideal if you don't need to carry a laptop, documents or files to and from work with you. It's the perfect size for all your personal items, and the structured design holds up well to daily use.

Hobo

Much like an oversize tote, a hobo bag has plenty of space, but without the structured shape. Hobo bags usually have a zipper or magnetic snap, making sure the contents of your handbag don't accidentally spill on your way to work. The telltale crescent shape of a hobo bag gives it a slouchy look that, while fashionable, may not be the best for carrying documents. The slouchy design does, however, hide the contents of your bag well, so go ahead and stock it full.

Cross-body/messenger bag

If you're carrying a laptop, files, books and other heavy items to and from work, you'll want your bag to be both sturdy and comfortable. A cross-body bag distributes the weight across your body, making it easier to carry around. Most cross-body and messenger bags have adjustable straps so you can customize one to your needs.

Briefcase style

The ultimate handbag for work is a briefcase-style bag. Meshing classic office style with the modern handbag, briefcase handbags have the basic structure of a briefcase without all the bulk. These feminine business bags have interiors built for carrying documents, files and laptops, as well as everything from lotions to lipstick.

Does any one have an idea for a lunch bag or tote that will truly keep food hot?

goodwitch

I know there are many insulated and "keep hot" products out there, but I wanted to hear from someone who has actually used one that really works. My husband works outside and does not have access to a microwave or stove. Since it is going to be getting colder, I would like to know he can eat something hot at lunch time.
Rusty I could do without the sarcasm. To every one else, if you do not have any helpful answers, please do not answer at all.

Answer
What you need is an insulated bag (similar to the one below) or an insulated tote. You should be able to find one at a camping supplies store.

How can you keep food hot for a long time?

Amber

My fiance drives a bookmobile for a living. He was taking lunch from home, storing it in the on-board mini refrigerator, and warming it in the on-board microwave. Now, the library has gotten a smaller bus, and there is no space for a microwave. Do any products do a good job of keeping food hot for 3-5 hours, or does the poor guy just have to eat sandwiches for the rest of his life?

Answer
There are many insulated bags for lunch that may do the job. Also you may find some that plug into the lighter/accessory outlet and warm up food. Also there are thermoses for soup.

Here's something that looks promising.

http://www.amazon.com/RoadPro-12-Volt-Portable-Stove-Black/dp/B00030DLEE/ref=pd_sim_sbs_k_1

I'm sure if you google or bing or something you can find more alternatives.

LOW CALORIE School Lunch Ideas?

tala

I am in high school and on a diet to lose about 20 pounds. Nothing of what my school serves is really healthy, and they always run out of salads by my lunch period. I need something preferably just about 300 calories to bring to school without much hassle.

I have considered bringing that ramen that you can buy in the styrofoam cups and begging the lunch ladies for some hot water to put in it but I'm not sure they would give me any.

Slimfast doesn't help my hunger for long. Could I bring a ham sandwich or would the meat go bad? I'm not sure...

Answer
If you want to lose weight, you need to watch carbs and sodium as well- which means NO ramen.

I used to bring an icepack, and put it in my lunch bag to keep my food cold, that way you have tons of options.

My FAVORITE lunch of all is a turkey sandwich. You can pick up these 100 calories sandwich thins, throw on 3 slices of turkey, for just 150 calories. Add an apple and a cheese stick and that's about 300.

School's lunch line is too long and they don't make enough food?

Ms. M Mous

Ever since the beginning of school this year, our lunch lines have become WAY too long, and by the time I make it up to the actual serving counter, their all out of food! I keep getting stuck with no food at lunch, because I get free lunch at school and have no time to pack my own lunch, so I have to wait in the long lines and go up there for nothing. The lunch lady had the nerve to try and force me to buy a personal pan pizza (The one lunch item they DON'T run out of) for $3, which I DO NOT have the money to spend on right now.

They never have enough food, I always have to never eat, and whenever I do get food, there's never enough time to eat it. I take one bite and we have to leave for the next class. Sometimes the lunch lady HAS food she can give us, but she won't. It's ride there in front of us but she won't give it to us. The cafeteria is just too unorganized, and I cannot stand having no food at lunch anymore. What can I do?

Answer
At my school, we have the exact same problems. I have the last lunch, ours are divided into A,B,C,D,E,F, A being first and F being last. Whenever I make it to the Cafeteria (I try to get there FAST) the door is practically CLOGGED with kids. It's impossible to get in. Once I do make it in, the lunch lines are way too long, and I have to get right on the end, because the lunch monitors watch our lines closely. Once I do make it up (I normally have other kids behind me as well) they are all out of EVERYTHING. I always have to turn around and walk back over to my table, and I want to shout "I bet if I were in Jail i'd get FED!"

Back in Elementary school, our teachers always had us vote for what lunch we would get, and they would then send the count to the Cafeteria, and they would make more than enough food for everyone. Now at this school, last year wasn't so bad. I had B lunch, so I was second, & they always had enough food. Now with F lunch, I feel like a Bottomfeeder, basically eating what everyone else left for me, oh, wait, they almost never leave ANYTHING. I think it may be that my school has over 1,000 kids.

I never have enough time to pack my lunch either, and if I did, it would probably just be a sandwich, since we don't have many other snack options at my house.

That lunch lady sounds like she considers you to be an orphan, like Oliver Twist. She thinks you don't deserve the food, but you're having it waved right in front of your face. I once had that happen to me. The lunch lady had some chicken tenders still in the container, but she said she was all out. They were right there, I even pointed them out to her, but she said, "I don't have anything, it's ALL GONE" She didn't seem to care either. Apparently, we kids at F lunch get the leftovers, and we get only half of what the kids at earlier lunches got, if we even get any. It's like the kids at the earlier lunches are the people in charge of the workhouse, and we're the orphans who have to eat GRUEL while they feasted.

Lunch time is also retarded. We have as much time to eat as the orphans in Oliver Twist did. "Eat your food in 1 minute and get back to work!" What are we? Nothing?

Also, apparently the kids at the earlier lunches have the opportunities to get bags of chips and Rice Krispie Treats for $1 and cookies for 50 cents. By the time we make it into the lunchroom, they're all out.

