How long does an insulated bag work for?

kids lunch bags that stay cold on Square Lunch Bag - Construction - Char & Coll Gifts
kids lunch bags that stay cold image

~ <3 ~

I'm going to be at college for 12hrs, plus another 2hrs driving time.

If I were to keep some food in an insulated bag, APPROXIMATELY (to your best knowledge) how many hours max would it stay fresh for if:

-the food was reallly hot or frozen?
-it was just sorta cold?

Thanks.

Answer
I found this for you. Hope it helps!

Lunch Bags & Boxes
The first thing you will need is a container in which to pack the lunch. It doesn't need to cost a lot of money. For adults a small cooler makes a great lunch box. Fred uses a medium sized cooler. He is usually gone for 24 to 48 hours, so he needs alot of food to keep him going. For children and teenagers, you can usually find inexpensive lunch boxes and insulated lunch bags at yard sales and thrift stores.

Small children often prefer a plastic lunch box with cartoon characters on the side. I suggest you buy these as cheaply as possible. They only last for a year or two before the children drop them or the latch breaks. At $6 to $10 a piece, buying brand new boxes has never been a good investment for me. I have purchased them new when I desperately needed the thermoses that came with them. After the plastic lunch box broke, I purchased replacements from my local Goodwill. I continue to use the same thermos year after year.

If the art work on an older lunch box is shabby, you can easily replace it. Use rubber cement to glue down a new picture (cut to size) and then cover the picture with clear contact paper. I've done this, and it lasted almost 2 years, until the lunch box cracked and became unusable. Amy D. describes the process in detail in the first book of The Tightwad Gazette.

For older children insulated lunch bags work best. They don't have the juvenile connotations of plastic boxes with matching thermoses, so older kids usually don't object to carrying them. I like them because they don't break when they get drop-kicked across the livingroom by a budding football player. Since they have soft sides, it is easier to fit more food and odd-shaped containers in them too. They usually have zipper closing and shoulder straps for carrying them. I buy the largest ones I can find because I find them easier to fill. Many modern insulated bags have several extra zipper pockets and sections on the outside to carry little extras like napkins, spoons and salt or pepper packets. My boys like these but they aren't really necessary. Purchased brand-new, insulated lunch bags cost between $5 and $15. If you wait until back-to-school-sales you may find them cheaper. Over the summer they can often be found at yard sales. Insulated lunch bags usually do not come with their own thermos, so you will have to use some you already have or buy them separately.

What would you buy for a week's worth of groceries, staying under $125?

a person

For 2 adults and 2 kids, 5 and 6.
I need dinner for 5 nights, things for packed lunches, snacks and drinks.
Please help me make a list. I suck at grocery shopping. I always run out of food before the week's over. I'll be shopping at Walmart.
Thanks!

Answer
These are some quick meals that are pretty cheap but still good.

Chicken Alfredo

2 boneless skinless chicken breasts
1 jar of Alfredo sauce
Spaghetti noodles

This is a pretty quick recipe so start boiling the noodles first.
Cut chicken into bite size pieces. Cook in olive oil or margarine/butter until done. Add Alfredo sauce and heat thoroughly. When noodles are done, drain them and serve alfredo sauce on top.
**If you want you can add some fresh garlic, salt, or parmesan cheese to boost the flavor a bit.

Pizza casserole:
1 lb ground meat
1 (15oz) jar of pizza sauce
1 (12 oz) bag of egg noddles
1 (8oz) bag of mozzarella cheese

Brown the meat and drain. Boil the noodles, drain well. Put the meat and noodles in a large mixing bowl (or back in the pan you boiled the noodles in to save on dishes) and add pizza sauce and 1/2 bag of cheese. Mix well and pour into a greased 9x13 ( I use Pam spray) Top with the rest of the cheese and bake it in a 350* oven for 20- 25 minutes. Serve

Poor Mans Stroganoff (this isn't really a casserole but it is cheap and good)

1 lb or so ground meat
8 oz container of sour cream
1 can cream of mushroom condensed soup (we use cream of chicken cause we don't like mushrooms)

Brown the meat and drain off grease. Add sour cream and condensed soup (no milk) heat thoroughly and serve over cooked noodles or rice.

Tator Tot casserole

1 lb ground beef
1 can green beans ( we use corn)
1 can cream of chicken OR cream of mushroom
1 can water or milk (we use milk)
Tator-tots to cover the top of dish
shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Brown the beef, drain and put into the bottom of a greased 9x13 pan. Combine green beans or corn, cream of chicken or cream of mushroom soup, and the water or milk in a medium bowl. Pour the mixture over the beef. Put Tator-tots on top to completely cover the mixture.

Bake in a 350°F oven for 25-30 minutes, or until Tator-tots are lightly browned and crisp. Sprinkle shredded cheese if desired over the top and bake for 5 more minutes.

Someone posted this link on another question and the site looks awesome. It's Kraft foods but they have a page called 1 bag, 5 dinners:
http://www.kraftfoods.com/kf/dinner/1bag5dinners/1bag5dinnerslanding.aspx

This is also a good site. You can click on the ingredient option at the top of the page and enter ingredients you want and don't want then it brings up recipes for you:
allrecipes.com

Packed Lunch ideas:
Snack bars
Hard boiled eggs
Muffins
Quick breads
string cheese
cheese chunks and chunks of salami or other meat (the kids get sick of lunch meat in a sandwich but they don't mind eating it as cubes)
cottage cheese
fresh fruits
fresh veggies/pickles/olives
Salads??
Deli salads (many do not have mayo)
snack pack pudding or jello
make your own snack mixes with dried fruits, unsalted nuts, pretzels etc
There used to be and maybe still are soups in the cans that you can twist them and they heat up. Otherwise invest in a thermos to keep foods warm/cold

You can do leftovers for lunches too. Sandwiches can be boring but maybe try to change them up a bit like using pita bread, rolls, tortilla shells

If you like flavored water...it is way cheaper to buy the little packets that you can add to each bottle. Frozen juice is good to keep on hand too.

Keep a pizza or two in the freezer so when you are stuck for ideas or don't want to run to the store, you can pop in a pizza.

When you are cooking, make larger amounts and freeze the rest. If you do that for a week, you will have another week of food waiting in the freezer for you later on. :)

Keep PB on hand for the kids for snacks. Also fresh or canned fruit, yogurt, cheese and crackers, cottage cheese, snack paks, fresh vegs/dip

Finally, here is a site for a printable grocery list that should help when you shop. Hang it on your fridge and check things off as you need or think of them:

I know the movie is fairly recent. I seem to remember that the guy gave his potential love interest the play dough in a brown lunch bag. I believe that he told the woman that the play dough could be shaped into anything she wanted. Before that, there was a huge story about the inventor of play dough using it, I think, on crops. I seem to remember that the movie was a "chick flick." Please help. Thanks.

