For psychology class, what was the meaning of this scene from the movie?

Answer
Although not playing a major role in the film, only being highlighted once, the food during the lunch scene in The Breakfast Club helps to emphasize the stereotypes that label each teen.

The brain has, from what the audience believes, is a good home life where he is well taken care of and supported. His family is there for him and is concerned with his grades and achievement. This is shown through his sack lunch. He himself describes his lunch as a âpretty standardâ lunch, just as his home life is thought to be. It includes each food group, and it is a well thought out meal.

The athlete, a wrestler, has an abundance of food. Not only does he have multiple sandwiches and pieces of fruit, but it also contains a whole full size bag of chips. The large amount of food stresses that he is a âjock.â It also can tell that his dad only is focused and concerned with his sport career and therefore wants him to eat well to compete well.

The basket case has a very odd lunch. She puts both breakfast cereal and sugar on a sandwich. This odd combination displays that circumstances in her life might not be perfect. It is assumed that her life at home is not the best or ideal but at least she does have some sort of food.

The princess brings sushi for her lunch. She also has a fancy set up placing it on a wooden raised board. This is a show of that her family is well off money wise because sushi is not the usual sack lunch occurrence. From her lunch, it appears that she is well provided for.

The criminal has no lunch at all which helps to strengthen his stories of the abuse he receives from his parents. It makes the point that he has a tough life and is not well cared for at home.

The food or lack of food in the lunch scene makes it less difficult for the audience to follow along with the story because each lunch helps to put on display the family life and status of each teen. Food can speak volumes; it emphasizes the stereotypes that others label them as.

Hope this helps.

How do you motivate yourself to exercise?

I need a little push, looking for some ideas. What do you do? Thanks!

Answer
What I do is watch some really hardcore athletes training. I can't really do what they do, but I'd like to, and it motivates me. Try this video of a guy working out in a park. http://www.iwantsixpackabs.com/my_video_tips/300workout.html

Another thing, start slow. Grab your bike and go for a five or ten mile ride on a nice, sunny day. Even if you just go once per week. And start eating right. Go to www.spartafit.com and see how many calories you need per day, and chop that up into 6 small, balanced meals. The bike ride will take an hour one day per week. The meal planning maybe an hour to design your plan, and fifteen minutes a day to put your healthy snacks in sandwhich bags so you can have them with you when its time to eat. (i put 2/3 of my calories into breakfast, lunch and dinner and 1/3 into healthy snacks. It feels great, you get to eat all the time, and you loose weight.)

Try it for a month. you'll get in (a little) better shape, but you'll feel motivated to do more. I started like this about four months ago, and my program just gets more and more hardcore every month. Now I'm working out hard four or five days a week and I feel fantastic.

Good luck!