You need to boycott. Tell everyone who's stuck with no food to try and bring packed lunches or to bring a snack to lunch, but to refuse to get in that line until they HAVE food for you to eat. If they can't provide food, whether it's free or not, then they need to make more. It's just unfair. No one shouldn't be able to eat even if they do pay nothing!

Do kids carry lunch boxes any more??

lana_sands

It was one of those things I did as a kid. I had my trusty brown metal "How the West was Won" lunch box for 4 years. By 5th grade I did the brown /plastic bag thing. Not having any little kids in the family I was wondering. Or are mothers just too lazy to make a kid a Ham & Cheese sandwich in the morning?

Answer
Yes and no....kids carry lunches to school, but the method has changed. They have insulated lunch bags to help keep food fresher. They still have the popular characters of the day too.

No, in that schools are in a position to offer nutritious and delicious foods. I think it is great that kids have a choice!

Vegetarian school lunches?

qtpie1023

At my school, we have no lunch system. I can either buy food out of the vending machine or brown bag, but all they offer that's vegetarian is microwaveable cheese pizza. We have microwaves available, so what are some options, either hot or cold, for lunch?

Answer
I fix a vegetarian lunch for my daughter in highschool every day. It's easy. Here's a website to give you some ideas
http://kids-vegetarian-food.suite101.com/article.cfm/vegetarian_brown_bag_lunches

Think whole grain breads with various cheese, or cheese or bean spreads. You can also add dried tomatoes to cream cheese etc. Baggies of nuts, olives, sliced peppers, cucumbers & other veggies.

Pasta with additions which can be eaten either as a pasta salad or heated.

Hummus,. bean, or other dips which you can make yourself to go with pita chips or swedish crackers

Soups

Baked potato (previously baked and split) with cheese etc to put on it.

containers of yogurt, piece of fruit, granola bar

Fruit, cheese, bread & butter

i need help finding a tiny cooler!?

michael

i currently keep my insulin in a mini cooler. it would perfectly fit one can of pop or one can of beer. it has a hard white shell & a cloth outer shell that zips on top. its almost like a lunch box. maybe three inches deep, three inches wide & six inches long. there is no brand name on it & i have been searching the internet trying to find a similar product. mine has torn & i would really like to purchase another to hold the insulin & keep it cool, as well as keep my syringes & meter together. if anyone could help me find one or let me know a company to look into, please let me know. i did not find any on the coleman or igloo sites. thank you!

If I leave yogurt in my locker or my backpack for 3 hours will it go bad?

HockeyGirl

I normally put my food in an insulated lunch bag and leave it in my locker.. but I am afraid that if I wait after 3-4 hours it will go bad. I am very iffy on leaving dairy out.

Answer
It shouldn't go bad but it certainly may become soft and mushy. Put a small, closed container of frozen water in your lunch bag to keep the yogurt fresh.

How does one transport lunch to school and still be totally cool ?

DK

My 5th grade, 10 yo son doesn't want to take his lunch box to school in fear of looking like a nerd. The lunch box is plain, no charactures. How else can he transport the lunch and still be totally cool ?

Answer
What are the other 5th graders using? My 5th and 6th graders still use lunch boxes, but so do their classmates. When we can't find our lunchboxes, we use brown paper lunch bags (though they are kind of small if you want to send a bev. and tend to break if you have an apple or other large fruit), or plastic grocery sacks. The downside of these options is the fruit bruises and the lunch gets warm, maybe even dangerously warm. String cheese and go-gurts can be frozen, and this helps to keep the lunch cooler. Or put the lunch in a paper bag inside the insulated lunchbag in his backpack. At lunchtime, voila! His lunch is cool and he is too!

Grown-up bagged lunches?

AWT322

I am doing an internship after the new year for a month. It is at an elementary school, I will be observing and teaching. I will be having lunch with the teacher I'll be working with, so I was wondering what I should bring for lunch. I haven't had to brown-bag it in years. I'm thinking juice-boxes and PBJ sandwhiches won't fill me up, nor will my fellow teachers take me seriously. I'm looking for healthy and easy options.

Answer
There's different sandwiches you can make: turkey, roast beef, ham, chicken salad, egg salad, tuna, pimento cheese

Pasta salad- just mix pasta, celery, cherry tomatoes, olives, cheese, etc with balsamic vinaigrette

Salad- can add grilled/ rotisserie chicken- keep dressing in a separate container

fruit

Chips (like baked Lays), pretzels, chex mix, crackers, cheese cubes/sticks, power bar, leftover veggies

Lots of people bring a frozen meal like Stouffers, Lean Cuisine, Healthy Choice and the Campbells microwave soups are another option.

Congrats on your internship!

What was on your lunch box growing up?

Camping for D of E Bronze Award help?

Rockfan94!

I am doing my duke of Edinburgh award.

I am only 14 and it is going to be this age range of kids camping for the award. (no adults they are on another campsite) So i was wondering what things are good to take and what things should we not take that we might etc etc.

Also what are some really easy foods to take we will only have a little stove.
The trip will take 2 days one night and we will have to walk 8 miles each day.

Thanks in advance this will be a really big help !!

Answer
SORRY, THIS IS A LONG REPLY...BE PREPARED!

I have worked and taught so many DofE courses its unreal. Well done for starting it and I hope you move onto the Gold eventually.

So many DofE students turn up unprepared so best advice is - be prepared! However, most still make it and have a cracking time so don't worry too much. Your determination will get you through.

Kit...A good rucsac of course, approx 65lt should do the trick. If you can't afford one, borrow one from friends but make sure it fits! The should straps should be wrapped over your shoulders with NO gaps! Most just need a little adjusting so play around.

Get a dry bag for lining it (if you can't then two thick bin bags will suffice). Learn how to to do it up, squeezing air out of it, you'll look cool if you have it and know how to use it. Put it in the bag and start packing.

Sleeping bag goes first - don't roll it EVER, no matter what your parents say. We (instructors) always roll our eyes whenever we see you doing it. Just stuff the bag at the bottom of your rucsac and pack it down hard!