We have done cottonballs in a jar and everyone guesses how many. Baby food in diapers numbered and everyone guesses what it is. Place small baby items ( clipper file lotion binky that kind of stuff) in brown lunch sacks, tape closed.Everyone has to feel the bag to try to guess what is in ach bag. This isnt really a game but a really really good idea I got from a friends shower. Buy a box of blank cards.Write numbers from 1-18 on the front of the envolpe and have each person draw an envolope and write a birthday card for the baby on that birthday.

Any ideas for things to bring in my lunch?

I'm trying to bring my lunch to university with me because i'm trying to save money. Problem: i really dislike sandwiches. What are some other ideas?

Answer
When I was an Grad student, I use to bring the lunch kits made by StarKist - they consist of a can of tuna or chicken with an easy open can, a packet of mayo, a packet of relish, a wooden spoon and crackers. They were pretty good, did not need refrigeration or heating up. I also use to bring leftovers that didn't always need reheating, cheese cubes and sliced summer sausage - although we did have a fridge and microwave in our department lounge so if I wanted I could reheat things - and I kept things cool with a frozen bottle of water in an insulated lunch cooler. Other things I kept in my backpack to munch on were homemade Trail Mix, fruit such as apples, oranges, grapes, peaches, pears and banana, crackers, cookies, candy bars, etc.

For a healthy snack, make your own Trail Mix using a combination of any or all of the following:

Dried cranberries - Craisins
Dried cherries
Raisins - plain or chocolate covered
Dates
Fancy Mixed Nuts - salted or unsalted, your choice
Dried Mango
Dried Papaya
Coconut flakes
M&Ms
Banana chips
Apple chips
Dried Peaches
Dried Blueberries
Dried Pineapple
Granola

Keep in a sealed container or ZipLock bags to keep fresh.

For healthy lunches, I like turkey, beef or ham with cheese and lettuce sandwiches or wraps made with tortilla shells - make your sandwiches on whole wheat or multigrain bread and use whole wheat tortilla shells; salads with the dressing on the side; homemade chicken or tuna salad using just enough Miracle Whip or mayo to hold the ingredients together; celery sticks, baby carrots, radishes, cherry or grape tomatoes with some salad dressing on the side for dipping...

Are there any alternatives to having a screw top bottle.?

WWE Foreve

I recently went to my school and they said that screw top bottles are not allowed. Which most of thermos and bottles have screw tops. Does anyone have any ideas of what I should use instead of screw top bottles. I really like to keep foods hot and drinks cold. I would like it if someone could find bottles or thermoses without screw tops. I would really appreciate that!
Thanks!

Answer
That limits the options quite a bit. Some models I can suggest are:

For FOOD:

Option 1: Zojirushi type thermos bento lunch jars.

http://www.zappos.com/zojirushi-classic-bento-vacuum-lunch-jar-ultra-black?channel=126&si7757425=&mr:referralID=NA&mr:trackingCode=138A9AB8-71EE-DF11-8F9A-001B2163195C

The top 2 inner containers have plastic lids but the bottom one has a screw lid. The screw lid is the smallest container so you may be able to do without.

-- edit: I just realised the middle, large one is also a screw top (only a quarter turn). But you can still look through their range to find a non-screw top combination. --end edit

It does keep food warm/hot but you need to prep them first (putting very hot water in, then removing them before putting your foods that you want to keep hot).

The outer container is double-walled. All these items come in an insulated bag with eating implements (which vary depending on the model you buy). There are different configurations, colors and sizes that you can choose from.

I have two of these (similar to those in the above website but with gold-colored bags) and they do keep food reasonably warm/hot. Zojirushi often change the color scheme and bag designs.

Other versions (targeted at girls/women):
http://www.casa.com/p/zojirushi-mini-bento-stainless-lunch-jar-white-273582

Option 2: Heated thermos (Fuloon thermos lunch jar)

This has a power supply to warm your food at work/school (if you have access to power). I do not have this, so cannot give you an evaluation. It does look very useful though.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fuloon-Stainless-Thermal-Layers-Design/dp/B007PN2Z9E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1342339770&sr=8-1

For WATER/DRINKS (non-fizzy):

If you only want them cold, you can get Tupperware tumblers called Handoliers or Thirstbreak Tumblers with plastic lids like this:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dgarden&field-keywords=handolier

http://www.amazon.com/Set-Tupperware-Tumblers-Seals-Colors/dp/B004FDDVZE/ref=sr_1_23?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1342341109&sr=1-23&keywords=tumblers++tupperware

You really need insulation through the use of an insulation bag: keeps the cold and condensation droplets in.

You can also add reuseable ice to your tumbler; these do not dilute your drink and is ... reuseable.

Other accessories: ice pucks.

Best Cruise Excursions (Carnival Liberty)?

Okay, my 7 Day cruise goes to Cozumel, Grand Cayman and Ocho Rios. In Grand Cayman, I am definitely doing the Stingray City thing. :) i want to hear reviews of that as well as good excursions for the other ports. a friend recomended doing the Xcaret Eco Park in Cozumel. please, if you have done any of these things, tell me what excursions are the best. thanks

Answer
Cayman and Coz are very easy and safe to do on your own - Ocho, NOT.

If you want to do the stingray excursion, I suggest you book your own trip. Captain Marvin and Nativeway are two companies we've gone with and liked. There are several others. The trips with the ship's excursion are mob scenes and more expensive. You must, of course, allow sufficient time to get back to the ship on time and keep in mind that this is a tender port, so you need to allow for that. If there's time after your stingray trip, the driver may drop you off at Seven Mile Beach if you ask [some don't], then just catch a cab back to the dock. Or, just walk a few steps to the right of the tender dock [as you face shore] to Eden Rock, where you can snorkel or just hang out.

You do NOT want to do the Xcaret trip unless you can use a ship's excursion. It's a long, bumpy ferry ride over to the mainland, then a bus down to the park, then reverse. Unless your ship is in port until very late [say 8-10 pm] I wouldn't try it. Much easier to just grab a cab to Chankanaab Park or Paradise Beach [both have websites]. Again, just make sure you leave enough time to get back. I would suggest you go "first thing" in the morning, get back to the ship to change and grab a quick lunch and then go shopping or see the town. Better shopping if you go back a block from the main drag. Be aware that there are three docks in Coz, so make sure you tell the cabbie the right one - sometimes there's a language problem.

