LOW CALORIE School Lunch Ideas?

tala

I am in high school and on a diet to lose about 20 pounds. Nothing of what my school serves is really healthy, and they always run out of salads by my lunch period. I need something preferably just about 300 calories to bring to school without much hassle.

I have considered bringing that ramen that you can buy in the styrofoam cups and begging the lunch ladies for some hot water to put in it but I'm not sure they would give me any.

Slimfast doesn't help my hunger for long. Could I bring a ham sandwich or would the meat go bad? I'm not sure...

Answer
If you want to lose weight, you need to watch carbs and sodium as well- which means NO ramen.

I used to bring an icepack, and put it in my lunch bag to keep my food cold, that way you have tons of options.

My FAVORITE lunch of all is a turkey sandwich. You can pick up these 100 calories sandwich thins, throw on 3 slices of turkey, for just 150 calories. Add an apple and a cheese stick and that's about 300.

School's lunch line is too long and they don't make enough food?

Ms. M Mous

Ever since the beginning of school this year, our lunch lines have become WAY too long, and by the time I make it up to the actual serving counter, their all out of food! I keep getting stuck with no food at lunch, because I get free lunch at school and have no time to pack my own lunch, so I have to wait in the long lines and go up there for nothing. The lunch lady had the nerve to try and force me to buy a personal pan pizza (The one lunch item they DON'T run out of) for $3, which I DO NOT have the money to spend on right now.

They never have enough food, I always have to never eat, and whenever I do get food, there's never enough time to eat it. I take one bite and we have to leave for the next class. Sometimes the lunch lady HAS food she can give us, but she won't. It's ride there in front of us but she won't give it to us. The cafeteria is just too unorganized, and I cannot stand having no food at lunch anymore. What can I do?

Answer
At my school, we have the exact same problems. I have the last lunch, ours are divided into A,B,C,D,E,F, A being first and F being last. Whenever I make it to the Cafeteria (I try to get there FAST) the door is practically CLOGGED with kids. It's impossible to get in. Once I do make it in, the lunch lines are way too long, and I have to get right on the end, because the lunch monitors watch our lines closely. Once I do make it up (I normally have other kids behind me as well) they are all out of EVERYTHING. I always have to turn around and walk back over to my table, and I want to shout "I bet if I were in Jail i'd get FED!"

Back in Elementary school, our teachers always had us vote for what lunch we would get, and they would then send the count to the Cafeteria, and they would make more than enough food for everyone. Now at this school, last year wasn't so bad. I had B lunch, so I was second, & they always had enough food. Now with F lunch, I feel like a Bottomfeeder, basically eating what everyone else left for me, oh, wait, they almost never leave ANYTHING. I think it may be that my school has over 1,000 kids.

I never have enough time to pack my lunch either, and if I did, it would probably just be a sandwich, since we don't have many other snack options at my house.

That lunch lady sounds like she considers you to be an orphan, like Oliver Twist. She thinks you don't deserve the food, but you're having it waved right in front of your face. I once had that happen to me. The lunch lady had some chicken tenders still in the container, but she said she was all out. They were right there, I even pointed them out to her, but she said, "I don't have anything, it's ALL GONE" She didn't seem to care either. Apparently, we kids at F lunch get the leftovers, and we get only half of what the kids at earlier lunches got, if we even get any. It's like the kids at the earlier lunches are the people in charge of the workhouse, and we're the orphans who have to eat GRUEL while they feasted.

Lunch time is also retarded. We have as much time to eat as the orphans in Oliver Twist did. "Eat your food in 1 minute and get back to work!" What are we? Nothing?

Also, apparently the kids at the earlier lunches have the opportunities to get bags of chips and Rice Krispie Treats for $1 and cookies for 50 cents. By the time we make it into the lunchroom, they're all out.

You need to boycott. Tell everyone who's stuck with no food to try and bring packed lunches or to bring a snack to lunch, but to refuse to get in that line until they HAVE food for you to eat. If they can't provide food, whether it's free or not, then they need to make more. It's just unfair. No one shouldn't be able to eat even if they do pay nothing!

my house is clean but there is so much clutter. i have two kids with toys all over and my counters are constantly filling up with crap i dont know what to do with i put it in a pile to go through then it just sits there. i have tried buying big tubs for stuff but my garage is out of control as well. i need some advice for getting organized and keeping clutter out of the house. any advice would be grately appriciated.

Answer
Fly Lady.net

Fly Lady claims you cannot organize clutter, you can only get rid of it.
Do your kids take naps or go to school? If so, and you can be home when they are not, start then. Pick a spot other than the garage,
get a trash bag, 3 boxes and a laundry basket. If you have a timer, that's great. Set it for 15 minutes.

Now put all clothes in the laundry basket and all obvious trash
in the trash can. Look around the room. Pick a spot and work
clockwise around the room from that spot. Put anything you don't want anymore in the trash bag, put things you want to keep in one box,
things you don't want but are good for someone else in the second box, and any papers you don't want to deal with right now in the third box. When the timer goes off, take the trash out, take the laundry to where ever you put dirty clothes, and take break to grab a cup of coffee. Re set the timer, and go at it again. Continue until the room is done.