Next in: dry set of clothes (ie spare set), warm top, t shirt or thermal, underwear, trousers and socks. At the end of the day and once the tent is up and time for bed you'll want to get into this stuff for sleep (unless its too hot). Whatever you do, do NOT be tempted to wear this second set of clothing "just because the other set is wet". The stuff you wear on the walk is used during the day always.

Technically now, there's not much else to put in the rucsac. Food will probably go next. You can buy these cool camping food bags from camping shops like Millets, Blacks or Cotswolds (best). So take your pick. They don't weigh much and taste alright (I personally prefer the boil-in-the-bags). Try to work out exactly what you'll need and pack 'em away. For lunch and on the go, bring a bag made up of things like, chocolates, nuts, dried fruits and buiscuits and my favourite, jelly babies woo hoo! Keeps the energy levels high. Also, get yourself some hot chocolate sachets for drinks...don't bother with tea or coffe unless you like it so just the sachets will do. Bring enough to supply you at least a drink in morning, lunch and night.

Pack it down in rucsac tightly.

If you are sharing cooking equipment (trangias?) then I would probably put the stove next (you can pack food stuffs inside the pans saving space).

Now, close the dry bag (squeezing the air out of it) or close the bin bags and tie a loose knot.

On top of this you can put your share in the tent (if you are doing this). I keep the poles on the outside of the rucsac usually stuffed down one side of the bag. If not then stuff them down the inside of the rucsac in between the dry bag and the rucsac. The tent itself now can be stuffed at the top of the rucsac pushing the edges down all the gaps and using up all available space. On top of this go your waterproof top and bottoms.

Get yourself a woolen hat or better still, a fleece hat and also some gloves (I prefer mittons as your fingers move freely and can keep themselves warm together). A scarf is fine too. Pack these wherever you want in the bag.

Head torch is possibly best kept in the top pocket of your rucsac along with other useful things like a pen knife, mess tin (you can go extra light by just eating out of the cooking pans), cup and spoon (don't bother with fork and knife - pointless). If no room for mess tin or cup they can go anywhere you want.

Get a lock'n'lock box (ask your folks - cheap) and put some spare batteries, half a toilet roll, small tub of sun cream (high factor), lip balm, tooth brush and small tube of paste. Also a roll on deodorant and some soap (if you want -- I don't bother). A good thing to have is one of those small plastic bottle with alcohol wipe gel for cleaning your hands - very important to stick to hygiene. I also carry a tiny tub of Tiger Balm for itches from bites...oh yeh, bring some bug spray.

Water! Very important. At the very least, one litre. Any bottle will do...you can be fancy and get those camel packs (great but expensive) but personally I usually just use a Robinsons juice bottle...anything will do. Keep hydrated!!! Dyrolites are good to have in an emergency too (ask your folks).

You'll be using a roll mat of course. If its one of the simple ones that just roll up then either....chop it down to three quarter length (literally take a pair of scissors to one end) and roll it up in a bin bag and place on one SIDE OF OF YOUR RUCSAC - please please please don't have it horizontal on top or on the bottom of your bag...all students do that and we hate it!!!! Or roll it loosely and put in the rucsac first prior to everything else. Bash it out so it moulds to the shape of the bag and then put evertyhing in as normal.

Your clothes...avoid cotton - when wet it becomes heavy and saps heat. If you can afford it, stuff that dries qui

I am a very busy mom of two young children and have an in-home daycare with 5 other kids here from 6am to 6pm so I don't have a lot of time to work out. I only need to lose about 10lbs and tone up my loose post-baby tummy...any ideas?

Answer
You don't sound as busy as I am, so maybe you can keep up with my routine...

4:00 am - Fix hot breakfast for husband, fix bagged lunch for husband, feed baby her cereal (all done with 10 lb weights strapped to my arms).
5:00 am - Morning run... I put my 8 month old on my back in her carrier and we jog about 10 miles
5:15 am - finish with some "cool down" time by jogging the stairs of the local stadium.
7:00 am - "Down time" for me and baby. I quietly read her a book while I'm running on my treadmill...about 30 min.
9:00 am - Woohoo..baby's sleeping, so it's Bowflex time! About 45 minutes
11:00 am - LUNCH! I'll have a power bar and a half of a yogurt cup..baby has some juice and some cereal...then I lay down on my exercise mat and "bench press" my baby for at least 30 minutes. She has fun "flying" and I'm able to work on my bicepts...it's a win-win.
12:00 pm - Kegel time...I'm all about working *every* muscle in my body.
1:00 pm - Nap time. Baby goes down for a nap at this time...which gives me an opportunity to jog the stairs. I run up and down the about 50 times (give or take 10 or so...depending on my mood)
3:00 p.m. This is what I like to call the "who needs a jumperoo" time. I just strap my baby to my chest and do about 100 jumping jacks, followed by some tae-bo moves. She really seems to like that.
5:00 p.m. DINNER...another power bar for me and some non-fat, low-sodium, organic, green tea Oreos (I have my downfalls like anyone else). Baby gets peas. I put her on my shoulders and do some squats (very good for the thighs.....mine, not hers).
6:00 pm DADDY'S HOME! I greet my husband with a big sweaty kiss...he takes the baby..then the three of us do some "jazzersize" before it's time for baby to get in her jammies and go to bed.

I hope this helps.

best resort to stay in punta cana for a family?

Q.

Answer
Iberostar (any of them, but I stayed at Iberostar Punta Cana) are PERFECT!!! There is something for everyone. They even have a childrens 'babysitter' that takes the kids around.

There are great reviews and pictures on tripadvisor.com I have written a review and everyone's reviews are perfect. Here is my reivew from tripadvisor:

This review will explain in a different way our review of the resort. First, we agree with all of the positive reviews in this site. Yes, the food was great, the grounds and beach was also beautiful and the people were very nice. This will go beyond the typical review and hopefully help a bit in your stay:

Airport tips - Since you can't bring water through security bring empty water bottles and fill them up at the drinking fountains after you go through. This helped on the plane as well as at the airport on the other end.