In Ocho, I would NEVER go out independently unless you just want to go over to Island Village [literally a five-minute walk to the right with your back to the ship] and hang out at Margaritaville and their beach. They don't allow hawkers there, so you can relax - although you will get hounded quite enough on that short walk. If you DO decide to go to Dunn's River Falls, you can avoid the hawkers at the end of your climb by going down the stairs back to the "entrance" and out to the parking lot. Be sure to bring water shoes or some type of "wet" shoe that will grip. You do not want to go into town to shop unless you are very street-wise and immune to constant badgering. One really nice thing we did on our first visit to OR was the "White River Tubing", on a ship's excursion. You float down a river on an innertube, then have some jerk chicken [there are live chickens running around you as you eat - guess they're not too smart!!] and some Red Stripe or Ting. Yum! Not sure I'd do that again after the problems some people have had, even on ship's excursions.

Always take with you the info from the daily activity sheet that gives the name/number of the ship's shore agent, just in case. Some people take their passports with them [leaving a copy in the cabin safe or accessible in an e-mail to yourself you've done ahead of time], as you'd need that to get out of the country if the ship left you behind. You'd need money or a credit card, too, of course.

We once had an interesting experience at Cayman. The ship weighed anchor and was beginning to put out to sea when we stopped. The small pilot boat was heading toward us and when it arrived, two women, loaded down with shopping bags, climbed up a rope ladder to the crew's entrance. A crew member was standing near us as we watched and remarked how this captain was nice to do that and that not all of them would.

You can find lots of info on excursions at CruiseCritic.com. Click on "Boards", then "Ports of Call" and find your ports.

Have a great cruise!!

You are so superficial, but it's ok.I was like that in 7th grade, although I do not know how old you are.
Eventually I grew out of the phase (hopefully you do too).By 9th grade I got over being obsessed with brands. But to answer your question,it starts mattering to kids around 7th grade.I suggest being yourself. So wear what you want, you don't have to follow the rules of society.Popularity can be gained in many ways.People can be known for their good and bad deeds.A lot of popular people are usually known in a negative way(if you haven't noticed),but I concentrate on if they are genuine.Good Luck in school.

HEALTHY LUNCH IDEAS....HELP!?

insulated lunch bag built on Sachi Insulated Lunch Bags Style 34 Lunch Bag
insulated lunch bag built image
Q. ok i am 13 and in 8th grade. I really want to start eating healthy and the school lunches are totally the opposet. But the thing is, it doesnt seem really "cool" to carry around a colorful lunchbox and carry go-gurt. And I sit with some pretty cool kids but they all eat from the school lunches. PLZ help! plz dont tell me eat whatever u want, i seriously feel this way and i dont think there is anyway to change it. But so far all I can think of are salads and maybe a deli meat sandwich. Can you think of any "cool" lunch ideas? Semi-healthy-semi-tasty? But still "cool"? I dont eat breakfast in the mornings and my lunch is at 1:00pm. So i get pretty hungry. I would like to loose some weight so I want to start eating healthy and building muscle (cause doesnt that make you more in shape and thinner? I know it kind of bumps up your weight but as long as you look freacking good - who cares, right?) ALSO: if u have any work out tips or healthy eating tip feel free to share!!!!! thanks so much guys!!!!!

Answer
What you eat does not make you cool. Plus, just because you bring a lunch from home doesn't mean u need one of those tin lunch boxes or thermo-insulated ones. Brown paper bags have been used for decades. Pack it, stash it in your locker and nab it before lunch, hen throw away the "uncool" evidence.

Besides that small tidbit - eating healthy can be attacked in many ways. If you're not much of a cook you are very limited to what you can eat that is healthy. Salads are always good - use olive oil and vinegar as a dressing. Deli sandwiches can work as long as its not 1 piece of lettuce for every 10 slices of meat. Put equal parts veggie and meat. Try not using mayo. Meats: low fat meats are usually chicken and turkey.

It's actually easier to lose weight if you eat a little bit more often, rather than a lot all at once. So if you had a small breakfast and then lunch finishing the day with dinner you are better off. If you wait that long to eat your metabolism begins to slow down and your body processes food slower. The slower your body processes it the heavier you get. So go to the organic section of your local grocery store and check out the snack foods they have. Dried fruit is alway good. So are nuts and granola. They balance your blood sugars and you don't need a lot of it to feel good.

Do some further research. Healthy is good.

Vegan going to Typhoon Lagoon Tomorrow, Any food to bring?

I'm going on a class trip to Typhoon Lagoon in Florida tomorrow. I need to pack Breakfast, Snacks, and dinner. I'm currently weight restoring and because I'll be active all day, I need a lot of food. I'm a vegan, so no animal products. Keep in mind, no microwave or refrigerator on the bus. Breakfast foods can be slightly cool because I eat it first thing. My Ideas so far are:
Breakfast:

-Banana
-Chocolate Soy Milk

Lunch: ?

Snack: 3 Trail Mix Bars

Dinner:
-Phoney Balogna + Soy Cheese Sandwich w/ Mayo
-Grape Juice
-Apple Sauce w/ Cinnamon

Dessert:
-Chocolate Bar

I still need more food, because I need to eat at least 2500 calories. No weird stuff either, I don't want to be made fun of on the bus...

Answer
I just saw this question. I hope it isn't too late to help you! If it's too late for this trip, you can use these tips next time. They are all things that work well for lunches or other meals to go on a daily basis.

*Bring a reusable container, no more than half full of almond butter. On the side, pack a banana or two. Don't forget a spoon! At snack time, mash the banana into the almond butter. Eat it either on its own or on a bagel or rice cakes.

*Bring a salad - Pack dressing separately, so the salad doesn't wilt. Vinaigrettes travel well, and won't spoil. For the salad: make sure you include mixed greens or spinach in addition to other lovely veggies like shredded carrots, leftover broccoli, and sprouts. Add some orange sections, red grapes, chopped red bell pepper and/or sprouted sunflower seeds. If you have an insulated lunch bag or cooler and a salad container with a built in cold pack, use them, but if you don't, just make sure you eat the salad for lunch. Don't wait till dinner, as it might wilt by then!

*Don't forget the fruit! Some fruits travel well whole, like apples and oranges, but others need a little preparation ahead of time, like melon, pineapple, or mango. Are you allowed to bring a paring knife on the trip, or will your school consider your knife a weapon? I'm actually quite serious - some schools with zero tolerance policies consider even paring knives weapons. Best to prep fruit ahead of time, just in case. Also, you might not have anywhere to wash fruit (or sticky hands) on the trip, so prepping it ahead is best.

