Help I need a Earth Day Craft for tonight?

Q. I need an earth day craft for tonight. It is for preschool age to early elementary.

Answer
" Art & crafts experiences enable children to acquaint themselves with the natural qualities of the earth such as leaves, rocks, shells, dirt, wind, rain and sunshine. Children also learn to observe, create, and remain in touch with the ever changing world, and to develop a caring attitude towards the earth by learning to recycle and use materials for art and crafts rather than throwing them away." -http://www.first-school.ws/activities/occasions/earth1.htm

More Fun Crafts for Little Ones:
Little Earths
Materials: Coffee filters, blue & green water (dyed with food coloring, use lots of coloring, eyedroppers, mini muffin tin.
Directions: Fill 1/2 mini muffin tins with blue water, other 1/2 with green. Have kids use eyedroppers to pick up and drop the water onto coffee filters. Blue & green will make it look like a little Earth. Parents Love These!

Marble Painted Earths
Materials: Blue construction paper, green paint, a couple marbles, pie plate.
Directions: Cut out blue construction paper into circles that will fit into pie plate bottom. Add green paint (not a lot!) and a marble or two. Let (but help) kids roll the marbles around (by holding pie plate. This creates an Earth-like project that the kids will love doing!

Litter Bags
Materials: brown lunch bags, markers or crayons, stickers (optional)
Directions: Write each child's name on bottom of bag. Write "LITTER" on one side of the bag, and "EARTH DAY 2008" on the other, or on each smaller side. Let kids decorate their Litter Bags.

Trash Collage
Materials: Candy wrappers, cut up junk mail, paper scraps, etc. Basically all your scrap art materials, and a large roll of paper.
Directions: Cut roll big enough to fill with your scrap art supplies, but leave room for each child to work. Pile art supplies into bowls or other containers across the paper. Let the children glue the pieces wherever they feel like, and make a Trash Collage! This one is fun and time-consuming.

Earth Day Bracelets
Materials: Contact Paper
Directions: Cut slices of contact paper approx. 1 inch wide and 5-6 inches long. Peel off backing and wrap around child's wrist, sticky-side up. Go for a nature walk and let them stick stuff to their bracelets.

Dirt Cups
Materials: Instant Chocolate Pudding, Oreo cookies, plastic bags with zipper, gummy worms, Cool Whip (not reddi-whip), CLEAR plastic cups, spoons.
Directions: Make pudding and allow to set in fridge long before children arrive. Give each child a bag with 2 oreos in it. Let them bang the bags to crush the Oreos (much cheaper than buying pre-crushed, and takes time!). Put some of the crushed Oreos in the cups. Add pudding. Top with cool-whip. Let children add rest of cookie crumbs. Garnish each with a gummy worm or two.

Does the Packit work?

Q. So I'm going to get the packet but i have a couple of questions first. 1 does it really work like it says it does. and 2 the buy one get one free offer, are they both the same size? Please I really need help especially number 2!!

Answer
There are a few disadvantages to using PackIt lunch bags and a practical one amongst them is the fact that it doesnât have a provision for putting labels on them. How can you write your child and teacherâs name on it then? On the other hand, the gel packs start sweating as they begin to defrost. Hence itâs useless to try and pack napkins with your childâs lunch because they will get wet and soggy before use.

According to some customers the food didnât stay cool for more than 3 hours, which was hugely disappointing. Cold yoghurts go warm and salads begin to wilt; there goes your idea of a cool healthy lunch. You are better off opting for the regular insulated bags, which can be used with ice pack to greater effect. And itâs a lot cheaper option as well. PackIt is certainly not worth its price, especially when you have a cheaper alternative that does the job better.

And then thereâs the Velcro Issue to deal with. Kids will naturally hold the bags by the top handle, but what happens because of that is the Velcro tends to come apart. Itâs just not strong enough and whatâs worse is it cannot be sewn back because you will end up damaging the gel pack thatâs under the fabric.

Lunch Bags Get Wet:
PackIt on the whole seems a good idea but lacks in execution. It doesnât keep food cool for 10 hours for starters. To make matters worse, the bags get wet from the inside when the freezer pack starts defrosting. Thatâs a strict no-no.

PackIt doesnât work for 10 hours as claimed:
You are told that PackIt keeps your food cool for 10 hours at refrigerator temperature, but thatâs not the case at all. You will manage to keep food cool for about 5-6 hours at a sort of low cool temperature. Itâs absolutely unsuitable for milk and other dairy products, which will not last.

PackIt Alternatives
Getting a MNT lunch bag is a much better idea. You can use it brilliantly with two ice packs. It will keep food, including juices and milk cool for a good ten hours and itâs a lot cheaper option as well. You can buy them at Amazon.com