Arrival - The airport was pretty efficient but expect to pay a $10.00 tourist tax before entering. No one expected this at the airport. Also, have your tourist paperwork completely filled out on the plane, make sure you bring a pen with. The rides to your resort will be waiting for you at the enterance and will help with all the bags.

Resort - Check-in was fast and they bring your bags to your room, PLEASE TIP. They do a lot of work. The glass of refreshments was a nice touch. Clean as I've ever seen, walk around after settling in to get to know where everything is and there is a lot.

Room - Bring a extension cord (small) because the outlets are set in the wall. Air conditioning is strong but good. Ask for water anyting and don't forget DONT DRINK THE WATER from the sink or shower.

Food - Get reservations to the specialty restaurants form the women at the computers right away. They fill up reservations pretty fast. The Gourmet Rest. was great with the largest lobster I've seen. The help there was great, PLEASE TIP, they deserve it. Also the Mexican was very nice with good food.

Tipping - The reason I put this in so much is that they really work hard to make you feel comfortable and happy. Most Europeans dont but they do not do that back home but American's do and the help really deserves it! The people there work 14 hour days 7 days a week with 3 days off and with that they still make you feel special. A dollar or two goes a long way.

Star Friends Staff - Leave your inhabitions at home and have fun! They are a great bunch of people that are there to make your stay memorable and FUN. Have a good time with them and dont be shy! Junior is a blast.

Things to do - There are extra things to pay for but the resort gives you so much to do that if you don't feel like going anywhere you don't have to. Snorkeling is right off the beach down by the RIU resort and the other way down the beach toward the little stall shops. There are plenty of nice fish there. There are non motor boats that you can use free BUT the guy at the window wanted us to pay $35.00 for insurance - DONT. I know people that went and didnt and everything was fine.

Shade - The shade huts at the beach do go early and fast but there are plenty at the poolside that are nice also. The guys always walk around to get you drinks all day.

Shows - Dont miss them. They are fun, get as close as you can, and enjoy them. They are hard working actors and singers as you can get.

BBQ on the beach - This was a nice addtion to lunch. They will BBQ something special every day at lunch, on day it was Piaya which everyone got a lobster and other sea food with rice that was piled on the plate, really good!

I hope this will help make your stay more enjoyable.

These feminine business bags have interiors built for carrying documents, files and laptops, as well as everything from lotions to lipstick.

gift ideas please?

nlovelovin

It is going to be my boyfriends 18th birthday next month. i dont want to give him some cliche' gift. please give me ideas. or personal stories
I thought of a hot air baloon ride but its too expansive.

Answer
I'm a person who loves to give practical gifts...and lots of 'em. What does he like? What does he need?

My boyfriend's birthday is actually coming up in 4 days. He is into weight lifting and running, likes funny stuff, and needs a watch. So, I got him a watch, a gift card to Foot Locker for running shoes, an insulated lunch box (he currently just uses a plastic bag) that I filled with healthy snack bars, energy shots, and sleeveless t-shirts (he likes to run and lift in them). He and I watched a Beavis and Butthead DVD his friend had, but we only saw the one and don't have it anymore, so I got him all three seasons of it on DVD. He likes Michigan State and drinking (we're of age, don't worry), so I got him a Michigan State beer glass that freezes when you put it in the freezer. And since every man is really a little boy at heart, I got him those cheese and pretzel snack packs, pixie stix, and some silly straws to drink some alcoholic drinks with.

For the party, I'm going to get him his favorite DQ blizzard in cake form, but I'm going to do the illustration on it based on a joke he made while we happened to see Ninja Turtles on TV while flipping through channels. I'm also going to make his favorite dish, and make my signature drink!

That's a lot of stuff, but even some kind of small gift package you can make by throwing a few of his favorite things into a box will work. When we first started dating, he got me a Christmas stocking with a card and filled it with protein bars (I'm into weight lifting, too).

My brother keeps stealing from me for weed, please help?

Mr.Brights

He's been stealing from me for years now and i don't think he's ever gonna stop im 16 he's 19 im still at school (yr 11) and he works in mcdonalds =/.

So a couple of years ago is when he fist started stealing from me it would be mostly my lunch money i didn't spend (school dinners are ughhh..) this would be £2-£3 he we scavenge my room till he found it and would check my school bag! then he moved on to my games where he probably has sold £500-£1000 worth of games along with my TV and PSP. this is when he'd drawn the line and mum called the police they police came shook him up and said if you do this again will lock you up basically. so a year pasts and he would used to ask for money i obviously said no but then he would ask for money like everyday and would pleed to pay me back more it started of i loaned him £20 he gave me £30 i gave him £30 he gave me £40 then he would just steal all my money (it's around £140) and i told my mum about this and my brother denies it saying he owes me £30 and he says to my mum how on earth do i get that sort of money, i get the money from my dad i see every weekend who gives me £10 pocket money and i usually go pool with him to win more ;) and i play a game to win perudo to win even more this usually leaves me with £20.
and if that's not worst enough he smokes weed with people i know from school and he chats bad rumours about me and he knows i can't do anything about it cause he's bigger then me and he always thinks he the bigger stronger man and he used to always be really violent when i was smaller he would fight be in front of my friends (im now roughly the same height and he hasn't laid a hand on me yet...).
I don't know what to do espically with my GCSE's coming up all this stress is soing my head in every time i see him i just wanna smash his head in but then i know it would probably be the opposite way round, i really have no idea what to do i try to revise but i can't =(
i have told my parents they want do f*** all =(

Answer
The only significant difference between your situation, and a similar one that I went through with my brother is that he was younger than me instead of older.
You have to first get your priorities straight. You say your GCSE's are coming up. I don't live in GB, but I assume that these are exams that you need to pass in order to qualify for college or university. That should be job one. The money that your brother has taken from you is gone, you won't get it back, so don't fret about it. Any future money you get needs to be put straight into a bank account, and you need to stop keeping any significant sums around that your brother can take. However, if he does take any more money the thefts need to be reported to the police. You aren't your brothers keeper, and if he goes to jail because you reported a theft it will be because your brother did it to himself, NOT because of you.
You aren't doing your brother any favours by trying to handle this problem within the family. Your brother is an addict, and addicts don't respond positively when family members try to "help".
Addicts simply look at family and friends who don't report their criminal activity as people who they can exploit and take advantage of.
Your brother is an addict due to bad choices he has made for himself. Only he can decide when and if he is going to get help, and get his life back on track, and stop making your life miserable at the same time.