*Instead of salad, if you have a Thermos or other container that will seal well, you can pack a gazpacho. Gazpacho is a cold soup, kind of like a blended tomato salad! http://simplyrecipes.com/recipes/gazpacho/

*Make a cold dish with leftover rice, quinoa, or noodles. Dress with vinaigrette or your favorite other kind of sauce or dressing. Add some chopped veg and plenty of nuts, seeds, or beans to keep you full and energized.

*Make an Asian noodle dish. Make a sauce with a few tablespoons of your favorite nut butter, some seasoned rice vinegar (or plain rice vinegar plus a little vegan sugar or agave and some salt,) a spoonful of tahini if you have it, a squeeze of lime juice if you have it, hot sauce, and chopped cilantro. Toss cooked noodles (spaghetti is fine) in the sauce. Garnish with toasted sesame seeds. Great warm (the night before) or cold (as leftovers on the bus!)

*Bring a container of a yummy dip like hummus or baba ghanouj. http://www.greatpartyrecipes.com/babaghanoujrecipe.html Bring a separate container of carrot sticks, celery, red pepper, and whatever else you like to dip, or some crackers or pita. This time, you can just buy some hummus at the grocery store or make it with canned garbanzos. Another day, try this recipe: http://www.sproutpeople.com/cookery/hummus.html I make it with sprouted sunflower seeds. They take a day or two to grow, so obviously unless you have sprouts on hand it's too late for that recipe, but try it next time.

*Don't forget to bring reusable utensils and a cloth napkin, and bring everything in reusable containers that will nest inside each other once emptied.

Have a fun trip!

How should I cut back on grocery bills?

children's pack lunch bags on Unique Lunch Boxes Busy Bee Lifestyle
children's pack lunch bags image

Lauren

My husband and I have six kids. It has been sort of sudden because we had three (which wasn't bad) and then we had triplets almost three years ago. As our kids grow our grocery bill is kind of dominating our income and it can be very stressful. I don't always want to feed them cheap food and it's not a major strain but I was wondering if anyone had tips for cutting back on groceries. I use coupons every so often but I wouldn't consider myself a "die-hard" coupon shopper (I often feel that people who go crazy with coupons end up buying products they wouldn't have otherwise purchased) and I price shop as well. So, in short, what do you do to save money when grocery shopping? Thanks :)

Answer
I use a few coupons for things I would normally buy anyway, and I buy when things are on sale. But you are correct that most coupons these days are for highly processed, high profit items that are best left on the shelf at the grocery store, in my opinion.

You don't say whether or not you work outside of the home, but I assume that with six kids you don't. I saved money when my kids were young by packing lunches for both my kids and my husband every day they ate out of the house. We almost never ate out or brought home takeout. If we did buy something like pizza to bring home, we would get one pizza and supplement it with salad made at home.

I make most baked goods, such as muffins, cookies, cupcakes and pies from scratch at home. They are much cheaper to bake than to buy, and the ingredients are much better and healthier. We get most of our fruits and vegetables at orchards and farm stores or raise them ourselves in our yard. Just this week, my husband picked sour cherries at a pick-your-own orchard for me to can at home for use this winter(I made him a cherry pie, too, for his efforts) and he picked fresh blueberries for me to freeze and make blueberry jam. I taught my children how to bake and cook food, and also gave each of them a small vegetable garden(four to six feet square is big enough for a child's garden). This taught them to appreciate vegetables, which they eat with enthusiasm.

There is a cheaper and better substitute for almost every expensive food at the grocery store. We eat popcorn popped in a big pot on the stove instead of bagged pre-popped or microwave popcorn. You can learn to make pizza at home, with a biscuit type crust rolled out and topped with olive oil, spaghetti sauce, cheese and vegetables like chopped onions and peppers.

We eat cooked oatmeal or eggs for breakfast, instead of cold cereal, instant hot cereal or things like Pop Tarts or breakfast bars. I buy plain yogurt in the largest containers and add fresh fruit, with maybe a spoonful of homemade jam. We make homemade pancakes and waffles on weekends, topped with things like homemade applesauce and cottage cheese, or fresh fruit with a bit of real homemade whipped cream, for a treat.

Never, ever buy sodas or sweetened drinks for your children, since they are not healthy and a needless expense. You can make your own iced tea with tea bags(I like Red Rose the best) and boiling water. Sweeten with a little simple syrup(half and half sugar and water, boiled and cooled) and add some bottled lemon juice, if you like. Store after it is fully cooled in gallon orange juice jugs in the refrigerator. If you wait until it is cool before you refrigerate it, it will not turn cloudy.

When kids don't get snacks and treats all of the time, they appreciate what they do get more. You can give your children turns to pick out something they really want but don't often get.

Eggs are cheap and nutritious, so is peanut butter. Make good use of your food budget and buy the best quality food you can afford, such as whole grain bread instead of the cheapest white bread. Eat less meat and don't buy lunch meat. Tuna salad, egg salad, grilled cheese and peanut butter sandwiches are perfectly fine. Crackers are high in sodium and often sugar. Feed your little kids plain Cheerios, small cubes of cheese and sliced bananas instead.

Make meat loaf and learn how to cut up a whole chicken. Make soup, lots of different kinds. Put fruit in sweet things and vegetables in almost everything else, like omelets and casseroles. Kids who grow up eating lots of vegetables are much less picky and easier to feed. Don't make special meals for picky eaters. I have never known a child who voluntarily starved to death, although I have known lots of anxious mothers were were certain they might. I am ashamed to say that with my first child, I was one of them.

You will need a supportive husband, too. Remember that cheap food is not "bad" food. Lots of times processed or junk foods are the most expensive and the worst for you. Whole, natural foods are the best for your health and for your pocketbook.

What are some things to pack?

How to dress and do hair for a job interview?

stylish lunch bags women image

jenewalk

Tomorrow I have a job interview for a "guest services associate" position at a high-end salon. This would basically include working the front desk, aiding clients, being knowledgeable on the products and services, etc.

As for what to wear, I'm torn between:

a) black pants, heels, a more modern stylish shirt, and a modern stylish black sweater on top of it--the kind you tie across your stomach, & "chunky" and modern but not overstated jewelry.

b) more traditional look with black pants, black suit jacket, tucked in button up collared shirt, heels, and more simple muted jewelry (like silver earrings and small necklace or bracelet).

