dry ice in insulated bags?

Tobbie

is it safe to use dry ice in insulated lunch bags

Answer
No, it's too cold and should not be touched. It can cause frostbite. Use ice packs, they are safer.

would the ice pack in my lunch box melt if...?

Alliegator

I just packed my lunch for school tomorrow, and I put the ice pack in the fridge, with the stuff. but since the ice pack is ice because its in the freezer... would it melt in the fridge or stay the same?

OR

could I just keep the refrigerated food in the lunch box in the fridge, but just put the ice pack in the freezer, would the food stay good even though its inside my lunch box?

Answer
It would last a long time in an insulated lunch bag. If you were just sticking the ice pack in a grocery bag you would have a mess quite quickly.
It will melt in the fridge eventually. Just leave it in the freezer until you get ready to leave.

How long can milk stay out before going bad?

I like my protein shakes with milk so I was thinking about mixing my protein and milk before i leave the house and drink it about 2-3 hrs later. It will be in a lunch bag with one of those blue ice cubes. I just dont think it will provide the temperature needed for the milk to stay good.

Answer
I think you'll be fine since you have it on an ice pack.

Technically, once dairy products rise above 40 degrees (F), bacterial growth 'could' occur. The warmer it is, the more likely.

You could just use a insulated thermos. That keeps things hot or cold for several hours.

Is it safe to send meat in my son's lunch at school?

proud nerd

My son has an insulated lunch bag, but still has four hours between the time he goes to school and the time he eats lunch. Is it safe to give him ham or turkey sandwiches? He can't have peanut butter, since a child in his class is allergic to peanuts. What other types of sandwiches can I make for him?

Answer
I have the same problem with no peanut butter. So I freeze the sandwich container over night (empty) and put a small ice pack in the lunch bag for the day. It works for us and she says her fruit and juice stay cold as well.
Hope that helps...

Answer
Packing a lunch for school and/or work can be a challenge. Often times you donât have access to a microwave or refrigeration. Eating the same thing every day can get old after a short time as well. My suggestions for lunch are listed below. Consider taking an insulated lunch bag to keep some of these things cold until itâs time to eat. You could also freeze your beverage (water, juice, etc) and use it as an ice pack if you donât have a lunch box.

Wraps, salads, and sandwiches are good for the âentrée courseâ of your lunch. Use different deli meats and cheeses every week so you donât tire of the same flavors. Itâs good to make homemade dressings or switch up the condiments on these items as well. Use as many fresh ingredients as possible to increase the nutritional value as well. Another idea would be to cook chicken breasts, fish, and pork tenderloins in large amounts over the weekend and keep the cooked meat in the fridge or freezer as an addition to your sandwiches, wraps, or salads. Itâs a nice change to deli meat. My family also enjoys chicken, tuna, or ham salad sandwiches every so often. And you can never go wrong with peanut butter and jelly!

As the âside dishesâ for your lunch, I would suggest any of the items listed below.
fruit, yogurt, pudding, or jello cups
fresh vegetables with ranch dressing
granola bars
popcorn
trail mix
chips (take salsa or a cheese dip for tortilla chips)
pretzels
100 calorie snack packs (cookies, brownie bites, etc)
special K cracker chips
dry cereal
fresh fruit (like apples/bananas with peanut butter, orange slices, grapes, etc)
tasty cakes (Little Debbie brand)
bologna and cheese cubes
broccoli, macaroni, pasta, or potato salad
crackers (goldfish, animal crackers, cheese or peanut butter filled sandwich crackers)
dried fruit (raisins, craisins, banana/apricot/apple chips)
deviled or pickled eggs
cheese curls or cheese balls
fun sized candy bars
mixed nuts
gummy candy
marshmallows

How to keep a salad fresh for lunch without a refrigerator?

Jenny

I want to start taking salads to work for lunch but there aren't any refrigerators to put my food in. How would I be able to keep a salad fresh?

Answer
blue ice jel packs!! I use these a lot, and keep twice as many as I need in the freezer.

Pack your salad with dressing on bottom in quart canning jars, keep in fridge and grab as needed.

slip them and the gel packs into insulated bags and go!

How long can you reuse a food container before bacteria or mold begins to grow?

do insulated lunch bags need ice packs on Zipper Cooking Picnic Insulated Ice Lunch Bag - Compare Prices and ...
do insulated lunch bags need ice packs image
Q. Is it harmful and could it cause tiredness and a stuffy head? The container typically has spinach and thousand island dressing in it and is reused for a couple or so days. It is stored in a small insulated lunch bag with an ice pack. If it is unhealthy, why? Is it okay to reuse a container such as one with a tomato and after a few days cut a new tomato and store it in the same container without washing it? The container has been refridgerated.

Answer
sorry but ewww. Why wouldn't you wash it after using it each time? Even just rinsing it in warm water.
I mean every time you take it out and it's not refrigirated it goes bad a bit and gets on the fresh food. Besides, food goes bad in a fridge eventually no matter what.