The only thing you can do for yourself in the meantime is detach your emotions from your brother. If he is talking trash about you to your friends, then so-be-it.
There's nothing you can do to control that. Your true friends who know and trust you, will separate the facts from his fiction, and those who get it wrong will only position themselves as people you can't count on in the future. You have more important things to do than to run around doing damage control because of your druggie brother.

You have a future to build for yourself, so concentrate on your exams, and put your brother out of your mind. Insulate yourself from him as much as you can. Ask your mom to protect you from him. If she was a smart parent she would kick your brother to the curb. If he were my son, I wouldn't give him the right to live in my house and disrupt the rest of the family. Yes I would try to get him into treatment, but he wouldn't be invited back home unless and until he successfully completed a drug rehabilitation programme, and kept up with his work on staying clean.

I can say these things because I learned from experience that we can love our family members who become addicts, but still be tough with them.

You can't control your brother and his bad choices. But you can control how you react to the garbage he brings into your life. Either you let it get you down, and defeat you, or you learn how to cope and find success for yourself in spite of him.

Now it's up to you.

Why do mothers want daughters?

pink lunch bags for women on Filgifts.com: Sea Princess Lunch Bag (Pink/Navy Blue) by Cool Kids
pink lunch bags for women image

terminator

Hi, I'm continuing to write my story and have now come to this part: Terrence's mother wanted a girl instead of a boy. Since I'm not a girl I wouldn't know some of the reasons why a mother would want a daughter. What are some reasons? What type of bond do they share? Thanks

Answer
Hello, I was convinced at first that my baby was going to be a boy. Only because thats what my boyfriend wanted. At the second scan I found out I was having a girl. I loved the fact that I could buy pretty pink girly shoes and clothes. Now my daughter is 17 months she loves jewellery and pretends to put make-on and has a grown up bag to be like mummy.
I think it will be great and easier as I am a woman. To do her hair pretty teach her how to put on make-up, dress nicely. Its very special when a woman can show their daughter these things. Also teaching her life skills, giving date tips and being there to give her support. Its also nice to think that I will try and teach my daughter things I wish I had more support with when growing up. The bond is really close between a mother and daughter and I would say that mothers do want daughters because they have more in common. Shopping, fashion womens problems etc. Theres nothing I can imagine better that when my daughter grows up we can go to lunch together, or get are nails done. Which you cannot do when you have a boy.

For teenagers or younger do you like my writing?

"So, Brendan, Amy, how are you feeling about going into a new house, new school, new friends?" Tim asked Brenden and I. "It's exciting!" Brenden squeaked. I rolled my eyes in disgust. Goody-two shoes I thought. "What about you Amy?"
âFine!" I growled. He had been asking these pointless questions throughout the whole trip!
"Calm down Amy itâs just a question." Brenden said. I sighed.
"Yeah one question plus the other hundred million questions dadâs been asking us!" I retorted sharply. "Stop it Amy!" Mum growled at me.
"It wasnât me!" I argued. She all ways blames everything on me! Dad stopped the car in front of a small cottage house surrounded by big trees which cast a shadow over it.
"Here we are! Our new house. Come on Brenden help me bring the bags in!"

It was the first day of my new school called âKummarra Senior Schoolâ. I was wearing a short black skirt and white long sleeved plain top. I had black glossy high heels and black stockings. I was standing in the cafeteria waiting to get my lunch served.
A big plump woman stood behind the cafeteria, serving the food. She was in the middle of two other fat ladies. She had loose short shirt with an apron covering it. It had bits of sauce and food smeared over it. I turned around to face all of the other students. Some stared at me suspiciously as I walked towards an empty table. Just as I was about to sit down a tall girl came and bumped me and sat at my seat. Three more girls sat at the table, one next to her and two opposite her. I slipped on my high heels, as the only reason I was wearing them was so it made me look taller because was actually freakishly small. I never really have walked with high heels on because my old school, âCenterville Middle schoolâ, there were girls who were in year 6 with year 5âs taller than them, so I wasnât any worry. The girls laughed a high pitched laugh as my food fell to the floor. The girl, who bumped me, had beautiful long blonde hair which curled perfectly at the bottom. The girl next to her looked the same. She had blonde hair as well, but more of a pointy nose. The two girls opposite her were both dark-coloured. They had nice brown curly hair, tied up in a ponytail. They all wore a short skirt (black) with pink stockings, a small tight black shirt tucked into the high skirt with a black leather jacket cropped at the waist, halfway down their arms.
âHey! Whatâs your problem?â I growled at the show-off. She smirked evilly and replied:
âDidnât see yaâ.â
âHow could you not see me?!â I snapped angrily.
âWell what does it matter, youâre going the wrong way, your table is over there in the caves.â The girl retorted.
âWhat?â I asked, confused.
âWell thatâs where the creatures belong, isnât it?â She replied slyly. She smiled and turned to her other friends who were giggling at me.
âAlright, alright, break it up girls.â A tall women wearing a straight skirt which reached her knees, tucked in button up black shirt, and a black blazer, picked me up avoiding the food.
âAh, you must be Amy. What a bad start to the day. Letâs get you some food.â She walked me back to the cafeteria.
âShall I show you to our school captain?â The tall woman asked me kindly.
âOkay.â I replied, still wobbling from the fall. I looked at her tag. It read:
Mrs. Felligan, School Principal
Ah, she must be the principal. I walked over to a slim looking girl with long brown hair and the same school uniform as the freckle girl.
âHere we are. Lisa Marvel.â Mrs. Felligan had her hand on the girl who tripped me. âShe truly is a marvel.â Mrs. Felligan joked. Lisa stood up and held out her hand for me to shake it. I lightly touched her hand, but quickly pulled away.
âWell, I will let you get on eating.â Mrs. Felligan told me. And with that, she walked away.