Additionally, I am extremely unsure how to do my hair! I have very thick, somewhat coarse, dark brown hair. I usually wear it down, but I feel putting it up or curling it might be better for the interview. The problem is that my hair can be pulled into a ponytail, but is so thick it always looks poofy and my "bangs" (aka shorter hair that is layered around my face) cannot be put into the pony since they aren't long enough. I always seem to have pieces falling out, hair poofing or frizzing. Plus, intense humidity and heat is going on right now! To put it kindly, even my hair dresser is afraid of my hair and said it was a nightmare putting it up and keeping it up for my wedding.

HELP!

Answer
Don't try to do something you haven't done before and perfected... i.e. don't go trying new makeup or hair styles tomorrow because you are more likely to screw it up than to get it perfect the first or second try.

I would do the "Traditional" road with the dress but add the "Modern but not overstated Jewelry" to the traditional outfit to give it modern flair.

But the most important thing between now and then is to CALM DOWN.

If you go in there flustered, you will come off as flighty and your speech will seem forced and your cadence will be all off.

Unfortunately, it is the people that do good at the interview but suck at the job that actually get the good jobs because they come off as smooth at the interview stage.

Oh, and DO NOT bring your own coffee or your Hello Kitty Purse, etc. I know it sounds obvious but my aunt works international HR and she is shocked at what Americans come in to an interview with.

Bring a muted purse that contains:
1. Wallet
2. Small Notebook/Pen with anything you want to remember to ask written in it and to use to write notes while being interviewed. (Pay, benefits, any employee rules, dress code, etc.) Again, nothing Hello Kitty or Bratz or Goth or with the BDSM Flag on it... PROFESSIONAL.
3. Your cellphone, which you will shut off as you walk in the door and replace in your purse.
4. Resume or application or whatever else they requested which will be in some sort of folder or envelope to keep it from being messed up in the bag.
5. Small Cosmetics Case.

That's it... No water bottle. No Lunch. No magazines. An iPod or other small device is ok as long as it stays out of sight.

Oh, and no neon nail polish... Colors are fine just make sure they don't scream "HIGHSCHOOL!"

Go with a smooth, modern look with a professional bearing and CONFIDENCE. Combine the "Traditional" with the "Modern" look to show off that you are responsible but have flair.

Oh, and no "Mom picking me up" or waiting out side... Or, heaven forbid, have her call after the interview and tell the person why they should hire you. My aunt actually had 28 year old applicants bring their parents with and even had a woman call her and yell at her about how she "Didn't get to know her son" and should reconsider the application.

OH! And something REALLY REALLY important!

NO perfume. NO heavily scented body lotions. If you must wear anything, make sure it is as neutral as possible. What smells good to you may turn off an employer and some people are subconsciously turned off by scents...

Make sure you shake the interviewers hand when you introduce yourself too. A touch ingrains you with people.

Help!!!! I'm scared of going into Middle School!!!?

Emily Bish

I'm going into Middle School next year! I know its like early to be thinking about Middle School now but I'm just sooo scared! In my Middle School theres no lockers so I'm gonna need a big backpack I know my mom wont let me have a tote bag so cross that off and I cant wear makeup I went on my middle schools website and found the what to bring on the first day of school list I need a 2 inch binder 7 dividers pen-blue or black ink a pencil and lots of loose leaf paper. I know it says that u need that but i dont know if i should bring more Hardly anyone from my elementary school is going to my middle school there all going to the other middle school. And should I bring a lunch or buy a lunch I dont really like the school lunches there and in my elementary school i ALWAYS bought lunch Ive heard that there is a lot of fighting in the bathrooms. What if i really need to go? Ive heard that some bully put a girls head in the toilet and that when this girl walked into the bathroom someone punched her and she had to go to the hospital to operate her head. and how should i lose some weight i think im overweighted way too much. and should i join clubs? if i do what clubs should i join?!?!?! Please answer!!! Im terrified of Middle School!!!! I even tried talking to my Best Friend she gave me a few tips about my Middle School cuz she goes there too!!!

Answer
Ok hon first of all you need to take a moment and breath. Yes it can be scary and intimidating to go to Middle School but you're working yourself into a panic attack.

Now that you've, hopefully, taken a breather I'm not going to sugar coat it but middle school isn't the greatest. Then again the public school experience isnt that great anyway. But just because that's true doesnt mean that your experience will be like that. The life experiences you have are what YOU make them.

Yes not having a locker can be extremely hard to deal with since you have to carry your books around in a bacl pack. To ease the weight of your back pack though you could try carrying the books you need for the class your going to in your hands. For example if your going to English class you can carry you notebook, binder, textbook, and have a pen and pencil in your pocket. That should help a little.

In terms of wearing makeup. Forget wearing it at all. Most of the girls in middle school who wear makeup don't even know how to properly put it on so they look like a bunch of clowns or tramps. And plus at this age thereâs no need to wear it. You can make yourself look great just by a great head of clean and combed hair, a fresh face, neat and stylish clothes, and a beautiful smile. Go to the sites I suggested, this should help a lot with beauty. http://www.azteenmagazine.com/beauty.php?article=286, http://www.makeupfiles.com/2009/01/14/5-ways-to-look-more-beautiful-without-makeup/, http://teenadvice.ygoy.com/how-to-look-great-without-makeup/.
In terms of not having many friends from your elementary school, again not going to lie this is hard. Itâs difficult to make friends on the first day but once you start all your classes youâll make friends quickly. So donât worry, everyone needs friends and they usually make them on the first day. But be fare warned make good friendships not ones that will make you popular because guaranteed those girls will ditch you faster than you can say peanuts.
Buying lunch or not buying lunch. It really depends on the food. From my experience cafeteria food is ok but usually looks like something thatâs either been sitting there for two years or has been growing in a chemical waste facility. I would suggest bringing your own lunch because you can have whatever you want and its actually good and fresh for you. If you want to buy at the cafeteria thatâs fine just choose carefully. If it looks like the pizza is made of cardboard then itâs probably not any better than cardboard.
As for the fights in the bathroom, talk to teacher preferably a woman because she might understand more than a guy teacher would. Usually there isnât any fights but just to be on the safe side talk to your teacher about how you feel about the whole thing.
For losing weight I will suggest only two very simple things. Pick water over soda ever day and have a healthy portion size. Also pace yourself and take your time eating, no matter how long lunch period is. I say this because when you shovel your food in, you will always be hungry after since your body hasnât caught up with you to tell you that its full. Iâve done this and Iâve lost 30 pounds. I use to weight 176 and now I weight 155. Itâs a great help because youâre just eating properly not stuffing yourself. So for example if you have a large pizza, eat it slowly with a drink of water between every two bites. When youâre half way through the pizza stop eating and listen to your stomach. See if youâre full or not. Most people donât listen to what their stomach is saying and thatâs how they gain weight.
As for clubs, is it something you want to do or not. Clubs are just extracurricular activities. They usually have art club, theater club, creative writing club etc. Theyâre all fun and I would suggest doing one but its all up to you if you really want to do one or not.
I hope this helps! I wish you luck on middle school and hope it all goes well! Remember life experiences such as middle school are what you make them.

good diaper bag for multiple kids?

insulated lunch shoulder bag on ... Insulated Lunch Bag Boy Girls Animal Picnic Bag Shoulder Bags Gift
insulated lunch shoulder bag image

Jo

I am pregnant with number three and due in a couple of weeks. I am in need of a diaper bag thats large enough to carry things for 3 kids under 5 yrs of age. Durable, stylish and as I said large.
I am looking to spend NO MORE than 75 dollars on it.
If you have ANY suggestions please let me know! Thanks!