What to do with papers? If they belong to your kids and you want to save them, get a box, label one fo reach kid and put the age of the child on the box or the year. File works, too, if you have a filing cabinet. If they are yours, get a basket with a lid and put them in there. If they are bills, put them in your special bill paying spot.
( if you don't have one, figure out where it will be as you need one!)
Deal with papers when you have time.

When my kids were little we picked up toys before lunch, before dinner and before bed time. Made the job so much easier at bed time!

When my 2 oldest were in school and the lil one wasn't even in preK, I took her to a sitter one day a week so I could clean my house. The sitter was cheaper than a cleaning service.

Hope that helps; good luck!

What should I get my mom and dad for Christmas?

Q. My mom and dad have always gotten me really nice Christmas present so now I want to get them something really nice! I was thinking of getting my mom something from a coach outlet website that has really good deals so do you know of one that has good deals? And its hard to get something for my dad because he has like no hobbies!

Answer
How about any of these to think about. You don't have to any get of them as a gift, but it might give you ideas or something comes to mind. By the way all the lady and guy stuff are mix in there.

I was thinking about starting a business delivery sandwiches?

ladies lunch bags buy on LADIES FOLD AWAY ECO FRIENDLY BLACK WHITE DOG PRINT LUNCH SHOPPING ...
ladies lunch bags buy image

come close

to offices for lunch with salads, soup, cookies etc.. As a very small business. Is this a good idea? What advice can you give? It would cost people less than eating out.

Answer
try parking your car outside large corporations & as they come outside they can buy from you? paula deen started this way- she called it "the bag lady" i believe.

My school is going on a Europe Trip in March. How can I get 4000$?

Q. We need to start paying now I have no money and I really really want to go. I have no money, I tried job hunting but no will hire me. I tried asking the bank for a loan but they said they don't give loans to minors. The trip is like 3300$ but I need to buy a camera and you can't be in Europe with no spending money. Any suggestions? No crime related ideas thank you!

Answer
We recently assisted a local student raise $4500 for his People-to-People study in Europe. Ours is a small, rural community in which everyone pitches in to help one another. His family is by no means wealthy, either. Some of the things he did to raise money include:
- Got local restaurants to donate meals for a "Dining Around Town" raffle.
- Got a local jewelry store to donate his and hers watches for another raffle.
- Set up a table at local fairs to sell raffle tickets and solicit donations.
- Bagged groceries for tips at local supermarkets
- Got the nicest restaurant in town to split its profits from all patrons who ate lunch or dinner on a particular day and said they were supporters of the student. (You need to have a very altruistic restaurant owner for this to work. Luckily she is a good, church-going lady, and the boy is very active in the church his family attends)
- Did lots of yard work for neighbors
- Spoke to the Chamber of Commerce about his study opportunity and what it would mean and what he would bring back in knowledge and experience to share with his classmates. Business leaders pitched in nearly $600 on the spot.
- Washed lots of cars. Got his classmates to pitch in and help. His parents bought pizzas for the car washers, but he kept the money toward his trip.

Also, speak to your grandparents and relatives. An opportunity to experience European culture is something no one should miss. Let them know what a great experience this will be for you. They might have resources to help you out.

Above all, show spirit and initiative. If people see you are out there working to raise money for your trip, they will be more likely to help than if you sat around like a beggar in the marketplace. Good luck! (By the way, you can get a decent digital camera on eBay or Amazon.com for around $100.)

What Vera Bradely Bag Should I Buy?

ladies lunch bags buy on New-Ladies-Womens-Insulated-Lunch-Bag-Shopper-Tote-Beach-Swimming-Bag ...
ladies lunch bags buy image

I am torn between what vera bradley bag i should buy for school. It's between:

The Vera: 19¼" x 14¾" x 6¼"
The Tote: 11 ¾" x 13 ½" x 4"

I will probably be carrying around a book, a folder, notebook, binder or two (1"-1.5") and then all of the extras (pen,s pencils, calculator, ect.) and it doesn't necessarily need to be able to hold the book because i could always carry those.

Thanks so much for your opinions!

Answer
I just got the vera for school and it is huge it will carry alot! I love it though, it is definately a great bag for school!! If you are not going to carry many textbooks the tote might be good for you, but I personally like to have extra room for things like a waterbottle and lunch if I need it so I would go with the vera!!
I actually recieved the tote as a gift for my graduation to use for school next year but when people started telling me it was too small I took it back to the vera bradley store and the ladies working there said most people get the vera or the pleated tote, but I personally liked the vera. They said the tote is good if you know that you will only have like one textbook at a time, but the vera can hold like 3 plus other books, so I would definately go with the vera! :)

Hope that helped :)

What is a good healthy lunch to eat while pregnant?

ladies lunch bags buy on ... - Insulated PVC Lunch Tote Bag By Danielle Creations - Ladies Gift
ladies lunch bags buy image

tori_729

I know I can't eat lunchmeat, and tuna only twice a week. I have access to a microwave at work but I eat in my car. I also like quick prep in the morning.
Any main dish and snack ideas are needed and also what I should add farther into my pregnancy (only 5 weeks at the moment.)

