I own a new small restaurant that does gourmet soups, salads and sandwiches. We are trying to increase our "boxed lunch" sales. What is the best way to increase our sales of boxed lunches to local businesses in the area? We are new enough (about 1-2 weeks old) that basically nobody really knows about us yet. How can I get the word out to the right people to increase my sales for large take out orders to the big local companies? Thanks for any help.

Answer
Get to the secretaries (or assistants) if you can with those fliers.

Then make it easy for them to have their lunches. One place I used was good about us faxing our orders over and they'd have it all bagged up with the engineer's names on their order. Then I would go and pick it up. However, it has been about 10 years since I worked corporate and I don't know if it's acceptable at all businesses. I was also an assistant who didn't mind doing such things in the best interest of morale.

Make sure it's as inclusive a lunch as possible as well. My engineers were able to get a sandwich, chips and a pickle for about 8 bucks. The sandwich shop I used would get an order from my group at least once a month (30 engineers) and other groups along the same frequency.

It also helped that the sandwiches had names so it was easy to order. i.e. John will have the New York, Eric will get the Broadway, Matt wants the Empire.

Good luck!

How many bags of chips should I get for about 30 teens? And 2 liters of soda?

I'm having a Halloween party next month, and my mom needs me to come up with some kind of budget for the food. The party is going to have 30 teens max, and my dad is catering the pizza and we'll have plenty of candy out, too. Knowing that there's going to be that food already, how many bags of chips should I get, and what kinds? And how about 2 liters of soda? Thanks!!

Answer
This depends on the teens. Girls may be polite and drink the soda like its going out of style while the boys will devour pizzas and chips. For a teenage crowd, and I have experience in this, to be on the conservative side of things, I would go with 3-4 people per pizza (beware the pigs) and 4 people to the larger bags of chips (pick what you like -- if it's left over, you get to eat them). If you are thinking you may go overboard, you could go to a wholesale store and get the variety chip bag boxes of individual bags. That way you will have a lot of variety and the teens will only take what they need and whatever is left is yours for school lunches and munchies. As for soda, I would go with what others suggested and figure on 2-3 per bottle. On this one, limit variety. Get one regular and one diet type of soda. You are not going to please everybody. For instance coke and diet coke. Also, get some water bottles. You can get a case in the market sometimes for $3 on sale.