Answer
When I had two in diapers I didn't get a diaper bag at all. I got a Satchel bag the kind ppl carry computers in. It was rectangular and fit the diaper and bottle carrying bag easily it also had several pockets for all my mommy needs. It had an adjustable strap so i could wear it on my shoulder so i could hold the car seat in one hand and my toddlers hand. It was cheaper then any large diaper bag I could find about 25 bucks at target and more adult/ stylish. I used it as my purse and baby bag so when I wasn't with the kids I didn't look like I was carrying around a child's bag. It also was very easy to wash. Also i used a generic insulated lunch sack for bottles that was about $4.00 rather then the very over priced bottle carries. Good luck and congrats.

Packing lunch. 7AM to Noon. Food safe?

anonymous

I am a college student.
My house is 10 miles (20 minute drive) from campus. I commute. So I can't store lunch in the car.

For lunch, I usually eat in the cafeteria once a day, 5 days a week. It usually cost about $5.00 per meal. So for 5 days, it's $25.

I could save alot of money by packing my luch. I could pack bread, ham, and cheese sandwich.
The problem is that I don't have a car. My book bag is huge and if I carry an insulated lunch bag to hang over my shoulder, I would have too much on my body.

What I could do is put the sandwich in a disposable sandwich bag and put the bag in my book bag. However, I would be making the sandwich at about 7AM and not eating it until 11AM or 12PM (5 hours later).

Would my food still be good at that time?
I am also thinking of getting one of those leakproof plastic containers to pack other kinds of lunch. It is thin enough to put in my book bag.

Like this but longer and thinner:

Answer
It wouldn't be any good, but you could get an ice pack and stick it in a zip lock bag and put it in your back pack next to the sandwich, that may help keep it cold enough to stay good for those 5 hours. Good luck!

Can I store a bottle with express milk in an insulated nappy bag for a few hours?

I would love to be able to take a bottle with expressed milk to the shops or when we are going somewhere that breastfeeding is a little akward. Can I store the bottle in one of those insulated bottle bags? Can I maybe take the frozen breast milk bags and sterilised bottles and heat when needed? I am not sure how long I can keep it out of the freezer before it is ruined. Thanks :-)

Answer
Yes, you can do this.

Freshly expressed breast milk can be left out at room temperature for at least six hours.

Frozen breast milk can be stored in the fridge for 24 hours once it's thawed. Frozen milk loses some of its immune properties and isn't as resilient to bacterial growth as fresh milk is. It would be fine to tote it along in a small insulated bag (like a lunch kit) with an ice pack to prevent it from thawing too quickly. For both of my kids, I've also brought along a thermos of hot water to heat bottles in once they were ready to eat.

Refer to this chart and the accompanying article - it will help you figure out how to store and transport your milk:
http://www.askdrsears.com/html/2/T026900.asp#T026901

Good luck!

Ideas on what to send kids for lunch at school?

Lil lady

My kids can be picky at times and hate school food ( i don't blame them) I need ideas on things I can send them for lunch that will keep well in their lunch bag for a few hours.
Btw they are in K and 3rd grade

Answer
you should be able to find a small refreezable ice pack at walmart or pretty much anywhere like that...that is what i put in my daughters lunch box to make sure nothing cold spoils...then after school just put it back in the freezer for the next morning...

I wear something that considered gay to wear. I am in high school. Most people from the other sex wear them, but they are made for guys also. Is it bad for a guy to wear thongs? They are very comfortable and supportive than any other underwear. Will people make fun of me if they accidentally see them? Is it unusual for a guy to wear?I have questioned my sex orientation also. I feel attracted to a random muscular black basketball player at lunch. If i am bi, can i get out on facebook without telling people? I want to real bad.Is it bad to watch videos that have men in thongs and speedos? I already told my mom that i wear thongs. Her opinion that most high school guys don't wear them and she laughed in the beginning. She ask me why i want to wear them. They are cozy and supportive and it is my body. She accepted it. she bought me some speedos later on, but i denied it. Why does she want me to wear something different. Is she holding her true feelings back . Why are they made anyway to don't be worn? I told her because i don't know how to do laundry so she could wash them. I told her to don't tell my dad and she agreed. I think she told him anyway. He called me speedo on purpose several days when i told my mom I have older brothers that lives with us.I wonder what they think if they figure out that i wear thongs? Is it bad to want to sag them for people to see? I sag them when i got something from the vending machine in the mornings at school. Their was a lot of girls there also. I even sag these at walmart for people to see. My friends in the library saw that i sag thongs and the friend that was a guy said you wear thongs.. speedos... model in them man! When the doors open, i grab my bag and rise my back. They saw my thong i bet because when i got into the door, i herd a girl talking to her friend "disguesting" are they talking about the thongs? I herd a couple comment about thongs and i think they were not trying to talk about my thong but i dont know. I think the guy ask his girl friend that she wear thongs or ask what is their opinion. I pass a lot of people and a lot of people pass me so. Their was some college girls walking around the park. They were talking before a walked past them and they stayed quiet when i pass them. I wonder what they think? Like will they make fun of me or accept me how i amHow can i talk to them or get them to talk to me when i sag my thong? What would you do if you are in this situation when you see a guy sag them. I would want to change ot in a random bathroom at school at the end of the day to let guys see my thong. Like what will they do when they see it? Will they tell anybody? I think they are pretty amazing. I be friended my crush on facebook also. He is a pretty sweet guy. How can i talk to him? He does not know me. Like what would you do if you see a random person jogging around the park and you saw him in a red thong on and a short sleevless shirt? Why do they get made fun of like the testicale vesticale, the banana hammock, bungie spunglers, and marble bags? Why do they call them man thongs alos? I can't go back to briefs now, because they feel like boxers because i am used to those thongs so dont tell me to switch to something else. These are not my friends also so. their were like freshmen and sophomore girls. I am like a juniorI was changing for track in a restroom at school. I was still in my underwear and I was eating some jawbreakers, I stuffed like 10 of them in my mouth. I choked on them and got some water from the sink. The sink is viewable from the hallway. I am in a thong that is made for men. They herd my coughing and one girl saw it and said oh my gosh i should of taking a picture. She has friends near her also and ask her what was that! Answer
Hi
It is entirely up to you if you wish to wear thongs.
However, I don't know why you sag to let everyone know the type of underwear that you have on. It is your personal business and should be of no concern or interest to anyone else. If you feel comfortable in your thong, then keep wearing them.
Best wishes

How do I have a great weekend with my 21 month old son?