âHow was school, honey?â Mum asked me. I sighed.
âGreat! Loved everything about it!â I lied. We were living here now; there is no point in telling them my problems.
âWell your dad, Brenden and I are going down to the lake to swim, do you want to come?â Mum asked me.
âNa, Iâll just stay here, doing some homework.â I replied.
âOkay. Bye bye.â Mum kissed me on the cheek and hurried off to our light blue van. She pulled out of the car park and onto the gravelly road. I sighed and sat at my desk and started working on my maths questions.
An hour later, mum called.
âYou are not allowed to swim in the lake so the three of us are going down to the beach and going to stay there for a while. Love you, honey, Bye!â Mum told me. I hung up and finished my math questions. I decided to walk down to the river, check it out.
Wow. Now that is one sight.

What are some easy brown bag lunches for kids?

lunch bags for kids on Peyton Classic Lunch Bags
lunch bags for kids image

dasi108

Any one know of healthy and easy brown bag lunches, that maybe don't require to be kept cold or need to be warmed up? I need some ideas.

Answer
Kids eat out of necessity and then want to go play or socialize before the end of the lunch break. Food has to be eaten by hand. Mini carrots, peanut-butter crackers, grapes. That is the favourite of my kids. Cold cuts with crackers, or there are are a thousand combinations of cold sandwiches that can be made quickly. My kids like raw snow peas. We cut up watermelon (when it's good) into handy pieces, same with cantalope. We always ensure that they have a protien, a veg, and a fruit. They get ice cream or cookies when they get home, but we do not pack dessert in their backpacks because we know they would eat that first and abandon the rest. Good luck.

What do you get a five year old boy going off to kindergarten?

Kasey D

My 2 1/2 year daughter's "surrogate" brother from daycare is going to kindergarten this fall. I would like to get him a small gift for my daughter to give to him for school. I was thinking a watch with a spiderman or batman theme. I know he can't tell time yet, but I am sure he will be learning soon. Any other ideas? He has tons of cute lunch bags, so that's out.

Answer
I think a backpack would be perfect! Check out kid's backpacks here:

http://www.worldofbags.com/kids-baby/Kids-Backpacks

Or, if he already has that, get him an educational toy that help him continue his learning outside the classroom:

How can I pack my lunch and supper so it stays cold and safe during the day?

Without using ugly lunch coolers etc... I run 6km to school everyday, then after school I eat and then run home, or I go to work... I also workout 3 days a week after school. So I pack things like peanuts, cottage cheese, subs, salads, vegetables etc... Mostly cold food things that don't need a lot of preperation. I thought about using an icepack and putting it in beside my containers (Im going to be packing this stuff in tupperware containers). Would that work? Also would I have to worry about my containers coming open in my backpack while I run?

Solutions please :)

Answer
Freeze a couple bottles of water. I would open them first, remove a couple of ounces or you could have a problem when you open them. You'll have your cold beverages as they thaw. I've seen lunch containers available that part of the container is a freezer pack itself. Check brylane kitchen or tupperware. They also have containers with plastic straps that would prevent the lids from coming off. Good luck. They have some cool looking lunch bags available now, too.

what are some ways to make ur makeup last?

so im n high school and i was wondering what is a way to keep that morning look , like how ur makeup loookes good after u put it on? at the end of my day it just seems to wear out and makes me looks like im tired and shows the bags and dark circles

Answer
Some women maintain their beauty from sunup to sundown while many of us require a second makeup application before lunch. Genetics aside, good makeup and effective application is key. With these tips you can make makeup last longer to get you through the day.

Things You'll Need
Professional quality makeup brushes
Long-wear makeup
Translucent, loose face powder
Makeup sponges
Skincare products

1
Cleanse and tone your skin to remove surface oils that cause makeup to fade and smear. Use skincare products designed for your skin type and pay special attention to the T-zone if you have oily or combination skin.

2
Moisturize your face with a lightweight cream to address dry skin and provide a smooth canvass for your makeup. Makeup will last longer as it is less prone to be absorbed into the pores. If needed, apply lip treatment to dry, cracked lips.

3
Apply a good quality foundation designed for longer wear. Look for powder-based, anti-aging makeup or thicker compact-style makeup for good coverage. If you will be outdoors you may prefer waterproof foundation. Use a clean sponge and work in an upward and outward direction. Blend the foundation around the edges but avoid rubbing it into the skin.

4
Apply a non-oily concealer to darker areas and use it as an eyeshadow base to make eyeshadow stay put. If your concealer is not sufficient opt for a dedicated base makeup.

5
Add color to your face with your first layer of blush or bronzer. Use either cream blush or powder bronzer depending on your skin type, and use either a sponge or a good quality brush. The goal is to have smooth looking color. If you are dissatisfied with how your blush looks, consider another formula.

6
Powder your face with lightweight, loose translucent powder and a dense, large powder brush. Apply the powder over your skin. Repeat the application on oily areas and cover your lashes as well. Good quality powder is a critical step to make makeup last longer.

7
Add another light layer of powdered blush or bronzer. Loose powder may work best when applying over powder makeup. First tap any excess off before applying it to your face. Practice makes perfect to avoid a blotchy look. Skip this step if you have dry, flaky skin.

8
Make lipstick last longer by applying lip liner than a long-wear lipstick followed by this powder technique. Take a tissue and separate into one-ply, if needed. Use toilet paper if the tissue is too thick and not semi-translucent. Lay the tissue lightly over your lips. Using light pressure, apply a generous amount of loose translucent powder onto the tissue, then remove. Add gloss and/or a bit more lip color if desired.

9
Enjoy longer lasting eye makeup by applying it in light layers. For eyeliner, line your eyes with a pencil eyeliner, powder lightly, then reapply and/or use a liquid eyeliner on top. Mascara makeup lasts longer when applied in two coats on powdered eyelashes. Eyeshadow works well when applied both in cream and powder form. Optionally, blend and set using a blush brush dipped in light pink blush or neutral powder.

how to lose belly fat at home with no expment.?

godfrey

i'm a male 5ft2 weigh 141 . had belly fat since i was born, i am tired of belly fat.
is there a way to get rid of it in 2 weeks or less.
please be specific
my.bad is suppose to say.(how to lose belly fat at home with no equipment)

Answer
What is "no expment" supposed to mean? If you did not put the belly fat on in two weeks, it is not logical that you can remove it in two weeks.

