YOW !! Rob nailed it... he knows.... hehehehe

Also.. sad to say it... Commerical Pilot according to the surveys for the last 20 years is the 2nd dealiest occupation. #1 was lumberjack, but it has fallen to #3 with Commerical fisherman #1, and Fire/Police #4. You will lose friends. Simple as that.

I will second all Rob said and add:

I moved 43 times in 40 years

commuting is hell on Earth. Some guys have the stomach for it.. I never did. You get 3 days off... you spend 1 getting home, 1 day there, and 1 getting back. The entire time I was off.. I was looking at my watch. What happens if you don't get back on time for your next trip?? Well.. depending on where you work... if there is no back up... you're fired. See ya, wouldn't want to BE ya... If you work for a company with Reserve pilots.. you get to go stand before the CP, Base Mgr. etc.. and get roasted for it. Second time maybe a formal reprimand.. but just as with baseball... you are not going to get more than 3 swings at it.

One of the worst things was LOUSY FOOD, you get in at terrible hours, nothing is open Junk in theBox, WaffleHouse, all the stinking Donut places... and Oh GOD.. the worst.. Denny's... and that's if you are lucky... and domestic. International... OH BABY.... You get in the Middle East, you are going to be introduced to all kinds of new sensations, and reaquainted with a few old ones... I never thought a #6 hoagie from the Flt Kitchen would look SO good.. and GOD BLESS that wonderful Grannie that would sneak a cookie or a cupcake in your lunch when you were out over the Atlantic and you reached down and pulled out that little bag you stuffed in and found it in there.... she was at Barksdale AFB and she brought a lot of happiness to a lot of guys on long missions.

You are going to make decisions that affect peoples lives... you are going to be tested every 6 months.. with not your JOB on the line.... your CAREER is on the line every 6 months... every route check, everytime you have a check airman flying the line with you, everytime a Fed drops in (Hi, I am with the FAA and I am here to help you) and wants to go for a ride... because if you screw one of those up... you not only lose your job , but who is going to hire you after that? Then you will go to the Flt Surgeon and get your medical every 6 months... and you know what happens if you have a problem there.... and when you make Captain, and you get the big bucks.. and you have Joe Dingdong the new hire in the right seat... anything goes wrong... it's YOUR fault, and you get the blame because you are PIC. Oh.. and if you can't wait for the time when you are in the bar.. and some hot cutie slides up and says... "So.. what do you do for a living?" and you puff up your chest and say... "I'm a JET PILOT baby..." get ready for:

OH! so you are out screwing everything you can find huh?
How many flight attendants have divorced YOU?
Bet you have a girl in every town... SEE YA
Oh GOD'S gift to women because you are a pilot huh?
Now there's a line I haven't heard in a while... sure....

and my favorite...

Oh really? who do you fly for? I am a 777 Captain for American

Where in Thailand should i travel to?

Alias23

I'm looking for a place that is close to the beach, nature and is a place that is not to crowded. However, i also want the possibility to go party, shopping and experience the city life. This means in other words that i need to have the possibilty to do preferably everything within a short distance of where i live.

If you have been to Thailand and can share some of that experience, that is also verry welcome.

Everyone goes to Patong (in Phuket). If you're trying to avoid a beach full of tourists, skip it. I don't recommend it anyway. It's super dirty and soooooo expensive compared to the rest of Thailand.

Go to the Phi Phi Islands!!! The fish and coral that you'll see while snorkeling are breathtaking! You can go shark watching, cliff jumping, shopping, exploring â thereâs plenty to do! The âtoursâ are surprisingly good and only cost about 500 baht ($14.28 usd).

You have to go to Chiang Mai, (in Northern Thailand) itâs absolutely lovely. Itâs the second largest city and considered to be the âcultural capital.â Thereâs great night and weekend markets and the people are much friendlier than anywhere else that Iâve seen in Thailand. Visit the Tiger Zoo, itâs expensive but worth it! AND, do the Jungle Flight (zip-lining through an old-growth forest)!!! Itâs beyond amazing and donât worry, itâs very safe! For Jungle Flight, book your tickets at a travel agency in Chiang Mai (theyâre EVERYWHERE) rather than booking online. Itâs surprisingly much cheaper because you can negotiate the price. If you decide to go to Chiang Mai, Iâd suggest using Airasia.com â you can get a one-way flight from BKK to Chiang Mai for only $28.usd (plus the cost of your bags). It's sooooo worth it! :) Skip Phuket, go to Chiang Mai!!!!

I know you're trying to avoid tourist spots, but Bangkok and Pattaya are pretty fun. Theyâre crazy and wild and probably the best people-watching Iâve ever seen! You can get a taxi from BKK airport to your hotel in Pattaya for 800-1,000 baht â DONâT PAY MORE. Itâs a 1.5 hour-2 hour drive.

Again, Iâd stear clear of dirty, nasty Phuket. I was there for four months and detested it :) If you do go, be very cautious of scams. Never pay âparking attendants,â only give tuk tuk drivers about 1/10 of their asking price, and donât leave anything valuable in your hotel room - seriously.

Budget:
Lunch or Dinner: 60 baht ($1.71 usd) ...can definitely find cheaper
Nice hotel room with Airconditioning: 525 baht ($15.usd)

While you're in Thailand, it's very cheap to travel around the rest of SE Asia. You should maybe consider taking a bus (time consuming but very, very cheap - $10.-$20.) to Cambodia to see Angkor Wat (beyond amazing) or to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam!! I swear, it's definitely worth your time and I think they're actually more interesting than most of Thailand. :)

Have a great (and safe) trip!!!