I am keeping my 21 month old son for the weekend. I am pretty excited about it, but don't really know what to do with him. The weather is going to be horrible. What kinds of things might he like to do? I don't want to ask his mom because I want to seem like I know what I'm doing. Help please!

Answer
If you decide to go somewhere, here are a few options:

1. Indoor playground; your son will love interacting with you and other kids. There may be slides, tunnels, bounce houses, etc. Google what is in your area

2. If you dare, Chuck E Cheese or another child friendly restaurant. It can be very chaotic, but every kid should go there at least once. They do have toddler rides like tunnels and a mini merry-go-round

3. What about the mall? Some malls have activities like train rides, carousels, the little rides in the center of the mall. It's nice just to get out of the house and walk around sometimes.

4. Fast food restaurant with playground; I know, fast food isn' the best option. However, many have healthy options now. For example, substitute the french fries for apple slices. Their playgrounds are a lot of fun and I haven't met a kid that doesn't like it there.

5. A Children's Museum or Aquarium. You really can't go wrong with either. Be sure to take pictures.

6. A pet store. Once again, doesn't cost you anything. However, kids love to go in and look at the fish, dogs, and other animals. We take our daughter there and she stares at the animals forever!

Stay at home options:

1. Bubbles keep my child and my dogs busy for a long time

2. Fingerpaints. Yes, a bit messy. Just make sure you use an apron or trash bag (turned upside down with holes cut out for head and arms) and make a couple pictures. Frame them and keep one for you and give one to his mom to show her you know what you're doing!

3. Puzzles; my daughter is just shy of 2 years old and loves playing with her puzzles. You can get them for about $3 or less at Wal-Mart and Target. It's educational and fun

4. Watch a movie together. Almost anything Disney is good. Don't be surprised if your child doesn't make it through it, but it's a nice activity around naptime. The Incridibles and Lion King is a favorite in my house.

5. Let your son explore in the kitchen. My daughter loves to get out all the pots and pans when I'm cooking and bang on them. Cheap and fun. A little noisy, but it doesn't last all day. I keep her entertained by letting her help me make lunch and she enjoys it

6. Mega blocks or legos. Build together and use your imaginations.

7. Wrestle. It's okay to rough house, just don't let it get out of hand. He will enjoy wrestling with you and you will wear him out. Kids at that age have so much energy!

How often do your kids get junk food?

fedfanfore

Like sweets, candy, chips, pop tarts, fruit snacks like gushers, soda, etc
Also cake, cookies, anything unhealthy.

Answer
Easter, Halloween, Christmas, birthdays... (just a couple things: maybe a candy cane after dinner or a piece of fudge after nap, chips with lunch, etc. on each of those "relaxed" days). Other than that, my kids may get to split a small bag of french fries as a treat if they're super-good during a marathon shopping trip (you know, one of those where you have to go to two grocery stores, the drugstore, Target, and three other places to pick something up and the kids have been really patient waiting in lines and being shuttled from store to store). Other than that, my kids favorite snacks "treats to eat" are dried cranberries (unsweetened), grapes, and whole wheat crackers with slices of gouda cheese (don't ask how they got started on that). My son also really loves eating a huge whole carrot (it takes him forever)... I think it's just such a treat because he's used to eating those little snack pack sized carrots. My daughter likes munching on persian cucumbers (the mini-ones) dipped in red pepper hummus.

What are some healthy foods I can make for lunch that don't need refrigeration?

do insulated lunch bags need to be refrigerated on Packed With Love: Insulated Lunch Bags for Kids | Lillian Vernon Blog
do insulated lunch bags need to be refrigerated image
Q. I have just started a new job, and my office does not have a refrigerator in it, but it does have a microwave. What can I make for lunch that is healthy and doesn't need to be refrigerated?

Answer
Health Choice makes these unrefrigerated "meals" that you just add hot water (or microwave - either one). My daughter eats them in dorms and says some of them are pretty good. They are in the pasta isle usually. Then, there are goes cans of tuna / chicken salad and they don't need refrigeration. Also, believe it or not - and not sure how they taste - there's that unrefrigerated milk like they sell in Starbucks so there's some milk if you want it to make like cream soup. Oh, and those "Soup at Hands" are pretty good.

You could always go out and but an insulated lunch bag and put some of that blue ice in it. Pretend you're a construction worker - ha ha....sorry I am a construction worker so I shouldn't laugh!

Well, good luck - I'd say go get a lunch bag and blue ice then you can bring leftovers or salads.

How long can I keep fresh fruit juice in a bottle?

Bag

I'm planning to bring some apple and carrot juice to a swimming competition tomorrow but I heard that keeping freshly squeezed fruit juice out for too long will spoil it (Making it tomorrow morning at around 7-8am and prob gonna finish it at 10 or so) . So back to my question ^^

Answer
Put it in an insulated lunch bag with an ice pack. Or freeze it just enough to be like slushy. or wrap it in newspaper and put an ice pack (just in case) in an insulated lunch bag. you can refrigerate it first.

Should I get a backpack or tote bag for high school?

stylish lunch bags for kids on Mommy Manila: Hawk Bags: Stylish, Durable & Safe For Our Kids
stylish lunch bags for kids image

Jane

Im going to the bronx high school of science, which is a specialized school. I'd like to know whether I should be taking a backpack, or tote bag. I want to keep stylish, and I don't want to lug around a giant back pack. We have lockers too.

Im taking honors biology only, but since the school is specialized, all the classes are pretty difficult.

I used a messenger bag for two years, but at J.H. we didn't have lockers, and it hurt like h3ll, so I switched.

For high school, I really don't want to look like a clueless freshman here, so here's my optimal choice:
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DYyFjDeifR0/SLeg8S5fs5I/AAAAAAAABOw/Kv1qgFuGAQ4/s320/backpackHotTopicDickiesRedAndBlackCheckeredBackpack.jpg
That in red, blue, or grey.
I really don't want to get it from Hot Topic. I've actively boycotted that place, but their backpacks are pretty much my style.