The first thing you should know is that you must cut the amount of food that you eat at any sitting in HALF. You're eating too much food. Next you need to eat real food-not "food-like" foods. That means for breakfast have one serving of oatmeal, 1/2 a banana and one hardboiled egg. Don't reach for boxed cereal, or some frozen Jimmy Dean garbage that has a million chemicals and fake colors and fake flavors.

Have a SMALL snack like 12 raw almonds and one kiwi

Lunch and dinner: Have a SMALL piece of chicken or fish the size of a deck of cards (think about how small that is) along with a salad or vegetables with vinegar and olive oil-NO salad dressings.

Have a SMALL snack between lunch and dinner like 4 oz of PLAIN organic yogurt, 6 walnuts and the other half of the banana.

If you say to yourself, "I'm full" you have eaten WAY too much. The idea is to shrink your stomach while you continually feed it every 2-3 hours with SMALL portions. You feed yourself real whole foods and avoid all sugar (get your sugar from fruit) avoid HFCS like the plague. Get your calories from FOOD and NOT from drinks. Avoid chemicals that are foreign to the body like the garbage they put in diet drinks-plus those diet drinks with "caramel color" have chemicals in them that promote cancer-that info hit the news-wire in the last few days if you want to google it.

UPDATE: OK, you can lose the weight with no equipment. How do I know? I'm a woman in her 50's who was normal weight 5'6" and 132 pounds but unhappy as I had always been super thin without even trying. If I can lose and keep the weight off while being "normal" weight AND "old", you can lose it by being over weight. I finally figured out how to gain control over my weight. I lost 12 pounds in two months and dropped three more pounds by walking everyday. I've kept it off for EIGHT years. I hover between 115-118 pounds. I feel great because we eat whole foods. I don't buy anything in a can unless it's a can of organic black beans with nothing added. I don't buy anything in a bag unless it's something like a bag of raw walnuts. I don't buy anything in a box unless it's a box of quinoa (this is a GREAT food to add to your grocery list. It's super healthy with many vitamins and fiber, it cooks up fast and tastes delicious hot or cold. Mix it with hot veggies or cold veggies. It also packs a protein punch by containing all the essential amino acids to constitute a complete protein). The point is you're not alone because the Standard American Diet (SAD for short) has caused most Americans to remove themselves from food and into the arms of the "food-like" foods. As a result of all of the herbicides, pesticides, chemical fertilizers, fungicides, growth hormones, antibiotics, chemical colors, chemical flavors added, cheap sugars like HFCS and cheap trans fats, pink slime and "meat glue", not to mention Genetically Modified "Foods"-ingesting these things for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks, we are a very sick and fat nation. More and more Americans are fed up with this and are fighting back. Maybe you'd enjoy learning more. If so check out http://www.organicconsumers.org/ or http://www.fooddemocracynow.org/

Ways to make extra money?

K. Burke

First of all, I DO have a job, which I work very hard at, so I'm not asking this because I'm a freeloader. But lately I've been needing some extra cash. Any good ways you can think of?

Again, I have a job, so please don't tell me to get a second one. I would like some other way to earn some extra cash.

Thank you so much! (:

Answer
That other answer is likely leading you to a scam. Avoid it.

I worked 2 jobs for years -- a full time and part time. It's really the best solution for money, but there are others. Don't discount it straight away. I used to clean office buildings and nightclubs -- the hours were all after hours, and it was only a couple of hours at a time. :)

You can sell some stuff you're not using anymore on EBay -- bags of clothes go really well, as do kids toys. I have some friends who do this -- one buys stuff at op shops like St Vincent de Paul and sells things like toys and kids clothes at a profit on EBay. The other does it with cars -- he buys an old car for a few hundred dollars, and parts it out, selling the parts for a considerable profit. He recently confessed to me that he finds doing this addictive. He's a car guy, so it works for him.

Why do you need more money? Is there areas in your finances you could tighten up a bit? Perhaps it might help to keep a spending diary for a few weeks, work out where your money is going, and see if there is somewhere you can rein it in. Can you get cheaper deals on your phone, internet, or insurance? Can you take your lunch to work each day from home? Doing that can save you hundreds of dollars a year.

You should try the library for some books on personal finance -- they are full of tips to sort your finances out and they are easy to read. You might find there is something very simple you could do that helps you manage your money. For example, one woman I knew (I used to give financial counselling to women leaving domestic violence) used to use her debit card everywhere. When she instead took her wage out of her account in one withdrawal as cash, and spent only cash, she found she spent a considerably smaller amount, because she could see at a glance how much she had left in her wallet. This saved her over a hundred dollars the first week she did it. Just find the weaknesses in where you are spending your money and see if you can make some tiny changes. You may find this solves your problem and you don't need to find extra money. :)

How long does an insulated bag work for?

insulated lunch bag for hot food image

~ <3 ~

I'm going to be at college for 12hrs, plus another 2hrs driving time.

If I were to keep some food in an insulated bag, APPROXIMATELY (to your best knowledge) how many hours max would it stay fresh for if:

-the food was reallly hot or frozen?
-it was just sorta cold?

Thanks.

Answer
I found this for you. Hope it helps!

Lunch Bags & Boxes
The first thing you will need is a container in which to pack the lunch. It doesn't need to cost a lot of money. For adults a small cooler makes a great lunch box. Fred uses a medium sized cooler. He is usually gone for 24 to 48 hours, so he needs alot of food to keep him going. For children and teenagers, you can usually find inexpensive lunch boxes and insulated lunch bags at yard sales and thrift stores.

Small children often prefer a plastic lunch box with cartoon characters on the side. I suggest you buy these as cheaply as possible. They only last for a year or two before the children drop them or the latch breaks. At $6 to $10 a piece, buying brand new boxes has never been a good investment for me. I have purchased them new when I desperately needed the thermoses that came with them. After the plastic lunch box broke, I purchased replacements from my local Goodwill. I continue to use the same thermos year after year.