Answer
my little one is now 2mo - I found that preparation was key to being able to eat healthy. Otherwise the poor dear would've been surviving on coffee, french fries, tastycakes, and prenatal vitamins! LOL.

For me, fresh fruits and veggies worked best for snacks (either prepare the night before and refrigerate, or buy pre-prep'd) they're easy grab-and-go items b/c once they're prepared, you can just put them in snack-bags or whatever so they're all ready when you have to leave in the morning. And if the snacks start getting boring, you can always dip fruits in yogurt or honey and veggies in Ranch dressing or peanut-butter. Of course, those aren't your only options! Healthy-good stuff for you and the little one!

As for the lunch-meat dilemma - as it turns out, those are fine so long as you heat them to steaming-hot. So, if you like hot ham and cheese sandwhiches, you can grill it at home if you like and microwave it at work - same with hot roast-beef sandwiches! You can still do cold, non-lunch-meat sandwiches like PB&J, but I guess that depends on if you're allergic to peanuts or not. My dad likes to make LTO, bacon, and cheese-whiz sandwhiches as an alternative - so don't be afraid to get creative with your food! Pregnancy is the perfect excuse, afterall! *grins*

If you're still leary about lunch-meat and sick of sandwiches, I found the easiest thing for me was to make a little extra food for dinner each night and save what was left over in small tupperware-style containers - those fit easily into the lunchbag in the morning and can be microwaved on "real" or paper-plates once you get to work. (apparently, it's not considered "safe" to microwave plastics/styrofoams anymore, just an FYI while you're preparing stuff)

My favorite "make more than you need" item was rice and pasta - any kind of pasta or rice, if you save just those by themselves, can later be mixed with whatever kind of sauce, veggies, meats, etc that you wish! This works great if you don't feel like eating the same thing 2 days in a row because it allows you to change things around a bit. And it's really easy because cooking is just water and pasta/rice and it doesn't go bad in the refrigerator for a pretty long time.

If that stuff doesn't work for you, most freezer sections have pre-made dishes that you can take and microwave... but be careful, they're not only expensive but tend to have a lot of additives, especially salt, that aren't good for you OR baby. The best pic of those are the ones that have frozen veggies mixed with pasta/rice... but it's really cheaper to just do it yourself and maybe just scope out the pre-frozen ones for new ideas on different combinations! :-)

And don't worry... a common misconception is that you can't "fill up" on fruits, veggies, pasta, and rice - actually, eating healthier helps your body get the nutrients it needs (not to mention the ones the BABY needs!) so it doesn't make you feel like you have to eat so much/often. Also, drink LOTS and LOTS of water - that'll help the nutrients get to where they need to go and help you keep your energy up (rather than using coffee, since cafeine is one of those controversial pregnancy items) not to mention make sure the little one has plenty to swim around in! :-)

If you need more suggestions on food - or whatever else pregnancy-wise, try www.babycenter.com They've got loads of wonderful information for pre- and post-natal... and if I remember correctly, they even have a recipe page of quick healthy meals for new parents who don't have any time... I'm sure it would apply to exhausted working pregnant ladies too!

What are the best healthy snacks for my school lunches?

Chelisa G

For the past school year I have been eating healthier and exercising more regularly. But, my family does not have very much money, so its been hard. What are some healthy snacks (other than veggies, fruits and nuts; I know those) that are good sources of protein or fiber, etc?

Answer
That is great that you are already motivated to plan and bring healthy snacks to school!
Here are some of my favorites to include in a backpack (I'm not too fancy with my lunch, as I usually don't have enough time.)

Here are my suggestions (pick 2-3 choices during the afternoon):
-String Cheese and an apple (buy flavorful varieties like Pink Lady, or Honeycrisp)
-6 oz. Low-fat/light Yogurt with frozen berries (love Yoplait Key Lime Pie and Banana Cream Pie flavors)
-1/2 cup Cottage Cheese and whole grain crackers (love 1-2% small curd)
-Celery and Hummus
-Larabars
-Corn Tortilla wrap with veggies and low-fat meat. I put a little salsa and small amount of low-fat cream cheese in mine.
-Trail Mix (whole grain cereal, dried fruit, nuts)
-Salad with snap peas, beans, sunflower seeds, grilled chicken, and any other veggies that make you happy!

Have you ever tried making smoothies? Greek yogurt is a yummy way to add protein and calcium to your snack choices.
Here's my general recipe:-
-Yoplait Greek Plain (17 grams protein per 6 oz.)
-Frozen fruit (I like blueberries, mango, cranberries)
-small amount fruit juice
-ground flax seed (fiber and omega-3's) optional...can be a more expensive item

Then I will typically either have a hardboiled egg or a handful of walnuts as a "side" dish. Make sure for all the cold items that you pack in an insulated bag with a cold pack.

What have you been typically bringing for lunches and snacks?

try parking your car outside large corporations & as they come outside they can buy from you? paula deen started this way- she called it "the bag lady" i believe.