Answer
Girls at Science carry everything. Ive seen a couple of girls with longchamp bags, and there are a bunch of girls with normal backpacks, and there are girls that carry like big purses. As long as your not carrying a 6 pocketed jansport or a huge swissgear bag, you'll be fine. It all depends on the type of kid you are. Dont worry about amount of stuff. All of my classes fit in a 1 inch binder, but i clean it out every chapter, or month or so. All you need to pack is a binder, your book for english, a planner if you want and the other small thingslike a phone, makeup and like a pencilcase or something. You might have to carry your spanish textbook, or chinese textbook if you're in those classes, but those books aren't that big. In all honesty, i could carry all my things in a drawstring bag with ease.I think you can go back yo your messenger bag if you utilize your locker well and put your morning stuff in your locker, and at lunch take stuff out, if you have a lot of stuff.
The bag in your picture is nice, and I've definitely seen a bunch of girls with similar ones.

What type of bag should i take to school? No lockers?

Legen

So this year im going to Allen High School in Tx. Its a big school. 5000 kids. Anyway, why kind of bag should i take? They have no lockers, and on the first day of classes they give you the books you need, you take the books home and leave them there for the rest of the year. You never take those books to class. Like, ever. If you need one of those leave at home books, they have like 10 to hand out for the time being of that class.

Anyway, so i wont be carrying heavy duty books and they only pass out papers every once and a while. So what kind of bag should i take? Im really lost. Im a girl btw. And it cant be too big, because you have to take it to lunch and i dont want to have a bag fight with the bag and the chairs once im looking for a seat.

Answer
I like messenger bags they look stylish and are easy to carry around. But also those big purse like bags are cute and hold a lot too. So I guess that depends on your taste too :)

Q. I'm 23 and overweight and don't know what to do...
I tried everything and read some good articles on http://www.diet-advices.com but I need some real experiences...
Anyone to help me?

Answer
Hi. I'm 16 and I also need to lose weight. I'm like 100+ overweight. But I'm doing something about now. I've lost about 3lbs in a week. You should never take diet pills. I don't care how bad or how fast you would like to lose the weight. The Diet Pills are not going to work at all. So take it from an overweight girl like me, just do it the old fashion way which is............ "Eating Healthy and Exercising" With that, I promise you that you will start to see improvements in your body. Just by doing the following..........

~Ban ALL junk foods.
(This Means get rid of the cookies, cakes, pies, sodas, chips, candies. Anything that is full of sugar. And with juice, be sure to read the labels before buying them. If the Indgredients List says "High Fructose Corn Syrup" or "Sugar". That tells you right there that the juice is loaded with sugars. Instead, look for in the list, ex. Apple Juice. Look for Apple Concentrate."

~Switch from White to Wheat(Instead of having White Bread or White Rice, go for the Whole Grain Kind. (And the trick for the wheat bread, It's only real wheat bread if the first ingredient says, "Whole Wheat Flour" if the first word says whole grain. Then it's the real whole grain bread. Otherwise, It's just like the White Bread)

~Eat Lean Meats(Like Fish(Baked not Fried), Turkey Breast, Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breast, Salmon or Tuna.

~Have Plenty of Veggies with your meats.(This plays a big role in your Healthy Eating. Always make sure when your having dinner, to load half of your plate with veggies. You can go for any veggie you like, whether canned, fresh, or bagged. Veggies are Veggies. Carrots, Broccoli, Green Beans, Cauliflower any kind of veggies you would like.

~Water Water Water!!!(Drink Water every day. Not only does it keep toxins and your organs clean, it also makes you feel good about yourself. Everytime you drink water, your keeping yourself energized. Any if you don't like water that much or if you just want to put a little flavor in it, go for lemon juice. (NOT THE BOTTLE KIND) squezze a little bit of juice in there and your good to go.

~When Eating, eat in moderation. (That means, what ever healthy meal your eating whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner, eat slowly. It takes about 10-15mins for your brain to realize what your eating. So chew slowly. And it always helps to Drink a Glass of water before each meal that way, you'll fell fuller.

Hey, If you need someone to talk to, or to keep up each other's progress, Please Email me. I never talked to someone that was overweight. Lots of people don't know what it's like to be overweight.

PS. If you don't want to exercise outside or if it's raining out, get some walking dvd tapes. You can buy them off of Amazon or Walmart or Target. I have several. I lost about 3 or 4lbs off those.
And, if you need Healthy Recipes. Buy the book, "The Biggest Loser Cookbook". My brother is like 517lbs and he's already lost 22lbs just eating the food. They have everything in that book from salads to wraps. And the Recipes are some of the casts, trainers, and the biggest loser clubs favorite meals or snacks. Trust me, that book is a life saver. It also has tips and things as well.

I hope we can be friends. :)

How to keep a salad fresh for lunch without a refrigerator?

Jenny

I want to start taking salads to work for lunch but there aren't any refrigerators to put my food in. How would I be able to keep a salad fresh?

Answer
Make sure your lettuce/greens are rinsed and dry. Pack wet ingredients like tomatoes, artichokes hearts, roasted peppers etc. separately. Pack cheese and/or cold cuts separately. Pack your salad dressing separately. Put the dried greens in a tupperware container or Ziploc with a paper towel to absorb moisture. Refrigerate all ingredients overnight then pack in an insulated bag until lunch time. If you use a decent sized container for the lettuce, you can mix your salad ingredients in that container.

If you wish to bring any salads like egg or tuna salad. The containers should also be refrigerated overnight then packed into an insulated bag with some frozen gel packs or use the other answerer's idea of the frozen bottle of water.

Is it safe to clean and re-use a moldy lunch container?

I just found a re-usable insulated lunch bag I thought I lost about a year ago. I was all excited to start using it again when I opened it up and found the sides were moldy from what appears to be either an apple or an orange that I obviously forgot to take out. The bag is in otherwise good condition... there are no cracks in the plastic. Would it be safe for me to give the bag a good cleaning, perhaps with some bleach water, and begin re-using it for my lunch?

Answer
I wouldn't use bleach on plastic, but a good cleaning may be enough. If after it is washed there is a stain, then the plastic was porous enough that the mold is likely permanent, in that case I wouldn't reuse.

Answer
As long as you can get all of the mold spores out you should be fine. I would use a bleach and water mix, 1 part bleach to 10 parts water, and then wash it out with dish soap after that just to make sure you get all the bleach out and let it dry, if you notice any smells then after you clean it try it again and if you cant get rid of the mold smell or if it returns latter you may just have to throw it out. I hope this helps