If the art work on an older lunch box is shabby, you can easily replace it. Use rubber cement to glue down a new picture (cut to size) and then cover the picture with clear contact paper. I've done this, and it lasted almost 2 years, until the lunch box cracked and became unusable. Amy D. describes the process in detail in the first book of The Tightwad Gazette.

For older children insulated lunch bags work best. They don't have the juvenile connotations of plastic boxes with matching thermoses, so older kids usually don't object to carrying them. I like them because they don't break when they get drop-kicked across the livingroom by a budding football player. Since they have soft sides, it is easier to fit more food and odd-shaped containers in them too. They usually have zipper closing and shoulder straps for carrying them. I buy the largest ones I can find because I find them easier to fill. Many modern insulated bags have several extra zipper pockets and sections on the outside to carry little extras like napkins, spoons and salt or pepper packets. My boys like these but they aren't really necessary. Purchased brand-new, insulated lunch bags cost between $5 and $15. If you wait until back-to-school-sales you may find them cheaper. Over the summer they can often be found at yard sales. Insulated lunch bags usually do not come with their own thermos, so you will have to use some you already have or buy them separately.

Can you suggest a lunch bag/box that can keep food hot for 4 hours?

byebye

My son doesnt like anything 'packable'. So we need to find something that would keep his lunch hot (or warm at least) for 4 hours. We'd be packing items like pancakes or spaghetti noodles - nothing really perishable. I tried a heat pack from a pyrex serving dish, but it only stayed warm for a couple hours. Doesnt anyone out there make a lunch sack that keeps food warm?

Answer
One such product is called the Lunch and Go. It has an insert for the insulated lunch carrier and claims the heat lasts 5+ hours. It also claims that a child can carry this with ease. To check it out, go here: http://www.warmandtote.com/bagel-bag.html

Another such product is the Zojirushi Mr. Bento Stainless-Steel Lunch Jar. It is made mainly for asian cuisine, which is why it comes with chopsticks and a chopsticks holder, but it still seems capable of doing its job. There are actually three different models of this product, so on the website, click on the different titles in the left side bar. Here is the link: http://www.zojirushi.com/ourproducts/lunchjars/sl_ja.html
Also, this product can be purchased on amazon.

How to keep a salad fresh for lunch without a refrigerator?

Jenny

I want to start taking salads to work for lunch but there aren't any refrigerators to put my food in. How would I be able to keep a salad fresh?

Answer
blue ice jel packs!! I use these a lot, and keep twice as many as I need in the freezer.

Pack your salad with dressing on bottom in quart canning jars, keep in fridge and grab as needed.

slip them and the gel packs into insulated bags and go!

What are some healthy foods I can make for lunch that don't need refrigeration?

Q. I have just started a new job, and my office does not have a refrigerator in it, but it does have a microwave. What can I make for lunch that is healthy and doesn't need to be refrigerated?

Answer
Health Choice makes these unrefrigerated "meals" that you just add hot water (or microwave - either one). My daughter eats them in dorms and says some of them are pretty good. They are in the pasta isle usually. Then, there are goes cans of tuna / chicken salad and they don't need refrigeration. Also, believe it or not - and not sure how they taste - there's that unrefrigerated milk like they sell in Starbucks so there's some milk if you want it to make like cream soup. Oh, and those "Soup at Hands" are pretty good.

You could always go out and but an insulated lunch bag and put some of that blue ice in it. Pretend you're a construction worker - ha ha....sorry I am a construction worker so I shouldn't laugh!

Well, good luck - I'd say go get a lunch bag and blue ice then you can bring leftovers or salads.

i currently keep my insulin in a mini cooler. it would perfectly fit one can of pop or one can of beer. it has a hard white shell & a cloth outer shell that zips on top. its almost like a lunch box. maybe three inches deep, three inches wide & six inches long. there is no brand name on it & i have been searching the internet trying to find a similar product. mine has torn & i would really like to purchase another to hold the insulin & keep it cool, as well as keep my syringes & meter together. if anyone could help me find one or let me know a company to look into, please let me know. i did not find any on the coleman or igloo sites. thank you!

Does the Packit work?

Tyra

So I'm going to get the packet but i have a couple of questions first. 1 does it really work like it says it does. and 2 the buy one get one free offer, are they both the same size? Please I really need help especially number 2!!

Answer
There are a few disadvantages to using PackIt lunch bags and a practical one amongst them is the fact that it doesnât have a provision for putting labels on them. How can you write your child and teacherâs name on it then? On the other hand, the gel packs start sweating as they begin to defrost. Hence itâs useless to try and pack napkins with your childâs lunch because they will get wet and soggy before use.

According to some customers the food didnât stay cool for more than 3 hours, which was hugely disappointing. Cold yoghurts go warm and salads begin to wilt; there goes your idea of a cool healthy lunch. You are better off opting for the regular insulated bags, which can be used with ice pack to greater effect. And itâs a lot cheaper option as well. PackIt is certainly not worth its price, especially when you have a cheaper alternative that does the job better.

And then thereâs the Velcro Issue to deal with. Kids will naturally hold the bags by the top handle, but what happens because of that is the Velcro tends to come apart. Itâs just not strong enough and whatâs worse is it cannot be sewn back because you will end up damaging the gel pack thatâs under the fabric.

Lunch Bags Get Wet:
PackIt on the whole seems a good idea but lacks in execution. It doesnât keep food cool for 10 hours for starters. To make matters worse, the bags get wet from the inside when the freezer pack starts defrosting. Thatâs a strict no-no.

PackIt doesnât work for 10 hours as claimed:
You are told that PackIt keeps your food cool for 10 hours at refrigerator temperature, but thatâs not the case at all. You will manage to keep food cool for about 5-6 hours at a sort of low cool temperature. Itâs absolutely unsuitable for milk and other dairy products, which will not last.

PackIt Alternatives
Getting a MNT lunch bag is a much better idea. You can use it brilliantly with two ice packs. It will keep food, including juices and milk cool for a good ten hours and itâs a lot cheaper option as well. You can buy them at Amazon.com
